Sold me the wrong parts in a very time sensitive job when I asked them triple check the Parts, they costed me extra money at the mechanic. I Called ahead for Volvo REAR brake calipers, I needed to be in and out. Parts werent ready, took almost 20 minutes to find. I asked them 3X are you sure these are REARS? After dropping my car off to the mechanic I get a call that they are the wrong calipers. had to pay so much extra to the mechanic for the time on the lift.

Please be aware and check your receipt before leaving, they are over reporting the mileage to Carfax by a lot !!! In one month I had the same over reporting twice on two different cars, have all the receipts from them. Instead of 14.5k miles they reported 50k 😪

Absolutely baffled by the terrible customer service experience here. If your looking for a speed shop stay away. Not only did the rep. Not not understand what a -16an fitting was, he refused me service if u didnt have part numbers. if you dont have part numbers, I cant help you absolutely abysmal.Pepboys touts this as the speed shop experience, in fact, the only one in the area. I would recommend they step into a real local speed shop to experience the knowledge and service that customers expect from a REAL speed shop.If I could rate it 0 stars, I would.

DO NOT expect for your scheduled appointment to make a difference here. I had an 11am appointment and it is now 3pm. I still do not have my vehicle. They do not update you on the status of your car and take their sweet time. It should not take 4+ hours to put on 4 tires when there’s a schedule appointment. I do not recommend going here unless you want to waste your entire day.

Conveniently located on RT18, been goingg there for years for all sorts of automotive bits and bobs. Excellent selection of car cleaning supplies. The sweet lad in the parts department and the service managers were lovely.

I went to Pep Boys for oil change. I end up paying for services in addition to the oil change. I will not be assure if that is exactly what my car needed.But this place should ask the customer first if he or she is interested in a calendar instead of scanning it without saying anything. I thought it was free only to find out if costs $10.00.It appears to me that this place is trying to get sales on stuffs that is not needed (e.g. calendar) or other small services.I will go back to the other pep boys.

I ordered running boards for my Silverado from Pep Boys. When they arrived I set up an appointment to have them installed. A few hours later the service rep called me to tell me that the install brackets have not come in yet so I went to pick up my truck. When I got there he told me that my truck would need to have holes drilled for the install so he said were not doing it. At that point I decided these people do not know what theyre doing so I told them to cancel the order. I was literally there for an hour. The cashier said the refund wont go through so my choices were store credit or cash. I couldnt believe what I was hearing. Finally the store manager called someone to find out how to do the refund. Over the years I spent thousands of dollars for my cars in this particular Pep boys, the one on Rt18, East Brunswick, and this is how I was treated. The service rep was rude and obviously lacking knowledge about running boards for my truck.

My mother brought her car in for a pair of tires. Upon further review it was recommended she get (4) tires, alignment, balance of the tires, oil change, brake pads, rotors, and bleeding of the brakes. About 2 weeks later her battery died and got it dropped of at pep boys for a new battery. About 2 hours later one of the con artist calls my mom and tells her not only does she need a new battery but she needs new brake pads, rotors, break lines, and bleeding of the breaks. After work we both went there to see why she needed break work and this con artist comes with a used break pad explains to my mom and I why she needs the “break job” done. In a fit of rage I slammed the paper work down on his desk and said “ that’s funny she was just here 2 weeks ago for the same job minus the break lines. My advice would be to stay away from pep boys. They are scumbags there!

Pep Boys on RT 18 (East Brunswick) has the worst service. Waited to check out for over 10 minutes, had the service manger page and still no one. I call the store and the manager gives me an attitude that I should have walked to the parts, that he didnt hear the page (must be busy on his phone waiting for directions) when the guy next to me heard it with me. Then he pages the JO caisher and he needs a few more mins because hes busy playing around with mufflers. I just told him forget about it and keep up the shi.ty work. Just left my stuff on the counterBeen going to Pep Boys for over 20 years and I finally had enough of them. I will never recommend going there or will I ever go to another Pep Boys again. Clearly no corporate training!!!

If there was a zero star rating I would have given this place! My mom towed her car to their because it stopped working and they charged us $105 for the diagnosis like thats too much and thats without any work even done to the car! But this is not the problem the problem is that they lost the car key and the staff were so rude and they were not looking closely. We stayed there waiting for them to find the keys for almost 20 mins! There was no folder with the car diagnosis and keys. They finally found the key inside the car! One of the mechanic left it there! What kind of service is this! I highly dont recommend you go fix your car or tow your car to there. Their services is poor and they are so slow.

They hike up prices! They told me that I needed a 600$ brake work when I actuallyDid not need it according to another place. They told my sister she needed axle and brake change and she only needed axle change. They quoted her at 500$ for the axle including labor and a total of 1700 $ and we later on got the axle work done for 200$. Nothing else was needed! Would not recommend!

I usually dont have any problems but today even with an appointment, I made the beginning of the week for 9:30 am. For an oil change. Which by the way they told me would take at most 45 minutes. They did not take my car into the garage until after 10:30 am. It then took more than an hour more until they were done. It turned out I needed a tire. Normally it would not matter but I vas very pressed for time and I mentioned this when I made the appointment. I feel they should have told me there was a problem and they would not get to me for more than an hour, giving me the choice if I wanted to wait or reschedule. I understand things happen, I just feel they could have informed me before I waited over an hour instead of apologising for my additional wait, right after they told me I needed a new tire and sevice would take an hour or so longer. If you take the time to make an appointment I feel they should make sure those with appointments get serviced before those who just walk in, providing those with the appointment get there on time, which I did by 9:25am.

DO NOT use pep boys to do any maintenance or repairs on your car. I dropped my car off for a simple oil change and ended up needing to get a new car. They called and claimed I needed to get a coolant flush when it was recently done at another facility and told them no. They called again claiming the oil drain plug was stripped and that they can thread the bolt or put a new oil pan on and would cost $700, which would not be worth it to put on that car. They called again saying they would have to drop the oil pan to thread the bolt because of the angle of it and that would cost at least $250 on top of the threading kit. When we went to go get the car towed out of there I stated that we better not get charged for it and the manager replied by asking why I shouldn’t be charged with a horrible attitude. These people just want to find a way to pry money in any which way they can. They saw an old car with high mileage and thought they could get one over on us.

Went to them for a battery change as recommended by my mechanic. They told me I also needed my cars alternator changed. That was an additional $700 in repairs. I went back to my mechanic who showed me that the alternator was fine and I just needed a battery change. Im giving them 2 stars because it was actually the cheapest place for my battery change. I dont appreciate the deceit though.

I wanted to change the motor oil every time they left the cover outside and did not return it to its position, so some rain water leaked into the motor oil, and therefore I had a problem with the car motor and the second problem in the second car. They wanted to change the air filter or the motor. To get inside the filter and also ran into some problemsDon’t go there so bad service

When you ask a garage to tow your car for service, you dont get charged for towing when the car is serviced at the towing garage. This Pep Boys store charged me for the towing anyway no matter how I argued. Very disappointed.

I went to get my tires mounted on Wednesday, late at night everything was done properly everything was up to standards except for the condition of my car. I am a clean person and I like keeping my car perfectly clean however once I had a chance to look at what happened after my service appointment, I didn’t even wanna be in my own car. There was some kind of sticky dirt all over the wheel, there was also some kind of soot on the seat itself, and the last bit is that I have material mats instead of the rubber ones and the oily/dirty footprints cannot come out whatsoever. They did the job but the conditions of which they left my car in after, it’s completely disgusting.

Called this shop after work around 8:15pm to schedule an appointment for the next day and was invited to stop by for a fix. Unfortunately the tire was not salvageable, new tires were installed and saved me some time by being able to add an oil change within a 30 minute time-frame. My cashier Kenan explained the tires situation and advised accordingly. Also, explained an available coupon to save me a few bucks on the oil change along with the promos on the new tires. Satisfied with my service.

Don’t even bother making an appointment here. The first time I made an appointment I had to wait over two hours. I thought maybe it was a slow day and I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Made another appointment for an oil change today and three hours later my car isn’t even being serviced yet. The service manager was short with me and after requesting a discount on my service for the immense waste of time this whole process was, I was offered $15 off my synthetic oil. The lady sitting next to us was told to come in at 11:30 for her 12pm appointment and her car hasn’t been serviced yet either. It’s 1:15pm. Look at the other reviews and don’t bother with this place. Corporate or management, or whoever responds to reviews requests customers to email them with concerns. Why would I waste more of my valuable time with this company? Next time I’m going to the local auto zone. Shame on this store for their lack of consideration of their customer’s time.

I came to this location for the synthetic oil change and I have been recommend to change cabin filter and my brand new tires because I am loosing thread on it. Come on Pepboys try to be honest and genuine. 15 K miles on my tires and you asking me to change my SUV tires (all 4). I asked simple question, on which angle I am loosing thread on my tires, and he was looking at my face. Boss show me the proof with green and red mark otherwise I don’t believe on words. Answer was NO....Will find some other place next time. Will not recommend this location.Miles on my SUV 77,867 and after getting mine synthetic oil changed the sticker pasted on my glass was 80,867. 3000 K miles. Did they really put synthetic oil in my SUV or they charged for synthetic and dropped regular oil.NOT AN AUTHENTIC PLACE FOR CAR SERVICE. CUSTOMERS BE CAREFUL....

I went to this shop with my check engine light on and VSC OFF light on and VSC TRAC light on and my SUV had only one code for an oxygen sensor and it wouldnt start due to an ignitionproblem and I asked for a complete diagnostic on my SUV and when I got my SUV back they performed work on it that I never asked them to do and they gave me one of their batteries and told me my battery was dead and my battery was only two months old brand new from AutoZone and now it had more codes on it and the check ingine light was still on and I payed over a $1000 dollarsand they completely ripped me off during the pandemic

Finally got some to review my experience with this Pep Boys location. I approached this place when my car battery and alternator were down and this is only nearby location open on that day, towed my car to this location. Good that they accepted this request just before closing time and to help me out sooner. They checked thoroughly and confirmed I had to replace battery and Alternator, later while fixing these 2 parts they came back and said we need to replace radiator also for which I end up paying part amount and as a courtesy they covered labor expense though I need not to pay the price for that part. I argued but they said that part is not available at that location and need to buy from outside so they cant give it for free. I argued and they gave some more % discount overall. And most important thing is they said everything is fixed and they gave car next day but interesting thing is, it broke down again with in 3 miles of travel, with in half an hour, again I had to tow my car and dropped off since it was night and shop was closed. They fixed something next day morning and made it ready, now its running smooth. So unnecessarily I end up towing twice to fix the same issue. Overall its not so great experience at this location

Prep boys has the worst customer service ever!!!!!I Bought a gas tank front them because I ran out of gas but I couldn’t use the product because the nozzle was too short for my car and most importantly it was leaking when I tried to use it. Came back to this this store to return it, the guy at the front refused to return it because it smelled gas. I tried to explain to him that I needed it to carry gas and it failed to do the job and worst it could’ve started I fire. I told him that I cannot use it because it is dangerous and he can try with water to test. Guy doesn’t want to listen. So, I let the gas tank at the front and left the store.I think he was the manager ( African American guy)First and last time shopping at prep boys. Never use this company.

Do not come here if you are on a set schedule. They do not honor appointments. This time is an hour and half past my appointment. All Im getting done is my tires balanced. I was explicit that I was on my lunch break when I dropped off the car (on time) and yet they still have not gotten it in. There answer is basically too bad, were busy.

This is the least favorite auto parts store of mine. The best thing going for Pep Boys is that they offer decent deals on new tires. This location on Route 18 in East Brunswick has about 10 bays to work on cars. However, their pricing on servicing cars has become almost as expensive as a dealership. They do offer a large variety of various products, such as electronics, jacks, rebuilt and new parts. Some of the staff is not as knowledgeable as they should be. Their parts pricing is comparable to their competitors.

Gotta give these guys a shout out--had my car battery replaced today. The service rep. was polite and efficient. He recommended I have the engine evaluated for other problems--but said if it was just the battery, it wouldnt end up costing extra. Turned out it was just the battery--true to their word I paid a fair price. Good selection of batteries too. Took 1.5 hours--if they could have kept it to an hour theyd get the 5 stars. Positive experience overall.

Just had a great experience at this location and I have Larry Williamson and his staff to thank. Specifically I do want to say most of my interaction dealt with Jorge Perez who was kind enough to tell me the ins and outs of what was needed on my vehicle. He was professional, courteous, and provided superb service throughout my experience there. Jorge along with Johan Alarcón were kind enough to arrange transportation to and from the shop as my car was being worked on. As a single mother. It’s these small details that make a difference. As far as the mechanics, great guys and a special shout out to Luis Estrella and Hass Hunter. Overall, I can’t thank you guys enough. Car is running better than ever.

I bought a used vehicle and the check engine light came on 3 days after I got home with it. Also the vehicle did not have an inspection sticker so I only had 30 days to get one on the car before risking being pulled over and getting a ticket by the local authorities. I took the vehicle here to have them put it on the computer and tell me what was wrong with it. The computer Diagnostics charge was $90. They called me on the phone about 3 hours later to tell me that it was a faulty oxygen sensor in the tank. I only had 24 hours left to get it fixed and get the check engine light off to get the car inspected so I really had no other choice but to let them fix it besides for the fact that I had already had to pay the $90 4 the computer Diagnostics. I would have been better off if I had looked around and had more time. So when they called I told them to go ahead and fix it they said they would call me when it was ready. Not more than 30 minutes later they called me and said that the car was fixed and the check engine light was off. 2 hours later I went to go pick the car up and the bill was $484. Mind you $90 of it was for the computer Diagnostics so for that one oxygen sensor to be replaced cost me $394. The actual part was only about $80 and the other $314 was for labor. On the receipt it said I was being charged for two hours of Labor at $157 per hour. I wouldnt have minded it so much but the fact of the matter is it only took them 20 to 30 minutes of Labor to fix my car. Being that they called me on the phone at exactly 3 p.m. to tell me what was wrong with the car I then told them to fix the car and at 3:20 they called me back to tell me the car was fixed so how is it possible that you are charging me for two hours of Labor when I have proof through my phone calls that it only took you 20 minutes. Obviously they ripped me off. I never would have thought a major place like that would do something like that unless the mechanics are being paid commission which I was under the understanding that they get paid by the hour so I dont think its the mechanics that ripped me off I think that is Pep Boys themselves. I wonder how many other customers have been ripped off in this way?

Ive been going to this Pep Boys location for a few years now and they never disappoint. Great, friendly and helpful staff. I never felt like they were trying to take advantage of me. In fact, there have been two times where I had a loose part and they put it back together for free. I reccomend this location to everyone.

You come to this store and for the most part they have people that can find what you need and the parts counter is not always crowded. This is very different than going to AutoZone on Racetrack Road where everyone that needs to pay for something or needs parts are in the same line and when you get to speak to them hey are clueless.

Went there to solve a humming sound comming from the engine .I paid 52 dollars for diagnosticAnd they replace the alternator, the serpentine belt with the belt tensioner.After i took my car, the humming sound still remain because its not being cause by the parts they replace.i end up paying over 357 $and the original problem thet i came for still remain.They are just a bunch of shoe makers !!!🖕🖕🖕I put one start because its impossible to put none.And it looks like dont even bother to give them your contact informations, because they dont even respond.Its just a waste of your time and money dealing with these people.

Im a pep boys rewards member I had my car towed from Marlboro to your store yesterday I called this morning and spoke with Larry and he told me they didnt look at the car yet and will call when they do check my car @ 9:30ish am I get to the store at about 11:30 am still havent looked at my car Larry brings it in tells me its going to cost 1,700 to fix my intake manifold since it was leaking supposedly since engine light on and tell them yesterday the code p1299 on a Mercury grand Marquis gs told him no thanks for 1,700 had it towed to another mechanic and they told me that your manager Larry was a clown telling you 1,700 and it wasnt the intake manifold and half the stuff I was being charged for was a up sale and was the temperature gauge sensor that went bad so thats how your employees manager treat rewards members to rip them off great job with treating a rewards member like that I will never step foot in your stores again

One of the worst shops do not take your car there, I took my car there for a wheel alignment and oil change after spending 35 minutes in the waiting area mind you I already had an appointment and I arrived 10 minutes earlier, the lady at the front desk came out and said oh who did your oil change last time they did your oil filter very tight and we’re not doing your oil change, they might have damage it,I took my car to a private mechanic and he said that they broke my oil filter housing because they use the wrong range to open it up and it costed me $200 to fix very unprofessional poor customer service and above all they have no idea how to do their jobPep boys have reached out to me and paid for the repairs to get my car back up and running, thank you for that .

Charged me 60$ to change a fuse! I wanted to blow my top.. I told them what the problem was when I got there and yet it took a half hour of labor to put a fuse in? Unreal.. Then guy pulls my truck around with out having paper on the floor and leaves oil stains on my brand new mats! I have a Hummer H3 and if you know about them they stopped making them in 2010. Which means all parts and accessories are more money than what they are worth or originally were. I go into shop to look at what fuse it was so next time it happens I dont get raped and do it my self. The guy is pulling as hard as he can on my fuse box to get it open. Then walks away to get a tool to open it and while he does I push the clips in and open the box. Little effort at all to open but hey mechanics know everything right? Now one of the clips to my fuse box are broken and missing... Wonder how that happened? Now I bought the head light bulbs from there for 60$ but lets not include that in total... So a fuse just cost me like 100$ cause I have to clean my mats thoroughly, have to buy a new fuse box top cause it was broken and paid 60$ for the labor to put a fuse in! Not worth it at all and never will go back. The guy in the front Hass I believe his name was is the only good thing they got going there. But it wont be long before he realizes what he is and what he is working for. He has a future somewhere else. I would not refer anyone here cause of my experience. Let alone my wife got an oil change few days before this there and it 3 hours. Never again!

Store is OK, but I always seem to go on stock day and they have pallets of stuff blocking aisles and always the aisles I need. Service department here is just OK and you can expect to wait quite a while for nearly any service they do. I have had both tire and oil changes here and both took several hours so you are better off to leave your car rather than wait for it.

Had 2 tires rebalanced due to a road vibration. Got the car back and noticed that the vibration was lessened but the ride was extremely harsh on bumps. Checked the tire pressure and it was set at 42 lbs. In the tires that were rebalanced. The correct pressure cold is 30 lbs. Not sure what the service guy was thinking. Will need to watch these guys carefully if I use them again in the future.

I scheduled on-line oil change appointment for Saturday, 8 am. Came to the store and was told that 10-11 8 am appointments are in front of me, the store has only 1 mechanic and I have to wait 2 hours. What is the point of making appointment?! The device manager Guy was did not care about the situation and did nothing to resolve it. Store manager Walter exact words were I dont care what is going on in the service department, it is not my responsibility. Three customers walked out because of such horrible service. Spend your money at better service place.

My experience at PepBoys was horrible. When we dropped my car off for an oil change, the employee acted like we didn’t have an appointment. We showed him proof that we had an appointment and he still tried to act like we didn’t. He complained and asked us to come back the next day instead. We told him this was impossible due to my work schedule and he finally agreed to take the car, but he was annoyed about it. Then, when the employee called me at 8:45 to tell me my car was ready, he gave me attitude and said that I’d better get there by 9:00 or I couldn’t get my car, and he kept asking when we were leaving to pick it up, and I told him we would leave shortly to arrive by 9:00. Then, when we went to pick my car up, all of the settings in my car were erased. My radio presets, seat position presets, side mirror presets, lighting presets, door lock presets, screen presets, and even my volume EQ presets were ALL ERASED. My whole car was erased to factory default settings. I think the employee did this on purpose because I’ve had several oil changes and I have never had all my settings erased and reset. I think it was done out of spite because we made them DO THEIR JOBS. This entire experience was terrible and we won’t be going back. They just lost several lifetime customers.

This visit was the 1st time ever (since I was a kid) that I couldnt find an accessory I wanted for my car at a Pep Boys Store. Im hoping it was just a fluke, but looking around it seemed they may have reduced inventory a bit. Anyway, Im not giving up on them yet and will visit again when one of my cars needs attention.

Needed tires. Dropped the car off at 9am. Told itll be ready at 2pm. I called at 3pm, and Im told itll be another hour and a half. (430pm) I show up at 445pm, still not done. While sitting there, I hear them apologize to every other customer for something that went wrong. Finally guy hands me the bill at 550pm, (they close at 6pm) I asked him why it took so long, and he says that guy over there will ring you up and runs into the garage. Customer service is non-existent. Never ever again.

They mounted winter tires and rims but did not install the sensors, had to go back. Then two months later I take car to a dealership and they find pep boys mounted one of my tires on backwards, cost $35 to get that corrected. No reason to go back here at this point.

Was a little skeptical with the horror stories heard people using this franchise in the area. Needed a set of tires on wifes SUV for the upcoming weekend trip, found online with a good deal and can be done same day. Ordered online, dropped off the car. Was told it will take ~1 hr to complete, got phone call ~2 hrs later that it was done and ready to pickup. Showed up in the store, paid for the service, and drove away. The transaction went flawlessly. The only improvement I can think of is the service desk is a little overwhelmed can use a little help to get people less confused when walked in.

Their service department seems happy to advice on unneeded work to make extra money. They wanted to do brakes on the car which was subsequently checked by dealership. The dealer found breaks in good working order.Their shopping area often times misses popular items/sizes/promotions so it is always hit or miss. The store on US1South is much better run.

Will not be coming again. Had an appointment for an oil change and I sat waiting around for THREE HOURS. they told me an oil change takes 30 min and they lied about rotating my tires because they’re lazy. I marked my tires to make sure they rotated them and it wasn’t done. $80 for a waste of 3 hours of my time. Thank you

Got a nail in my tire and went here for what i thought would be a quick plug. After waiting over an hour, I was told they cant plug the tire because the nail was too close to the sidewall. I saw where the nail was, and it was nowhere near the sidewall. I felt the techs at pep boys were being very dishonest about the location of the nail and were trying to get me to unnecessarily buy a new tire. After insisting they cant plug it, I told them i would take my car somewhere else...which I did. The other auto place fixed it in 10 minutes, no questions asked. I wish I never wasted my time at pep boys and definitely will never be returning.

2 hours for an oil change is ridiculous and before that I waited 3 hours for new brake pads. I could have watched a DIY video & had it done sooner!!Besides that, the service staff is friendly & somewhat informative constantly trying to get an upsell opportunity but thats expected. The store associates were too relaxed & spent more time socializing instead of working.Ive been here twice and dont plan on going ever again!
