Since moving to Eugene in 2015, Ive gotten almost all my books at J Michaels. Their staff are super helpful and really responsive. They get shipments really fast. Dare I say often as fast as Amazon and I love supporting an independent bookstore. Also, theres no wasted packaging and diesel from some truck driving all over to each house because I can just pick it up when Im downtown.Browsing is awesome. They put some really fascinating books out on display and they have great advice.Unlike shopping online, going in person means its easy to break out of a reading habit. Thats because I see things that are unrelated to what I usually read or think about. Its a subtle, overlooked, and great thing about real places and people.

Such a great store. Really big and charming. Good assortment of new and used books. Im a nerd for used books so I stuck to that-- accidentally bought seven! Chatted with the owner a bit, too. Nice guy! Hope to go back one day.

This book shop is great! The book keepers were so generous and eager to help as I was in a rush for a book as a gift. They got the book for me RIGHT AWAY in a couple of hours even. The selection was massive and the prices were fair. The store itself is in a great location and very well kept and easy to browse. I suggest any book nerd to stop by.

Great selection and atmosphere! The attendant at the time gave me the dirtiest look when I asked where I could find a copy of nineteen eighty-four, not sure if thats because I ruined their reading session, or maybe they dont like the book. Either way, great shop, I picked up a trio of books on my first go around which isnt the status quo, the old tick tock clock adds an ambiance that im sure most book readers would appreciate, and since there isnt a coffee shop inside, you can really appreciate the collection a little more with all 5 of your senses!

Always have what I want and more. The used section is a treasure trove of hidden gems. Ive found books that are more or less unknown outside of academic circles as well as some of my favorite pieces of escapism. Great book store.

Their rare collection of art books is jaw-dropping. Excellent taste in books with their general and featured selection, easy to find the new and unexpected. Wonderful little book store and a great location downtown.

J Michael Books is a wonderful little bookstore in the heart of downtown Eugene. Dont let the size fool you though, new and used books neatly line ever wall. Youll find only new books on display tables and stands, but a richer experience gliding along the tall shelves where the evolution of past and present book editions wait to get picked up. This is great because I found myself appreciating older books more! I left with a small manifesto booklet on acting as a democratic citizen against tyranny. It was the kind I would never have found at Barnes and Noble. Just saying...

A beautiful bookstore, with excellent books.

Older man with glasses was unhelpful and dismissive, walked away from me without finishing our conversation. Service was slow and he left me standing at the counter without a goodbye. While it is a beautiful store and they were very polite on the phone, the customer service is unacceptable and I will not be returning.

Right now, due to Covid 19, they are taking appointments for shopping. They gave a great selection of new and used books.

I love supporting small bookstores and this one has been a favorite of mine! They can easily order in anything you want and it gets there pretty quickly as well.

Very high end, couldnt use any of my trade-in books eventhough several were of the type on the shelves, expensive for a used book store.

Excellent selection

Missing many big titles by a lot of authors. This place seemed to be missing a lot of the best books from the last decade. Huge, huge variety but little organization and no help from the staff whatsoever.

Astounded at the quality and quantity of good used books at this store. Easily the best selection to be found in this area of Oregon! What a pleasant surprise!!!!

This is a gem of a bookstore! There is a large selection of new, used, and collectible books at this bookseller. In addition, there is routinely a large sale section of books from which to choose.
