First time here. Was really suprised at the variety of options on the menu. Breakfast, coffee, and icecream.The waffle sausage, egg and cheese sandwich was surprisingly delicious. The waffle had a candied syrup crust flavor to it that was really good, but at the same time was fluffy and moist. We also tried one in a biscuit. Depending on if your in the mood for savory or sweet both would be good.The biscuits and gravy were good as well. The gravy reminded my S.O. of one of his favorites. There was plenty of gravy, enough for 2 biscuits even though the half order we got only had 1 biscuit.The mocha Latte I got was good, but a little too sweet. Next time Id try a flavored Latte or Breve without the mocha to see if I like it better.

I love the atmosphere here. Its always nice and relaxing and clean. I love to come here and study or chill. Its so calm. The music is really beautiful! And the coffee is delicious. The employees are so amazing and helpful. Definitely stop by!

Sloooow drive through. It was 1pm on a Saturday and there was only one car in front of us and it took 20 minutes to get our coffee and latte. Pretty basic order but took forever.The labor force is tight but slow service has been a common theme at the other two Smokey Row locations visited.

Went to drive thru, ordered med americano, 4 shots. Was given large, I don’t want that much volume, doesn’t meet taste needs. Went inside for correction and easier communication. Charged for second drink. I won’t return

Interesting how the drive thru worker (on two separate occasions) has a complete personality shift from bubbly and friendly to short and to the point after they awkwardly ask you how much you’d like to tip them at the window and you politely decline. I should add this was before we received our drinks. Which they got wrong.The actual coffee typically tastes great, but they need a lesson in proper customer service. :/They’d get more tips with a classic tip jar.

Coffee tastes like milk. They randomly put peanuts in a shake and almost killed me. But the environment is good. Great decorations. Cleanly bathrooms. However, not enough outlets for the type of establishment this is.

Great restaurant and relaxed atmosphere that serves breakfast all day. Perfect menu for the family.

The food and drinks here are great! The service is horrible. My family and I stood in line for about 10 mins, we ordered our food and beverages and went and sat down to wait for another 10 mins. We received our food then waited another 10mins until we were called up to get one of our beverages. After another 10 mins we had to get up again to get another one of our other beverages. After we finished our meal, we still were short some items. It was not worth standing in line to get our missing items when we had already been there close to an hour. They need better management. I wish we would have gotten our beverages first and all at once, then our meals.

Great atmosphere. Good scone. And good customer service. However, the coffee was the most water-ed down version of a cheap cup of Folgers that I’ve ever had, and I ordered the dark roast! Drank two or three sips - tossed the rest in the trash.

Grossed out. Ordered the cheese hamburger soup bread bowl in the drive thru. Got it home and the soup container was impeded inside the bread bowl. $8 in the trash!

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!Was a frequent customer, but the last few times staff has been rude, or didn’t put my order in, or have put in the wrong order. Not going to the Ankeny location ever again.For what they charge, customers deserve better!!!

I know its just milk and ice cream but somehow its the best damn milkshake in town.

The baristas are so so so kind and sweet here. Always cheerful and inviting in the early morning hours - and Im sure they are there well before open! They know the menu like the back of their hand, and they make amazing specialty coffees. Kudos to the team that keeps this place running!

Enjoy breakfast-Ordered broccoli quiche 3 times and always different-1)with Orange-2)no orange, but toast, 3)1slice of Orange . Ordered the egg casserole-Like a slice of pizza and hard crust all the way around . I enjoy the atmosphere, but am now down to once a week instead of 2-3 times, and just order a muffin .

I really wanted to like this place. First visit: Salad was tasty. Second visit: Gal on intercom @ drive-up was literally hysterically happy, loud & obnoxious. At the window we were asked how much we wanted to tip. Hmmm...kinda takes the fun out of tipping + puts one on the spot. Then we had to pull up & park for several minutes & wait for 2 sandwiches (can I get my tip back)? Got home & found the sandwiches with very little on them & “raw” bacon. Maybe the coffee is good, but we’ll never know. 🤨

Ive done the drive-thru here a ton. Love their sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches and scones. Chai lattes with almond milk are always good. The drive-thru line can get a little long, but they move along fairly quick. The staff are always really nice.I was inside for the first time this weekend and the music was a bit too loud for my taste. Seemed louder than the one in Sherman Hills.

If youre looking for a local coffee shop, then look no further than Smokey Row. I was happy to have this be put in just down the street. Great coffee and food selection and its a bonus that its a local business.

Staff was friendly, but made the experience very awkward when asking for a tip at the window. I have worked in the service industry and find this very strange. You don’t ask a customer to their face how much of a tip they want to add AND especially before the service you provide. Put a tip jar outside the window if you want tips so bad. I read a very similar review and I agree that it puts the customer in a strange situation. Not to mention the service was extremely slow and my tornado (ice cream) was straight milk and all liquid.. could I also get my tip back? This was our first time at the Ankeny Smokey Row and I don’t believe we will be returning.

Coffee was great but every time I drink one I have to buy a new shirt because their cheap cups leak. Every time 😂 Get a napkin to drink your coffee and bring a tide pen. Lol

Their chai latte is incredible - truly the best Ive had in years. And, of course, their cookies and tiramisu are legit.I love how they integrated many attributes of their Des Moines store into their new Ankeny location. Love it.

Good quick coffee and also a great place to meet a friend. It’s very quiet compared to the one downtown and the tables are spread far apart, which I know is necessary during the pandemic. But I hope this place is packed and full of noise like the older shop once life goes back to normal.

I really liked the appearance and feel in this place. If your going for coffee or ice cream I am guessing they will nail it. We got food. Eh. Microwave hamburger from what I am assuming is a bag. Kettle chips...yeah they were straight plain chips. Was a little disappointed. $1.83 for a small 8 oz glass of tea.The staff was very friendly and the place was fairly clean. In this world of covid they have great options to spread out. The staff saved the review from about a high two.

I am a tipper. Let me start out by saying that. I respect the service industry. But I gotta be honest, it puts a bad taste in my mouth at the fact that Smokey Row shoves a tablet in your face to try to get you to tip the baristas. For what? A waitress, an Uber driver, or even the hostess at a takeout stand at a restaurant is fine. But why is Smokey Row putting people on the spot by asking for tips? What happened to the at will tip jar right by the cash register? Your Spiced Chai is bar none. But your business practices are tacky and de classe.

Order the double decker and a strawberry banana shake and you wont be disappointed!!! The chicken salad sandwich is amazing also. We stop in 2 times a week for good service, amazing food and ice cream!! Every worker has been extremely happy to serve you unlike some other spots.

Solid coffee and relaxing atmosphere.

On Saturday October 10th bad. We ordered a bowl of cheeseburger clam chowder. When they bought out the food we said we ordered a bowl not a cup. The cup of soup was about 2/3 full. My dads was up to the top. The waitress said we ran out getting more but it will be a while. She said if you want we can give you credit. I took one bite of the soup and it was cold. We told the waitress the soup was very cold. I am sorry I will tell the cook. Reminder you she left the soup at that table and never came back. We had to ask for a refund and it took 4 people to fix the credit.. 😢😢 otherwise the other food was good.. never did get the soup😢😢

Really enjoy the atmosphere of the coffee shop. Plenty of room even when busy. Great coffee and milk shakes, muffins are very tasty. Great place to grab a bite on the go or hang out for couple hours.

What a great place! The food and drinks are great, the atmosphere is comfortable and the staff are very courteous and attentive. I have tried a variety of their coffee drinks and I enjoyed them all. It was a great place to meet.

Quaint bar-type coffee shop! Spacious interior and great affordable panini and cheeseburger. My daughter and I split our sandwiches! The taramisu was delicious! Staff was helpful and kind, they were out of chicken for the panini, so they went out of their way to find a replacement meat, new sandwich or refund. Ham was perfect. Definitely would come back again.

The wait was a little long. It appeared as if four teenagers were running the cafe.

Wonderful coffee house with very fast internet and lot of food options besides their coffee choses, they are keeping social distancing on there booths and still serving customers. One of our new favorite places to work and eat.

Love the atmosphere at this place. The coffee is great, the whole vibe of the shop is awesome. This is a great place to do work or meet with friends. The reason I took two stars away was because of the breakfast food. The eggs are frozen premade. So you cannot get something like an over easy egg in the side. The eggs on the sandwiches reflect this as they are obviously bland and frozen from a box. For the price point and stature of Smokey row this is a disappointment. Buying and cracking eggs is so simple, much cheaper, and so much better!

I ordered an iced coffee with a little cream and caramel flavor; what I got was pretty much cream with a little coffee and about a whole inch of caramel at the bottom of the cup, which was pretty disappointing. I will definitely give them another try though, I love the atmosphere and huge menu!

I would rate 3.5 if I could.Overall I really like this establishment but I have a few comments.Pros:The space is really big and the tables are nicely distanced (inside). The coffee is super good - the cold brew is amazing. I love that food and sweets are available too.Cons/Complains:I am always FREEZING in there. Ive left early a few times b/c I could not feel my hands to type. I bring so many layers with me and try to warm my hands on my coffee. The temperature has always been that cold.They have signs on the tables saying they are clean, but when you leave nothing tells you to flip the sign over or do anything to notify that the table is dirty. I rarely see staff come out to sanitize the tables. Also the sign on the door says Mask are highly encouraged, but not required, not sure why the second half needs to be on there.My food has been hit or miss, seems to depend on who is cooking. The first time I got a wrap it was amazing, but the next couple times it came ripped or falling apart. The first time I got tortilla chips I only got crumbs, and the next couple times they were really stingy on the number of chips. I would not recommend the pannis (looked like deli meat and bread wasnt good). I love that they have bread bowls, but their choice of bread seems odd to me (like a white instead of a sourdough). Burger was pretty good.I hope they read this and address the cons. With COVID this is one of the few places I go when I need to get out of the house to work. I would like to keep coming since the coffee is so good but we will see.

Even though Im unable to mask, I was refused service. Sad since there was plenty of social distancing, and I would not have been at the counter more than 30 seconds. It just shows people dont care about the exceptions.

Sandwiches are super inconsistent in quality. And now they use a panini press to warm up and squish the cold croissants. They are not cheap enough for the bad quality

Went to the Ankeny location for a first date(went awesome btw) Loved the Chia Tea and atmosphere as well.

Cold soup. Cup not full. Grilled cheese not hot. Chicken pot pie cold.4 people loitering behind counterPop filled up so full dribble all over my husband hands & shirt. Poor service. .

Locally roasted espresso, absolutely amazing. Stop wasting your money at the national chain coffee shops. The food is pretty darn tasty too.

Wonderful coffee without the pretentiousness. If you like sweet - their Sweet Georgia Brown is a must try!

They’re always so great. i’m incredibly picky about how i get my redeyes and they do a FANTASTIC job. any time my order may be wrong (which is rare), they fix it right away and are so cool about it. So thankful they’re finally in ankeny!
