Seriously??… Great Lakes coffee roasting in the TCF Center. Here we are at the Detroit free press marathon… And there are literally hundreds of people in line for a coffee. They have only one person running the cash register and one person making coffee at one of the biggest public events in Detroit. Unbelievable?? Who is managing this company?
Delicious fresh roasted coffee in the city, supporting local tastes and feels better than buying chain coffee
This place never disappoints. They make all of their syrups in house and even serve alcohol. Atmosphere and drink options 10/10
Always a good time and the staff are all sweet. I love how welcoming the vibe is and the Great Lakes coffee blends you can get on site that arent in the stores. I especially love the Lavender Latte so good.
Just what I needed while traveling. Laid back environment and good food. Lots of working area. Baristas were super helpful and knowledgeable. I got peanut butter toast with blueberries, honey and sprinkled cinnamon. Heavenly!
Still my #1 coffee shop in Detroit. They have the absolute best baristas you will ever meet, everything is made perfect and timely. Place is a gem and Vicky is amazing!
Great coffee and excellent service. The baristas were all super friendly and helpful. Their cafe miel and cold brew were delicious :)
Stopped in recently for the first time and will be back here, too often.Grabbed a specialty toast, a version of caprese and enjoyed it very much. Had a great iced drink at the recommendation of the barista and took home a bag of this awesome holiday roast.Cant wait to go pack post Covid for an Friday of caffeine transitioning to a cold beer from the bar!
Love the atmosphere at this coffee shop. Great unique drinks and definitely try the lavender latte when you go.
Hands down best chai I’ve ever had! Loved the pinch of spice - maybe cayenne or something? And a good dose of cinnamon. Staff was really nice also.
Not a coffee drinker so I cant speak to the drinks, but the Cucumber Feta Toast is SO good. Visiting from out of state and will definitely be popping back in before I leave so I can have one last piece.
Stopped in for the very first time with my fiance, who was excited to show me the place. The atmosphere is nicely decorated and maintains all the trappings of a hipster third-wave cafe. We ordered coffee and food from one barista and waited for a good ten minutes before realizing that nothing had come out for us besides my fiances coffee (which was a quick nitro pour and handoff shortly after paying). Another barista noticed us waiting and asked what I had ordered: I told her, she seemed to be on her way to grab it but still nothing for a few more minutes. A third barista started making coffees, probably to start taking care of the crowd that had formed waiting for their items. Behind him, the first barista checked text messages on her phone between setting up glasses for more drinks. We were on a time crunch and at this point had waited for about 25 minutes for my latte and for two to-go orders of food. I soon learned that another woman waiting on multiple coffees had accidentally taken my latte, so we awkwardly laughed that off in front of the barista who had screwed it up -- he was busy chatting with a different customer. In fact, a duplicate of my order came out a second after this with no attempt to communicate what had happened. After waiting even longer for the food we asked how long it would be for the to-go orders and were told that about 7 table orders were ahead of our to-go orders (!!!) and did no one tell us that it would be a 20 minute wait?! We were floored. Maybe it was a bad/super busy day for everyone -- I can empathize with that -- but it seemed adequately staffed for the demand. Better communication wouldve been great as we ended up 30 minutes late to an important family meet-up. Not sure I would trust going here unless you have nothing to do all day.
Alright drinks.Would love some :-decaffeinated options.-Syrup options (outside of simple syrup/sugar) for drinks- AND SOME PLUGS/OUTLETS
Love this place but I really miss the later hours! Used to be the only place to get a good cup of coffee in Detroit after 8pm.
Pretty bad espresso. Nice atmosphere, friendly employees, etc... yet the espresso was pretty bad
The drinks here are fantastic and not just the coffee. Im talking their So Fresh, So Green cocktail, and the Final Ward being among my favorites. This place has great flexibility from a great studying spot during the day to a cozy date night in the evenings. Its also within walking distance to the DSO, museums and music venues.
I looove their spicy mocha, hot and cold! They sometimes have a lemon or cheese danish...the yeast bread is to die for!
Great Lakes is a fantastic spot for a rich pour over coffee, small plates, as well as beer and wine. There are always students studying here and professionals holding meetings. It’s a warm space with the hardwood floors and exposed brick. People are often using their laptops and there are quite a few wall outlets available if you plan on staying long.
I love the atmosphere! The avocado toast and chai latte are my favorite. Only con is the chairs are so uncomfortable.
Awesome shop with such a cool vibe. It was my first visit and was recommend the lavender latte, amazing suggestion! Friendly staff that makes you feel like your family even on the first visit! Highly recommend this coffee shop.
The first time I went was after getting an MRI across the street at the hospital and I wanted to go to one of the fancy coffee shops to treat myself, and oh my was it a treat! I got an iced mocha and a ham and cheese croissant and they were both absolutely delicious! That day started my obsession with trying to find the best ham and cheese croissants I can find and they are still in the top two! I absolutely LOVE espresso and theirs is top notch. They also carry their coffee and espresso at bread by crispellis so whenever I go there I absolutely have to get either an iced or hot mocha. Just so smooth and fresh and just, YUM!! 😋
Nice looking but its my 5th time finding that although though the web page says open but I differ its always unattended.
They were crazy busy! But the staff was awesome on the delayed wait for my takeout order. Great food and drinks!
Comfortable eclectic coffee shop located in the heart of the Detroit Medical Center complex. Try the cold Macha.
One of my tip coffee spots in the City.I love riding my bike to grab a cup of joe.
Very good coffee and food. Great for studying. Definitely a must try in the area.
First time coming here today. Love the location, warm and cozy, probably because of the interior. They didnt have my favorite drink white chocolate mocha (which is why I gave them 4/5 stars because thats a little unusual), so I got a dark chocolate one instead. The barista was super friendly, she took time describing what some of the other options are and didnt rush me even though there were a few customers coming in at that time. Really professional. The drink came out quite good. Definitely will come back.
Delicious chai latte and energetic staff
I havent actually been inside yet. Seems like a nice place. But if you:1) Download the Nearbee App (by Mobstac),2) Make sure Bluetooth & Location are on3) Stand near the entrance or on the corner...Check your phone for secret prizes & discounts from nearby businesses!
Best in Detroit. Good coffee and food, and awesome work crew
I live pretty close to this shop and theyve been amazing from the first moment ive tried them out. Throughout the pandemic, theyve been one of the most consistent spots to go to and i truly appreciate that. A rock-star team and will continue having my support! They also have amazing shirts/ hoodies that are pretty damn cool & comfy :)
Came here to get my Voting Day Detroit buisness crawl started, what better way than a cup of coffee and yes Baileys Irish Cream! (They have a liquor license, yes Gawd!) They offer a few different types of coffees at all times, a good lunch, light dinner menu but most of all an awesome laid back WiFi access atmosphere, which I love!
Fast service and delicious coffee is what you can expect when you come to Great Lakes Coffee. I stopped in there for an interview with a magazine editor and had a very enjoyable time.Great Lakes Coffee is a nice quiet atmosphere, even though the place was packed. The seats and stools are comfortable which let you enjoy your coffee even more. They have your standard fare coffee or espresso or latte and they also have some more specialized items to make a very unique experience. Not only do they have coffee but they also have sandwiches and other food items.
A great meeting place in Detroits Midtown.Pure Detroit, not the Cookie cutter Chains you can also find in Detroit...
Food was great, and they have a bar and outside seating.
Great place to sit and talk. The internet connection is very slow, which makes work hard.
This is one of my favorite coffee and hang out place great coffee, food and ambiance. Not to mentioned the great stuff too
Something green was floating in my drink 🤢I realized after I left and I was halfway through my drink. Im hoping it was just spinach.
One of the coolest atmospheres to get coffee or do homework in Detroit for sure - love the lavender latte and the friendly staff who always have great recommendations 👍☕️
Coffee was great. The food took awhile. But expectations were set by the cashier. Love the atmosphere.
Delicious latte creations, great atmosphere, nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating options.
Good customer service, a little pricey, decent variety & chill atmosphere.
Very cool shop, nice interior, plenty of cool special drinks and pour over coffee available. Would visit again
Perfect spot to be with my baby on a wet, snowy, Tuesday afternoon in the Wayne State District of our fare city. Warmly received and the coffee is on point.
Visited this coffee shop the last time I was in town, and made sure to stop back by. Got a lavender latte and it was super good. The wait was a little long, but the staff was super friendly so I did not mind. The place was busy- from students doing work on their laptops to groups of friends catching up with one another. I was reading a book from class, and I enjoyed how open and cozy this place was.Would definitely come back. Its a super cute place.
Keep coming back for the spicey mocha year after year! Love the creative energy and ambience in here.
The best coffee in Detroit. I had the SUMATRA JAMBI a must have. Great menu selection WOW!! Not to mention the ambience will have you forgetting what time is it. The friendly staff will have you feeling like you belong. Detroit is so blessed to have The Great Lakes Coffee right here on Woodward right across from the DMC Breakfast, Lunch, Amazing Coffee or a drink with with friends. They will have you coming back.
I bought a regular cup of coffee with cream. $2.75 +tx... REALLY good cup of coffee. Looking forward to having another soon. Will look for the beans as well.
The best nitro I’ve ever found !! one of the best avocado toasts I’ve ever scarfed down 😋 also the best barista on the 🌎 Cassidy! but honestly everyone here is amazing. My boyfriend and I are are diehards and love the atmosphere here. He also loves the muffins. I have the Mackinaw blend at home and that might be my favorite at home coffee. Honestly I’ve tried so many places on road trips and adventures and this is my go to!
Good people, good food, and good coffee. What else can you ask for.
Really like the atmosphere of this place I love the fact it a coffe and wine place. Nice place to kick back and relax with friends or study they also have great customer service
Friendly staff, and great place to have a coffee
Amazing coffee. The locally named coffees is a new cool touch. This is one of my top 5 Detroit coffee spots in the city.
Great matcha latte (they can make unsweetened, yey!) and I love, love the fact that they adjusted hot cocoa temperature for my daughter - made it just right temperature! Thank you
High prices. Mediocre food. No table service. (If you want another second of anything... or anything else, you must get up, wait on line again, and order it!) They must be losing a ton of money with this method. Bagel and Lox $13 contained very little, squashed pieces of lox and an over abundance of cream cheese... UGH! Arrogant attitude from food server when I politely asked that my table be cleaned before sitting. And, they didnt clean it! Never again!
Just about the most hipster cafe Ive ever seen. What appears to be a normal coffee shop from the outside actually serves unique menu items such as the 50/50 (half coffee half beer), vegan bahn mi sandwiches (thats what is on the menu, I dont think there are vegetarian or meat versions available), or smoked shrimp tacos.I can only rate based upon my iced coffee, which was excellent. Highly recommended.
Really love this place. Most of the coffee places dont have a vibe of a legit coffeehouse, this one has a great variety of coffee for all the coffee lover out there! My personal suggestion would be spicy mocha with a cayenne pepper, very delicious! Oh and they also have true and legit macaroons, as they must be. Good spot!
Place was crowded when we went. Lots of people on their laptops just getting work done. It’s funny that it’s not just a coffee shop. They serve food plus beer and alcohol. Coffee is alright. I got a chai latte which personally was a bit overpriced but guess that comes with the fancy designs on top of these coffees made by the baristas.
Great staff and very attentive and they are nice.
Cool coffee shop in the heart of DetroitGreat to see this city becoming vibrant again.
Great place to sit and get work done, come early if you want a seat near an outlet.
Of all the coffee shops I visited during my week in Detroit, this was my favorite. Delicious coffee, baked goods, and breakfast, and it was a nice spot to hang out as well. Came back in the evening to sample the great beer selection and again really enjoyed the vibe. Staff is very friendly and helpful as well!
Awesome matcha latte!!!
Fine products served by finer people. Clean and socially distanced but with that cozy college coffee house feel. You could be arriving for that marathon cram session or energizing for a night of mayhem and shennanigans.......no better place to start or finish.
Spacious, friendly, innovative, tasty, trendy, and comfortable. Great music, great selection of coffee and tea drinks along with homemade concoctions and beer. The chai latte with almond is the perfect blend of spice and creaminess. The mocha is equally balanced. Neither is overly sweet. The barista bangs them out with precision.
One of the best coffee shops in Detroit!
