The staff here was very kind and helpful. This store is nice to even just browse if you don’t have something specific in mind. The staff helped many customers on the phone and in the store. They have vinyls, old video games, and even newer accessories. My friend bought a switch controller. Prices are good and it’s well organized.

Worst place for deals and overpriced stuff. You’re better off on eBay finding your stuff. Would rather be ion the internet where prices are reasonable. The only convenience is walking in but that gets shot down with rude sales associates who are too busy in their own convos or just staring at you until you leave. All The Exchanges are pretty much a waste of money.

This is a great store to pick up all kinds of older games, figures, & movies. However, 1 or 2 games didn’t work for me & I had to take them back. I also would prefer if I could choose not to wear a mask but the seem to require it. The staff was nice & good selection so if they’d improve on the previous 2 things I would say it’s 5 stars.

Everything is WAY over priced here. You can find anything they sell here, cheaper online or at the retro game store on Harlem Ave. $160 for a Nintendo 64!? Other stores and online have them for $100 or cheaper. They dont care about their customers its more of a cash grab for them. Also dont sell your items here if you know what you have, theyll lowball you like game stop. Ive taken the same item in different times and got different prices.. sketchy. Its much more worth it to wait until eBay sends your things thru the mail, than be taken for a ride at this place.

My favorite game store in Wicker Park. They usually have what I’m looking for and if they don’t they order it for me and let me know when it’s arrived. Never had a problem with these guys and they are a fun bunch when shopping, very helpful and informative.

Cool selection with some of the best of each console has to offer. On the pricy side but thats what you pay for if you want to inspect a game in person and have it same day too. Sadly, I have to rate them low here after two bad experiences here. The first ever time visiting here, I bought a GameCube bundle. When I returned home, three of the controllers (aftermarkets) were malfunctioning. GameCube was also defective (wouldnt read discs). I lost my receipt so thats on me but if Im paying $200+ I expect quality. Please take everything with a grain of salt here and KEEP YOUR RECEIPT. This time around, I received a GameCube game as a gift from here. Im coming back for a refund/exchange as the disc is cracked (friend who bought me the game isnt a game collector/hobbyist so didnt think to check disc). Please dont put the disc back up on the shelves guys or at least be honest about the disc quality of your games (Ive heard stories of them doing this before). Im sure the disc plays fine, but $60 for a retro game? These things are getting harder and harder to find by the day so its just upsetting to have your time and money wasted on potentially nonworking disc down the line. Still better than Gamestop I guess. Edit: They gave me credit for the cracked disc, and I was able to grab Chibi Robo from them, so they get a star for that.

Bought a gameboy game that doesn’t save. I wasn’t able to swap it out or return it because I don’t have the receipt! Sucks because I just basically gave this place $75.

Friendly and helpful staff they made my first trip both fun and memorable. Definitely coming back for future video game questions and inquiries. As a bonus: I was able to find two sought after games.

The staff is super nice. Many vintages games and systems. They also sell toys. Lots of movie selections to pick from.They even have $1 movies.

Just Had the worst experience ever at this store I’ve been coming to this location for so long a lot of the usual faces have changed I ordered a movie that they said would be in today. I arrived at 3:30 they said they had not unloaded yet and it would take some time. I said no problem I’ll just shop around on Milwakee went to like 5 stores and awaited a call. Even after going to the stores shipment was still not unpacked. I then waited in my car because at that time my meter was min from expiring and luckily I did cause the motor man was passing my car while I was in it. Received the call that my dvds was ready at that point I didn’t want to pay the meter again so I went to the door with cash in hand and I could watch my car at the same time. The guy begins slamming the money on the counter as if he was bothered by something he counted it 3 or 4 times said I was short of the total by $2 at that point I gave him $2 and he begins to count the money several more time at that point it’s about to start raining I asked how many times did he need to count the money he says as many times as I want matter of fact I lost count I have to start again. I said do what you have to do but you’ve already counted it numerous times “why” if you say I was short $2 do you have to keep counting. He says you can just take the money back. I said I’ve been coming here before you ever worked here. I said please do your job I just want my items. He goes in and starts counting again🤦‍♂️ I decided I would write a email or review an to management

The Exchange is great company. It is better than Gamestop. After visiting numerous locations in various states of this chain, this is probably one of the worst locations. Be sure to try your games within 30 days, because they sell non-working games at a premium price. Most locations are staffed by knowledgeable friendly people who want to ensure a positive gaming experience, but here they seemed stressed and annoyed to handle an exchange outside of the normal parameters. I shouldnt have waited so long, thats on me, attitude, thats on them. Look at some of the other reviews, youll see similar situations. Too bad, cause it is usually a great experience at other locations.

When it comes to this store, you never know what youll find. You could end up finding something you didnt expect to find and walk out with a new buy.The staff is amazing. Theyll ask if you need anything, strike up a conversation with you; overall friendly. If you cant find what youre looking for, theyll check their other branches to see if they have it.

I love the Exchange! This location is much bigger than the one in Lakeview, and has a lot more pop culture items/posters/figurines. The staff is always happy to help find what you need and they make selling easy.

I just want to thank whomever it was I spoke on the phone with. You save me a big headache I was lucky that the other locations line was busy. I had an issue with a used xbox one s console I purchased. The control although felt new, the ledt analog stick would ramdomly toss me to the right (racing games) and when you are in the game menus it would go all haywire and would not let me choose anything unless it was at randomly pressing A. After hearing me out about half way and asking me what I was trying to do. He stops me and just tells me to get in contact with the store to swap out just the controller. He himself talked to them I beleive as I chose to ride my bike to the Belmont Location. They where already ready for me so for the awesome customer service I had to purchase an extra remote as I needed one so me and my Son could play a game he wanted. You guys are awesome thank you for going out of your way and thank you for being open during these tough times.

Im sad to have to review this store so low. I made a purchase and the first cashier that rang me up was very accommodating and friendly. After realizing that the unit wasnt going to work for my circumstances I realized I need to return. Upon the return, the supposed manager who would not provide his name, insisted on charging me a restocking fee while insulting me and being overall rude and disrespectful. There was an heir of entitlement that wasnt appreciated. So over good for purchases, not so much on returns.

Back in my addiction days they gave me 700+ $ for a 2 giant boxes of old systems and games. I feel really bad I ever sold them all but now 3 years clean I want to buy everything back. They were always nice to me.

An awesome retro game and movie shop. I come in every so often to check what new cool things they have in stock. They even carry new unique items that you wouldnt typically find at Best Buy as well! Great prices too.

Great place to find vintage NES SEGA & PS games, as well as real hip hop and vinyl. Knowledgeable staff, & easy to locate stock of merchandise as well. The $1 DVD section does sucks like whoa though...I recommend this place to all gamers and non-trendys.

Excellent second hand game shop. Decent selection overall. Some new stuff as well. Wish they had a bit larger of a selection of rarities but you can get stuff transferred over from other locations if they have it which is cool. If I were local Id definitely utilize it. Great deals on used consoles. Got a OG psx for $55 with a memory card, a controller, and all necessary cables. They also have a ton of movies but I didnt browse that as much. Just by the sheer volume of movies though Id say they have a solid selection.

Great place for your Retro and current needs in Gaming, Music, and Movies. Custosmer Services are impeccable, and something you been looking for will always be there. Hell Ive even found a copy of Super Metroid and Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time for a great price. Never mind the low reviews either they didnt found at what theyre looking for, or just plain trolling. This place is awesome.

Tons of gems here, without the inflated prices that often come with the finds. Be sure to check items for scratches and such before leaving- I had no trouble besides a minor cosmetic scratch on the top of the disc of a game I bought which spends most of its time in my console anyhow.Staff are helpful and funny.Will definitely check here before I go to Gamestop, Target, or even Amazon.

Just passing by, I went in to see if they had a practically unknown movie (1986). Quietly, the nice girl behind the counter found it in a second. Pretty surprised, the price was just $8, too. What could I ask more?Thanks

A big selection of ridiculously cheap movies. A lot of them for a single dollar. If you need to get rid of old movies this is the perfect place to go. Just dont expect to make the big money. Also exchange got a great selection of comics.

The employees were pleasant, however, its imperative that you check your items before purchasing. My DVD turned out to be a former library copy, missing its accompanying booklet and quite scratched albeit playable. Will cease going to brick and mortar establishments in future. Found same item on ebay for less without the hoodwinking.

The place seems decent, but Im here to review the D**k in the the form of a short guy with a beard. I went twice and he took every opportunity to be a D**k. Ive been in Chicago for 7 months and Id rank him a close second in the D**kist of D**ks competition running in my head.

I have been to this shop twice so far and I love it I would recommend this store over gamestop any day. The employees are helpful, cool to talk to and nice over all. I found so many games and even some old ps2 games i loved as a kid there. They have so many games to choose from and the prices at the shop are so worth it to me. Everything was for a low price that was more than fair to me. This is definitly the shop for me.

The manager was acting very strange to me... I mentioned how I couldnt believe that there was more Lady Gaga over Annie Lennox ... and that some of those videos of her are intense... I made a movie purchase after they didnt have the Annie I was looking for... I was helped by a guy who thought his manager was also out of line... When he over heard what he said to me outside.... The guy followed me out of the store after my purchase and says... No need to get political in here... As if he has the place bugged with microphones...I wasnt political. Super weird... I returned the purchase after a phone call and ten minutes of reflection to find out what he meant by political.... It was weird... I was showered, belly full looking for a night time music and movie for my night at home. Weird. I left the situation off-putting and sad.

Very cheap and large selection of old and brand new games, movies, and music. Super friendly staff and very knowledgeable. Definitely recommend bringing a geeky friend so they can spaz out on all the old school stuff.

They sell used and new items from DVDs, CDs, and modern and retro video games plus accessories. You will get better trade value for video games here than a GameStop. Recently, they were kind enough to give me more store credit than normal for my trades towards buying a new game. Ive never seen that from any chain Ive visited before. A+

Tiger woods 07. Bring it on. although there is no augusta on this one its still a damn good game. Cheap as hell best 2.50 I spent for 15 minutes of play.

Store is alright, pretty clean. Staff is very nice and helpful. Lots of great items and if you wish to return anything you have a long time to return it. Only complaint about The Exchange is that I purchased a $50 copy of a game that was unable to save and the disc became unreadable which I suspect was partially due to the game being stored in a DVD case. Edit: The store was the one that had the game disc in a DVD case and the ring on the disc was somewhat frayed due to the edges of the DVD case. Such a waste of $50 lol

Decided to drop in since I was in the area and have been excited to see the selection here; however, that feeling quickly subsided. I picked up some loose games that were super cheap ($3 and below) and not in the cases that are locked and was listening to music, browsing, and holding the games in plain sight. Literally, every couple of minutes, a guy keep peering down the aisle, as if to make sure that I wasnt stealing the games. I wasnt. And i would never but he kept looking at me as if I were going to steal them at any moment. My hobby is playing games and collecting systems and I have a ton of games and was browsing for very specific games so forgive me for wanting to take my time in front of every different system case. Eventually, a young lady walked up to me and asked me if I was still doing ok, to which I replied, yes, thanks. Before she left, she made it a point to say, would you like me to hold onto these in the front? And of course I said, sure because obviously it was a big deal. I know the deal, having been to the Lakeview location that they hold items in the front and the employees there were very transparent and non-accusatory in stating their policy, which I have no qualms with at all. I was just confused about the fact that the games were out in the open and still had to be held upfront but the Wicker Park employee that kept checking on me hadnt said anything about that, he just kept looking at me periodically. I wouldve been more receptive to him just flat out saying, hey, we just have to keep the games in the front. Cool, no big deal. Anyway, that really put me in a funk so that being said, I think Ill stick with my regular location. Especially since they order anything that Id need if its not in stock. Who wants to feel like theyre committing a crime or being accused of committing a crime by the way of someone staring them down every so often while they shop? Certainly not me.

This store is very rude!! My son went into this store to find out if he could return games he bought. But instead he was talked to like a he was a person who was there to steal. He came home very upset and explain to me the conversation that was had with the manager that was there. I then called the store to figure out what happen. Speaking with the manager nick who is very rude and condescending. Before i could get 2 words out he was already very defensive. Spoke to me in a way i have never been spoken to and i wish i had recorded the conversation we had today. He started to say things like that means this incase you dont know what that means and your angry and bitter. I never raised my voice i never accused him of anything. I was simply trying to figure out why my 17 year old son came home very upset and hurt at how 2 people in this establishment spoke to him. I dont know if this is how you train your employees to be but i have never been spoke to so rudely in my life. I will make sure to never step foot in this store again and neither will anyone that i know or come in contact with.

Great spot with good selection of retro games. They mostly have movies, but had a nice amount of NES, Genesis, and SNES games. Seemed to have a lot more newer retro console stuff like Wii and 360, PS2, but overall they had a nice mix of everything. Prices were really fair and service was really helpful.

I came here today, not knowing what to expect, because a friend asked me to go with her. Im so glad she did! My absolute favorite part was that they had a lot of retro games (N64, NES, SNES etc). I walked out of that store a very happy person. Bought two game cartridges for a close friend who loves retro games, and I will DEFINITELY be coming back, both for his and my own retro-gaming needs!
