Hired them to replace my siding and gutters and love the turn out. They were upfront about the timing and completion of the job, and when I had a few questions or issues with what was going on, they made sure to get people out and fix it. The team that worked on my house were also very personable and hard workers. I had a certain size and type of siding and look I wanted and they were able to install a new product and it looks awesome and exactly what I wanted.
Had Murphy Home Improvement do a window install of 19 windows in our old home. His contractors were professional and had them installed and cleaned up in 2 days. A while later they installed a steel core door in a custom opening that others refused to even attempt. Great work always done to my satisfaction for the pricing quoted at start of the project. You can’t ask for more.
The actual workman went above and beyond doing a job they should have sent 3 people out to do. Because of a size discrepancy the owner failed to account for when originally measuring, there was a molding gap that the workman told us he would come out later in the week to patch with carved wood. Then, they fired him. And we were stuck with foam in holes in the wall and destroyed plaster which took nagging the office from May until December when they finally, grudgingly, came back out to finish/correct the holes that snow was now blowing in through. Attached are photos of the *fine craftsmanship* of the finished work as done by the owner.
We placed an order for a custom storm door in November of 2019. They advised us that it would take approx 12 weeks. We put down a 50% deposit and waited. After 12 weeks I called the office to check in on the time frame and they acted confused. The office manager had to contact the sales person to check and we found out that the “order was misplaced and never received” by the manufacturer. So now we had to begin the 12 weeks waiting period again ( why had the sales person not checked with the manufacturer in those 1st 12 weeks?) so again we wait. Of course due to covid it took a lot longer than 12 weeks. So I finally get an email in June telling me that the door would be ready in about 2 weeks. We got an installation date of 7/9/2020. On the day of installation they seemed to be having trouble placing the doorbell button due to not wanting to drill into the new door. They worked on this for quite a while and at the end of the day when I looked at the completed project I noticed a new cheap plastic doorbell button was installed in place of the original ornate lighted button. I asked where the original button was and they stated that they had thrown it away. I asked for it back and they retrieved it from the garbage. After the installation of the door we noticed that the doorbell did not work. We called the office and mentioned this and they stated that it didn’t work when they got there. This is not true, it has been used almost daily until they began. My husband took the doorbell apart to discover that the doorbell piston had seized up due to overheating caused by the wires being crossed for an extended period of time . We confirmed this with an electrician and sent an email and pictures to support. The reply we were given was that they did not cause this and that the door bell had never worked. We paid and enormous amount of money for a custom door and waited a ridiculous amount of time, all to be called liars over a $150.00 doorbell. We expressed our concern again to this reply and have heard nothing “crickets”
We contracted them for a replacement front awning and windows in 2016 - the contractor came out to do all the measurements, we were told things were on backorder and it would be several months (I believe we started this process in Feb) and every time we called for an update, the date was farther out. Then, when the widows arrived, they were the incorrect size and the wrong brand wed agreed on. Thankfully they didnt charge us for the one more expensive window as it was their mistake in measurements and ordering. Then the awning over our front door (which we ordered at the same time) ended up being the incorrect size after it was installed so much so that we couldnt open our screen door to exit the front of the house. We had to wait AGAIN to get this completed correctly, through all of this we were waiting to list our house during all the extended delays and cost us quite a bit since we had to list the house about 4 months later than we intended.
Murphy came highly recommended by a re-modeler buddy of mine. Work was reviewed in March and based on my timeline needs of completion by mid-may we approved Murphy to do the job. I cancelled the order on June 21 after repeated statements that they would get to it within a few days. This lack of any execution and communication led, out of frustration and drawn out need, to the cancellation. They might do great work but they never showed up. They might do great work but dont even remotely count on a schedule being kept.Tom did recommend Dan Hesse to replace clouded windows and that work by Hesse was done promptly at a very competitive rate.
I hired Murphy to replace the roof, as well as remove and install new gutters on my house. The estimates Murphy provided were fair and reasonable in regards to other competitors bids. Murphy arrived on time and completed all of the work in a quality and timely manner. I would definitely work with them again and recommend them to anyone seeking home improvement work to be done!
Murphy replaced some of our windows on two occasions and did not have a problem. They did fine. When we contracted with them to do the wood window trim is when the problem started. We were instructed by the Murphy salesperson to pay their trim carpenter in cash - which we did. The carpenter wasnt finished with the job but never showed back up and apparently ran away with the money we paid him. Murphy wanted us to track him down to get the money. The went after him themselves eventually but wanted additional money from us to finish the job. I never agreed to pay more money to finish. One-year later they finally finished the work but sent me a bill anyway. After stating that we were already paid in full we received an email saying pay the bill or face legal action. We were treated very unprofessionally.
NIGHTMARE! LIES, SHODDY WORK. CONTANT ADDITIONS TO INITIAL QUOTE. NO CALL, NO SHOWS. They sent a crew out, 5 weeks after they said they would, tore the roof completely off my historic home, and only put back part of it. Left it open to the elements for a month! I have to replace the drywall in the living room as a result. I have remodeled several homes and dealt with many contractors. Murphy was the worst. I wanted a contractor with experience in restoring historic homes. I did my homework, I checked reviews, how many years in business, the works, and I was still taken in by Tom Murphy. Dont believe a word he tells you. I fired him and got another contractor. The new contractor is great. Save yourself much undo stress, stay away from Murphy.
Tom Murphy is one of the most decent & honest men in the home improvement business, and He employs some of the best Craftsman in the city. They do what they say theyre going to do, & for the price they quote, with no surprises.I would recommend Murphy Home Improvements to anyone for any project you have.
Great place to get roofing and siding and windows and doors but we do it all
Horrible to deal with. Without a doubt one of the worst companies Ive dealt with in the Tri State area.
