Firecakes Donuts: The story of this donut shop begins with the owner’s grandfather, who was a baker in the logging camps of northern Wisconsin in the 1930’s. He was renowned throughout the region for his unique bread, and after acquiring a round dough cutter, the first “firecakes” were born. Their current secret recipe is based off the original. For my first visit to the shop I went with the “Peanut Butter Cup”. It’s a yeast bismark filled with whipped Skippy peanut butter mousse. On top is a Valrhona chocolate icing & a candied-peanut sprinkle. I found the doughnut to have a great soft and chewy texture and it was obvious that it was freshly made. I got it because I love peanut butter and the filling did not disappoint, in fact I enjoyed it more than the peanut butter buttercream in my favorite MKE doughnut shop Cranky Al’s (Firecakes is more like actual peanut butter, but I like that Cranky Al’s has vanilla icing and sprinkles). Doughboy approved, although it makes me kind of sad that there isn’t one in MKE since it technically began in WI.*My friend got the “Buttermilk Old Fashioned” and “Tahitian Vanilla” and was nice enough to let me sample them. For a cake doughnut the Buttermilk was surprisingly good and while it was nothing revolutionary the Tahitian will easily please vanilla fansMy top doughnut shops:1. Cranky Al’s (MKE)2. Krispy Kreme (various locations in different states)3. Donut Bar (California & Arizona locations)4. Hurts Donut Co. (various locations in different states)
Very cute coffee shop. Wanted to try something new today. And these donuts did not disappoint. We chowed them down fast. I love their packaging. The little touch with the string. The donuts were very good. They only had one gluten free donut but it was amazing. I bought two and gobbled the other one. Definitely great. They need a little improvement with their coffee though. Coffee and donuts are a huge match. Other than that amazing
Wow so good that We brought some donuts home back to Orlando. Lots of choices and very fresh. Delicious...
Friedcakes is running by people who genuinely care about you! I’m a fan of raised donuts and they serve some of the best raised donuts in Chicago. Their donuts are light, fluffy, unique with adequate amount of sweetness. The only issue is they are a bit pricey. I tried the following donuts so far:Mini Cream Espresso: Highly recommenced!!! It is a small fluffy donut with a great espresso cream fillingPeach cobbler: Highly recommended! With bit of crunch on top and a peachy fresh custard filling this one can also steal your heart.Classic jelly: The owner seems to have a great appreciation for peach. This one comes with a very unique and delicious jelly filling.Tahitian Vanilla iced: Very fluffy, only recommend to those who are a huge fan of simplicity and vanilla. I believe you find better options when you are a gourmet donut shop.Lemon Blueberry: It was a dense cake donut with a crystalized icing that neither taste like lemon nor blueberry. If you are a fan of very sweet dense donut you might enjoy it but I don’t recommend it.
I ordered today walked-in (June 10th around 12:30 pm)4 donuts to go(we ate the honey glazed in the car thats why its not in the picture anymore.) The rest are gifts to our friends that we are going to visit that lives around the area. The (cashier/staff) she put those donuts on top of one another thats why it was all mushy and ruined when we get to their place after 5 mins. The donuts that we order for our friends looks old, mushy, and ruined.Theres a woman before me ordered 3 donuts and the cashier she placed each donuts in a separate container, well packed and well taken care of.So, I was surprised and I dont understand why with my 4 orders it will all put on top of one another and she was in a hurry that she didnt care how our donuts will look like after. As if I bought a very cheap donuts. Our order was packed and treated badly. Its not presentable anymore and we are shy to give it to our friends. Its very disappointing. We also paid for our order, I hope we were treated fairly in this branch.
Delicious old fashioned donuts that come in a variety of fun flavors. great for a pick me up! made fresh daily and you can tell in the quality
Delicious Donuts and love the drink options. The Palmer 50/50 drink really hit the spot.
This shop was really charming. The donuts were pretty good as well. The pistachio donut was kind of a fun and interesting experience. It was very artificially colored and flavored and extra sweet, but I’m glad we tried it. The Apple fritter was my favorite. It was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and tasted good. The donut was sprinkles was probably the best I’d ever had. My kids loves all of them! They went out of this world, which is why the 4 stars, but I would go again.
The donuts were not too dense but were soft, fluffy and light. The balance of flavors were on point too, sweet but not too sugary. In particular, the bacon and pineapple donut is amazing. I never had savory taste with my donuts before but this opened my eyes! Its just the right amount of bacon to add a subtle layer of saltiness to the overall taste. Delicious! Cant wait to visit again n very it!Their Old Fashioned buttermilk donut was soft and fluffy, and it simply melts in your mouth.Their latte however was a miss. It was burnt and bland. Will stick to their donuts next time.
The donuts are good, but not my favorites (Dorite Donuts). The reason I went here was because of all the wildly positive reviews, and because I was patronizing another business in the neighborhood. The service was 5 star, as the guy at the counter was very helpful. My favorite flavor was the pistachio, but my taste buds struggled to identify the presence of fruit in another filled donut. One of the problems was that the store does not accept cash. Whatever their reasons, this policy made me feel sad at checkout time because it seemed that the business was not interested in serving persons of a particular class. Because of that, I dont think Ill return. Dorite remains my DOC (Donut of Choice).
Fantastic af! We had a chili lime mango and I cant stop thinking about it. I appreciated them allowing one party in at a time during covid. Would def. visit again.
A decent place to have a desert. Their special is the ice cream donut, which is a vanilla ice cream sandwiched between a split donut. They have four varieties of donut and some syrups to add flavor. If you are looking for something different, ice cream donut would definitely be an option. Would have been better if they served the donut hot and cold ice cream.
Chili Mango doughnut… yet another great seasonal idea from these guys🍻
Delicious donuts for your Saturday and Sunday morning brunch!Order in advance! My only complaint is that the staff can move the line very slowly, even for online pickup.
Donuts made fresh. Also have vegan donuts. The ice cream donut sandwiches are awesome!!!
Amazing donuts! Huge coffee lover here so I always get the espresso donut!
Great place for tried and true flavors as well as some killer seasonal specialties. The old fashioned doughnuts here are some of my favorite in the city. Also, the Meyer Lemon! They offer an array of doughnuts, ice cream sandwiches, coffee, tea, milk (and milk alternatives), lemonade and more.Keep an eye out for their items in coffee shops across the city as well!
Awesome little donut spot. The selection was wide ranging with some safe classics, but also some out there options. The espresso, strawberry, peanut butter, and churro focused donuts were amazing. Definitely enjoyed the nitro La Colombe coffee option to pair with the donuts on a warm day. Staff help and recommendations were definitely appreciated. A fair amount of seating, although most people seemed to be getting it to go. Will have to come back to try the donut ice cream sandwiches!
Truly the best donuts in the city and even for the people who don’t like donuts. I have been hooked since the day I tried them. If it’s your first time try the Tahitian vanilla! 😍
Amazing donuts! The have some unique flavors and are fresh baked each day. A must try for dessert!
Found this gem by accident, so Im love with their blueberry donut!
That Blueberry Cream cheese donut was heaven, churro donut was also amazing
Ordered online. Now 2 days in a row. By far the best donuts Ive ever had. Most unique texture and taste. Extremely filling even for me! Great job Firecakes!
After visiting Licoln Park Zoo, I was in a hot chocolate and donut mood. I browsed through the website and was hoping for a king cake donut. Pre-ordering suggested the order will be done in 30 mins. Well, i didnt have 30 mins to wait, i wanted it as soon as i ger there, which was 1/2 mile away! So i decided to just buy donuts on the spot.Metered parking around that area, fair amount of specialty donut selection. My 4 year old daughter had a sprinkle donut. I was torn between the seasonal snowball donut or pistachio. My daughters father had the huge glazed donut (half the size of his face) and he tore that up quickly! I decided on the regular selection (pistachio). I loved the soft sweet inside of my donut. My daughter enjoyed her $3.50 hot chocolate with marshmallows. The average cost for these donuts and 2 hot chocolates were $16+.What caught my eye was a birthday cake 2 layer donut, which I may come back to buy as a smash cake for my daughters birthday, $12.Staff was helpful, 2 tables for outdoor seating.
Their cold brew is too sour, vanilla ice cream taste too light, chocolate flavor is way better.
Nice lil shop. Decent service. Doughnuts are fresh but small and pricey.
Expensive donut shop. The cake based donuts (Sprinkles/Old-Fashioned) were pretty nasty, but the yeast based donuts (Tahitian Vanilla Iced, Wildflower Honey Glazed) were worth the cost of admission.
Very good especially the peanut butter cup donut.
Their ice cream donuts are quite good!
The Vegan chocolate donut is sooooo good. There’s a luxurious mousse in the middle with crunchy coconut on top. Angels sung, birds adorned me with ribbons, the world stopped harmoniously around me as I took each bite. Yum.
My donut was greasy and oily which was disappointing. When we arrived we thought the store was closed caused nobody was in there no customers so it was a surprise for me. Way expensive donut had so much expectations from previous experience but it was an ok donut for me. Cute and colorful designs but mot so much variety at this place.
This is my favorite donut in Chicago. This place just has a little bit more than other shops Ive had. Always fresh, crispy but soft. Flavor is always outstanding. Highly recommend.
I guarantee a smile with every bite. Such wonderful care and creativity was put into these donuts.
For a $30 box of donuts I expected way better. All the yeast donuts were extremely dry and just unexciting. Both cake donuts were good but we only got the plain and pistachio. I got a mixed dozen and really only got a couple flavors. All and all I would come back just for the cake donuts but that’s about it. For 30$ I only expect perfection, and absolutely nothing should be dry.
Love love Love! They have such creative donut flavors and such a wide variety that there is something for everyone. Tahitian vanilla, maple bacon, pistachio old fashioned, coconut cream, apple fritter...you name it, they got it! I should also mention that these donuts are HUGE and well worth the price. Its a cozy little spot and is a bit of a hidden gem. Yum 😄
Love waking up in the morning to come here for the apple fritters! They are AMAZING! Beats anything Iv had before! Love the style of the place. Its a nice natural rustic scenery. Which makes it event better! Not to mention the staff are always smiles and make the experience better. They are known for their famous doughnut sandwiches as well That as enjoyable as well. FYI they start to serve them at 11am. If anybodys looking to start their morning eating ice cream and doughnuts.
3rd time my Boston cream and espresso cream donuts have literally no filling in them :/
Delicious donut, good coffee, friendly service, and keeps customer safety in mind with social distancing rules!
When are donuts ever a bad idea?! This small quaint Instagram worthy coffee and donut shop certainly hit the spot. From what I could tell the donuts they offered were simple classics but were larger than usual which was great. The Interior is great too; bright shop, wood tables, industrial chairs, and great accent color walls. Cant wait to try their entire selection.
So soft & fresh, just absolutely amazing 🤩😋
So delicious! I had the honey glazed donut and it was amazing
Good donuts. A bit of a novelty. Wouldnt recommend going out of your way for one.
My fiance and I went on a hunt for the best donuts in this city and these are it. Firecakes is worth every penny. Every donut is so good. Our favorites are: The buttermilk old fashion, orange poppyseed old fashion, triple chocolate coconut, strawberry mascarpone and malted milk ball. But really though.. everyone of them are delicious.
So, so good! The chocolate iced is amazing. The donuts are so soft, and the icing is delicious. I also tried the chai latte, and it was super tasty. Will definitely go back to try more.
I recently placed a pickup order at this location and they forgot to give me a donut. I have tried to contact them several times this morning, however, no one has answered. Make sure to check your box before you leave as they won’t bother to pick up the phone when you call after the fact.
Always delicious... gotta be honest though, I just found a spot thats a little better. Only reason I couldnt give 5 stars. Service was excellent
You definitely get what you pay for. Excellent donuts.
My favorite is their old fashioned donut. The espresso filled little donut is delicious too!
Beautiful place for donuts. I had my first donuts here, and then I got to know not all donuts are firecake donuts. Must try the Icecream sandwich ❤️
I was really disappointed in the donuts here. Their aesthetic is so cool and it always seems so busy but I tried their pumpkin brulee donut and pistachio one...the pumpkin was straight sugar and no pumpkin taste, the pistachio had no flavor and was just gross.
Delicious donuts! Not overly sweet and they have great flavor options. We got the peach cobbler and the espresso creme filled.
The Pistachio donut was delicious!
Delish. Nice cozy place. Server was very nice..a must go
Fantastic donuts and kind staff. Try the traditional and the pistachio old fashioned and you won’t be disappointed!
Delicious ice cream served between a glazed donut like a sandwich topped with chocolate sauce. Cant go wrong there. I just wished they had more flavors of both the ice cream and donuts. Chow!
I am addicted to their donuts, the only problem was the coffee but it is compensated with a great customer support.
Best donuts ever! I visited this place with my nieces and daughter and we simply loved it! There is a wide variety of donuts to choose from and they are delicious. We all tried different ones and they were great!
