I Love Wood World. Having just recently decided to learn the ancient craft of turning wood into useful things; they are super helpful. If you are not careful, you could end up coming home with a whole bunch of Walnut like I did.I made a desk for my girlfriend who now works from home. I had never done anything like this before and thanks to their guidance, beautiful wood and the right urethane finish I bought there; it came out pretty amazing!I bought the standing desk legs from UpLift Desk online. Thanks for the Encouragement Wood World.
Stopped in here last week because I was looking for wood table tops. I immediately saw that it wasnt that type of store but I was intrigued and looked around. Saw some pretty wood slabs still with the bark on them and asked what it would take to make them into table tops. The gentleman I spoke with was very helpful and I decided to give it a try. I wasnt expecting to come home with wood slabs but they managed to squeeze them into my Camaro. A week later, I have 2 beautiful table tops in my winery. Are they perfect? Nope. Are they awesome? Absolutely! Will I do a project like this again? Quite possibly!
Ordered some stuff from them online, and they were very good at communicating what was going on with my order. The stuff I got looks solid, so if it works as well as it looks I will be a happy camper.
With a variety of materials for all sorts of projects they will probably have exactly what you need.
I enjoy Wood World. The selection is the best that Ive found around here and they seem to cater to hobbyists rather than larger scale contractors. My only complaint would be that the prices are quite high. I dont mind paying good money for quality wood but I wouldnt be mad if they were a little more affordable.Their wood selection is leagues ahead of Rockler. And places like Hardwood Lumber Co arent an option unless you want to take a day off work to visit before they close at 4pm. So all in all, Wood World is a good option when making a nice project. I recently spent $700 on 6/4 Walnut to build a dining room table. Although expensive, the result exceeded my expectations.
My favorite wood shop in DFW. If you’re serious about selection and customer service, these guys know their stuff. Willing to actually talk to you about your needs and price points. Not the cheapest but great for the quality.
Very nice peole and also helpful. Had 2 long boards that I bought and they crosscut and squared up the ends, so I didnt have to do it myself. Definitely going to go back for more wood and products in the future.
Great place for designer wood.
Amazing inventory of beautiful and unusual wood!
Very helpful staff. One of the gentlemen happily cut up some sheets of plywood into quarters for me so I could fit them in my car. He even helped load them. Prices for lumber/plywood are better here than at the large chain woodworking stores. I will be back for sure.
Rude. People. Not wearing masks, and really dont want your business unless you own your own wood shop. They have always been this way, and Im done shopping here.
Solid selection. Guys were kind enough to explain pricing. B.f. = Board feet. Then the number on there is how many board feet the pieces cost. Learned a thing
Great customer service, I dont like to be bothered when Im shopping and the guys here let me know they were there but let me do my own thing and when I have questions they answer them thoroughly.
Love this place. Awesome selection of hard to find hardwood. hard to find exotic species, large slabs, insanely large slabs, rolls and rolls of veneer, this place is a wood wonderland!
Nice customer service and knowledgeable, some times their website price is different with store price.
Great people, very knowledgeable and helpful
I will give the Wood selection high marks but the customer service low marks. Overall don’t try and go here any time in the last 30 minutes before they close they’re very rude and will not be helpful even if you know exactly what you need. The wood selection is better than most in Dallas but it’s still at retail prices
This is my go to place for specialty words that are not available at the big box stores. I love woodworking, and being able to find high-quality wood, and a high variety of wood species, is critical to creative works of art. What I really like is that they will do prep work for me to minimize the amount of rough cutting and sanding necessary… additional cost of course. But well worth it. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and very helpful in giving advice.
Great selection of wood.
Always a nice selection of wood and very helpful people running the store.
I had a very good experience here with the service. Being new to woodworking in general, Bob kindly helped me in gain a greater understanding of how wood is priced. He also took the time to help me select the wood with the grain orientation that my particular project needed. He went above and beyond and it is much appreciated. We also had a cool discussion about knives. Ill definitely be back when I need wood for my next project.
Great place to pick up some good clean high-grade lumber SAS and ready to go. Great staff too.
Enjoyed my experience here. As far as wood goes, they had everything I could ever need and could probably order everything else. Very helpful and friendly service from Bob as soon as I walked in. Answered all my questions for my future project and gave me some great advice on their selections. Would have given it 5 stars if the prices were a little clearer and easier to tally up, but really they deserve more of a 4.5. Great place! I will return !
Being new to woodworking, I havent yet gone outside of the big box stores which have very limited selections. The selections here were amazing. They have some very nice pieces of exotic woods, however, I was shocked at the prices. Maybe an experienced woodworker can tell you better than I if the prices are too high. Going from pine, redwood and oak to some of the more exotic woods will take me some time as I wouldnt want to pay those kinds of prices and make mistakes that could end up being very costly.
Great selection of tools, supplies, wood and kits for hobbyists and professionals, combined with great customer service
It has changed since the pandemic, but still courteous and friendly Associates. Always willing to help.
Enjoyed the staff. Great selection.
Im sure I will regret writing this review, but I felt that I needed to share my first experience with this shop. I was not able to get into the store, so this review is not about the stores products or prices, but of those that work there. Im sure that they have great relationships with some of their regular customers, and Im sure theyre very cordial during the day. I had the misfortune of arriving 5 minutes before the posted closing time (arrived 4:55 on Saturday evening and they advertise closing at 5:00). I knew exactly what I was going to the store to purchase, and it was just something that could be pulled off the shelf and brought straight to the register. When I arrived, the door was ALREADY locked! There were two employees still inside, and I tried to get their attention. I wasnt able to speak with them until they left the store at 4:58. I asked them if they were already closed, and said I only needed to get one thing. They responded with Well, we only had a few minutes anyway... Well be back tomorrow at 12:00. Seriously? I dont know ANY other shop that treats customers that way! I do not make it a practice to shop on Sunday, so I responded with Sorry, but I wont... which probably sounded really rude, but was not the intent. I have been trying to find a time to get to this store for two weeks, and when I finally try to make a quick trip, I was extremely disappointed with how I was treated. This is certainly NOT how to earn new customers. Im sure their products are great, and that I am a one-off situation, but this experience has really curbed my desire to attempt another trip to this store. There are certainly other options where I have been welcomed very warmly, and I will continue to return to those other shops.
I guess it really depends on who helps you at this shop. One guy was helpful, and the other was very rude. I was in town for work and live in an area without a shop like this. If that werent the case they would have lost the sale because of the mans poor customer service skills. On the other hand, they had a good selection and decent prices as far as I can tell.
I have been a regular loyal customer of Wood World for over 10 years. The staff are always more than helpful and willing to do what it takes to get whatever tools or supplies that I need. The Owners do everything from manage the store to run the cash register so they have a good pulse of what is going on with their employees and customers. I couldnt give a better recommendation to a woodworkers supply store.MT
They have a great selection of wood.
Today was my second visit toWood World. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is now my go to source for my woodworking projects. See you again very soon.
Was leery of going based on some of the reviews here. I needed some paneling to match existing in the living room. Mitchell was super helpful, and very much a wiseguy---in a GOOD way :) (being a around wood all day I bet you have to find ways to keep entertained). Helped me find what I needed, cross cut the planks for me to fit into my car (and also save me the effort back home). The selection was great, the prices may be more than home depot, but they only carry a fraction of the selection this place does. Nonetheless, prices didnt seem exorbitant. It was my first time going---I wouldnt hesitate to go back.
Wood World is always well stocked, has interesting classes planned or underway, and is well staffed with knowledgeable guys. I got a good deal on a bandsaw blade, got several pen kits, exotic hardwood blanks and some good advice. Enthusiastic five star rating.
Great shop for all of your wood working and wood turning needs. Plenty to choose from and a very helpful staff. The selection of exotic woods is good with fair pricing.
Generally friendly sales staff, excellent selection of wood. Nice selection of power tools. Excellent selection of lathe tools and accessories. Extensive selection of pen kits and pen making supplies.
Very friendly staff and even gave me a discount because the board I had selected had a split on one end. They have a good selection of the usual woods and some more exotic woods that I havent seen many places in DFW. Will definitely go back.
Called to ask where I could get my barstool legs cut down. Very friendly man said they could do it there. I said they are round will that be a problem. He said no. I went in to work late and fought traffic to get there. I was greeted by a not very friendly man who talked to the other men working there to tell me they couldn’t do it. I have very little wood working experience and went home and did it myself. They are perfect.
I recently went to this store after it being recommended by another Makerspace member. I had just gotten off work and was dressed in business professional attire, and got the immediate impression that the staff disregarded me as a woodworking poser. I asked about some items from the website which I was unable to locate, and the staff who answered laughed and said I could not expect for the website to be accurate as to whats in the store. Really? Because every other store on the planet does... Additionally, I asked if they had any Maple burl caps in stock and was looked at with the vacant expression of a person with severe head trauma. They had no idea what I was talking about, and even after explaining what it was, I was treated like I was the idiot. Even after these 2 negative experiences I did grab a couple of items since I was already there. Right before paying I asked about the Makerspace discount and it was not provided because well, I have already rung you up. Again, every other store ever is able to take a discount off at the end of the transaction. He said I could get it next time. Um sorry bud, there wont be a next time.
Everyone is very helpful without any sassy attitudes you get from other places. I feel very comfortable asking questions and have learned heaps, thanks Richard and Craig.
Love the place, guys very knowledgeable. Beautiful wood. Im from NY. They ships to all US
The employees here are extremely helpful and willing to help if you ask for it. Good selection of woods at a fair price.
This is one of the best wood shops Ive come across. They have a great selection of exotics, acrylics, and more. Plus, they so so it to you. Their prices are always spot on.
Always helpful and knowledgeable employees
WW cut a walnut slab for me. Did a great job, exact dimensions I wanted. Very reasonable price.
Wood World was recommended to me by the manager of Rockler (of Richardson).Over the phone, everything seemed fine but once I arrived and physically select the raw wood I needed to be ripped, flatten and sanded it became bazaar. Over the phone, I was quoted $100 per hour mill work fees that was divided into increments of 15 minutes. Rough estimates was about 20-30 minutes to complete my mill work requests. It was the owner (of this family owned business) who helped me and REFUSED to flatten wood via jointer. In his words, simply not worth the hassle for him or his employee(s). I told him this is different from what was presented to me on the phone. It did not matter.... so I ended up wasting almost 2 hours of my time. This business was a big disappointment and clearly a big waste of my time and effort.
Very good selection of lumber including various sheets of ply, slabs, and a good selection of lumber species and sizes. Not a huge warehouse but one of the bigger ones Ive seen in N. Dallas so far. The lumber is surfaced and they can sand it for you for a small fee. Lots of woodworking & turning tools as well.
Been here multiple times for different projects, the employees are very helpful. Will be back in the future.
Great selection of woods and tools. Richard is incredibly helpful. Very knowledgeable and happy to help. Look forward to future visits.
Great place for wood selection and definitely woodturning. A fair selection of tools but not my go to for that. They are friendly and helpful. A nice compliment to Rockler and Woodcraft.
Been shopping there for years. great selection, wood that is almost impossible to find locally. they will cut and plane the wood for you. I feel like the prices are what they should be-you get what you pay for
I am still waiting on my order... It has been a month since I have placed my order and I still have not received my items or even a phone call explaining the delay.I have had to call this company 3 times to receive an update and each time all I was told was a different excuse like - The guy who does the online orders is out of town this week so nothing is getting shipped out, or that we are out of that product and our supplier said he shipped it and it got lost, or call back in a couple of weeks. If I do not receive my order soon I will be going to the credit card company to get my money back. This is no way to run a business. There are many better options when it comes to purchasing wood working tools and accessories. You have lost a customer for life.*** Update I do understand poor customer service and your unapologetic phone call where you said people dont understand how your website ordering works makes me not regret this review one bit.
Helpful staff and nice selection. They have different grades of woods if you can machine it yourself.
Randomly saw this place today and stopped in. They have an awesome selection of unique wood pieces!
Was just looking but friendly Knowledgeable staff
This is the place to go for qualified competent professionals. State of the art machinery, Excellent selection of woods and GREAT customer service.
Convenient, but staff will try to rip you off and charge by the linear foot instead of the board foot. Dont trust them for a second. Id rather spend my money someplace helpful!
Great place for woodworkers and Turners. Tools, kits, hardwood lumber, exotics, and turning squares.
Friendly crew. Fantastic selection of pen kits and such for wood turning. Monthly meet up for the Dallas Area Woodturners.
Called to see if open on MLK day. Hung up without answering on the first ring. Second time, inquired if WW was open, the response was a sarcastic “yeah” then hung up.
Great store, lots of products to choose from, and friendly helpful employees.
Crappy service would be an overstatement! Years back I found a nice board and since then I stop in occasionally to see if I find anything, always putting up with their crappy customer service. Well today was the last day I stop by this establishment, yes this place is that bad! Another vote for rockler and woodcraft, they might not have the assortment of woods, but I will put up with that any day given they know how to treat their clients.
Beautiful selections and very helpful, approachable staff.
Excellent supply of wood. Supplies . Beautiful!!
Just as the name says these folks have a nice selection of wood. The thing that keeps me from giving more stars is their price on plywood. Seems EXCESSIVE. But they have what I need and the staff is pretty friendly and helpful.
Great selection of tools for wood working. Excellent customer care.
Best selection of wood and turning tools in the DFW Metroplex
Helpful staff and a good amount of inventory. Exotic woods too!
Decent collection of hardwoods, unfortunately overpriced vs other retailers in the metroplex.
The staff at this shop helped get the wood I bought cut down to the right size, but I wish the selection wasnt limited to .75 thickness on the sheets. Will return on my next desk build to see if its changed.
I visited this store today for the first and last time. Being somewhat new to woodworking, I needed help identifying the type of wood in a tabletop I am restoring. I luged a large piece of the tabletop into the store, hoping to purchase like wood to make a matching leaf. When I entered the front door, a bell rang to alert employees of a customer. I looked around but did not see anyone. I waited 10 - 15 minutes then began looking more diligently for someone to assist me. I walked to the back and found an office with an open door, inside were two men looking at a single computer. There is a glass window in the office looking into the showroom so I am sure they was aware of my presence. As I stood by the office door, they began cursing as if they were angry at something on the computer. I walked back to the showroom area and waited another several minutes. I then heard some men talking through the warehouse area. When I walked into that area, I found 3 men unloading 2 or 3 pallets of items from a truck parked in the back. One of them turned and asked if they could help me. I told them what I needed and 2 of them walked to the front with me. When we got to the tabletop I had luged inside, one of them (trying to be funny) asked if I was donating the top to them? They laughed. Then they discussed the type of wood and then agreed it is birch. One of them then said he did not think they had any but would look. They turned and walked back through the warehouse area. I then began to wait AGAIN. After another 10 minutes or so, I walked back through the warehouse area to find the 3 men out back by the truck looking at the items that had been unloaded. One turned and saw we and asked again if they could help me? I then replied the other man was looking for some birch for me. That man then turned and said I thought you heard me say we did not have any. (Isnt birch a common wood that should be stocked by this type store?). As I walked away, one of them, seeing I was upset by the wait, asked if I wanted him to call Rockler or Woodcraft, to which I said No thank you as I continued to walk away.I wasted approximately 35 minutes and learned a valuable lessen. DO NOT GO TO woodworld.I drove a few blocks to Rockler and was treated kindly, found the wood I needed, and was given some advice about the glue-up. Oh, and by the way, my table was not birch.
Came into the store today to pickup some red oak John and Randy, Mich were AWESOME !!!!!!Thanks for having such a GREAT selection and WONDERFUL Customer service 5 STARS !!!!!!!
I dont know about yall, but mitchell help me a great deal! he was not only knowledgeable, but friendly too! you can count on this guy!
OUTSTANDING! They were extremely helpful....
The store is ok but the employee was awful! He was a cocky jerk. He not only bragged on and on about stuff he makes but insulated the business Im in and the product I was buying from the store. In his bragging about selling to mark walburg he described him with the statement he was a f***ing d****bag Im insulted that an employee would use that type of language with a customer especially to a women. Very disappointed.
