This place was a lifesaver. We were on our way home toward the tail end of a travel-heavy day and were exhausted and thirsty. The Oak House won our business by virtue of being open and slinging caffeine, and it won our praise by doing so well. Nutella lattes were among the seasonal coffee offerings, and they were smooth, refreshing, and delicious.Beyond that, The Oak House is nicely appointed. The woodwork and chalkboard drink lists add old-fashioned charm. While we only glanced at the latter, the selection seemed plentiful. The bar-coffee shop combination doesn’t always work (one sometimes suffers for the sake of the other), but The Oak House certainly seemed to have its act together.
Fantastic latte, the baked goods were good, the place was solid. Would I tell you to go out of your way to go to this place, probably not but it was an amazing place, coffee was the best I’ve had in a while and the atmosphere was very nice. There’s a nice comfy couch where there’s a chess/checkers/Backgammon board under the coffee table and I played with that during study breaks. The beer looked good and a few seemed to be ‘regulars’ coming in to grab one so. Try it out if you want beer or coffee.
Good coffee and average croissants. Dropped by to get their drip coffee and chocolate croissant. The croissant was crispy on the outside but I didnt like how all the chocolate (relatively small amount compared to the size of the croissant) were at the bottom instead of being evenly spread out. Coffee was nice but not spectacular. This place does have a cozy atmosphere and interior that is great for work/study, but maybe not an ideal spot for a quick bite of some coffee and croissant.
I recently moved to Durham from Brooklyn, New York.Chill coffee shop by day, lively bar by night - The Oak House has become my home away from home. I spend so much time here its crazy. All of the staff are super friendly and engaging - Ive made friends with all of them!Did I mention that this place serves coffee AND alcohol???? All of their coffees and lattes are superb, and they have a wide selection of beer, wine and whiskey! The snacks and pastries are also yummy! I highly recommend The Oak House to anyone :)
Always a great place for coffee or a beer (or whiskey/wine for that matter). Cozy atmosphere that has rotating art thats normally cool. All the people working there have been nothing short of fantastic to chat with, and are knowledgeable about all the different products they have and then some
Good coffee, our hot chocolate was cold, but the staff came in quickly and fixed it.
Mack and Lauren Dalton and Maylynn made the Oak House so fun. It’s like hump day and it feels like a Friday. They were amazing and introduced us to wines that were fantastic!! Put Oak House Durham on your to do list you want be disappointed
Best place in town. Great selection of coffee, tea, beer and whiskey to meet your needs at any time in the day. The staff is super awesome and makes you feel at home. They make an extra effort to learn what you like to drink at each time of the day and are attentive. The staff has really made this an environment where anyone feels like a regular and valued. I highly recommend
Disappointing. Grabbed an Americano here. Not great coffee (sub-Starbucks). Inside tables could be kept significantly more clean. A little out of sorts trying to find a comfy spot to sit. Stools to the right of the door when you walk in are each somehow boobytrapped (precariously loose seat, one leg shorter than others.. I stopped after 2). I didn’t have alcohol because it’s 11:30 AM, so I can’t speak to the other beverage elements. Maybe it’s better in the evenings?
Was met with a lively experience from a vinal DJ named Chris. Enjoyed a delicious iced coffee from the girls behind the counter. Sweetened perfectly with Splenda and mocha flavoring. A bit crowded but hey, thats what you get when you do good honest work.
The service is really great and The barista makes GREAT lattes and macchiatos. There are a ton of bakerys in the area but this is the only one with sublime coffee.
Nice place with good vibes! Ive only been a handful of times, post-covid and every time Im there the employees are wearing masks and will help make you as comfortable as possible.Usually I order a chai latte. The first time I got it hot, which was great. The second time I got it iced, but the chai flavor wasnt as strong as I wouldve liked it. The third time I ordered an iced chai, the barista but A LOT of cinnamon in there, to where I was drinking chunks of cinnamon. Unfortunately the chai flavor wasnt very present in this drink either and none of the other times did I have cinnamon added to the drink. If theres no whip, I dont see cinnamon being a good idea. This wont stop me from coming here and I love that theres a coffee shop downtown, but I may need to start ordering coffee instead of chai. 😅
Fantastic coffee! The selection of whiskey, beer, and wine is superb. The customer service is incredible! 5/5 stars!
We went to a wine and paint event and had a blast! The staff there was super friendly and accommodating. Tyler was really patient with me as he helped me pick out a beer that I ended up really enjoying. Looking forward to next time! Thank you!
This is one of my favorite spots in Durham! Its a great spot to study in the mornings and afternoons; the coffee, service, and overall relaxed atmosphere is outstanding.Make sure to come back in the evenings to try their amazing beer and whisk(e)y selections. There is a solid crowd of regulars and its a great vibe if you are looking to relax and have a drink.
Love this place. So chill, decent tap list, solid coffee
My second home! The Oak House is my haven for everything fun, studious, and happy. The staff is incredibly welcoming, warm, and humorous. Not only do they make a killer tea latte, but they have a great variety of beers on tap and a wide selection of wine to choose from. Swing by for Tuesday musical evenings or fun Thursday trivia nights.
I loved that this place was in walking distance of my house and opens early. This week they stopped having their employees wear masks as of Wednesday 6/2/21. I get it, its not required by law but I live in Durham for a reason, not Florida. 43% of NC is fully vaxxed as of today. I work at Duke and the least you could do is have your employees wear a mask indoors. I asked the barista what about kids whom we do not have a vaccine for or those who are unable to get vaccinated due to medical issues. Shame on you. Ill walk to cocoa cinnamon where the coffee is better and they respect our fellow humanity. Where you choose to put $ money matters, go somewhere else Durham!
I recently attended an event (Paint and Sip) at The Oak House. It was my first time ever going to a sip and paint, it was also my first time at The Oak House. Tyler, Dr. Mac and the rest of the staff were fantastic. They were all very prompt with anything we needed. The wine and beer selection was great, and my mocha was perfecto. This will definitely become something us girls do much more frequently. Would highly recommend stopping in to see this crew and getting a drink. Don’t forget to ask for Dr. Mac...Lol!!
Outstanding servers! Great selection of beer and whiskey and the coffee smells amazing too!
Great wine and coffee selection. The employees make you feel very welcomed! Always have great suggestions. Would definitely recommend this place. Great location and atmosphere.
Several of us attended a Paint and Sip event at the Oak House. We had a great time. The service was prompt and the staff was very friendly. We will definitely return.
Great coffee and pastries. They even offer to warm your croissant for you which was a pleasant surprise!
Great atmosphere and friendly service and of course great coffee. You can also grab a pastry or if the mood takes you some Whiskey or Wine. If your looking for a take out theres lots of local beer to take away
Chill atmosphere and great bartenders (especially Mack!) who are willing to play chess with you during their downtime. Highly recommend!
This place is amazing! Such a warm, welcoming environment. Great place to study and hang out with friends. One of my favorite places in Durham!
If I were to open a cafe it would be just like this. Great coffee, tons of beer taps, retail, lots of space to linger … if I lived here I would be a regular for sure.
Love this place!! Their oat milk lattes are the best. Really great space with community events in person and online. A Durham staple!!
My friends brought me here today to do homework and hang out, and the atmosphere is so great! Love the drink options and that they are covid safe :)
Best place to visit for coffee, tea, and alcoholic needs. Oak House has the most welcoming staff in town, and they always brighten my day.
Classy coffee shop vibes with great seating. The baristas are friendly and know what they are doing.Check it out in the evening for ample beer, wine, and whiskey selections - theres something for everyone.A downtown staple!
Great place for a coffee or a beer!
Great local spot to hang out at any hour of the day. The staff is always friendly and this place has one of the best bourbon selections I have seen in this town.
They hit all the needed check marks to be a trendy coffee shop and beer store. But it is all done with such corporate strerility, that is is just another bland, over priced cup of brew.
Awesome experience! By far my favorite coffee shop in Durham! Great atmosphere and you can get either a coffee or a glass of wine and both would be great!
Stylish and cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and pastries looked good though I didn’t not try them. Latte was just decent for price.
This place is golden. Any time, for any occasion.
Went here for the first time a week or so ago. The coffee was delicious! One of the staff members took the time to tell me about the specific roast I had and shared some insight on the different brewing methods for different styles of coffee. She also poured my coffee into a to-go cup for me and informed me of the specials they had throughout the week. Overall, this place had wonderful coffee, staff, and atmosphere. Oh, and I’m pumped to come back and have a drink, because they have a nice selection and fun deals!
Great spot in downtown Durham. I like it here because there is an option that satisfies every person in any mood: coffee, tea, wine, beer, whiskey, etc. Also, love the comfy couch and spot to play games or just read a book. Live music on Fridays is a great addition! Baked goods havent impressed me there, but everything else is 10/10!
Great coffee and a fun atmosphere. Ive never met a nicer bunch of staff.
Super dope coffee and whiskeys bourbons and beers, I will be coming here regularly.
Love this place. The food is always delicious and innovative. Friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere.
Great spot for a drink. They have a good seating area as well as a bar for a larger group. They had a few board games to play. Interesting all serve coffee till late. Recommend checking out this spot
The coffee and tea are both amazing. Only thing I would want is for their tea pots to be something that actually stays warm. Serves several cups of tea but the pot doesnt stay much hotter than a poured cup
Great staff, great service, great drinks.
Kicked me out because I didnt buy enough. Limited offerings. Spotty internet. Wont be going back.
Trying to book this place as a venue next week for a classical performance with my colleagues from grad school. This place has a great vibe for it and their coffee is amazing. The exchange I had with one of the employees was positive as well. Professional. Handed them my card with our info, but they have not reached out to me to let me know whether or not we can perform there. Will update my review once Ive heard from them. Hopefully the exchange is positive as well.*Update: The Oak House got back to me and I greatly appreciate their response! I look forward to performing at this amazing place in the future.
Great experience during the New Year’s Eve.
Cool spot for a beverage anytime of day. We stopped by in the evening and had excellent service from Tyler who listened to our usual beer and wine choices and offered each of our party of 4 a choice that matched our tastes. The atmosphere is perfect for coffee in the morning, an afternoon break or a beer/wine before or after dinner.Cool little spot that you should check out.
We were in for a quick afternoon drink. Very cool and classy atmosphere. Great wine list and lots of fun craft brews on tap. Amazing location in downtown Durham. Well worth checking out!
This is a really neat place. Its a coffee shop with a wide variety of coffee choices (pour over, cold brew, espresso, etc), but its also a bottle shop with a fair selection of beers and an excellent selection of wine. The atmosphere is more coffee-shop esque. Lots of wood styling, fairly quiet, with lots of small tables for doing work... But they also have a bar where you can sit and enjoy a more typical bar setting. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable as well! Well definitely be back.
We stopped by here for a quick bite and a drink before a show at DPAC, easily within walking distance. Its a warm and inviting space while holding true to Durhams industrial feel. Great beer selection and specials, and Ill certainly be back to try some of the features whiskeys. An instant favorite that well be back to visit every time were nearby.
Oak house is a great downtown addition! In house, fresh roasted coffee, a wide variety of seasonal lattes, and when youre ready for more variety, theres craft beer, expertly picked wine (from an in house sommelier), and a great selection of whiskey. Theres something for everyone!!
Great place good vibes
Nice new spot in the heart of downtown. Good decor and customer service. My friend asked for a smaller size that wasnt on the menu and the cashier gave it to her along with a discount for the smaller size. Ill be coming back!
Awesome place to chill and drink great beers
Rustic farmhouse/industrial atmosphere specializing in coffee and wine. Also offers a good beer variety with at least 10 draft beer taps (most $6) in addition to can/bottle varieties. The spacious location, excellent service, and daily specials entice me to return often.
Tasty coffee and pastires. Relaxed atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. Nice offering of work and meeting spaces.
Very good higher-end and well-prepared coffee in spacious setting to relax or get some work done. Or, put the work aside and enjoy beer and wine from the bar. Good selection of craft beer.
Great vibes here :) Good coffee, daily drink specials, a run club, open mic nights. One of my favorite newer spots in Durham.
Another great new spot in Durham trying to get it just right. A warm cozy feeling with people sprinkled about reading working on laptops or just having a drink with friends this trendy spot is up and coming.
Great vibe! Good deals every day, friendly staff and theyre cool with bringing in outside food. Wifi seems pretty reliable too which never hurts!
With a solid selection of wine and sixteen taps of craft beer in addition to great coffee and teas, you’re all set to enjoy a drink of your choice with friends or colleagues. This morning coffee; this past Wednesday a wrapped sandwich from their cooler and a beer! Friendly and well-informed staff. Check it out!
Awesome location and great vibe! One small little suggestion (this is in the nicest way possible): The Cold Brew was on the light side. Maybe it was just the batch I had? Boost that bean to water ratio fam!
My favorite cafe in Durham. Great space and selection. The people are cool and the place somehow gets better every time I go back!
Neat coffee & wine bar. Super sleek interiors will make you feel right at home. Cozy.
The iced caramel macchiato... Great service... Period 🙂
Really great place located centrally with a really chill vibe. Extensive selection of coffee, beer, and wine. Plus, they let you bring your own food!
I like the atmosphere(quiet enough to study but loud enough to have a conversation without strangers hearing everything).. one of the best cup of iced coffee I ever tasted!
Lovely service, fair prices, and friendly staff in a comfortable environment. Plus a solid music playlist. Ill be back!
Absolutely amazing! I literally dont have enough words to describe how wonderful an experience this was.
This trendy establishment is a great place to share ideas over your favorite caffeinated beverage. This atmosphere is very conducive of productivity and business meetings.
It can het pretty packed but great coffee.
Great wine and awesome atmosphere!
Im watching one barista ignore me for her friends while the other does all the work. Scone was cold but tasty. Americano not bad.
Nice staff and wide selection of drinks
Very friendly staff, great coffee, great beer selection, and I think they just added whiskey? Chill vibe too!
Courteous, invested staff. Great coffee. Wide whiskey selection
Downtown Durham (proper) has needed a good coffee spot with early morning/late night hours, and Oak House has impressed me on each visit with polite staff, open seating, and a surprisingly great beer selection.
Great local coffee shop/bar. Ill definitely be back.
