My first time dealing with this CarMax. My husband called and made an appointment for 4pm at the Escondido location. We showed up to a 4 hour wait because a marathon pushed all the customers from that location to this one and our appointment was magically made for San Clemente and not Escondido. I was sitting next to my husband when he made the appointment and he asked the lady who made the appointment two times, this is for the Escondido location, correct? And she said, yes, absolutely both times.The man at the front desk at this location said he did see our 4pm appointment but it was for the San Clemente location. But that they couldnt see us here today because they are already at a 4 hour wait. Im 7months pregnant and our son is 14 months old. Getting out here wasnt easy, thats why we made the appointment.It really feels like they moved our appointment because they were so booked.

Percy, the salesmen was good...however, the car was a mess. still have sticky goop on front windshield..... I cant get it off. Suggestooons??????THEY LEFT A RAZOR BLADE ON MY DASH BOARD....HELLO!!!!

I bought my car here the salesman was very nice and helpful but they scratched my car when drove it to fill up the gas tank after I bought the car. I didnt realize that until I got home . It was a small scratch so I lets it go and I dont think I can make them repair that for me anyway. So check your car carefully before leaving the lot.Moreover, the service &repair here is not as good as the Kearny Mesa location. I brought my car back for a simple 4 wheels alignment but they didnt do it correctly so I had to brought it to the Kerny Mesa location to fix that.

I received a great price for my trade in, great price for my new car, and our sales person was great. The only reason Im giving this two stars is that it took 6 1/2 hours to do all of this. We spent most of that time sitting doing nothing, but asking every half hour what is the hold up?? I finally went to the manager and said that if we dont go into signing the paperwork in 5 minutes Im walking out - then magically we finished everything in 5 minutes. VERY FRUSTRATING!

Made an appointment to sell a SUV. I arrived a few minutes early so I could check in. I was told at the front desk the wait would be 2 hours. Definitely unprofessional. I know that they are busy but whats the point of making an appointment. One star may be a little high.

It was such an easy process. I got an online offer, I checked it against some dealerships trade-in offer, then I took it to CarMax to sell. I was in and out within about 2 hours while they checked out the car and completed the transfer paperwork. This is the second time that Ive sold a car to CarMax, and I wouldnt hesitate to do it again in the future.

Except for having to wait nearly four hours to complete the buying/trade-in/financial process because of a down computer system with no back-up plan to sell cars, CarMax treated us fairly well. The bottom-line is I wouldve given 5 stars had CarMax not left us with no place to go except inside and outside the bldg. We were hungry and stuck for four hours of waiting.

Excellent! Bought my car from CarMax—sold my car to CarMax. Fair and easy process. Buying/selling a car is one of my least favorite things to do, but CarMax made it easy.

We were selling a car with low mileage and not a scratch on it. We were taken immediately To an efficient and polite young woman who took some information and Car keys. We were brought to a Waiting room which was 75% occupied. We were told an inspector would go over our car and it would take about an hour.At approximately that time, she returned and told us our car was acceptable and showed us into the business area. A polite and professional young man told us the business aspect of our visit would take about an hour and 1/2.An hour and 28 minutes later, a woman from the business office took us into another room with dividers between each interview area. She was very personable and answered all of our questions very well. We signed numerous papers and left with an adequate bank draft. We were both very impressed with our first visit to Carmax.

Had them bring a car to Escondido from Temecula. No problem. Test drove car, liked it, bought it. Whole process took a bit over an hour. Everyone very competent and polite.

Let me start by saying that I gave 4 stars only because their inventory on what I was looking for is very low. There were only 3 options available for what I wanted. However, the customer service from Nick R. was exceptional. He didnt rush me and was very patient with my indecisiveness. He took the time to show me vehicles that were able to be shipped from another store. He was kind, spoke about his family and stayed with me throughout the entire process. I highly recommend Nick as a sales consultant, if youre in the market for a new vehicle.Annette in finance was also very helpful. She was friendly and efficient. She properly read through the documentation and provided copies for my review.Lastly, My only negative is that the car was dirty. The previous owner must’ve had a pet. It was covered in hair. Plus, needed a inside detail. Most dealerships wash & clean the car before sending it with the customer.

Hassle free car shopping. Went in wanting to look at the trucks in stock, was pointed in the direction of the trucks and was able to look at what they had with out any pushy sales person bothering me.The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. They made sure I got the truck I wanted and was satisfied with my purchase. I will definitely go back to look for my next vehicle and highly recommend to friends and family.

Lets see where do I start.... they drove my car 5 miles, adjusted the seat and rear view mirror...they put on the appraisal form there were scratches on the hood of the car.....I washed the car before I came in dry the the whole car and wiped off smudges. I did a full inspection of the car before I brought it to carmax. I notice this scratch on the hood when I came home.... wth..

Really enjoyed the experience with this Carmax location. My consultant was Mir, go and see him for a vehicle purchase. Looking forward to purchasing a vehicle from here in the future

1 month ago they gave me a much better price for my car so was not happy with what I got. Secondly, they took over 3 hrs to get my transaction completed from estimate to get a check.Last, I was told there is no competitor match guaranteed? What gives? If I wasnt pressed for time I would have gone with Autionation who offered me more money for my car.

Excellent. Justin was patient with us. He was thorough and very helpful in making sure that the car we came to see was, in fact, the car for us. He allowed us to walk away - no guilt - and then we returned to buy the car the next day, after discussing overnight, without feeling pressured. All the financing was done online and with a phone call to confirm - no hassle. By the time we returned to the lot, all we had to do was sign paperwork and pick up the car! We are very happy with our decision - and very happy with our car!

Unbelievable, got a quote for my car online. Higher price than anyone else would give me. Took my car in. They verified everything I said, and then cut me a check for the amount promised. I wont ever deal with any other dealership for used cars.

Great customer service. If you dont like to negotiate for cars this is the best place to go. Unfortunately I like to find the best deal and negotiate plus I never buy extended warranties. But this time they had a really good car for a reasonable price, gave me a fair trade in offer and the extended warranty was not that expensive and I can use it for 5 years on any major part in the car. And if you dont like the car within 30 days you can return it. Most dealerships you have to pay extra for this.

Arrival and inspection were smooth, but then they provided me an offer on a different version (non-performance) of my vehicle, which is six to eight thousands dollars less valuable. When I notified them, they went back to their computer, then came back a few minutes later, saying my value was the same, since it was the same battery size. Needless to say they arent getting my business, and as someone who is in the auto industry, I will steer people away from CarMax, especially the Escondido location.

My husband had been thinking about selling his 2019 RAM 1500, we had been told to check out CarMax. My husband went online filled out the car buying form on CarMax and answered all the questions best we could and we were given a great price that CarMax would buy our vehicle for. I honestly assumed once we got there that CarMax would talk you down or hardly give you what was quoted but THEY GAVE US EXACTLY WHAT WAS QUOTED, NOTHING LESS!!!!! Best, easiest experience EVER!!

Unlike the location in Kearny Mesa which was terrible on both occasions - the process, service and personnel were way better in Escondido - quick, gave me the $ it said online and were nice enough to accompany me to the car after I recalled leaving a charger there.

I love CarMax but really was disappointed at this Escondido location.mainly with one gentleman,however this gentleman wouldn’t give me the time of day after himself checking me in and having me walk on the lot for over an hour just to literally say”oh i can’t help you”..didn’t even hear what I had to say.went to their Kearney Mesa location and was helped.

Even though I had issues with my car the Carmax staff made everything worthwhile. They are all focused on customer service and understanding and taking care of of all your concerns. “High Quality Care”

I got a quote from CarMax online to buy out my leased luxury car. The number was more than 2 other dealers were offering. One of those dealers was the dealer I leased the car from! And higher than KBB was offering. The time was right due to the positive equity I had in it. No BS, no bait and switch, no changing the offer like the other dealers did. They validated all the information I filled out online and cut me a check! I dont always go through CarMax to sell vehicles but in this case it was the best and quickest way to go.

I had an oil change done. I was quoted an hour and a half, but to my surprise it was done in 45 minutes. It was a full synthetic product and it was about half the price of Jiffy Lube.Im a happy customer.

Percy was super helpful and efficient. I had to bring my two kids under 4 to test out how both car seats would fit. He was very helpful and patient with that chaos. He made the paperwork go quickly and smoothly.

Well how can I say this. This place can be an scam. You need do your homework before buying and make sure check on Carfax which you have to buy on your own. They use different applications which wont show all history. One of my family member brought her frist car Toyota SUV @CarMax brought 6 month ago. She wanted to traded for better gas mileage. So I went meet her at CarMax to check out of car she wanted. Im not an expert mechanic, but I use to work on my own cars. So I check everything and its check out. When come to motor, I always check motor oil. Oh boy I told her walk alway. It had water in oil. So we went to Kia dealership try get something different. When they pull Carfax on Toyota for trade in, turns out it had an accident last year. CarMax lied to us about the history on Toyota. So we went back to CarMax, oh boy I went in hot wanted talk to manger. I told him the situation he didnt seem surprised, when I brought up California Lemon law. Then he cut me off said we gonna stop there. Oh got me more heated. So I ask him for corporate number and his info. I know he wasnt happy. The Saleman was very professional he tried work every out. Which they did. They made a trade like she never had the Toyota SUV, with a discount. I dont blame these workers, I blame the corporates company allowing this to happen. So please do your homework and Carfax. Especially oil check. I dont like bashing companies but when taking advantage of people new to this, its so wrong every level.

I purchased a car from this location. Not the experience I was hoping for with CarMax. It was an extremely busy day, however they were not organized. From not being able to determine if a car is actually available for purchase, to not providing up to date waiting times. We went to eat because we were told we had 45 min-1 hr before signing, they could have called us when our turn was up, instead, we had to wait an additional 45 minutes because they skipped us. The car was not cleaned like it was promised.

I did not have a good experience with Carmax. The process was so long to buy a car. They messed up the contact so I had to go back and it was a long process. I just purchased the vehicle 1 month ago and yesterday it started overheating already. I had to take the car in so they could fix it. I thought there was a thorough checklist done before selling the vehicle that everything is functioning properly but obviously that was not the case with me.

After trying to sell my truck on FB Marketplace and only getting offers $3000-$4500 below my price, a friend suggested CarMax. I got an on-line offer from CarMax that was reasonable and a little more than an hour after I entered CarMax with my on-line offer, I left with a check in my pocket. Get a good deal that fit into my budget.I test drove several cars and found one I liked. Wrapped up the deal. I was stoked. Well the car had a few issues after the first couple days. I talked to a manager and I decided to return the vehicle and get a different one. They say things happen for a reason. I found the perfect car for me. No hassle and stress free. And the most important part is that the price is right. The trade-in from dealer is too low. Ive posted my car on Auto Trader, but it will take time to reach the potential buyers. However, private party selling is stressful since you dont know who youre dealing with. Car Max got me a quote through Edmund Website. And that is within the price that I am willing to settle for my private party selling.

My experience at Carmax has always been excellent. I recently sold a car. It has a few scratches and had not been perfectly cared for in regard to the interior. They offered a great price and from the price being honored to the lovely young woman who transferred the title and gave me my check, the experience was easy and NOT stressful.

Had some rattling/vibrations coming from the engine and brought my car in for service. Rick Stokes was assigned my case. I asked specifically for updates at every stage of the process(when the parts came in, when they started the work, eta, etc) Rick obliged no problem. I asked for all status updates via text, Rick obliged no problem. After the repairs have been made, the car drives great 👍. If you are bringing your car in for service or for post purchase repairs, ask for Rick.

While our sales associate, Rachel, was great, fantastic even, the administrative side of our car buying experience was awful. We had to come back after getting nothing accomplished in 5 hours one day. They were short staffed or just packed and it led to a pretty terrible waiting experience with little to no customer service during our wait.

I really enjoyed buying a car from Carmax. My salesperson, Nicholas, was very easy to work with. The whole process was stress-free and extremely time efficient.

Absolute worst place to buy a car. They took my $ for a vehicle transfer, cancelled my transfer (after I paid), then sold my vehicle to another customer. Could not give me a reason for the cancellation. Hung up on me when I called, asking why they sold my vehicle to another customer.

Extremely fast and easy, car ended up back in the shop there 2 times in the first month though. I understand things happen, but the customer service has been absolutely amazing the whole time. That’s why I’m giving 5 stars. Mad the car messed up, mad it happened 2 times, but they were fast, didn’t try to jump around the issues, and got 1/2 fixed so far with no problems. Highly recommend the team there, but definitely maybe bring a mechanic.

Quite possibly the easiest car buying experience I have ever experienced. They transferred a truck from another lot for me within 24 hours of the request and made the entire process stress free and quick for me. The trade in process was pretty smooth as well. I started on-line and sent specific pictures and ended up getting a higher offer from Car Max than I did at other dealerships. I could have made a little more with a private party sale but it wasnt worth the hassle for me.

When we first went into carmax it was a struggle I was in california and my dad was in michigan, he wS my cosigner. They tried to tell us he had to be out there to do the signing which wasnt possible...after I started to get frustrated then they said oh well we can get you paper work and you can have him fill it out and mail back. So we said okay...then went to the next person to find a car she tried to tell us we couldnt do that that he had to be there...after we told her we were just told different she went and checked then came back saying it was fine. Nobody really seemed to know exactly what they were doing....then we had to spend over 30 bucks to have the paperwork overnighter and my dad had to pay to overnight it back. They had forgotten to mark a spot he was suppised to sign so they had to send it to him again. Finally we were able to get a car. The last guy that helped us was actually good and seemed to know what he was doing. And its nice that they offer maxcare. They just need to get their ducks in a row so they dont do so much back and forth on their information.

Worst experience ever. I was hoping to buy a car and the girl who helped me name Raquel made me wait 2 hours. It looked like she didn’t want to work she kept walking back and worth ignoring me acting like if I wasn’t their. I ended up walking out because of the bad service. DON’T COME TO THE ESCONDIDO LOCATION.

Great service! I went there for my car valuation. They took my details and asked me to wait by car with all doors open, windows down and hood up. After 15 min. one gentleman came and asked me to turn on engine. It took 5 minutes for him then I was offered to wait for 30-40 minutes for paper quotation or get quote over email. I left and got the quote over email in 30 minutes. Quote was not bad!

Great customer service! I went in to get a quote for trading in my car. Service was fast, everyone I spoke to was extremely polite are kind and knew what they were doing. I ultimately did not do any business with them, but it was a very positive experience.

Ive used their services several times. I sold 6 cars to them over the last couple years. I have not bought a car through them yet so I cant comment on that. But selling is a very convenient process. You schedule an appointment to get an appraisal. This can take from 20-60 minutes. If you walk on, expect to wait at least an hour. They get busy. They give you a written appraisal, good for 7 days. You can shop it around, as I did last time (the dealer matched the price). Otherwise, bring the car in with your appraisal and you will be out of there within an hour. Check in hand or loan paid off. No DMV. They take care of all that. Yes you can get a better price if you sell it yourself but you cant beat the convenience of selling to them. Much better than trading it in to a dealer. I will continue to use them.

First I want to say the negative reviews seem to come from a lack of understanding and preparation in a car buying procesa and are blaming the dealer for that. I feel most of what Ive read they would have the same experience at any dealer they went to.Now, my opinion. I worked in automotive for 12 almost 13 years. Specifically on the auto auction side where I worked with many car dealers. Lets say I finally had enough and changed career paths to get away from the industry. So I tend to go to dealerships a bit jaded.How ever, buying a car at CarMax is incredibly easy. They make it fully transparent from the loan process, who approved you, rates, terms, and what is or isnt doable. They have a nice selection on and off site of cars to choose from. The staff is always helpful and nice. Trisha Soderstra my sales rep was absolutely amazing and on top of it. She was one step a head of everyone else though the process which made it quick and seamless.Yes there was a wait, they are incredibly busy. Yes the process takes a while. Even though I had pre-approval, knew my car, and was ready with all documents the process still took a while to get though. Its expected that buying a car is a long process.With the hundreds of car dealers Ive worked with I can honestly say I wont purchase a used car from anyone else other then carmax, they never try to up-sale or pressure you into things you dont want or cant afford. They worst part of a dealership is all the nonsense extended warranty and extra coverages they make you suffer though to try and increase their sales. Carmax is hands down the most transparent and easiest auto company to work with.

This had to be the worst experience Ive ever had with a car dealership, and Ive had a few over the years. I drove 100 miles to test drive BMW M240i, the car I was looking for and had already decided I will buy. I WAS SOLD before I even got there....I was ready to buy and it was done deal as far as I was concerned.......and yet somehow CarMax managed to make it impossible for me to make a deal and buy the car, so I had to drive back another 100 miles and completely waste my whole Saturday because of the complete lack of transparency and an incompetent sale associate. What Ive learned the hard way is that CarMax will low ball you for your trade-in and offer you only the cash price, regardless of whether you are selling them the car or you are trading it in. Usually a trade-in is higher because you are also buying from them. While I understand they can do whatever they want with their business, I wish they were more transparent with their policy upfront, especially after I asked specifically number of times about the trade-in, so I didnt have to waste my time. The sale associate assured me at the beginning they will work with me but when the time came for us to make the deal, I wasnt given any choice but to accept their low ball cash offer even though I was trading-in. So I walked and I wonder, how many ready to buy customers walk away every day from a deal they are ready to make, and how much $$$ that translates in lost revenue due to the lack of transparency. I called and spoke wit PJ in their customer relations and I got the standard oh I am so sorry....lol ...Please at least make an attempt to remedy the situation by offering a solution. This is what a good business would do. But your sorry will change nothing and your bad reputation will continue to grow as I am clearly not the only unsatisfied customer with CarMax judging by all the negative reviews on line.BE AWARETrade-In=Cash Price=CarMax=👎🏻

Your service was poor, at best. So bad, not worth the input. Hoping your competitors put you out of business. So bad, even though CARMAX still has obligations to fix the car I just bought, Id rather pay someone else rather then get it for free.
