The food was good and the pasta is genuinely made well and cooked well. The food feels authentic to Italian cuisine. However, I took half a star off because I think the food is a bit too pricey for the quality you get in terms of location and experience. I took off another half star because I think the tables are way too close together, preventing cohesive conversation.

My wife and I were visiting Chicago, checking out or old neighborhood from when we were hip urbanites…when we stumbled on Tortello. We wished that Tortello would have been around when we were Ukrainian Village residents! There are countless Italian restaurants in Chicago…but I could count on one hand the number of Chicago restaurants that make food as it is prepared in Italy, as opposed to Italian-American food. No offense to Italian American food; it can also be outstanding. It’s just a different thing.Tortello is the real deal. Best pasta I’ve had outside of Italy. The owner (from Venice) is gregarious, knowledgeable, and most importantly is extremely passionate about his food. Also, he was kind enough to listen to me talk about my travels in Italy and the neighboring countries without acting annoyed. That’s a major bonus in my book.I cannot recommend this place more highly.

In a city with tons of options for Italian food, Tortello is my favorite. Ive enjoyed every dining experience here. Their pasta is unique and delicious. It is firm, but not so firm that it is hard to chew but just enough so that you feel the texture. Honestly, I did not know pasta could taste like this before eating here. Portions are on the small side so make sure you order a lot.

The food is phenomenal but the speed of getting out the food isn’t great hence a deduction in a star.I had the fennel citrus salad and the Ragu pasta. The pasta is phenomenal as it is homemade. I would love to do take home next time. The restaurant had difficulty getting one ticket out ALL together. So like half of items would come and we’d wait and wait and see other people get food. And then the other half of the items would come out. This happened with salads and entrees. They did make a dietary swap got one of the items and that’s appreciated. But, our table was incredible wobbly and didn’t actually accommodate 3 people comfortable. I was slammed up against a planter.Food: 4/5Atmosphere: 3/5Service: 3/5

I adore the pasta here. It’s all fresh, made in house, and they even sell it for you to take home and cook at home (along with other Italian food items). Their signature burrata tortelli pasta dish is beyond anything I’ve ever had. It’s so good that I hate to say, I’ve not ordered anything else there lol. But I’ve tried other peoples dishes and nothing has disappointed. Outdoor patio is so perfect, feels a little European, and the staff is always genuinely nice. Happy to support this local business!

We ordered a chef’s special dinner for 2 and then a few pasta dishes on the side including the beef ragu. The entire meal was delicious and wonderful. I do think the portions are small by American standards but we prefer quality over quantity so we were fine with that. The pasta textures were perfect, the focaccia with whipped ricotta was to die for and the eggplant salad was a perfect balance of bitter greens and sweet marinated eggplant. Can’t wait to eat here again.

Wow molto delizioso...Im salivating already thinking about the Spaghetti Stracciatella (my favorite), Tagliatelle Tina, and the Tiramisu. The freshness and the flavors intoxicate you. My wife and I love coming here. This is the spot to go on a date, with your significant other, or by yourself. I havent found another Italian restaurant in Chicago that has such bold, authentic Northern Italian flavors. The ambience is beautiful, the service is top notch, and the food is unbelievable. The owner and chef Dario treats everyone like family. It makes sense as the food you are eating feels like a home cooked meal. Only its a meal that transports you to a bistro in Venice with music in the air. Theres no reservations and it gets packed, so arrive early, grab a bottle of wine, and eat everything! You see this?! Exactly, it’s a plate. An empty plate and a full stomach!! They say actions speak louder than words and as you can see there’s a lot of action here. Focaccia Ricotta & honey was my appetizer. An edible from the heavens brought to earth. Focaccia bread is crunchy and baked fresh, it almost feels like your eating a puffy soft cloud. Honey is very sweet and punching a flavor to your tastebuds, simply sensational. Taste I have never tasted in my years of living. And now I wait for my chiusoni pasta. I can’t simply wait. This was my first time here. They have an interesting selection of beverages. We tried the Italian sparkling soda. They were ok, they had a strong flavor. We did the focaccia with ricotta and honey and oh my god! It was so delicious!!! Full of flavor with every bite. The pastas were also very delicious. We tried the tortelini burrata and the tagliatelle. The tortelini was very rich in flavor. Our favorite was the tagliatelle. The prices are on the higher side and the portions are small. We spent around 80 dollars. Overall, it was a fun experience.

Their menu is simple and offer 5 or 6 different main dishes with appetizers and drinks as well. Order at the counter and theyll bring it out to you wherever you sit(inside or their patio). The sauces arent overpowering as the noodle is the signature piece - tortelli is incredible and plated really nicely. Happy medium between fast casual and sit down - everything is made fresh

Update: 8 months after writing this review, I find myself going back to Tortello over and over again. Ive read some complaints about the price being too high for Italian pasta. My responses is this: you get what you pay for. The owner Dario uses the freshest and highest quality ingredients to make the dishes. You can taste the difference the way you feel after you have a meal there. Also, I love that they rotate their menu based on whats fresh / in-season at that time. Through foods like this, I can travel to Italy without leaving home. Grazie mille Dario! What is the secret to making great pasta? A great pasta! Often times so much of focus goes to making a great sauce for your pasta that you forget the main ingredient: the pasta!!! This gem of a place in Chicago does just that. Making fresh pasta daily using quality imported semolina flour from Italy, fresh organic eggs from a local farm up in Wisconsin and water. That’s all the ingredients you need and the results are fantastic! In my previous post, I made stop at Tortello just to check out their production. I’m a skeptic like that. I’ve had so many pasta dishes in the US. Many will boast of theirs being authentic but often times I leave disappointed in their quality and in execution. So before trying it out, I decided to make an inspection first. When I walked in, I met the owner Dario Nonni who greeted me at the door and we had a brief conversation about his place. From what I saw, I was impressed so I decided to come back another day to give this place a try.Second time around, we went into throw down and ordered the following:Focaccia w/ ricotta & honey, fennel, celery & orange salad, tortelli, cacio e pepe and Zucchini “pasta” w/ grass-fed beef ragú. All the pastas were excellent. Their tortelli One dish to point out: their cacio e pepe was one of the closest I had outside of Rome and I love how they kept it simple (good bucatini style pasta, imported aged pecorino cheese and fresh pepper) - just like how that dish is suppose to be. Complimenti Dario! For dessert we got their classic tiramisu. This is the one that I anticipated the most. If you know the history of this dessert, it originated from a town called Treviso, about 30km north of Venezia. Since Dario is from Venice, I expected him to keep the recipe as close to the traditional one as possible. Thankfully he did. Aside from couple of very minor critiques, I can say that their tiramisu is probably the best one I’ve had in Chicago and made/taste the way how Tiramisu is suppose to be! Bravo Cuoco!I wanted to talk and thank Dario & Jill in person after this wonderful experience. Unfortunately they were not in that day but I was more impressed because of their absence because their staff provided excellent service and the chef also trained his staff to keep the dishes consistent which I found out recently from my other visits to restaurants that it is not an easy task to do. Because of this, Tortello Pasta gets my #kkapproved hashtag. Auguri Tortello e ci vediamo alla prossima!Disclaimer: I do not have any experience in food & restaurant industry nor have any training in culinary school. My only credential is that I know lot of chefs and I may have had more pasta / Italian food (both locally and all across Italy) than your average Italian.

After craving cacio e pepe for dayyyss, it was IN-sane!! Like, so insane that after I scarfed down my first helping, I first complemented the chef and then politely ordered a second helping. 😋👌🏼 The servings were fair, perfect. They come in little black rectangular containers with clear tops.Deets:• super cute inside- narrow and quaint.• they have a cute setup of wines, fresh pastas, sauces and cheeses to buy to the left of the register and in the cooler beneath the register. Prices vary but reasonable.• the lady working the register was the sweetest and warmest. Kind, patient and helpful from her first word to the order being brought out to me personally.• I was allowed to wait for my order inside with my 😷 on of course. I watched the young lady cut freshly made pasta in the window while jamming to their bomb music. 👌🏼• I was gifted a free dessert for confusion of info on one of the search sites, and it was yummy as well! It was a chocolate salami. All in all, Tortello was exactly the vibes and yummy food I needed on a cold winter Chicago day. ⛄️

We cannot wait to go back! Without a doubt, this was the best pasta we have had in the city. My fiancée and I dined this evening and split three pasta dishes (we couldn’t narrow our selection to two!). We had the tortelli (which is filled with a light, yet creamy burrata, topped with a delicate brown butter sauce, and is balanced by a crunch of crispy sage and toasted hazelnuts), orecchiette (which is tossed in a peppery rapini pesto and breadcrumbs for great textural balance), and lobster bucatini (with super fresh tomatoes that brought a lovely brightness to the dish). Most notably, the pasta was cooked to a PERFECT al dente, yielding an actual bite that was firm, allowing the pasta to hold its shape, promoting true tasting of the richness of the fresh pasta, and perfectly balancing the texture with the additional components of each dish. There is nothing worse than mushy over cooked pasta. That certainly is NOT the experience here, as Tortello perfected each plate! The service and atmosphere of Tortello are also wonderful. The owner greeted us as we walked in, spoke to all of the guests at their tables, and showed genuine consideration for each diner and their experience. His passion was obvious and he made my fiancée and I feel welcome right away. There was a mix of families with young children and young and old couples, sitting inside and also dining outside on the patio. While we dined, we noticed the sfoglina making pasta by hand was catching the attention of dozens of passerby on the street. We don’t blame them as we also took the time to sit and watch her! What a wonderful experience. Tortello has two new regulars. Our only qualm was that we hadn’t visited sooner!

Ive been thinking about it ever since.Im honestly surprised this place doesnt have a line out the door. The only thing I would wish for is that they jarred their pasta sauces and provided paper boxes for their pastas. I didnt buy the (delicious) pasta sauce they sell because its in paper cups, even though I really wanted to. That could easily spill in my bag, even if I wrap it. I also bought their tortelli and it stuck together in the paper bag they gave me. Tortello is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. The pasta tasted soooo good. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. Everything was prepared from fresh ingredients, and the quality of the food is outstanding and delicious. The owner gave us dessert on the house, and it was also so good. We will definitely be coming back soon.

I had the Chiusoni and shared an order of the focaccia with honey and riccota. The Chiusoni was pretty flavorful; I was a fan of the pasta itself, and the sausage was tender and appropriately salty - a pretty hearty dish. Only downside was that the pasta itself was just a touch undercooked, in my opinion. The focaccia was decent, nothing crazy special, and the riccota and honey was a nice, if not unique touch! What really killed it for me was the super high price and TINY portion. I dont mind the counter-serve style, and minimal atmosphere, but the amount of pasta on the plate was smaller than my hand... I made the joke to my friends that we should schlep over to Popeyes after for a 4-piece.The combination of quite-high price, decent pasta, and teeny serving brings this joint down a bit from an ace rating.

Ordered a cornucopia of selections to go from here for a pasta feast in one night. Right off the bat, the focaccia and ricotta & honey knocked me clean out of my Bombas socks. The focaccia isnt as oily or airy as other focaccia Ive had, but the elation of the softness, heartiness and salty flavor of this thick focaccia is quite pleasing. I was going to heat it up (as the pasta had to travel a far way home) but after one bite I couldnt in good conscience take the time it would require. On first bite some folks thought the ricotta was burrata because of its pillowy, smooth texture. The combo of that cream with the sweetness of the honey and the big, tender focaccia was honestly my favorite part of the meal.As a carnivore naturally I ordered the gnocchi with sausage sauce, which couldve benefitted from a reheat I think. The gnocchi wasnt as soft as my tongue prefers, but the custom shape was a little chunk of art in each bite. The spaghetti had a complex, deep umami flavor that was delightfully unexpected. The acidity of tomatoes often punches through during a plate of spaghetti, but it was napping quietly during this dish to our pleasant delight.Pork ragu tagliatelle was like putting your favorite warm cardigan on while slurping a glass of wine from a bottle you swiped from your rich parents secret wine cellar. It knew exactly what it was doing and delivered. The fennel salad delivered a quenching punch of citrus and your nose picked up the garlic before the fork hit your mouth. It was hard not to get a spoon and rescue all the dressing once the salad was gone.

We started with Tortello mealkits; and now its a full blown addiction. Perfect for date night, a carry-out meal for the family, or al fresco dining when the whether permits. Grazie a mille to Dario & team for always hooking it up.
