Place was tricky, had a few friends with me and saw there was no where to sit, kinda sad!! But then, when we pick up our drinks at the side of the bar, BAM! A whole downstairs for seating and lounging. The coffee was great, had an americano, and loved it.

Coffee was delicious. I got an Iced Lavender Latte. The perfect amount of Lavender 👌 the hippie cookies are a must try if you go there

I am trying to stay away from Starbucks and land on a local coffee shop! This by far is my favorite! The taste is on point along with wonderful staff and a variety of options! Don’t hesitate

One of the coziest coffee shops in Grand Rapids. I love Lantern for so many reasons. Of course, the coffee is phenomenal, but so is the atmosphere and the staff! Even though its a small space, there are great places to sit and chat with a friend or two or get some work done. Highly recommend stopping at Lantern for any of your caffeine needs.

Im not an espresso expert at all, but Ive bought vanilla lattes at many different places from McDonalds to Starbucks to independent coffee shops like this. Ive made my own at home. I know what goes into a vanilla latte and its not complicated.And I have no idea how a vanilla latte from Lantern tastes so good. No clue. But every time I get one I feel like I am not touching the ground, but ascending toward heaven.

Love the space. The barista was super friendly and we talked coffee for awhile. Natural process Ethiopia coffee was on bar for pour over- my favorite! I ordered a hippie cookie as well and it was amazing! Took some time in the quiet space provided to do some work. Perfect experience. Happy to come back anytime Im in town.

I am not a coffee drinker, nor do I frequent coffee shops, but I stopped in here one day and the lady who was running the place was so welcoming and kind. I ordered a cup of latte anyway and it was delicious. All of their ingredients are local and top-notch. This place is also just stunning. Theres a hidden lounge in the back, and its spacious. I had an amazing experience here and I plan to come back hopefully soon. Thank you.

We came here after having a terrible experience at another coffee shop (local mocha) We shared that we were doing an adventure challenge (scratch of off book of adventures to do with friends) we asked for three random drinks that we could guess what they are. The gentleman was extremely kind and super into participating in our adventure. He put time and love into each drink and made us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back!! THIS is how you love people!!

Great coffee. I watched a grown man come in not wearing a mask. When asked to wear a mask, he threw a fit like a toddler, said he was triple vaccinated, and stormed out. I was just there for ArtPrize that day but I couldnt help buy a coffee after that. Entertainment and great coffee; what more could you ask for?

I wanted to done inside but it was pickup only. Ended up drinking outside. I ordered the Cortado which came with sparkling water. Came with a fancy bronze spoon. Pic included (customer service was great)

Excellent quality coffee brewed perfectly. Very earth conscious company that strives for sustainability. Service was quick, accurate, and genuine. They made sure to take the extra time to make sure everything was prepared perfectly. There are plenty of spaces to sit and work or study. Overall cozy coffee shop vibe.

Wonderful coffee and great customer service! I work near Lantern and love the online ordering feature as it is super convenient and saves me time. The employees are always really friendly and helpful and have even taken the time to discuss the origins of their coffee! Its really great to know that I am giving my business to a small business that really does care about their coffee qualify and the farmers that grow it.Stop by lantern and you wont regret it!

I adore this place. We were scoping out coffee shops for a mini photo shoot. As you can see, it turned out well enough. The mood here is casually open and friendly. Decent music playing in the background. And the lounge area! Love that. I ordered a cappuccino while I was at it. Service was friendly and quick. I will definitely be going back and happy to tell whomever wants to listen.

Love this place. Great coffee and espresso drinks. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable. Don’t let the street view deceive you there is plenty of intimate seating just below the coffee bar. We went on a cold COLD! winter night and it was cozy with incredible drinks.

I don’t frequent many coffee shops as I don’t drink coffee.. however came here on a Tuesday afternoon and had a great experience. It’s spacious, nice atmosphere, friendly and the rosella tea was tasty!

The Lantern offers great local coffee and tea choices. The coffee is very good, beating most major chains in terms of quality. Theres also a very unique atmosphere, feels almost like an underground Chicago coffee shop.The typical crowd is college students studying, but Ive seen people from all walks of life here.Dont expect much in the way of food, there are a few pastry and baked good options but thats about it.NOTE: no wheelchair access to lower seating area or restrooms.

I had their white tea, and it was a great choice. The Barista was friendly. The atmosphere is a really downtown-GR vibe.

I got a Smoretado it was really good! The espresso has a sorta fruity and dark taste to it which makes it delicious. The marshmallows and Graham cracker were a nice touch. It has a nice sitting area where you can hang out and study or do work for awhile. Overall very nice.

The Lantern is one of my favorite places to go for coffee with friends, or to get some work done :) the coffee is amazing, and the staff are great! Plus, the decor and space is overall very warm and inviting.Just be aware - the only parking available is parking on the street. :)

The best in GR for latte craftsmanship. They wont scorch it and its always smooth. They have some pastries too, and those are decent.Seating is trickier in covid times - they have a limited capacity, so make sure to ask before you order. There is a decent sized seating area - not sure if its accessible, but there is some seating at the ground level too.

After passing this place many time, I finally had some time to stop in! It is a beautiful and relaxing shop with equally good coffee. Pour over coffee, lattes...whatever you are into. I met the owner Steve who seems like a genuine guy and founded the shop around seven years ago. I dont live downtown so I dont know how often I visit...but I will NOT hesitate to stop in again given the chance.

AMAZING latte here, one of the best in Grand Rapids! Nice lower level for connecting to wifi and getting some work done.

I dropped in for a pastry and paid a whopping $4 for the dryest poptart, which was supposed to be a cookie, that Ive ever eaten. I could only take a bite because the only way I could swallow it was to wash it down with water. Not worth my money.

Love the coffee and the atmosphere inside is great for meetings. The seating is a bit more spread out than some coffee shops. Grab a cup for the road on your way out.

Favorite coffee shop in GR!! This is open on Sundays which seemingly is hard to find in GR (especially one that I really like). Its perfect for studying or getting work done. Theres a few seats up on the main level near the windows if you need to see outside or theres plenty of seats downstairs that is SUPER cozy and feels very homey. Their coffee is also great, Ive had just black coffee and a latte before and some of the best in GR

The lantern is a friendly, cozy place. The staff are among the friendliest in town and the coffee among the best in the city. There are a million options for coffee in Grand rapids, so why the lantern?Well, its really all about the atmosphere. Ive never felt regret over spending time there chatting with friends, reading a book, or doing work. I cannot stress how cozy it is. Make the trip some time this winter and relax. Work remote some day. Meet a friend. Do some school work. See if you like it.

WOW. This place is amazing, definitely something different with an awesome vibe. The flavor of the drinks is like none other and I would say this is the best cafe in Grand Rapids. My favorite of all the downtown coffee shops. Super cool space, fantastic coffee, and always friendly staff. I have come here and worked multiple days and have had a variety of coffee and espresso options. None of them ever disappointed. Very unique space and great to focus when you need to get away. If you love your coffee, this is your place.

I enjoy visiting the Lantern. Studying there is nice because it has a cool dungeon-y feel on the basement that enables me to focus. Not much natural light.

Always a great place to get a good cup of coffee and socialize. I stop by frequently and its always bustling, but Ive never had a problem finding a table or a place to sit. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and there are plenty of power outlets to plug in your laptop or phone.

Normally not a huge fan of hipster coffee places like this, but the service here really won me over. Coffee is solid too.

I love it here. They have good music, cozy nooks, plenty space to work and friendly staff...but nearly $4 for a cup of tea was a bit of a surprise. But so much better than hitting a chain spot.

I regularly try and stop here when Im downtown GR. This place is so chill, and has a great sitting area downstairs to relax. I got a black coffee last time and enjoyed just messing around on my phone for 2 hours while hanging out in the dungeon. Absolutely great meet up spot, and the coffee is affordable and tastes great.

The employees here are very personable and are super kind. Not only is there wonderful staff but its also a very inclusive and has really quality drinks and desserts for appropriate prices. They support local business as well. All around wonderful place for a quick drink or to lounge and chill with friends.

John and John are eager to discuss not only the items on hand but also the sourcing and processing of those items. It is a very welcoming space that has ample signage promising a safe place for all. The atmosphere suggests that this is a promise they deliver on. It has a very inclusive vibe.

A quaint little drop which opens up ones imagination. Great choices offered with a comfortable setting. Reminds me of a basement bar and dive in Waterville Valley New Hampshire. Never judge a book by its cover. This is a trip I will return too. I am eager to get more of a regular experience. Till then, I suggest you to drop by.

This place is fantastic. The coffee (and other drinks) are the best Ive had anywhere. The treats are tasty. The staff is that elusive combination of knowledgeable and friendly. And on top of all that, the space is beautiful, cozy, and inviting.Its also worth mentioning that Lantern is the most environmentally friendly coffee bar (and lounge) that Ive ever been to. You wont even see a trash can in the place!

A small cozy coffee and tea bar. I like this place all the time because in Winters you can bring your laptop, go downstairs here and work on your stuff. In spring and summer you can sit outside, relax and enjoy a cold coffee with outdoor sunshine.

There seem to be other well know, more famous coffee places in Grand Rapids, but this is my favorite.My wife and I have made this place a Friday morning habit. We both grab a great cup of coffee or latte and enjoy the quite atmosphere. She reads a book or catches up on other things while I spend the morning doing email and documentation. A wonderful addition to the Grand Rapids area and in my mind the best coffee place in GR as well

Lantern has a great atmosphere and makes a great cup of coffee. There is plenty of seating and a great place to do some homework or catch up with some friends. If you can avoid going during busy hours it can be a quaint place to read a book. Would highly recommend!
