While I enjoy Hall street Bakery and frequent them, this visit was a bit of a train wreck. This review will not focus on the one visit but rather the restaurant as a whole. (Everyone is entitled to a bad day). Food was tasty and well prepared. They were very accommodating of by wife’s dietary restrictions. We had a nice glass of wine and beer on the patio while we waited for our food to be prepared. Nice selection of gluten free baked goods as well as non gluten free. A coffee bar rounds out the available beverage options.Enjoy!
Nice ambience. It took sheer willpower to resist the cookies! Its clear that the staff find it to be a good place to work.
Nice bakery/eatery that combines a coffee shop with high-end lunch items and beer and wine. Great spot to please everyone!
The best gluten free baked goodies! The chocolate cake, cinnamon rolls, red velvet or chocolate espresso cupcakes are amazing. As a sensitive celiac, I highly recommend the trip to eat here!!
The caprese grilled cheese sandwich is amazing.
One of my favorite places in GR. Amazing food and pastries, and great coffee! They also have a bar for wine and beer. They have wonderful pizza and sandwiches, great soup, and a wide selection of treats. Their cinnamon rolls are to die for. Awesome space. Great indoor & outdoor seating in a cute neighborhood!
I love Hall Street (and Wealthy Street) Bakery! The pizza is amazing, as are the other options (the pesto salmon sandwich is a favorite). They have delicious bread and baked goods including a wide variety of gluten-free items (cupcakes, cookies, sandwich bread, baguettes). Wonderful!
Nice bakery, they have a lot of freshly baked options for different diets, such as gluten free or vegan. They also have a discounted section, however it is more expensive than other options for lunch. Be prepared to wait for your food. They have a good drink menu and you can also get the drinks specific to your diet needs.
I go here often. Their pizza is definitely my favorite, although they have plenty of other great options. Most days are good, they sometimes have off days with the bakery items, but over all I am always happy with their service and food. They’ve earned me as a life time customer for sure!
I had the pleasure of taking photos of their menu for Doordash and honestly everything looks extremely delicious and the manager Jim was a pleasure to work with! This was my 1st time there and definitely wont be my last!
This place is amazing! One great thing to know is that they serve the full menu ALL day. If youre coming off 3rd shift you can get pizza and drinks! Ill be back weekly so should you.
Today I took my manager to Hall Street Bakery to enjoy the Beef Rib sandwich, which is incredible !! He got a half turkey sandwich and I got the beef rib sandwich n a pop. He tried my sandwich and we both agreed it was awesome. BUT GET THIS. The bill was $31.00 kind of expensive, plus they didn’t bring out my au jus at first. Then they brought it out it was a very SMALL AMOUNT. No biggie as I take half the sandwich hime anyways. BUT THEY WOUKD NOT GIVE ME MORE AU JUS SAUCE TO TAKE HOME!! The gurl said the KITCHEN SAID I COULD NOT GET MORE AU JUS!!! Really after spending $31!!!!!! VERY DISAPPOINTING.
This place is less than a block from my house so I really wish I had better things to say. Baked goods are okay, but pretty over priced. Pizza is good except they cant ever get my order right. Sandwiches are a complete joke. $13 for a Reuben that literally just had 3 thin slices of fat on it. I strongly suggest skipping this place and going to Schnitz Deli on Fulton street that continues to win awards, bake their own bread next door, makes everything from scratch, gives you massive servings and a large amount of meat(not fat), is cheaper and has impressed me every time Ive been there in the past 15 years. Probably wont be wasting my time or money here anymore.
Great spot for coffee and conversing with friends.
Pleasant environment good vibes all around
You have to try the Townies...it’s like a cinnamon roll and a croissant had a baby 😍
FOH paid as servers depsite most of their work being untipped.Unfortunate handling of saftey for employees durinf covid.
Great baked goods and service
Hometown cooking & service. Great spot hidden in the South East neighborhood!!!
I love Hall St Bakery-good people, great coffee and the best sweets (plus GF Bakery options, galore!!)..if you havent had the BBQ pizza, its a must!! (Our go-to!)
Nice variety of GF and other tasty pastries. Yummy hot drinks on cold days!
Great coffee and baked goods. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. In door and out door seating. Good value.
Excellent gluten free goodies!
Awesome danishes
Top notch quality everytime.By far the best uber eats daytime option in Grand Rapids. Really appreciate this place.
First time there food was excellent. Pleasant staff. Had a nice talk with the manager as he brought my food. I will be back soon.
BEST FOOD EVER! Their cupcakes are so good and they have a lot of options for people with dietary restrictions. Their food is also bomb!
Great sister bakery to the Wealthy Street Bakery. I love the oasis in the neighborhood feel--it gives the lure of a true destination spot but still maintains an inviting everyday atmosphere. Food is great as are the specialty coffees and lattes. The reduced price on day-old baked goods is a family favorite for our large troop. I just wish they had a way to get more parking! Walk over if you can😉
Hall Street Bakery is wonderful! Not only are their baked goods delicious, but they have a lot of other delicious food options. I highly recommend the bacon and white cheddar breakfast sandwich on ciabatta. Delicious!! They have really great coffee, too, and the staff is always amazing.
Came into town visiting family and thought I would visit this cute bakery down the street and Im so glad I did! I got a latte and a cinnamon roll and they both were great! I also got a raspberry Danish to go, yummy! The atmosphere was so pleasant. They have a nice patio area out front and easy access parking.
I liked the menu; on facebook. Its good, the pizza. And they are kind and hardworking. I dont have anything else. Services maybe offered...
Great bakery! Indoor and outdoor seating. Great coffee. The breakfast sandwich selections are great-- and the market veggie was amazing! Quality baked goods, friendly staff, and quick service.
Simple and well crafted. I had a breakfastcookie. Like an oatmeal cookie with little sugar plus cranberries and walnuts.I dont go for walnuts but was a good choice for this recipe.About 5 inches in diameter (bigger than a taco Bell crunch wrap). Plenty thick and moist. Bendy and soft.My dark brewed coffee was smooth.THANK YOU.
Awesome little place. Breakfast sandwiches all day, and the specials and happy hour are out of this world deals on pizza and drinks. Got a breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. Going back for the pizza tonight.Edit: Pizza is also outstanding and service is still top notch with different staff.
Pastries are always good. Service is hit or miss. Rarely rude, just sometimes they dont pay attention to you. Even a look or a Ill be right with you would make a world of difference to someone whos waiting
This is a beautiful Bakery. Its always been exceptionally cleared when I visited, and the food there is divine. Its the perfect place to go to indulge your sweet tooth. Its also a great place to meet people in the neighborhood, or to meet someone for the first time. The interior is always relatively quiet and peaceful, despite the busy streets right next to it. Ive never left this place feeling stressed out or like I didnt get what I was looking for. The employees are always incredibly nice and helpful as well. If you are visiting Grand Rapids, you need to go here at least once.
I had a massive ham egg and cheddar sandwich. It was gone before I remembered to take a photo
Amazing tres leches cake and brownies. Really friendly servers.
Love this spot! Been here a couple times while visiting the area and the service is always great. My barista yesterday was a total peach and took her time helping me with my somewhat needy order. The market sandwich was a bit pricey but delicious, and the indoor and outdoor spaces are both really pleasant.
Great food great environment
Great little cafe. Nice selection of coffee and pastries on hand. Located off on its own, away from the crowds of a place like Wealthy st. if youre looking for that. Very clean and welcoming inside, with patio seating out front. Had a great time here.
Great coffee better prices A+
The Wealthy Bakery and the Hall Street Bakery always had the best turkey sandwich in town, on their great bread choices.. Now they have changed the turkey to more slippery salty thinner sliced deli type turkey. I miss the better tasting very good turkey they used to have. Wish they would change back. They ARE nice places to eat and have the BEST scones !
Great medium mocha on a cold spetember morning
Nice place. Delicious croissant sandwiches. Mine was a Breakfast egg, bacon & cheese one. HOWEVER the cheese was cold and obviously not melted, and the waitress reaction was confusing when we asked her if it was possible to make it hot. AND they had picked the bread up from an uncovered basket on the counter, where we had just seen tiny flies flying and crawling around. Future visits from us are unlikely.
Definitely the first time i got a Margherita pizza with no basil or sauce but a cup of sauce on the side...
As a person that can enjoy gluten-filled baked goods, I really like this place! Great breakfast, lunch, and dinner options and a nice spot to grab a beer on the patio on a warm spring or summer evening.Unfortunately, three different members of my family on three separate occasions have experienced adverse effects from their gluten-free offerings, so Id avoid those if you have celiac or any other medical conditions that may cause gluten intolerance. Otherwise, a cool spot though.
Really liked this place. Like its sister bakery on wealthy, they have very good pastries and breads. Nice place to just sit around and work on your laptop while sipping on your coffee. Free WiFi to. Parking options are plentiful as well
One of our favorite morning stops. My daughter and dad go here almost every morning for chocolate milk on the way to school. The staff know them and are so warm and kind and playful. Love having you all as part of our morning routine.
I hadnt been in it since it was a barber shop. Beautifully done. Great food.
Great food, funky cafe ambiance. Baked goods, including many good gluten free options. Sandwiches (breakfast and lunch/dinner) especially good...fully handmade from scratch. Have coffee, tea, beer, wine. Small eating area with tables. Dont go if you want cozy, private booths, but if you dont need privacy, just fine. Tables not too crowded. Patio area on sidewalk.
Well, I was here for lunch recently and Im not sure if Ill ever go back. I must say that the food was delicious. I got the Cuban sandwich with the house salad. My friend and I went on our work lunch. Although when we arrived, it wasnt that busy, there were three people ahead of us in line. We proceeded to sit there for 55 minutes and wait for our food. It definitely wasnt just us... there were other people going up to the counter asking why their food wasnt out yet, but the people that were ahead of me in line had already gotten their food, eaten, and were gone from the restaurant. They proceeded to just say that it was busy and they were backed up. Im really unsure if this is how slow food always comes out here, but if it is, I really cannot afford to waste that much time in my life on a sandwich.Maybe I will stick to just getting Bakery items, as the chocolate chip cookie that I had was delicious. I certainly will not be stopping for a breakfast sandwich on my way to work.Ill definitely not be back soon.
Amazing food, hands down my favorite bakery. Dont forget to try there salads and pizza. We live within walking distance, it is a staple of our neighbor.
I can only speak as an ubereats driver but any time so far that Ive had a pick up there food has not started getting prepared until after Ive arrived. So long wait time which cuts into time I could be moving on to next pickup and also in customers eyes can reflect badly on me. Gonna start canceling pick ups there if continues to be a trend. I will add though staff is friendly, place is clean, and food looks great.
As a student, I love that you can come to Hall Street and just sit and study for as long as you want. A cranberry almond scone or croissant and Americano are the best ways to spend your study time. I highly recommend the Italian Rosemary bread and the Gluten Free items are so worth it. One of the few bakeries in West Michigan to have a completely contamination-free gluten free kitchen, super impressed with that! Great staff and super tasty pastries!
This is my favorite place to get personal work done after a long days work! Principally, my series of positive experiences are a result of the hard-working, genuinely friendly, highly communicative staff who are always ready to offer a tasty suggestion when it comes to a food or drink order. I wanted to shout out the Monday night crew in particular; theyre doing a fabulous job. Additionally, the atmosphere is open and relaxed - and theyve got free WiFi!
Weve had several pleasant experiences here. The staff is personable and knowledgeable. Eating space is delightful with character and tables arranged so people feel connected but not crowded. Hearty menu items, good coffee and beer selections.
Pricy, but thats to be expected. Definitely worth it if youre looking for yummy cafe bakery style treats and good coffee - they have a large custom menu of interesting drinks, too. My only issue is a few times the outside tables had mustard/sauces on them but they still deserve 5 stars for sure.
Delicious food, bread, pastries and drinks in an interesting setting. Nice people work there, too!
Delicious baked goods and meals. This is a great neighborhood cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is friendly and efficient. Their coffee is outstanding.
Food and service were above expectations. I will definitely be coming back.
The cream cheese danish is amazing, and they gave a decent assortment of gluten free baked goods. Also the breakfast sandwiches are very tasty and you get a lot of food for the money. Minus one star because the coffee tastes burnt usually, but the bakery is great.
I ordered cinnamon rolls for a work event. They were ready when I arrived and had the frosting on the side as I had requested. They were amazingly delicious!!! My guests we very jappy to be able to add the frosting to their own preference. Thanks Hall Street!
They have delicious baked good and good pizza. It has a nice, bright atmosphere with a lot of natural light. There is nice outdoor seating in the summer too. The only downside, is there is not a lot of parking.
Not a coffee drinker, but I do treat myself to a tea or latte once in a while. The lattes are just pre-made solutions from Tazo that they steam for you, for $6. Meh.But the ice tea on a hot day is wonderful.Lots of options. Made to order. The reason to visit is their soups and sandwiches. Great sandwiches and pretty good soups. Fast staff, lots of gluten free options if thats your thing or you are with someone who is into it.The 5 or 6 parking spots are a travesty. One way in on the south side of Hall St. Leading to the alley.Clean bathroom that is always stocked.
We are drawn to the Hall street bakery for its gluten free items. We ordered a pizza that arrived to our table only cool. It was my crass thought that it was a leftover from the day before. BUT when we sent it back to the kitchen, a second which was significantly better was brought out. We also had a good bowl of soup and an order of tantalizing antipasto. It was Ok, but we have had better food there previously.
Great customer service! We just recently discovered their catering options. Wow! There food is so good and very affordable. I think weve used them 3 times in 3 weeks for client meetings. The sandwich tray with salad is a perfect and seriously do not skip out on the cookie platter so so worth it!
I drive past this Bakery daily. I finally took the time to stop and Im glad I did. I had the best blueberry scone Ive ever had. Quaint little bakery tucked into a neighborhood. I cant wait to stop again and try the other choices.
A little pricey but the food and service are amazing. Lots of gluten free options.
Loved this quaint little place while visiting Grand Rapids. The calzone was huge and the wine very smooth. The sandwiches and soup looked delicious too!
Great selections of breakfast sandwiches and pastries. I was surprised with how good the coffee was. Service was a little slow but quite friendly.
Gluten-free cinnamon rolls. What more can I say?? Theyre better than I remember the glutenous ones being! They also make any sandwich with GF bread! Good breakfast sandwiches.
Only place around to get gluten free without ordering it a month ahead of time. Quaint place for lunch or small party
My favorite place to get pizza. Its so delicious, straight from the brick oven. I also like that they sell yesterdays bread for half price. The ambiance is pleasant and the location convenient.
Great local bakery with a nice neighborhood feeling. The crust on their pizza is really delicious! They also have a small, but decent selection of draft beers on tap.
Wasnt that busy, but we waited over an hour for our pizza. No updates either, until I went to the counter 45 minutes after ordering to see what was the hold up. They gave us 2 free pastries to compensate. Havent eaten here in a while, but this wasnt a good experience to return to. Typically have better service, thus the three stars. Wont deter me from dining here again unless Im on a tighter schedule.
Great food! Fun local atmosphere.Glasswhere needs to bee polished though. Sometimes the glasses look dirty!
Update: food and atmosphere are still excellent. I hate the tables. Nearly everyone one is wobbly and many have napkins shoved underneath in an attempt to stabilize them.Food it high quality and delicious. Been here multiple times for breakfast. Two complaints - the first is minor, takes a little long to get your order (worth the wait). The 2nd is I had a bacon cheese scone and it was so salty I couldnt eat it all. Everything thing else was spot on. I definitely would go back again.
I meet clients here often. It is a great coffee shop, nice pastries, great breakfast sandwiches. The employees are friendly and fast.
Food is good, but service is so, so slow. This is the 3rd time it has been like this recently. Im close to deciding that the quality if the food does not outweigh the unreliable service. I really try to support local / small businesses, but . . .
Had a great variety of food and drinks, also serves wine and beer :) Great for all ages!Soup was amazing! Service was great too.
Great food but it takes FOREVER! We ordered a pizza, bread sticks, and a salad and its taken over an HOUR since we placed the order I made this review while waiting for my food....
It was very good, the guy who took my order was great food was also time being when they had just opened
I’ve been going to Wealthy and Hall Street bakeries for a long time. Their staff has always been very aloof at both locations. A lot of their pastries make me go back though. The Townies are the best. Almond and chocolate bear claws are unforgettable. Cranberry almond scones are a must. The coffee is okay. All around worth going to as long as you’re not looking for exceptional customer service.
We are here at least once a week and never had a bad experience. Husband loves their pizza and I love their gluten free cupcakes. Fair prices and quality everytime
Excellent baked goods. My favorite are the scones. Get there early for a better selection. Friendly and fast service
The food is still very good, but its clear theyre not taking as much care with it. In addition, prices have gone up significantly, and the sandwiches have gotten smaller. When you try to order at the counter, theyll suggest you sit down to be waited on, which means that you now feel constrained to tip on top of the already inflated prices. Finally, the service has gone downhill. We ordered to go at the counter the other day and a while later saw kitchen staff put up a to-go bag. It sat in the kitchen for five minutes before we asked the guy at the counter if that was our order. It was.
Very friendly place and went there just before the noon time rush, I bet there was 5 people in line but only one person on staff to take lunch orders, bag baked goods, make coffee and even have to take phone calls. So the wait was long, unfortunately there wasnt another person on staff that would help. This wasnt the first time this has happened, maybe there needs to be more staff working during the heavy traffic times.
Trendy, cozy and warm place.Friendly employees and a great many decisions on What to order. I couldnt make up my mind so I got three items and brought two of them home with me Kind of on the expensive side. But worth it.
Really good ham/cheese croissant! Also, the barista was very helpful and told.me about some cool places to eat in the area.
Love hanging out here and getting some work done. Id recommend the ham and cheese croissant!
Great selection of cold and hot drinks. Nice baked good options, I opted for the gigantic banana bread and it was tasty! Good prices, clean, restrooms as well!
