I was having accuracy issues with a custom Remington 700 style rifle I built. This was for a 300 PRC with PROOF carbon fiber barrel. PROOF inspected it and could only say the barrel was fine; they suggested I take it to a gunsmith for more work and gave some recommendations for possible areas of concern. Rich took a look, quickly identified the problem and which of PROOFs recommendations were bunk. I got my rifle back quickly and at a great price. Zeroed it and instantly received consistent groups of less than 1/2 MOA. Thanks for making this problem rifle a pleasure to shoot.
I took my model 70 to two other gunsmiths in South Colorado Springs to have the safety repaired. They couldnt make the repair. I went to Rich and he fixed it and returned it ahead of the time frame for a fair price. It works great. I absolutely recommend Rich for any rifle repair you may need. Thanks
Very skilled and knowledgeable shop with high quality products.
Read all of the reviews before letting them work on your rifle. Dont trust these guys. I love Mom and Pop shops, but this guy is extremely arrogant. You can tell alot about a person by how they treat people they dont have to be nice to. Be smart with your money and your equipment, go somewhere else.
I have had several things done through Richie over the years and cannot beat the end result. The latest was a new build of 30-06 for the wife, custom length of pull to fit her perfectly. Worked with her at the range and was able to get sub .5 MOA groups with factory ammo, what a tack driver. She rocked her deer this year at 535 yards, hell of a rifle. Great work Richie!
Thanks Richie for the awesome rifle. Got a great doe at 540 yards with my 30-O6. Thanks for such a light and accurate rifle that fits me perfectly. I will always use you for my custome rifle needs, and all my friends will know to go to you as well. Thanks again!
Im so happy with how my 308 treats me after my muzzle break was put on. They are so amazing at this shop!! My husband already wants to put a muzzle break on his 3006. The BEST decision I have ever made was having High Tech custom install this for me. I can actually shoot my rifle now more then once. Lol! Highly recommend this shop. Very knowledgeable and the kind of people we like to support in our community. Thank you SO much!!!!
Rich built the most beautiful and amazingly accurate gun for my bear hunt in Canada! .270 Winchester, light weight, sized specifically for me, trigger-pull is perfect, muzzle brake, and deadly accurate for anyone who shoots the gun! My husband ONLY trusts Rich to build his guns as he is a big game hunter in Africa and his .416 was spot on when my husband shot his cape buffalo. If you need a complimentary glass of wine or massage when you enter the gun shop, this isnt the place for you. If you need a gun built that shoots through the same hole almost every time, High Tech Custom Rifles is the place to go!!!
Recently had a custom 300 Win Mag built for my first year of hunting. The gun came out amazing and shoots even better! Richie is a very talanted and knowledgeable guy! My family has known and used him for years, I would highly recommend High Tech Custom Rifles to all my friends and family.
I always thought rich came across as a little cocky and full of himself when I met him at trade shows but decided to use him anyways to thread two barrels for me. Website clearly says 75 bucks to thread.Get a call today that two rifles are ready for pickup and I owe them $200. I ask why it’s so much since the the website says $75 each and the receptionist (the one with a Mohawk and the personality of a door knob) tells me, I don’t know, that’s wrong. On top of all this, their shop is a WRECK inside. Also, if you’re going to charge a $100 a piece to thread a barrel, it better include a thread protector (they didn’t)Do your research on this place, trust ALL the horrible reviews. If you need a solid gunsmith who you can trust, call Kevin Weaver!!!! This place is an absolute joke!
Rich has worked on several of my rifles. Each one was done in a timely fashion and a reasonable price. I highly recommend this shop for your gun smithing needs.
I worked for Richie for a few years he knows what hes doing and good at it give him a try you wont be disappointed
Won a muzzle brake at a charity auction for Boy Scouts of America. I had always been curious about muzzle brakes, but having fired other rifles with brakes mounted didnt think they would be worth the money. Boy was I wrong. High Tech Customs took my .300 Win Mag and made it into a pleasure to shoot. Customer service was amazing with a quick return and the brake flat out worked! My lightweight Browning use to punish me, but now I can shoot it all day long with no sore shoulder and no flinch. My buddies were sighting in their .30-06s and .308s and were jealous after shooting my 300 because my rifle had so much less recoil than theirs. My 14 year old is happy now he can shoot the Win Mag with ease. High Tech Customs brake does exactly what they say it will do. Now Im just saving up for 2 more, I dont think Ill ever own a hunting rifle without a High Tech Custom brake.
I had a $2500 Custom Rifle built here based off a Winchester Model 70 action, I was very excited when I went to pick up the rifle and couldnt wait to take it to the range. Once I did I was only able to fire two rounds and the action completely seized up and I was not able to open the bolt, I could not even force it open. Extremely frustrated took the rifle back and Gunsmith said oh no big deal I will just machine some more metal off the bolt.....just didnt get enough the first time My question was what if I had took this rifle on a dream hunt and it didnt not work properly or needed it while hunting dangerous game, very piss poor quality, and obviously does not check for function or reliability, just takes your money and gets it out the door!! I have waited years to write this review because that was my first custom rifle and didnt want to be too critical but now having owned multiple custom rifles from REPUTABLE custom shops I truly realize how poor my experience was, please do yourself a favor and take your hard earned money elsewhere!!!
Looked like a shop that had the equipment to do what they say they do. But one of the most unprofessional and cocky experiences I have ever had. There is no way I will return or recommend them to anyone. When someone says there the best but BSs there way through a question thats an alarm. Being a gunsmith myself I like to reach out and meet other smiths. No more for this place. If I could rate them zero I would. Stay away and go to another custom shop who actually cares about the experience and product they put out.
Richie built a custom muzzle brake for my Beowulf. Nobody else in town was willing to touch it, but Richie built me an amazing muzzle brake that looks awesome. I can’t wait to test it out! Thanks Richie for the awesome service!
Brought a firearm by their shop to have a barrel threading job done. Smith did a good job of threading the barrel only to loose the break that he was threading the barrel for. Said he would replace it but after 3 weeks of going weekly to his shop to check on it he still has not ordered the part nor has he attempted to order the part. The gunsmith started to loose his temper and develop an attitude regarding me saying it had not been so long when he believed it to have been only a week.An update on this. Gunsmith may have many years of experience in tap and die, machinist work in high tolerance fields but has little to no knowledge about firearms and presumes he knows how to do a job instead of researching. Gunsmith replaced part after 4 weeks of waiting and it turns out he threaded the barrel incorrectly for the type of mount that was to be used.Boy am I glad i checked. I look through mount with suppressor on it and it turns out that he didnt even thread it straight and if I had fired the gun I would have blown up my can and possible myself.
Does not carry ammo. Kind folks that pointed me in the right direction. Thank you guys.
Horrible Horrible Horrible service this is the most unprofessional company I have ever done business with in 41 years. I took my gun in for a standard dust cover replacement he told me it would be 3 days to complete. Well that turned into two weeks. I called and asked was it finished the lady that answered his phones say no and he had not even started on it yet. May I add this was the day to pick up, only to find that he had not started. Then I ask when will he be done and this was on a weds. She stated they were closed on Thursday and he is a one man shop and he would not return until the next weds. I explained to his rep that this was UN professional to give me a date of completion, move it until the next weds and at this point he tells me he could not fix it. He also said that I was rude to his worker he was not fixing anything and to come pick up my gun. I explained if telling her that their service was not professional counts as being rude then whatever. He does not know what he is doing he calls himself a gunsmith that cant cut to size a dust cover. If he has trouble with this I would sure hate to have him repairing my gun it may not work if you ever needed it. Small low budget lazy mom and pop company with poor customer service. Dont tell them you are unhappy with anything his Secretary will lie and say you mistreated her and he will give you worse service than you were going to get in the first place.
I moved to Colorado Springs from Montana and had difficulty finding someone who knew what they were doing with firearms. Richie is knowledable about guns from the African calibers to the big bears and Moose in Alaska where he guided for years. His shop might seem a little disorganized to some, but so does my desk at work. He knows where everything is and is the only gunsmith I let touch my equipment.
I had a glass bed job done a few years ago and while the work was adequate it was not done neatly. There was glaring material on my stock. I also felt like the customer service was arrogant and unnecessarily cocky. Just not a great experience though the work they did on my gun was adequate. The trigger job they did was phenomenal and I love the trigger on my gun.
This is the shop for quality work, fair value and honest service. Great communication from all the staff. My husband has used Rich for gun work for 20+ years, from tweeking the plinkers to fine-tuning our hunting rifles. He would not keep coming back if not 100% happy with the results. We have had several rifles fitted with brakes, trigger work done, and glass bedding too. Quality gunwork takes time and precision, dont wait till the last minute. Get it in there and get in line, it is not an in-&-out process. Campbell & Elaine King
I brought a really old gun in to be repaired. They had to order a part but returned it to me within a week. I would definitely go back.
Had my 30/06 fixed by them and a muzzle break added to my rifle so far every time I shoot it, it is dead accurate and the recoil is not as bad as before.
Richie customized a couple of my hunting rifles, did a great job for a great price!! Definitely will be coming back!!
Fantastic service, Rich has been more then helpful! Had him build a muzzle brake for my Tikka 300 WSM I am now shooting half MOA major reduction in felt recoil! I fully plan on getting an HTC brake on any new high powered rifle I purchase in the future.
Honest, quick quality work, fair price.
Bad experience stay clear you have been warned
