I always enjoy stopping by. This place has that local home town feeling. The staff is very knowledgeable about what they are selling. Definitely not like the big cooperate companies. I always refer people to this place. I will continue to give them my business. ππ½ππ½
Great local gun store. Barry is very knowledgeable and willing to help anytime. Great gunsmith services and used guns selection. Beware, gets very crowded. Great store.
Dont waste your time! Took a rifle in for ejection issues mid-May. Checked back mid-June and the counter help said they couldnt fix it and was sending it back to manufacturer. Late June, checked with manufacturer and they reported not having it. Went back early July and nobody was there that could tell me when it was shipped and blamed delay on slow manufacturer turn around. Went back mid-July and spoke to owners wife, who is in charge of shipping. Said it was in the back, packaged for shipping. So, it takes 2 months to have it shipped? Got it back and will take it to someone who knows customer service and staff that doesnt lie about where a gun is. I wont darken their door again.
The one star is for convenience of location only. With the risk of never needing any thing worked on again, and really hating to give this review, here it goes. I took a rifle and scope in to have mounted and bore sighted. I put everything on, even having to take the barrel assembly out and back in. All that I asked was to locktight the bolts and boresight. After letting the locktight set up two days, I went to the gun range. After a box of shells, the two bolts that hold the picatinny rail, are loose and caused all of my ammo shot, to be for nothing. Now I have to start all over. Not to mention my time. The day that I picked it up from them, I took a pistol to be cleaned. The owner told me $45. He walks away and the person doing the paperwork said $55 and said that it may need extra cleaning π€OK, Ill accept that. I went to pick the gun up and they have charged me for a $20 part. They said it was difficult to take apart and put back together without it, because it was already broke. Personally I think that they broke it trying to take it apart. The owner even admitted that it could be difficult to take apart. I never have had it done before. So my quoted 45$ then $55 is now $91 after tax.I pulled the owner aside, as a courtesy to him, and explained to him about the rifle issue and his words were, Im sorry, I didnt know about those. (Seriously!! How can you not know about them?)Well, I said maybe pay for the box of shells I wasted, he said, Im sorry. I then asked if he could take $20 off of the pistol cleaning, he replied, Im sorry. To make matters worse, they didnt clean the magazine! There was still burnt powder residue in it.Maybe he was raised where saying youre sorry makes everything OK. I expected a lot more from an Eagle Scout. Maybe the Scout Law about being trustworthy was overlooked or didnt mean anything. I remember his Dad being much more fair and personable. It saddens me that out of all of the years that I have dealt with them, even from the early beginning in Hearne, that this has to happen.
Used to be super happy with this place when I lived in College Station and I shopped and got gunsmithing work there for years, but customer service went way down hill apparently.I took a Mauser I had to Burnett last year, even though Iβve lived in DFW for 5 years now. I walked in, saw the owner and offered my hand as I pulled my mask down to smile and say βBeen a few years, Barry. Good to see you!β The reply was an unsmiling nod followed by βWell we donβt shake hands here anymore, but we do wear our masksβ. Great Texan startI continued on, saying that I just wanted a Scout rail mounted on my Mauser and he said that wouldnβt be a problem, told me theyβd call me when they found the parts.8 months later, I called and spoke to someone asking about the rifle. They said theyβd check and cal back, but never did.after 9 months, I was back in CS for the day and called to check statusβ¦.I was literally told that would take too long to check on, and when I asked if they could just call me back in a couple hours to let me know the guy said probably not, just call back tomorrow. I was fed up at this point, so I told him I was in town for one day and wanted to know what was up with my rifle. He sighed and putme on hold for about 10 minutes, and when he came back he said nothing had been done, it was just in a corner. I went and picked it up that day. Probably wonβt be back, sadly.Maybe gunsmiths have to deal with a lot of demanding people with unreasonable expectations, but it seems everywhere I go, they just all become the same disgruntled tradesmen that hate dealing with people haha. DFW is full of them
Not the best selection around, but very helpful.
These guys and gals are non stop. They take the time and effort to receive, log and then notify you for transfers. Thats not a big sale but they treat you no different and are professional and customer service driven. I do appreciate them and their organization during these crazy times to help obtaining what you cannot get in this town. Thanks!!
I have never before visited and today I was impressed with the way they handled the customer service during the pandemic.Im happy to have my gun left in order to have the professional gunsmith work on my rifle and I will be back in the woods again in a relatively short time.Stress free.Good amount price on the shells I need.
My husband saw a gun he knew I would like. He wanted me to have it for my birthday. He could not surprise me with it as we just recently moved to Texas. (I have my Texas drivers license... he is in the process of getting his.) I would have to purchase the gun myself. He called to find out more about the gun for me. They said because he was asking the questions (for me) and made the call I could not purchase the gun. Does not seem like they want my business now or his in the future. So what .... if I went in with him and I was purchasing a gun if he opened his mouth and asked any questions or made any kind of comment I could not buy a gun? I will not give them my business in the future.
Always had good experiences in this shop. Would gladly purchase from them again. All of the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Even during an election year they have good prices. 10/10 would shop again.
Burdett and Son really helped me out! Finding a firearm right now is quite a challenge but they went above and beyond to get me one! They even shipped to a local shop in a very timely fashion so I wasnβt waiting long! Will definitely be buying more items here as their prices are great and their staff is wonderful.
Bought first gun here and everyone was very helpful.
Five stars for five star folk.
Great gun shop. Staff is very friendly and service prices are reasonable. Did an FFL transfer and some sight/optic installations here, and every time was a pleasure. They are also covid safe. There is a line where your name is recorded. You can then wait in your car if you prefer, which most do thanks to weather conditions.
Always have had good experience with Burdett and Son. Ive had good luck with their gunsmithing work and dont have any complaints. Theyve always kept fair prices, even through this ammo shortage. Been very busy lately, but overall a great place to shop at.
Great store, but sadly they are basically getting blocked by all social media.
Have a pistol that they restored to functional condition. Cylinder came out in my hand when i went to reload the FIRST time. Only contact has been initiated by me. Keep getting told we cant find the cylinder spring for your pistol when i call. Gave them $400 for restoration and functionality test. They have not attempted one time to make it right. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY. Would give zero stars but it wouldnt let me
Have usually had an overall good experience at Burdett & Sons. They have a good selection and always keep good stock especially in the ammo cabinet. Their prices tend to be slightly higher than big-box or Amazon on most things, but the gear they have is top knotch. I have noticed that certain loads are almost 30% higher than at academy and I dont like paying range prices if I can help it.
Very friendly staff, their operation is very tailored around their customers. Every time Ive been in the store, theyve been friendly and helpful to everyone on there. While I used them for a transfer this time around, theyre likely to get my direct business next time around. Glad to see some standalone, mom & pop style shops still making it.
Wait time to get in, about an hour... didnt get a chance to see inventory. Nice employee, though.
Great gun store, very knowledgeable, great prices. One gun store that still carrys Goex Black powder and supplies.
Love my new rifle!! Was finally able to get what I was in market for! Thanks burdett and son!! Great folks there! :)
I have been to this store many times over the years and have never had a bad visit. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. My next must have will be ordered through (if not in stock) through this establishment. Well done, you folks are doing it right!!
Thank you for being so hands on and helpful! Itβs truly a blessing to find people that know their business and want to make sure you are completely satisfied with your purchase. Truly thankful for all your expertise in firearms.
Always excellent service!
Donβt quite know how they expect any working class customer to get in there within their hours. Donβt open until 9:30 and close at 2 all week, closed Sunday? Come on dude. Some of us work 6 days a week.
After going in for a smaller compact gun, i was set on a glock being that im a glock guy, BUT i was shown a sig p365 and i fell in love, i enjoyed the friendly staff and actually having guys who know what theyβre talking about ππ» HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Good mom and pop place. It is more geared towards guns and accessories, boys scouts, and some tactical/ outdoor clothing. So itβs really not an adventure shop. They employees make up for what might be lacking in its name.
Best lil gun shop in Texas
This has been BY FAR my worst shopping experience ever. This is the second time Ive walked in and got pretty much the same treatment. Today I decided to purchase a new sling for my rifle. Academy doesnt have a nice variety and I didnt want to order one online. I walk in and the lady behind the counter didnt speak or acknowledge me. None of the staff spoke. Not feeling welcomed there, I decided not to look around and just pick up my sling and leave. I stood there about 10 minutes picking out a rifle sling and some nice attachment accessories that I may need. Once I found the items, I walked up to the counter and realized the cashier lady had walked off. I stood at the counter about 5 minutes and none of the other staff said anything. No one said someone will be with you in a moment or anything. About 2 more minutes go by and I just left the items on the counter. I refuse to spend money at a place where I cant even get someone to acknowledge me. I prefer to spend money locally opposed to shopping online but with piss poor customer service like this, I cant wait this store is swallowed up by an e-commerce store.
Ammo price isnt too bad.
Not very welcoming. We came in and no one acknowledged us. I felt uneasy like we were bothering them. The guns they showed us were overpriced and had chips on them. The gun we wanted was sold to us for half the price at College Station Pawn Shop, brand new. Please spend your money elsewhere. If you want to be ignored, this is the place for you.
Best in the BCS area. They have a large selection of new and used firearms, and an extremely knowledgeable staff to help you make a decision. I have both purchased and had guns transferred to this store, and unlike other shops, they seem eager to please regardless of the transaction type. They have some great ceracote work on display, and Iβve been well satisfied any time Iβve needed gunsmith work. A real class act!
Great Customer service. Very helpful when I was getting into Black powder rifle shooting. Very Knowledgeable on firearms and accessories as well as a full line of Gunsmithing services.
Barry Burdett and his family have an excellent store and are great people to know and work with for sporting goods and firearms. I go by their store every time I am in College Station, for something or another. I would recommend any Brazos Valley area resident to visit Burdett and Sons- you wont regret it.
My experience with Burdett & Son was fantastic. Over the past few years I have gone in there and bought a few things, but this time I needed their gun smithing services. I was in the process of building a AR and my new barrel nut that goes with my free float did not fit over the contour of my new barrel. Instead having to deal with the manufacture I decided to see if they could machine it for me. I walked in shortly before closing on a Thursday and asked to see if they could do it. Barry with no problems said for sure and gave me options. Once I decided on the option he told me it might be up to a week to get done. I got a call that following Monday telling me it was complete. I picked it up Tuesday and it was done perfectly. I was extremely happy with them, and how fast they were able to get it done. I will defiantly be going back there if I need something else done.
Excellent Customer service! Iβm not a gun person but my husband and son are this is the place to go if you need a gun! Quick FFL services as well!
I go to B&S for reloading supplies. They arent the cheapest in town for guns, but do have stocks of powder and ammo. If you need .22lr, this is the place to be.I like the relaxed atmosphere and the fact it is really close to my work. I can understand some of the B&M price added on, so its not that big of a deal. They have a good selection of stuff generally.Their reloading section needs more variety in the 9mm/380 pistol variety. Granted, reloading is bigger for rifles. I can still get 115gr pistol bullets for reasonable price, but it would be nice to have a better variety (Berrys Bullets and other lower cost alternatives). Also, they may have one press, but being RCBS its not economical for being the only thing there. I would recommend more Lee products (especially presses).
Just had some gunsmith work done. Fast and reasonable prices. Thanks to all the guys helping me out in the shop. I have had exceptionally great work done here before. I will continue to come back.
Highly incompetent gunsmith. Completely ruined my firearm. Will be making the drive to Houston for my gunsmithing needs. DO NOT USE THEIR GUNSMITHING SERVICES.
This is an excellent company! Their staff is great to work with and they are very knowledgeable and helpful.
I had Barry thread a rifle for a muzzle device had purchased. He did the work and returned my rifle with exactly what I asked for. The machine work was excellent and the brake is perfectly centered. Its scary to let someone cut on your rifle but I am completely satisfied with the work, turnaround, and price.
Ive had two things done by these guys. Cleaning a shotgun, and CeraCoating a shotgun. The cleaning took 2 weeks, I didnt care because it wasnt in hunting season. The coating was in October, they said it would take 4-6weeks. So by the first split of duck season. Duck season is nearly over and I still do not have my gun back. I. All them every day and they have some excuse as to why its not done. Will not go back.
Have been going to this business for years now for all things guns/gunsmithing. Barry and his employees are quick to help their customers and provide quality gunsmithing.
I have had gun-smithing done, bought firearms and accessories. These are great folks and I recommend them to everyone.
I needed a special rifle, and they had it. Small shop but everyone was nice and knowledge. Their prices seemed very good too.
Love this store. Glad they are here. Bought two Class-2 items from them. They make it so easy.
Everything you need to camp or be homeless in comfort and obvious style
Old fashioned outdoor shop, just like my dad used to take me to when I was a kid. They have a lot more options than their website indicates, so just ask they can probably take care of you.
THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE WORST SHOPS I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! One lady extreamly disrespectful, treated me as if I knew nothing about what I was talking about, took me three separate trips to them to make sure all of the parts I have them were done right! Horrible quality and Horrible gunsmithing skills. I would NEVER go to this establishment again! Extremely disappointing!!! If I could give it 0 Stars I would!!!!
Every question I had was answered well, and I had a lot of questions. Really great service, owner is very friendly, couldnt ask for a better experience!
Friendly staff! Service can sometimes be kinda slow, but only because they have so many regulars that chat with the staff behind the counter. These people build a relationship with their customers and thats nice to see.
My buddy took a shotgun to them in October to get cerakoted and they quoted him $220 and it would be ready by December. Well come January he had to go to Germany so he asked me to get the gun when it was ready. I called them over and over and they always had a different story or someone wasnt there to do put it together until April when they finally said it wasnt done at all. I called again in April and they said a couple days. On May 15th they finally said it was done and ready. The final price was $265. I would never recommend this place or trust my firearms to them. Huge disappointment.
I took my Remington 1100 to be repaired and they were two weeks over the scheduled completion. Staff may or may not be friendly, depends on the day. The selection is good, no doubt, but not sure if its worth it.
Very competitive pricing on most things
Ive recently done 2 FFL transfers through the store. It was very painless and the staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful.
Ive been dealing with the folks at Burdett for the past 4-5 years at least...always friendly and courteous, good selection of modern gear, and a slways willing to order in what you need. Theyve been my FFL for all the online transfers Ive bought over the years.
I always love standing at the counter for 20 minutes waiting to look at a knife in the display case, while half the staff stands around the gun bar discussing baseball or whatever the topic of the hour currently was. Iβll drive an hour to Houston before I take my business here again.
Burdett & Son is one of the best places in town for all your firearm related needs. One of the few places in town with a quality gun smith and a very friendly staff.
Terrible customer service. Feels like a pawn shop, very trashy. Much better gun stores in town than this one.
Awesome store was able to fix a pistol another gunsmith said he couldnt get parts for.
Got my gun cerakoted here and the first time they messed it up, they re did it for free but this time there are lumps and it is uneven. Not worth the money, take your gun somewhere else.UPDATE: Over a year later learned that they did not remove the fist layer when they re did it they left moisture and dirt under the CERAKOTE, it was rusting under the PAINT!!!! DO NOT GET YOUR GUN CERAKOTED HERE!
Awesome place with super friendly and helpful staff. Great prices and locally owned.
I have to agree with the rest of these reviews; terrible gunsmithing. Very little knowledge, under informed me on how to take care of my weapon, and were arrogant.
I like Burdetts they are very nice people and they are very helpful when purchasing a new gun or any accessory that they have in stock. That is another thing they stock a lot of gun parts for AR-15 builds and for reloading. I also like their collection of knives and i genuinely enjoy the people working there. But because of their gunsmithing services i have to give it a 1 star. what would have been a 5 star rating was completely over turned by the horrific things that have been done to my guns that i have taken there. I will continue to purchase guns or accessories from them but never again will i use their gunsmithing services. Im not telling people to not buy from them, because they are a very good store, just very bad at gunsmithing. I hesitated writing this review for a long time, but i only feel it is the right thing to warn others before taking your gun that you spent your hard earned money on to get worked on by them. In the end its my fault for continuing to try to use their gunsmithing service hoping that things would change over time.
Good service and great work if you need gunsmithing services.
Fine if you want to purchase a firearm/accessories. Look elsewhere for a gunsmith.
Incredibly friendly and they know their stuff. Plus their prices are the lowest in town!
Went to Burdett & Sons for the first time to find out about a pre 1900 revolver but they wouldnt offer much advice. I then looked around the store just killing time and an older lady asked if I needed any help and I said no just looking. She then walked away and quoted Theyre coming in like groves today. Wonder if they got any money. I was very offended and left the store and will never return.
Always helpful
Really a great place
Great service!
Good but over priced
Quick and friendly service.
Good service
