This is a very cramped little coffee shop, but it has a nice atmosphere and a cool two story layout. They had a couple specialty coffees options to mix it up. The coffee itself is of good quality, and is made without unnecessary flourish (such as art in the foam).I was able to sit upstairs find a nice table near one of the many outlets and work for a couple hours. The music was a little louder than Id like; but, the music wasnt to the point where people could hear it when I was talking to them on the phone.
Okay, as far as coffee goes, it didnt blow me out of the water. But, for someone from out of town who wanted a nice coffee experience, this was fun.Thing is, you gotta go upstairs. It looks like some retro replication of a coffee house designed in the 40-50s of what a futuristic coffee shop would be. Lots of glass and good for people watching. Although, I found that there are very few people in Detroit, so you may only see a few. I recommend hopping down to the DJ booth area and pretend to fly the coffee shop. I did it.
Fantastic Mexican hot chocolate is very very good staff friendly and made some good recommendations snacks were delicious and the scenery was really nice great balcony to sit on as well as a nice place to sit outside be sure to visit this next time you’re looking for a coffee or a drink in downtown Detroit
I always love stopping in at Urban Bean Co. One of the longest standing coffee shops in Detroit that helps out and supports the local community. The second floor has a unique feeling from any of the other shops in the area. Usually a quite place to work or a great place to people watch. Definitely a gem in the heart of Detroit.
Great little spot in the city. Awesome music and great coffee. The service is some of the best around. The only thing I dont like is the place is freezing. We live in Michigan. Turn up the heat! Other than that, great coffee shop.
I came in to escape the rain and sit up high and watch the city slowly go by (its New Years eve). The staff was super friendly and helpful. I got good string coffee and enjoyed my time here.
Wow. I ordered the Pure Evil Latte with low expectations. It was supposed to be cherry, amaretto, coffee and milk. I hoped it would be good but havent seen another place successfully pull off balancing the flavor. I was really pleasantly surprised - the latte was delicious, fragrant and served in a homey mug. We hung out for several hours people watching and listening to music. Great spot. Only compliant is that it is pretty old so the carpet/some of the chairs are in rough shape.
The green fairy latte is very nice. Service is tranquil and competent. Bathroom is grotesque and structurally beyond properly cleaning without renovation, only the owners fault not the staff. A few stools at a counter. Some reading material, pastries, energy bars, and a tea selection serve as decorations amongst the random signs and art. It is more of a quick stop place but I think there may be upstairs seating, I dont think its handicap accessable. In fact, if you are wheelchair bound or have a stroller this cafe is going to be a real difficult place to be accommodated.
This is a very affordable coffee shop as compared to other shops in Detroit. Location wise, a literal hole in the wall. Its a small shop that is connected to a parking structure. Because of this, they do not have a designated lot and finding reasonable street side parking can be a pain. However, they have a unique coffee menu (I liked the green faire latte) which was very attractive to me. Music can be loud so not necessarily the best spot if you are looking for a peaceful place. Great view though on the second floor though! Not many food options, just a few pastry options that they get from Avalon bakery.
Hip. A small and friendly cafe that is not a newcomer to the hip heart of Detroit. Great coffee, a small selection of breads and pastries and a quiet space to enjoy them in. There is an upper level that you have to be a little lucky to nab a spot in, but every seat has a nice view.
This is absolutely my favorite place for coffee downtown. It has a lovely atmosphere, good lattes, nice staff, and jaw-dropping interior. This place is unique and has more character to it than all of the modernized, expensive coffee shops popping up around it. Theyve been around longer than all the new places. Ive always gone to it for coffee when Im downtown, and always will!
Tight but cozy space nestled into the edge of a building. The orange color theme is fun. The coffee is pretty good.
Just remodeled, check it out!
Found this hip little spot while attending the Thanksgiving Day Parade. I loved the environment, friendly staff and customers too. Fantastic coffees, donuts, and hit chocolate.
Cute place. The upstairs is a secluded retro oasis. A birds nest view of the city and all of the people walking by. Quiet, nice place to read. Coffee is good, staff is exceptional.
I visited here with two of my friends and I think I might have found my new favorite cafe. Granted, its quite small and a little tight but its a really chill place to be in when you need a quiet moment for yourself and to get a little pick me up. I highly recommend getting the cafe mocha!

This isn’t retro it’s literally unchanged since the 60s or 70s when it was built. Great vibe. The brew I got was excellent. Loved it💕💕💕
I dont understand this place, they claim to be ALL Inclusive! But when someone that is not a regular walks in the people behind the counter always have funny looks for you.Tried to support local and skipping the Starbucks... But this place obviously doesnt support the locale !
Excellent roasts and beverage crafting. Fairie Latte is amazing. Great space welcoming to all types and friendly knowledgeable baristas

So cute and cozy. Love the retro kind of feel and city window views! Plus the drinks are tasty!
Super unique coffee shop, friendly staff, cool evening events sometimes. If youre looking to stop in the middle of your day for a coffee and relax, or if you want to take some neat photos for your modeling Instagram account, this is the place to go
Excellent location between Campus Martius and Grand Circus, with an iconic building and unique interior seating. The floor-to-ceiling windows give the experience of being large, despite the small square footage, and the drinks/snacks are beyond delicious! I had the Pure Evil Latte and it was excellent! I cannot wait to return and try even more treats!
This is a unique quirky locally-owned Detroit coffee shop that came to Capitol Park before the recent revitalization. Its a good place for working on a laptop or for a meeting, though the music might be a bit distracting. Its easy to bike or walk to, and if you have a car, its not too difficult finding on street parking especially on nearby Washington Boulevard.
Techno coffee shop?! Review writes itself. Very clean, comfortable, great vibe, great music, and the coffee is excellent. Not much more to say. One down side is that it is very small. Every time I go there seating is very limited. Other than that I always love coming in here
Great location, music, staff, and coffee. The shop is open late too, which is unique because its the only other coffee shop open at night besides Desert Oasis. My only critique is that they might want to invest in sticking incense in the bathroom, because its a really small building, and to have curtains upstairs thatll block out the street lights when they turn on. Other than that, if youre coming to Detroit or a student looking for a place to study, this is the place!
I love the Urban Bean! Im not a coffee drinker but they have a good selection of teas & I really like their chai. More than anything I love the atmosphere. The place just has a good feeling.
Really funky cool little cafe near everything downtown. I had a cafe mocha and it was very good, people were lovely.
Wanted to try this place out, it’s super cute. The brunette male employee was immediately annoyed that we were there interrupting him while he was eating, which is whatever, but when I tried to pay with a 20 for a latte, he got angry and asked if I had anything smaller “it’s only $4” and I said no sorry, I’m not from the area so I only brought a 20 out with me. He asked “well can you pay with a card?” I said no sorry, he was angrily checking the tip jar for change, gave me my change without the coins but I didn’t say anything. He gave me my drink without the top on all the way, watched me spill it and didn’t say anything until I asked for napkins. Was super rude to the people after us too! Super unnecessary
Not only is this place gorgous — the staffers are lovely and are very fashionable. I love the decor and atmosphere. I’d probably go more often if parking wasn’t such a pain.
Had a blast. Brunch techno. What more do you need. Meet new friendly faces. Good times
Great coffee for Mom and Dad and cocoa for the little ones. Very good at reasonable prices. It’s a must stop when we are downtown. We would love a place like this closer to home.
Cool spot! Loved the atmosphere--perfect for a relaxing afternoon spent reading. Good prices, bold brews.
Vibe is a bit confusing inside, especially with a name like Urban Bean. Kinda feels like youre entering someones home trailer haha. But I liked the coffee :). Not very good for groups of more than 3.
Real good coffee guess I am of touch though 10 buck 3 medium black coffees seems a tad much but Ill probably be back in the am

Urban Bean is a great place for meeting someone downtown for coffee/tea. I often schedule meetings here. Their drinks are delicious and always have scrumptious pastries and other snacks. Go upstairs, enjoy your coffee and meeting.
I was very excited to try this newly reopened coffee shop after reading up on it on a local blog. The cozy shop surpassed my expectations. The building itself is tucked on a street corner in downtown Detroit, and the location makes it all the more exciting. The baristas were very nice, and were glad to help with the menu. Most importantly, the coffee was excellent! My new favorite coffee shop!! I look forward to returning soon.
The coffee is very good, the staff is helpful, fast and friendly. The building is a cool mid-century design. Seating is tight, with a window counter at street level and tables upstairs. Located at the north end of Capitol Park, where new places seem to open every month, and a block or so from the new Beacon Park.
I went for the music on the second floor which was awesome. The employee behind the counter was helpful and friendly.
Great coffee great price. Super laid back, cool upstairs lounge area you can sip on some tea n look through the glass walls at the busy streets. Super cozy, very cool..Also offers granola bowls, breakfast burritos, doughnuts along with a little variety of fruit,
2nd experience in a row my order was wrong. Staff doesn’t put much care into service consistently and they badly need to clean the stairs.
Quaint, relaxed, nice place to visit with a friend & have a hot coffee or tea
Great little spot to listen to some music, grab a quick coffee or pop, and get online. Nice upstairs with plenty of small tables.Would love to see a bike rack, but theres not really any room. Theres a fence next door you can lock up to, or theres a street light right out front.
Locals spot, good music most of the time, staff are minimal in their interactions and niceties, great coffee, and nice views. Good People watching.
Cool place. Could be cleaner. It’s in a great spot and has a lot of potential if they just remodeled and cleaned up.
Female who works here is less than friendly on the phone and in person. She said that she been working here all day. Maybe they should give her shorter shifts. The view is tarnished b/c its surrounded by construction. Could use a little jazz playing in the backyard. It could be the time of the day, but its dead and all you hear is the construction across the street. Bring your ear phones! ☺
Had some delicious hot tea and the Barista was so nice!
A little hidden DiamondGreat getawayService excellent and very nice
Wasnt bad but wasnt great. The shop was crowded even though i was the only one in there. The best thing here is the Jam Bar desserts. They are a lil expensive but are definitely worth it to me. They seem very natural and fresh. The blue-haired girl speaks in whispers. Her voice feels like the soft touch of a Lebanese womans hand on your chest as it soothes your eardrums. The coffee was basic.
This place was fantastic. Great selection of coffee, espressos, lattes, etc... Everything reasonably-priced. You come here for the super-cool, hipster ambience though!
I mean what’s not to love really. It’s my favorite coffee shop in Detroit. My only request is that you guys get whip cream! :)
Really cool spot to grab a coffee and a donut. Great selection of some specialty stuff and they cover their base with the standards at a coffee shop.
Techno Tuesday offered a chill and intimate first glance at Detroits vibrant and still thriving techno scene. Great pleasure to witness this first hand and many thanks to Rebecca Goldberg
If you work remotely and want a spot to hang out for the day, this is a great choice.
I have the Mexican Hot chocolate which had coconut, banana, and chocolate.WUT.If the description hasnt already convinced you, then dang. You must not know how to read. It was so good.Environment is really chill. The two levels are great! Theres this nook upstairs thats great for concentrating. Its awesome to have a nice place to chill, and the folks working over there seem to know what theyre doing with coffee and stuff.I mean, theres free and FAST wifi, so what else can you ask for?
Great retro feel. Got a mocha and it tasted great. Not sugary sweet like many places.
Soooo cute inside, but the worker (wearing sunglasses) was rude, short, and unhelpful. A rude worker can hurt an experience!
The barista was very cold to me but when another customer arrived, he was very pleasant to her.
The coffee is great and the locale is neat. Definitely a must-visit place if you are in downtown Detroit!
Awesome coffee, good ppl, gotta try
Always delicious, and great music if youre there when DJs play upstairs!
Staff wasn’t pushing options you don’t need if you explain your need for good coffee.
Friendly staff and cool atmosphere. Coffee was ok and the place was a little dirty.
Awesome staff, good not too expensive coffee and a wild 70s interior.
Fantastic coffee, try the Evil Latte. They have live Techno music every Tuesday from 6-10pm. A unique atmosphere to enjoy your coffee in, head upstairs and overlook the street through an all glass wall with some pop art hanging on the walls. They also have rocket fiber so you get gigabit Internet speeds.
Coffee place thats been here long before it was as cool to be here. Great coffee!
Live this place! Great coffee!Nothing stops Detroit!!!
I like this place much more than Rural Bean Co., as controversial as that statement may be, Im putting everything on the line for this place. Bring your lawyers. Bring your sellswords. Ive got three of your assassins tied up to my stationary bicycle as we speak. Everytime I ride, I listen to their screams agony to fuel my energy. Go me. Go Urban Bean Co. Boo assassins. Boo liable. Boo slander. Im telling the truth. I never lie. Jesus always watches. He is my owner. He will spank me if Im not good. He really likes Urban Bean Co. and so do I. Bye!!
Excellent service decent prices great coffee and tea.
The barwoman was really polite and helpful! The coffee really good.
I really liked the atmosphere it was retro and just really cozy. Would recommend for literally anyone of all ages.
Cool use of space, low ceiling, theres a upstairs seating area, or a quick serve counter on the ground floor.Good coffee, has a good local scene to if.
Great coffee, view, ambient, and light. However, it is a bit small and the second floor could really, really, really use some restoration for carpet, chairs, and tables.
I love it. I really like the throwback feeling
Simple little coffee shop in a great building downtown. Any spot gives you an excellent view of the corner and Capitol Park. Never too crowded either.
Great coffee, friendly service, oodles of charm, and great music 😍
Nice friendly staff! Staff also helps educate people about the various types of coffee
Techno Tuesday nights, A sweet, 60’s decor and great views of capital park make this my go to coffee place.
Nice quiet place to go with your laptop 👍
Unique brew concoctions in Downtown Detroit. Small corner location, but a quaint and unique space to sit in quiet in the busy City.
My goto place for a cup of Joe. Menu is simple, beans are flavorful, brew is strong. I personally like the Cubano. Enjoy!
Super cute cafe, wonderful mid century modern decor
Amazing coffee and a nice place to just relax a bit before heading around the city.
I love this little coffee place. The best drink is called Pure Evil. Get it. You wont be disappointed.
They have the best customer service. Grace was awesome.
Offer great music and drinks. This is an authentic Detroit experience.
