They were very courteous and the customer service was excellent! They repaired my car the same day and even helped us with things to do. We were stranded from Indiana and needed a rear differential. They called around and got the part and repaired it without hesitation. They even inspected the tires and helped us get 4 new tires! It made our day!!! Thanks guys such a great team!

I went to Merlins to get my power steering pump fixed due to a leak, I didn’t have any other problems. Once I got my car back I then had acceleration issues and suddenly a new break problem (scraping sound) so I ended up letting them keep my car and try and fix the now new issues. A few days later I go to pick it up and now have the car again and it is not fixed and it’s actually worse off than when I went the first time, the break issues are gone- but- all of the lights are on and it will not accelerate. Rpms are going up like crazy but zero acceleration no matter how much I press on the gas. Slightly disappointed in Merlins.

Went here for a free A/C check for my car since the air conditioner wasnt blowing cold and whistling. They quoted me a new compressor clutch, a $500 repair. I ended up resolving the issues myself with a new fuse for the clutch and a new cabin filter, which cost me maybe $30. Shops like this are why people have a hard time trusting mechanics. Definitely get a second opinion before you have any repairs done here.

Dont trust this location. I paid $360 for a part replacement and in the end the oil drained out completely. I wasnt near that location I was 2 hours away so I went to another mechanic and they said they didnt tighten the part enough and I had to pay to get it diagnosed fixed and on top of that my engine light turned on after the oil leaked. My car came out worse than when I brought it in. I called them the same day it happened and then when I went personally after a few days they claimed I should have called (which I did and all they said was to bring it in and and they couldnt trust work from another mechanic).I had all the paperwork of the issue from the other mechanic and they didnt take any responsibility. At the end they didnt compensate me for anything! Kevin the manager was of no help!

The guy at the phone said that he was fine with me to drop my car for an oil change. But the guy at counter was very rude to me and said he has no appointment for the day. He was behaving as if I was getting my repairs for free. This is the first time I have felt such a bad customer experience after being a loyal customer to Merlin for more than two years now. Time to move my auto care to some other center.

Not liking the upselling, let me tell ya. Had my oil changed 2 months ago, they did not reset the digital readout on my dash. No biggie, I track the mileage, and they put a sticker in the window as well. Went back today to address another issue,and the guy tells me that Im due for another oil change because the readout says so, completely ignoring their own sticker showing the day and milage of my last oil change. (That last oil change they tried upselling me an air filter for $80. Um no, $30 bucks at auto zone and I can easily do it myself) Tries to sell me tire sensors at 40 each telling me he needs to replace them to replace my valve stems (another long story) gave me a dirty look when I told him that I didnt have sensors installed when I replaced my tires and other than the dash light being on, I have had no issues ($2 pressure gage works just as well...) The pro was that they are not booked up like Farm and Fleet, so they got me in quickly for the work, and even with the upsell, they are mostly polite (dirty looks aside).

Ive been to Merlin for a couple of years and I havent had any issues until recently when my husband and I encountered Steve Bruner. He is very dismissive, inconsiderate, and has poor customer service skills. On a couple of occasions, my husband and I have had several conversations with him about our vehicle and a conversation about a coupon. His interaction with us on both occasions was rude. His behavior indicates that hes not interested in helping us.. Honestly, he should not be working at the front desk. I may have to speak with his supervisor about his behavior. I do not want to have any encounter with him again. Beware of Steve Bruner.

I myself have two Vehicles that they have worked on and every time Steve and his crew have been on the money. Never had to go back for the same problem. Great place and hard working crew. They always treat me with respect and provide honest service. On my most recent visit, I let them know I might need new brakes and they were honest enough to tell me what actually needed to be replaced vs what didnt. Saved me around $300 that most other places would have gladly taken. Thats definitely the type of service Ill be back for! I would recommend them to anyone looking for a shop that wont throw you through the ringer. Always top notch service with a smile!

I replaced the rear control arms on my father-in-laws car and took it here to have an alignment done since the rear was toed in after. They replaced the drivers front control arm and then performed an alignment but apparently never touched the rear and also claimed the swaying down the road was caused by the rear struts (which were not bad as they were replaced 2 years ago). After looking at the car it was clear the rear tires were still toed in and the steering wheel was still not straight. After calling I was yelled at for suggesting that the rear wasnt touched and was rudely told I could come in and they would show me that it was dead on. After the disrespect I was given over the phone we decided to take it to Archer Alignment where they actually did the job correctly and the car is no longer swaying going down the road and the steering wheel is straight again. These people will never receive our business again.

I typically always have a great experience with these guys but they rushed through this time. I asked them to check my tire that’s as having issues and I was told there was nothing wrong with it, I took it down the road to another shop where they told me the issue was a nail. I know for a fact they did not actually check it like I asked and I’m afraid to see what else they may have done poorly or skipped.

0 stars if I could. This place is a joke. If you want to receive “expert advice” I HIGHLY recommend going elsewhere. Went here because I needed an oil change and I’d gone here a few times prior but I knew something was wrong with my car so I asked them to check everything out. I told them of rattling noises and shaking yet, after two hours, they insisted the only problems my car had was a gash in the front tire and that it required new brakes which they quoted me at $900.. I LAUGHED! The brakes are $200 on Amazon and require a simple YouTube video to do yourself. 1 day after them not accurately diagnosing my vehicle, I attempted to travel on the highway, which they said was fine (but to watch the tire). My entire engine went out in a newer model vehicle and I was stuck roadside awaiting a tow. Turns out there’s a recall on my cars engine and Merlins took no liberty of looking into anything. I told them of numerous different problems and they did no research, shocking how much more you can learn on your own. Please please please go to a local mechanic, not this corporate garbage.

I usually really enjoy getting my oil change here and if I had any work that needed to be done merlins used to be my place but yesterday I brought my car in for an oil change and also told them that I was having issues with what I thought was the transmission and to please double check everything as I don’t know what’s causing the issues. I eventually get a call that my car is ready to be picked up and I get a ride over their to pick up my car I ask them if they were able to figure out the problem I was having they said they couldn’t get into the transmission which was understandable but everything else was perfect and the car is good to go. I get in my car and now I notice the check engine light is on and the issues I was having have gotten kind of worse. So I took it to another shop just to make sure to see if they could figure it out told him the same thing and that I think it’s the transmission he got in the car started it and immediately noticed it wasn’t a transmission issue but a misfire in the engine. He fixed it and then I was off on my way without anymore issues. I know I should have said maybe it’s not just the transmission, maybe it’s somewhere else like in the engine but to have an inspection done and then get told everything is good to go and then have to drive to another shop within a short amount of time as when I got my car back all the mechanics were starting to close up and couldn’t get me in. That’s just not ok

Ive been coming to this shop for 10+ years. Its a pleasure coming here Everytime. The service I receive is nothing less than professional. Everyone there is very honest with you and wont try to get you to replace a bunch of parts you dont need to fix. The customer service is amazing, everyone there is very nice and I enjoy talking to all the staff there. Theres one guy there named Steve and hes really a joy to talk to and he knows his way around fixing cars. ALWAYS, ALWAYS take a second opinion after getting a checkup here. They will without a doubt find some issue in your car, tag it as a safety threat, and force you into getting it repaired at that very visit.I don’t write reviews but this time I had to. I have been there 3 times for oil change and my car has fallen sick the very next day. (Only to be worse than before). My roommate had the same experience and hence we figured out the pattern.Point is, just take a second opinion before giving somebody your hard earned money.

Ive had two or three different cars serviced here. The work itself is high quality, and customer service is always great. Unfortunately, the cost of parts and labor is wildly inflated. I recently had my rear trailing arm replaced. While local competitors offer that particular part for $40-$80, I paid $118 for it here, along with nearly $100 for labor. I was offered an estimate on an alignment which wouldve ran me about $80, which is not competitive pricing when compared to local shops. I would recommend that you buy your own part, then negotiate on labor costs.

Took 2 hours from our scheduled appointment before they even moved our truck to look at it. We had a warranty issue (part of the exhaust system fell of after 20,000 miles)that they did cover, but what they do not tell you is how much labor for that part will cost you. Labor is not covered under the warranty. They also do the usual we checked your vehicle and you need ....

I went to Merlins TWICE to get my brakes looked at. They said they looked at everything and it all looked great in good condition.. Well I I decided to get another opinion from a shop in Chicago (integrity Chicago motor) and they said my rotors had a lip on them and my pads were down to 30%!I would never think that they would send me out like that especially since I told them about them grinding. Thats money in their pockets right?All I gotta say if youre a woman that doesnt know much about cars and youre by yourself I wouldnt come here. Guess they dont want our money.

My daughter and her husband have taken their vehicle to get fixed here 2 times....the second time only because they did the first atrocity and said they could fix with additional $900 repairs which would be now close to $2000 in repairs and now no car still! They saved up and did without for over 6 months and AGAIN they got the car back and it broke within HOURS. After taking it back they said they couldnt help and wouldnt compensate.** They shouldnt have committed to fixing it if it couldnt be and now she is out the additional money they had saved up and they are worse off because they trusted them!! They have a daughter, a boy with special needs and a new baby and DO NOT have that kind of money! Honestly we have no problem that it couldnt be fixed but the fact they committed to it TWICE and convinced them that all would be ok is WRONG!!Oh, yes they said they would do a tune up and an oil change on their next car as compensation. SERIOUSLY?! What car? They should have been told to put their money into that new car instead of trusting them! And being offered about $100 worth of work for $2000 paid is an insult!!!!

Came in on a day off and the Manager who greeted me was extremely rude. Gave me a spheal about how they were too busy to do an oil change, then decided to do it.after getting the oil change, i had a substantial leak that has lead to numerous problems that have created endless nightmares. all because the oil change was rushed and the oil pan was damaged during the oil change.DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS LOCATION UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

They were honest, courteous, respectful, friendly, and able to accommodate my needs the same day without an appointment. I had problems with my truck starting so they ran diagnostics and found the issue with an electrical relay to the gas pump.l, which they then recommended going to the dealership because there have been some similar issues/re-calls on similar model trucks. They didnt even charge me for the diagnostics because they couldnt fix it. They even drove me back to my hotel while they worked on it to determine what was going on.

Ended up in DeKalb area last week with a muffler problem. Easily found the Merlin Muffler Shop on Sycamore Rd. and was greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The car was ready in the time frame they told us it would be and to our surprise, it was a lot less money than we thought it would be to fix it. The technician actually seemed as happy as we were that he was able to save us money and that it wasnt as big as a problem as previously thought. We would recommend this shop for anyone that would need car servicing.

He and Joe also helped my visiting sister from Wisconsin with a minor repair to get her home for free! They took 2-3 hours to do a simple oil change.... I arrived at around 9 am and waited until noon... I even called ahead and it still took hours. The shop manager made me feel uncomfortable and told me my car done when it wasn’t. Overall an odd and painful experience but at least it was a free oil change, one that I would have never paid for.

Id only recommend coming here if you need an oil change and a tire rotation, want it done cheaply, and can deal with some malarkey. There $20 oil/rotation deal is nice, but the salesmen will try to get you to buy things you dont really need for the car at way to high of a price. The waiting room is super annoying; the T.V. plays a none stop loop of ads.

4 times I have scheduled an appointment online and all 4 times it meant absolutely nothing. I would arrive a few minutes before my appointment time and I would be placed in line after everyone who walked in. Case in point, I had a 1pm appointment scheduled today and brought the car 5-10 minutes early. Its now 1:45 and my car is still in the parking lot unserviced. Even with a full waiting room and if all 5 people had the same appointment time scheduled and Merlin only used 4 of their 6 service spots for oil changes the math just doesnt add up. If this is the case why have appointment schedules available online? What good is it? And if you are running that far behind then a courtesy text or call to people who took the time to schedule an appointment online would be nice.Otherwise youre telling the customer you dont care if they have to wait. I would assume most people who schedule an appointment time online is because they dont have the time to just sit and wait long periods of time. Last time I am coming here for sure. They are always nice and apologize but Its never gotten any better. Apologies mean that you are sorry and you will do your best to not let it happen again. Its not a free card to lay down all the time without making an effort to not let it happen again. Its worth the extra 5 bucks to go to Mobil or another lube shop and be guaranteed to be in and out in 15-20 minutes and without scheduling an appointment. It is now 2:15pm and my car is finally done (75 minutes after my 1pm appointment). A 60-90 minute basic oil change 4 straight times should not happen. Its hard for me to make this complaint because the people here are extremely polite which is why Ive kept coming back here but their process needs to change dramatically for me to come back again.

I have been using this place over 2 years because their kindness. However, this time they wasted my morning time just for oil change. Lazy boys! They put my car in 2 hours. They do NOT serve the customer comes earlier. Rather they serve the customer with more payment first. All customer before me snd some of after me are all gone. I will never recommend this place. Best place to waste money! They told me I need to change the compressor and condenser, the total was almost 1,500, but all u needed for my car was a radiator fan. Which I only spend 100 to fix somewhere else. They minupulate you into thinking there are more problems than there really is. Worst place to waste time and money

I had my exhaust replaced here. Friendly staff but are disorganized and dont understand customer service. They definitely did damage to my vehicle while they worked on it. A mystery vibration started that made the car horrible to drive. I took it to 3 shops and nobody could figure out what had happened. I ended up trading in my vehicle and getting a new car. Thanks for the added car payment to my finances. The manager offered me 4 free oil changes. I mean yeah that completely covers my loss of a vehicle?...The manager tried hard to correct the problem but never found an appropriate solution which would have been fixing the problem they caused! I would NEVER use this company again. Additionally, their mechanical who evaluate customer cars can be so different in their opinion in the wear they see on a vehicle its ridiculous. I watched them share one of these reports with an older gentleman who became worried and irritated. The scare tactics used by this company are disgusting. You cant put any work off when you come here. Your car could fall apart at any minute for a million reasons they falsely write or exaggerate on their inspection sheets.

This shop is absolutely amazing! I’ve been to just about every oil change place in Dekalb and this one is by far the best i’ve been to. The staff are outstandingly kind, attentive, and explain things to customers perfectly. They provided great, thorough service and all the staff went above and beyond to provide some of the highest quality customer service i’ve experienced in a while.While they were servicing my vehicle, I overheard their conversations with other customers and they treated them like family by giving genuine advice and guidance for bigger repairs and they were being very real on getting them the fairest price. I wish I found this place sooner!

I didnt get service here, but I went in to get a transmission flush and the guy directed me to Valvoline down the street (Guess they dont do flushes at this location) He said the guy running the shop down there would get me a discount, which he did. These guys were nice but thats a saleperson they want to sell. I took my GMC Acadia in for a a/c recharge. They advertise free a/c inspection even on the side of the building, but they failed to see a leak in the system. Took it in again once they figured it out it came out to be thousands of dollars. I asked just to see if i can get part of my money back since they failed to see the leak - simple yes or no. Manager there gave his whole life story -pretty much for a simple NO, but thats how sales work a big F U C K Y OU!!!!No big deal i figured Id ask. took it down the road to a different mechanic (you have to get estimates) and it was NOT near what they -Merlin 200,000- quote me. I understand as a mechanic you have to act a salesperson as well but to get peoples hard earn money. NO THANK YOU.* UPDATE *So the manager called back to talk. He now said this wasnt right and was going to return my money. Which was nice. At the end manager Steve went all out to keep a customer, which he did. To the point were he even offered a ride home. We agreed on a fix and left Merlin 200,000 VERY SATISFIED. Thank you. Raised the rating from 1 to 3, i would go 3.8 if i could. Same service at the beginning would of definately been a 5. This place sucks!! I had them repair my sway links a year ago. I was told by another shop a month later that they were IMPROPERLY installed. I took it to Merlin, and they fixed it because it was still under warranty so I figured I would give them another chance on my vehicle in the future.Little did I know I should have never made the mistake of giving Merlin another chance. I had them replace my front drivers side wheel bearing because I was told by Merlin that was the problem. My car has been handling horribly ever since they repaired it, and I feel like Im driving a lemon now. I took my car back to Merlin to get new tires put on like a week after they did the wheel bearing and Steve, the red shirt guy, suggested that they redo my wheel bearing for whatever reason unknown to myself. My question is why wasnt it done correctly the first time I waited here for over 3 hours on my weekend off from work?Please avoid this place at all cost unless you want to spend over $1000 on your vehicle, have to visit them frequently so that they can fix their so called high quality repairs by their so called high quality technicians(words from Joe the manager himself), and have your vehicle turned into a lemon, and subsequently, end up with a feeling of having been scammed just a week after theyve worked on your vehicle. Joe, the manager, who I thought was a nice guy even drove my vehicle when I told him that it wasnt handling correctly, and he lied to my face and told me that it rides smoothly. I had never felt so much vibration in my brakes and throttle in the 6 years that Ive owned the vehicle, but according to Joe, it rides smoothly. I wish I could get back the $1200 that Ive given Merlin, 14 weekend hours spent on 5 separate visits, and trust for auto repair shops that I once had, not to mention my once reliable car; but I cant. You can prevent yourself from making the same mistakes that I did by avoiding Merlin at all cost!P.S. Youll have to wait FOREVER and I mean forever for them to repair, aka- mess up your vehicle. Theyll also print out a long repair list totaling at least $1000 for every working part on your vehicle. Like the other reviewers had mentioned, if you do end up at Merlin for some very sad reason-- at least get a 2nd opinion before authorizing any repairs! I thought I could trust them; dont you.We need a no star option.

I take great care of my car. Ever since I started going to Merlin Ive had 3 major breakdowns and my car has never had issues before. They quoted 730 for a break job I did for 20. When I did the breaks I had to have another full grown man help me break the bolts on the tires cause they screwed them in so hard. They are scamming people. Dont go here

I used to like these guys....Here are my Pros- The manager Brian was very nice and helped me get one of my tires changed and then did a full inspection for free and told me my car was in great shape...Just pointed out small things like I needed an oil change, new air filter, etc..- I told them my license plate light was out. I ordered the part from Advanced Auto Parts and they installed it free.- I got my oil changed there for $20, which is cheaper than others in the area.ConI took my car in for an oil change and they did their routine check and then gave me a list of over $600 worth of stuff that needed to be repaired. This caused me a lot of distress until I decided to get a second opinion. I talked to several mechanics and took it in to a local shop.They did a full inspection and determined the only thing wrong was a minor problem that did not make my car dangerous to drive and they would order the part and fix it. Part and Labor was $170. Thats a big difference.I hear these places like Merlins work off commission and I think they were trying to get one over on me because I am a young girl...Well, I may be young but I am not naive.I will not be taking my car to Merlins for any type of service again. Makes me sad to think how many other people they may have scammed like this.

I was a little disappointed with this place on my last visit, simply because I wasted about 1hr 30 min of my morning, and felt like they just disregarded my appointment. Although there were busy especially on a Monday morning I forget they had appointments in front of me which I’m assuming ran over. These guys still treated me with respect even after I got a lil upset 😡 they took care of me when I came back in and got me right together. I didn’t give them 5stars because they didn’t have a pot of coffee for the customers haha

If I could give 0 stars I would. I had my front brakes done and tires aligned and both were done wrong. A dealership confirmed my alignment on the front was off so I had to take it back and Merlin redid it. Then a few weeks later I took my car to a mechanic for unrelated work and he said my front brake pads were put on backwards. He thought I had done it myself because anyone who works on cars should know how to put on a simple brake pad. It could have resulted in severe damage to the car but I got lucky. Merlin gave me a coupon for a free oil change but that is going straight into the garbage!I WILL NEVER TAKE MY CAR HERE AGAIN, I WOULDNT TRUST THEM TO WORK ON A TRICYCLE.

This place is Awesome been coming to this place since 2010 and always had an Awesome experience. Joe,Chris and Steve and all the technician very knowledgable,curteous and professional and fairly priced not just another quick lube shop they offer so much more. Thanks again!Update i will no longer go here for oil changes end up striping out my drain plug now i know why they told me recommend get a new oil pain smh! I will be doing my own oil changes from now on.
