Harbor auto was recommended to me from a 4runner forum. Amazing experience from start to finish. Personable, professional, knowledgeable. Came in for maintenance light and some 15-a work. Quote was exactly what I paid. Today when I picked up the car my 4 year old who is very into vars was with me and they showing him how to use various tools and gave him a quick look around the shop. Definitely found our forever auto techs for all our family vehicles.Ive been to do many places and been hit with crazy high bills and it didnt even seem like those other shops did anything. After being serviced at Harbor auto everything I asked for was actually fixed and my 4runner is rocking.

Professional and friendly, this place is my favorite for car repair and service, feels like home when you arrive. My 2008 MDX has been serviced there since 2009, in great shape today, still a power horse on outdoor trips (ski and hiking). I heard a minor noise after the last service, John kindly went on freeway with me to hear it out (turns out to be a brushing sound from a falling leaf stuck on the edge of window-:). Michael and John both have great sense of humor, its fun to chat with them on cars, sports and life.

This is the ONLY place to take your car if you want quality service at the lowest cost.

Put the wrong fuel in my rental car. Had my rental car towed to the front of the shop since it was close by. Not knowing the area I called Steve right in the am and even though he couldn’t squeeze me in last minute he walked me next door to Gary’s Automotive shop and got my fuel emptied just in time for my lady and I to go to Six Flags. Possibly the best and most honest mechanics Ive ever dealt with. I live near Mission Viejo, 30 minutes away from this place, but I always take my car here when I need maintenance. That should already tell you how I feel about it. They once fixed my wifes car on the spot and diagnosed the bigger issue without asking for any money. Sure it was a quick and easy fix/diagnosis (for them, I wouldnt even have known how to Google the problem, but they looked under the hood and figured it out), but they couldve easily asked for some payment and I wouldve happily obliged.Since then, every single time Ive taken my car in (3, so far) theyve given me a better price than any other mechanic, theyve been quick, and theyve gone above and beyond to make sure they diagnosed the right problem so I wouldnt overpay.I was recently told by another mechanic that my transmission and some other parts needed to be replaced, for about $2400. Seemed fair, transmission work is known to be expensive I guess. I took it here because I was in the area and wanted a second opinion, and after taking a close look at it John told me that price was kind of ridiculous and that they may be able to fix the problem I was having for about $700.You better believe I told him to go ahead and do it. He got back to me the next day to let me know that unfortunately the part they had replaced didnt fix the issue, and that the shop that helped them with the replacement informed them that the whole transmission had to be replaced, for about $2000. I was bummed, but hey, still cheaper than $2400, and I was prepared for it.But then he said Im still not convinced thats the problem, the transmission seems fine to me, leave it with me another day and Ill have my other friend whos a transmission expert take a look at it.So I did. He calls me back and tells me that the transmission is indeed still fine, but the bad component they had diagnosed originally had also affected the function of a second component, and THAT is what was causing the problem. He said they could replace it for about $800.He found the right solution, which happened to be cheaper, because he didnt just want to make some good money, he wanted to make sure he could fix the issue. If that isnt someone who takes pride in what they do, I dont know who is.Were currently still waiting for that second part to be delivered to them so they can install it and fix the problem. Hopefully that will actually take care of the issue, but I have no doubt that if it doesnt they will do their best to find a solution for it.I would (and did, many times) recommend this place to anybody. Theyre friendly, welcoming, and know what theyre doing. Their dog is also super friendly and if shes around while youre there you can even sneak her some head rubs. Honestly, what more could you ask for?

So glad I found this shop. I moved to California from Utah years ago where I had a nice mechanic who took car of my old but dearly loved 1997 Saturn SC1. Harbor Auto has been nothing short of awesome to me and that old Saturn. Between me being persistent with the maintenance as much as possible, Harbor Auto and my mechanic in Utah, my Saturn ended up going 301,398 miles before its transmission ultimately failed. Yep, you read that right - a GM car made it past 300,000!They are very honest and upfront about pricing estimates, very upfront about repairs, and really good at prioritizing what needs done on a car if you cant get everything done at once. Theyll accommodate you as much as possible. If you have questions or are curious about the inner workings of your car, theyll explain things in laymans terms and try to help you. I cant recommend this place enough.

These guys were all extremely nice!! They fit me in extremely fast, and I barely had to wait. They were all really nice when I was waiting, and the prices were great! I would definitely recommend going in, John was great.

I took my car to Harbor Auto to fix my car window that was not rolling up. They did an excellent job and were very fair in their pricing (I know this because my brother owns a car repair shop in CO and told me what the price should run). I was greeted with a smile and coffee when I came in and they were professional and courteous at all times. Afterwards I had a question about the auto function of the window and Mike told me he was not sure as to an answer, but he would look into it (i love that he was honest and didnt try to BS around). He called me promptly the next day and gave me an answer. I will continue to bring my car to this establishment as I know I will be treated fairly and professionally and not worry about being ripped off because these guys are really good.

Michael inspected our van before we bought it. It was a bit of a tough case, a Chevy g20 camper from 1986. The van was in really good condition but we wanted it to travel the country. Michael was really professional in showing us was could cause problems and explaining the cons of buying it. We didnt know much about anything and it took time to answer all our questions. Hard to say if the quote he gave us at the end was fair, but it seemed like it was.

If youre looking for honest mechanics that do good work in Costa Mesa youve found them!!! Seriously dont go anywhere else.I rolled in there with some pretty funky car noises and a check engine light. They read my error code and took a look at the engine. Cylinder was misfiring and the car was leaking oil. They did an oil change and told me in depth what was going on and the repairs I needed. They could have easily pinned me down and said I needed to get it replaced ASAP. Instead they charged me $75 and told me to come back in as soon as I could to make the repair.Sincerely,#customerforlife

I realize me giving this place a 1 star wont have much of an impact. I recently cleaned out my girlfriends car and I came across an old invoice from this shop. Under the Labor description I see two separate prices. 1 is for 1.2 hrs of labor and the cost was $132.00, the 2nd one is 1.5 hrs of labor but the price is $220. Why such a difference. This place charged my girlfriend a total of $356 to change the oil and filter, and 2 engine mounts. Im looking at the invoice and shaking my head, this place took advantage of a trusting person. She has been taking her car to this place for several yrs. Not anymore, I have found a shop that is fair and honest. Even though this all happened before I met my girlfriend, it tics me off.
