As others have said, this grocery store is slightly more expensive than places like Kroger or Giant Eagle. But they have have some better options as well. It’s smaller, probably 20% the size of one of those other grocery stores. The food they have already made is typically pretty good, I haven’t had anything that has been outstanding or terrible. Overall just pretty good. They have a little dining area if you want to catch lunch or something there, also a small area outside with tables and chairs if it’s a nice day.Pretty decent wine selection too!

They have many local foods etc., As someone who just moved here, it is nice to try different brands and such. It is expensive but it does say gourmet grocery store on Google so theres that. Prices are usually higher on/by college campuses anyway. Definitely should stop by for the local wine and cheesecake. Friendly workers. And wear your mask!

The overall prices here are very over priced in comparison to some other markets I’ve been to in Columbus. What a great place to have in downtown Columbus! A block away from CCAD and the Columbus Museum of Art. They have prepared foods right here, from fancy entrees to made to to order sandwiches. They have a salad bar and a hot food bar as well. I happen to be there on Tuesday for Taco Tuesday. Theres a great wine selection thats pretty decent. Not very big but what they do have is a quality offering. Fresh baked goods are also available and aisles of gourmet product offerings! Convenient for me as its only a 5 minute walk from the office and I can go there for lunch. They do have a small parking lot that fits about 12 cars though.

Prior to Hills... downtown was a complete food desert. Yeah the prices are higher, and the options for produce are thin, but they sell what people will buy. The fact is, Hills is trying to please lunchtime workers, downtown residents, and college students at CCAD and CSCC. In other words, you arent going please everyone all the time. Like Trader Joes, Hills is a friendly and pleasant environment, and thats not easy in a downtown area. Also... Ive been to Hills 100s of times over the years, and I have never seen a staff person treat anyone poorly, in spite of the fact that it can a challenging job. Oh, and by the way... the wine selection is GREAT.

I ate a wonderful noontime meal recently [9-26-2019] at The Hills Market Downtown.A nearby restaurant in that neighborhood [where I had been intending to eat] had been extremely crowded and there had been a long wait. Moments after I had decided to leave and eat elsewhere, it just happened that a friend who had already been eating there saw me leaving and recommended that I eat instead at The Hills Market Downtown [just around the corner].So I walked to The Hills Market Downtown and wandered around, for the next several minutes, a business that clearly is a grocery store [and not a restaurant]. I eventually found wrapped-up submarine sandwiches [that I briefly examined] and then, moments later, a salad bar and a hot bar.I filled up my cardboard box with several different types of hot and cold food, stood for several minutes in a twenty-person-long line [that actually moved quickly because there had been three cashiers] and then sat down and ate my food.I am very glad that the combination of events that day had caused me to eat at The Hills Market Downtown. The food had been home-cooked in quality and therefore had been extremely delicious. Particularly delicious [their food changes each day] had been the meatloaf, the au gratin potatoes, and the macaroni salad [there had been five different flavors of macaroni salad].I had been eating at The Hills Market Downtown during the traditional lunch hour [12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m.]. Many of the customers there had been wearing employee ID badges from nearby businesses and-or hospital scrubs clothing from nearby hospitals that had informed me that they work in the nearby area.I now know that The Hills Market Downtown is an extremely popular place that serves delicious food.

They have a racist employee who followed my boyfriend and I around the store today. Its really sad when you go into an establishment to simply purchase items to complete your dinner, and because of the color of your skin someone feels the need to harass you. As dissatisfied as I always am while leaving this store- the last interaction I had with a cashier was enough to get me to right this review. While checking out I asked the cashier if they had any student discounts, and was told yes to which I replied that I didnt have my ID with me. Normally, I would be fine with waiting the get the discount until the next time I was carrying my ID, but before I even had the chance to express that the cashier informed me rudely that he wouldnt be giving me the discount because the manager says it is store policy to not trust young people. ....As a young professional, Ive got a couple of feelings on that. This grocery store is nothing more than a glorified convenience store and the only reason they customers come here, despite their puny and overpriced selection, is because they are located next to an art school and the only shop within walking distance. So if youre going to insult and deem untrustworthy the same young people who are keeping you in business you better be able to back that up with good product. The same liter of soda you can get here for $3, you can purchase at Kroger for $1. A box of cereal is going to be about 60% more. They have like 3 different types of vegetables here, which is honestly just gross. It is a nightmare. Here are some recommendations if you would like to spend your hard earned money at a place that would appreciate your business.Grocery stores nearby:Kroger (1.7 miles from the Hills)150 W Sycamore St, Columbus, OH 43215Wine and Beer nearby:Corner Stone Craft Beer & Wine (0.7 miles from the Hills)61 Parsons Ave, Columbus, OH 43215

I have been to this establishment three times and I just love it!! The staff are friendly and helpful. They are very welcoming to us each time. I purchased some fruit for myself and pizza for my son. We enjoyed our special finds. There was a deli, a fresh salad bar with another food bar across from it, and a wine area where a person could sit and enjoy a glass of wine at their cute little bar. They had a section where you could purchase prepared foods and drinks, and then, of course there was the regular part of a grocery store. This place also had a bakery section with the most divine treats to eat!! I was hopelessly in love with this store. So whenever I am in the area, I must stop in!!

I used to go there 4 out of 5 days of the week for breakfast but since June 2019 the scrambled eggs in the breakfast bar are sitting in moldy algae bloom water. Grossest taste I have ever experienced in my life. Before this date, the eggs were scrambled well and not sitting in an inch of water. So, now I go elsewhere. Weird since the eggs come in a huge bag precooked and all they have to do is pour the eggs into a pan after being in boiling water for ten minutes for heat up. Makes me think they dont dry the bag before opening and pouring. Very gross.

I was quite surprised by the negative reviews here. The Hills has recently become one of my favorite stores to shop at. I learned about them through a wine tasting that Facebook/Eventbrite recommended to me and have been back several times since. I will say that yes, if you’re trying to use them as your everyday grocery store you may find yourself disappointed by the prices and selection. I personally only go there when I want something I know my local Kroger doesn’t carry... Polar seltzer, a wonderful wine selection, prepared foods, local cheeses, an amazing bakery... they even have a dispense-your-own Crimson Cup tea section which I’ve never seen anything like before. I have too much tea right now but I’ll definitely be trying it out once that changes! Staff has always been friendly to me, so the reviews saying they are rude and don’t trust young people really don’t line up with my experience there - despite being a “young person” myself. And the one saying they were ignored at the deli counter... there have been times where I feel bad because an employee comes over to see how they can help me when I’m just wandering around looking at their selection while sipping my wine during a tasting. So please don’t think that reviewer’s experience is what happens all the time. Not sure if they just have issues with consistency or if things have improved over the past year or two, but regardless my experiences at the Hills over the past couple months have always been 5-star worthy. Bottom line is, you may not want this to be your go-to store for all your daily needs. But definitely stop in to check out the other things they offer (especially if you like craft beers/ciders, a great wine selection, local products, or an excellent bakery), because you might be very pleasantly surprised.

I mean. If you dont go there looking for anything in particular you might find something that looks good. Maybe. I live a few blocks away and four times have gone and left empty handed. Usually its because I want something totally reasonable (like shredded cheese other than mozzarella) and they just dont have it. Whoever stocks this store doesnt stock in such a way that you could actually treat it as your go-to grocery. Which is stupid because more and more people are moving to the area. Instead of going to Hills I have to go to the (slightly farther away) Kroger. Not because of price (because Id pay for quality/convenience), but because they simply never have what I need. But the bathrooms are great. So they have that going for them.

This is the only place within walking distance for downtown folks to shop for fresh, or any kind of food. Id be ok with their ridiculous prices if quality and service was outstanding, but sadly neither is true. Instance after instance Ive gotten produce that turned out to be rotten or molded, hot food from the bar that was actually barely luke warm - and way over priced, or today, when I stood at the deli counter waiting for someone to even say hi or notice me - they had 6 people behind the counter, with 1 waiting on a customer. Time and again Ive been disappointed. I pray someone opens a nice co-op in the downtown area!

Besides that, the area where they were serving them was tricky to locate as it was past the registers, you have to walk in and deliberately go behind the registers (unlike most mega marts where behind the register is where you walk in so having stuff there makes more sense).Besides all that, their prices are sky high! Yes yes, I know its right in the middle of downtown but the prices are about 3x what you would pay at a store like Kroger for the same stuff, and those arent far away. Simply awful. Ive been forcing myself to come here because its walkable from my apartment, but now Ill drive elsewhere. The markup on their items is ridiculous. A Del Monte can of corn is around $2.30 - I could get that for a dollar cheaper at any other store. Same for, say, cereal, which here will cost you 5, 6, 7 dollars instead of the usual 3 or 4. Their cashiers are apathetic and need some serious coaching in customer service. I once asked to have my items double bagged. The cashiers response? I was going to do that. Oh, well, excuse my impertinence. Ive repeatedly asked them to consider adding various staples to the store (like any type of potato that isnt russet), and they never do, and look somewhat confused or offended that I would ask. Finally, today I was asked if I were student or faculty, because then I could get a discount. Why, yes, at OSU! Heres my ID! Oh... awkward pause... we dont do discounts for OSU students. Seriously?!

I didnt know a review was possible but I just moved to Ohio and I fell in love with this place! I know the prices are high but I loved it being close to my apartment. Ive been in Columbus for about 2 months now doing construction and I just about shop there everyday up until today. After a long bi week of work, I needed a ton of food and lots of wine for the holiday. At least a 100 bucks worth of goods but I was stopped. The security asked me to leave claiming that I harassed and hit an employee. I was shocked! It was complete BS! He said the management wanted me to leave. The security guard of course refused to let me speak with management because Im thinking this has to be some kind of misunderstanding. I called the market on the way home and they said it was because I asked one of their female employees on a date. I did in fact ask one of the female workers on a date because she was always nice to me and I was a 5 cents short on a purchase in which she covered. I thought it was sweet of her so I asked her out. She said she had a boyfriend so, the end. I never asked her again or even bothered to mention dating her. If that makes a person feel harassed I do apologize but me personally Ill never shop there again. Not to mention the management went on to say other ladies were made uncomfortable with me saying hello beautiful or you have a nice smile As if it were every woman who worked there. It was only two of them I ever spoke to. Thats just the way I talk. I call all women beautiful. I complement every woman. I was told thats being a gentleman. Guess no one told them thats what comes with customer service. Overall I never disrespected anyone, hounded any of them for a date or spoke nasty explicit things to them to have me escorted out. I was thinking maybe its because they think Im black, who knows but Im really Cherokee Indian. None of the girls bothered to tell me to not compliment them or explain concern with a compliment which was preposterous!. I know for sure I did not do that ever time anyway. Most days were casual conversation like how is your day going how are you today kind of talk. It was totally not that serious. I was told I could never come back. Wow! Ill miss the convenience of the shop.
