We shop on Sundays and for the past two months this store has been consistently horrible at the checkout line. People are lined up in the isles with only 2 out of 5 lines open, besides self checkout and you seem to have to bag your own groceries. Very sad for a union shop.

Have you seen or heard the Kroger commercials that are blasted all over TV and radio recently? They’re all about the company guaranteeing freshness and touts that only the freshest, best produce is selected for each store. This store did NOT get that memo. I remember when this location first opened. It was the equivalent of Chester getting a Wegmans. The store was immaculate, the produce super fresh and the butcher counter rivaled local shops. The store is now unrecognizable. My last few trips have been extremely disappointing, but it was my most recent trip on a Friday night that sealed the deal for this being the last visit.I fully understand we’re still in the middle of a pandemic, which means shipping delays and staffing shortages. I don’t hold it against the company for not being able to keep the shelves stocked. However, I do expect the items that are in stock to be fresh, free of mold and not riddled with flies. The produce department was probably one of the most disgusting produce sections I have ever visited. Many of the items I needed were not available, and the products that were available were not consumable. There was a bin of jalapeno peppers that were wrinkled, smashed, moldy and swimming in a puddle of mush. It was literally gag-inducing. I moved on to the packages of grape and cherry tomatoes. Every pack I picked up produced a swarm of fruit flies and/or gnats that came flying out of the containers. There were two bundles of parsley left on the shelf, but the leaves were all brown and slimy. The worst part of this wasn’t even the extreme nastiness of the products, but the fact that there were two employees hanging out in the produce department just chit-chatting. I walked past them several times and was never greeted or asked if I needed assistance. They weren’t cleaning out the nasty bins, stocking the items or doing anything about the deplorable state of the produce section. I gave up on the rest of my produce list and moved to the meat section ….Again, many items on my list were out of stock, but I picked up a few packages of pork chops, a tenderloin and a pack of country ribs. Is anyone surprised to know that when I got home and opened the country ribs and the tenderloin, they were both ROTTEN?! Both had sell-by dates that were over a week away and the color of the meat looked fine. However, rotten egg/ammonia smell almost knocked me out. Not sure that the store would have known to pull these items; they easily could have been carried around in someone’s cart and then put back after being stored improperly. But after this awful experience added to the last few mediocre trips to this store, I will not shop here again.The only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of one is because the checkout associates are always friendly. None of the employees on the floor ever speak, even when I make eye contact, but the front-end staff is always pleasant.

Im very disappointed. 3 people behind the deli counter and no one would wait on me. All the employees are so busy with online orders and stocking shelves, you cant get any help. Prices marked were incorrect. Theres no sign telling you that you have to pay a $2 deposit for a bottle of milk. The only employee I could complain to was in the restroom.

EDIT: To KROGERs District Manager credit swiftly reached out to me via phone saying entrance foyers sh/be cleaned EVERY 30 mins. There was less litter when I last visited in Jan. 2021, but some was still evident. It has improved. When carts are collected and returned, is it too much to ask the same associates to make sure customers dont see any trash as we enter the store to buy food? They collect carts frequently. I have increased the rating from 1star to 3stars to be fair. Review is ongoing.

Great place to shop for food. The store itself is very clean and the friendly staff is most helpful. Easy access in and out of the parking lot, which has ample spaces for your choosing. Eat right. Eat healthy. Eat Kroger.

A bit disappointed lately in what used to be my favorite grocery store. Went this morning for my weekly groceries and only 1 register was open. The self checkout even had a line as everyone checking out had full carts and the user unfriendly self scanner really makes shopping more than unpleasant. I realize they have the pickup area but prefer to pick my own groceries, brands, veggies and fruits in person. Kroger, please get back to real customer care and put in more cashiers for checking out. Food Lion has stepped up and has their cashiers waiting and inviting you into their multiple in person check out lanes!

Kroger Deli has the best salads!!Always fresh!!

Nice place. Keeps it clean and comfortable. Wide range of choices on many items. They have discounts on many things.They have a Youscan that you do yourself. They have Social distancing in place. This is the closest Kroger to me, but I only go if I absolutely have to. I prefer the one one Ironbridge Rd, which is a few miles down the road. It is common for them to be out of many items (poorly stocked). It isnt as large as some other Krogers which makes me feel like its always super crowded. I recently had an issue with the Pharmacy. I called to refill my prescription and she said it would be ready in 45 minutes. Upon arriving, they informed me that the item was not in stock and they should be getting it in later that night. They told me I shouldve received a message informing me. I did not and have not received any notification via phone, text, etc. I made a special trip for nothing. I think they should update their system or manage inventory better to tell a person the item is not in stock when requesting a refill, before driving there and wasting valuable time.

In self checkout I was standing to the side of our cart as my husband scanned. Past experiences, this has never been a problem at our regular store or other locations. Today the attending cashier had me step away from my cart. Someone was stepping up to the register behind us. Someone else just used it with me standing there & he nor the employee had concern. After I moved (only option was to side of front aisle/walkway) the cashier & customer engaged in conversation. If they were acquainted is no care of mine. Suddenly gone the urgent need for extended distance. During conversation the cashier burst out hey if she didnt like it as they both laugh, tap shoulders and start whispering with glances to me & more giggles. Behavior was not only disrespectful but totally unprofessional. A customers obvious need to make a statement of whatever and ignorant behavior should not be entertained & accommodated by an employee with no regard for the visible physical disability of another. Actually it was apparent I was standing there with the cart supporting my arm in a brace. My intention is that this be the last time I ever shop this location. Too bad the company has no knowledge such behavior is tolerated by mgmt.

I was at kroger this morning and a very nice older, african American gentleman help me with my groceries because he saw me struggling with my toddler and i had a baby in the basket. He pushed my groceries out to my car. I told him thank you but because im such a scatter brain i forgot to ask him his name. I just wanted to say thank you again to him for helping me when i was struggling but i wanted other customers and the store to know what great thoughtful people work at this store.

This location is subpar. They never have the things you are looking for. The store is always messy and disorganized. Save yourself the disappointment drive up the street and go to the better location.

Super clean store well stocked.

A large and delightful Kroger as part of the larger Breckenridge Shopping Center just off of I-95 and a bit down Route 1. For being placed in the center of a bustling strip mall area it is quite accessible from multiple sections of the roads around it and has quite a large parking lot and facility itself. I found the quality and decor of the place to be better than some other supermarkets otherwise around Chester - the atmosphere just felt good, like they take good care of the place.

Kroger is generally more expensive than Walmart or Food Lion, but has more variety. It is less expensive than Publix or Wegmans, but very close in choices. Their curbside pickup works well and the variety of items they will ship to you is very good.

My go-to local grocery store. Generally it is well stocked and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Friendly staff and easily navigated. The bathrooms are what knocked off stars for me. The toilet paper, soap, and paper towel dispensers were all broken and the bathrooms themselves were not cleaned.

This Kroger is very poorly ran. Some of the cashiers are friendly & good... the only redeemable characteristic of this location. On my trip the other day they had NO ONE working the customer service desk. Was overcharged $3 for a mislabeled product. Per the picture the sign said customer service would be open again at 7:45pm so I unloaded all my groceries & walked back in then waited until 7:45pm... spoiler alert no one showed up so I left. Love Kroger in general but this one is awful & to be avoided if possible.

This place is the worst, they have employees just standing around while the lines are back up into the isles. Only have 2 lanes open and expect you to do self check out, last time I checked I didnt work there.

I have a question. There use to be a spot to click on to ask. I cant find it anywhere so Im asking here.::I would like to do an online order so I can just arrive & pick up my items. Can I order online & pay with my SNAP card? I dont see why not. Im confused about it bc I saw an article where VA Governor wants to make Online ordering available to people paying with their SNAP Card . I know I can call& ask but my minutes on my phone are out til next month or tilI purchase minutes. Thank You to anyone who will see this & answer in the Review section. Stat Safe & Use Common Sense.

This is probably the worst location I’ve ever used for Clicklist. Multiple times I have had them say my item was “out of stock” just for me to go inside and find the items right in plain sight.I received my substitution text 3 hours before my pickup time, I approved the subs, and then headed to pickup about an hour before (I have done this before without issue) and apparently my order wasn’t ready even though they somehow already knew which items they did or didn’t have. So either they just guess what items are in stock without shopping or they were just too lazy to actually bring me my order. They blamed it on “paperwork” but when I called to ask what they meant they had no idea what I was talking about.Save yourself the headache and shop elsewhere.

This Kroger doesnt clean thier carts on a regular basis. When we went on sunday we were told that they only clean them between 12: 00 and 7:00 pm. The second time we went we had to wait for an employee to come in from the parking lot with the disinfectant so we could clean the cart ourselves. I guess covid only is contagious between the hours of 12:00 and 7:00 pm and only at this Kroger, amazing isnt it. So be warned this Kroger is not practicing safe disinfecting practices. Your pretty much onyour own to clean your cart or basket. Kinda makes you wonder what else in this store is wrong.BE CAREFUL AND GOOD LUCK WHEN SHOPPING AT THIS KROGER.

The service in this particular Kroger has been going downhill for some time. There is never anyone capable of giving you information in the floral department. They page for assistance at least twice and when someone finally shows up, they can not answer your questions. Yesterday, for example, they had some beautiful Garden is bushes outside. Of course every other plant had prices displayed, but not the Gardenias. We waited over 15 minutes for someone to come to the department and that person said she didnt know how much they were and we would have to bring one in to be scanned. It was pouring rain outside and the bushes were not in a covered area. We were not about to carry a sopping wet bush inside to only find out that it cost more than we wanted to pay. By that point about 25 minutes were wasted for nothing.The next worst department is the deli. Count on at least 45 minutes to an hour wait even if there is only 1 person ahead of you. Employees are busy chatting with each other and take forever trying to find the open cold cuts you are trying to purchase.Save yourself some time and frustration by going down Route 10 to the other Kroger.

Dont buy their firewood. Got 2 bundles; tossed 1 on a burning fire. So, the straight wood slates burned well but the actual wood never burned and gave off a LARGE amount of smoke. Save a few bucks and go to a local hardware store if you need a quick bundle. Spent money on pieces of wood that gave off no heat; just smoke.

Im not sure if this district participates in the 5 foot acknowledge rule but I passed several associates working the floor, too busy to help. Even a co-manager! And several daytime grocery associates with full on u-boats out on the floor, if this store requires full day time stocking vs. night then the associates need to be responsive to their surroundings. I know the holidays have hit the back room but the customer shouldnt feel in the way while trying to spend money. Hopefully this review finds the right eyes. I didnt want to blast you on your OSAT survey, I know how important those are.

Parking at this Kroger is awful. The lot isn’t big enough for the amount of volume it receives. Shelves are never stocked, I can seldom find what I’m looking for, and their selection is terrible. Customer service is poor at best, and to top it all off, the one time I find something that us been freshly stocked, it’s cheese that was moldy. Honestly, you’re better off driving 10 minutes up Rt. 10 to the Kroger near the county courthouse.

This store has gone down on the customer service. Too many self checkout lanes. The lady (Katherine) working in the self checkout this morning was very rude and didn’t want to help because she was on the other side talking. I understand you don’t feel upbeat all the time, but you chose to work in customer service so deal with it in a professional way. Stop making the business look bad.

Asked both self checkout cashiers for change for 2 whole dollars in quarters and both made me wait in a long line at customer service just to get change; both said they werent allowed to. I worked as a floor supervisor for this company for over 5 years so I know for a fact that you can give me change for 2 dollars out of your till at self checkout. Asked the lady at customer service just to double check to see if the policy at this location was different, and all I got was a its up to them.So not only do you have two employees who are too lazy to push a button on their screen to open their till, something that will take at most 5 seconds, but you have two liars working for your store. Wont be coming back.

Only at this location does the deli have what you ask for, but if you wish to wait 30mins then maybe you get what you ask for....the other location off route 10 in Chester is the best all around...

We were in your location yesterday. We had driven all day and were pretty much to the end of our patience, when a nice young man in customer service came to our rescue. We had been all over the store searching for Perrier when he very kindly, not only took me to it, but carried it to the register for me. I am 77 years old and had taken a bad fall that morning. I was not really hurt but was very sore all over.It is always nice to witness someone not only do their job, well but always with such curtesy. This was once a great store. Now it is awful. The shelves are rarely stocked with items you want to purchase--especially in produce and meat. Only one to two regular registers are open at peak times...with one employee staffing the other twelve self checkouts--which is another issue with all the incorrect pricing the self checkouts ring up (to Krogers advantage). And if you want cold cuts, make sure to schedule an extra hour and a half for your waiting time. It is also dirty and never has carts available. Other than that...

Awesome Krogers, probably one of the best in the area. Its always clean and well maintained. They always fully stocked. You can get in and out with a minimum wait time. The staff always friendly.

I have been shopping at Kroger for years. But this location has made me not want to but, Ive been told by employees not to come back!!! I have had severe horrible customer service here. The woman at customer service has literally cursed me out saying the F word & still has a job. The people who work at the gas station have zero customer service skills & down right hateful! This is always at night! Kroger allows their employees to say anything & curse because they are protected by an old school UNION! Its almost impossible to get fuel points anymore, still paid 3 cents more than the Shell right beside them (DUH they are Shell fuel to). Prices have gone up & its like work trying to figure out their digital coupons, there is always a catch to using them anyways. They made the parking lot where you have to park further away. Your employees won, I dont see any purpose to go back & keep them employed!

I was trying to get over being sick and I entered the store about 11:20pm to get some Gatorade, ginger ale, cranberry juice etc. A really nice lady I think her name was Pat with white hair came to my rescue. She took the time to help me find what I was looking for and that meant he world to me because she could tell I was not feeling good at all.

Their sushi is the best. Best place to shop in bulk too, not to mention save on your gas with the fuel rewards. Still choose to shop here even though its out of the way from home since i moved.

Love this store! And the customer service is terrific. Will definitely be making this my primary store for all my grocery needs!

Self check-out woman was no where to be found, off talking to other employees I do believe, 5 customers all needed something in order to process their check-out and had to wait for her. One register was down for at least 10 minutes because she had not fixed an issue with it which was as simple as scanning her card. Scales in the bagging area hardly work for light weighing items. I always use the self check-out and it is always the same woman and she is not friendly at all.

Ridiculously slow lines, mostly due to the fact that they focused on adding self check-outs instead of good customer service.

There are 2 Kroger in Chester and this review is for the original older one on Jeff Davis. Some of the pictures on here are of the newer nicer store about 10 minutes away.This store is what I call the dumpy Kroger, the produce section is no where near as nice as the newer store, as if they know the other store is bigger and nicer and dump the lesser quality produce here. Items being out of stock is also a common problem but the most annoying problem is prices not matching what is in the computer which must happen to me about a third of the time I go there (I can walk to this one, which is the only reason I go to it so often) They leave sale signs up past their end date, they put items on sale but dont change it in the computer and one time put 2 completely different sales on the same item. I do most of my shopping at Aldi and Wal-Mart and this does happen at other stores too, but much less often. Some Kroger brand products are genuinely excellent, they do have some great sales, but this particular store comes across as the Kroger no one cares about. If I didnt live right behind it, I would never go to it.Wrote my original review more than a year ago, still continue to have bad experiences at this store, but I live right behind it. Ladies at customer service are always nice and helpful, today dealt with Lucy who was great. Jeff who works in stock and also a man with a white beard who works in stock are also nice, but some of the women cashiers and counter workers are awful. Woman at the self check got nasty when I asked her if the eggs were 99 cents (rang up as $1.18), snapped at me No theyre not and as it turns out she was wrong and rude about it. The eggs were 99 when I bought them on Monday, were still 99 cents today, how did they get into the computer at $1.18 ???? Lucy confirmed they were 99 and refunded my money. Why should you have to go through this while shopping for groceries ? I live within 10 minutes of 7 grocery stores, you would think they would care, but this place stays so busy, I guess they dont . Please hire the type of people you use in customer service and not these nasty women.

The sushi is awesome! I went to a nearby sushi bar last night because it had a four star review, should have been a the at best. Some even said it was the best they have had.I purchased a California variety pack of sushi from Kroger tonight for dinner. Give five stars all the way and was under ten dollars. I also picked up yellow grapes and pistachios on sale. The store was clean and organized. Even a wide selection of sushi and sashimi to choose from in the case.

This Kroger has been great for my orders for large parties. The veggies were fresh and fruit tasted sweet and perfect as well. The cupcakes and sheet cakes seemed to be high quality. The other products and layout of this particular store also seemed well thought out.

Click-List Pickup at this location is a disaster. Terrible layout, no notification of substitutions, charged for missing items, and wrong quantity of items given. Wont be shopping here again. Never had these issues with the Midlothian location. The parking lot is a bigger free-for-all mess than a Walmart parking lot, and that is saying something.

Was busy but, it is great place to shop.

Always clean, prices are reasonable and the seafood department is the best place for fresh seafood and they also steam the shrimp and crabs for you. If the steamer isnt broken. Always my go to place to shop. Also if you download the app. There is a weekly ad paper with everything thats on sale.

Great place to shop. It does need a larger parking lot but it has no where to expand to. Awesome sales.

I have been a Kroger shopper since I was 15 years old. My Mother would send me to our neighborhood Kroger which was only 2 blocks away. I have been a loyal Kroger shopper all my adult life. If I was somewhere there was a Kroger, I would search until I found one. No other grocery store has the specials that Kroger has on their weekly ads. Horrible experiences, as in plural. Click list charged me for items I did not get - like ten items-, then the next time nobody came out after calling and sitting there for ten minutes while the people sat out front smoking cigarettes. Spoke to a manager about the missing items, was assured I was mistaken or that it wouldnt happen again if it did happen. Called the corporate number the second time and just told them not to worry about it. They are making a good case for Amazon - thats for sure!

I was there for the buy 5 get $5 off deal. I asked one lady if there was more of a certain soap product in the back. She said it wasnt her department to ask the lady walking by. I asked her & she said she just got there & hasnt seen any, then walked away in a hurry. I asked a young guy & he looked in the back for me, but didnt see any more. There was no expiration dates on the Krogers-brand link sausage. I like how on the website where it indicates the aisle the product is on.

Customer service is dismal at this location. They never have products that they offer coupons for and when you try to find help beyond a no they just walk away. One time was fortunate to talk with Store manager and he was helpful and offered to price match to coupon for another comparable product...came back a few days later and was told that isnt policy and whom ever did that should have been fired, but when i said his name they flipped their opinion and decided to match. There is no uniformity to what is considered customer satisfaction and could care less if we leave happy or pressed off...Just Remember they is always Publix, Aldi, as well as Lidl just down the road and they are all willing to take up the customers Kroger is willing to throw away.

When I’m back at the yard I shop on stock my truck for the long haul. I love that the deli has Boarshead meats, my favorite. Excellent produce and a nice clean store and friendly staff.

I am truly disappointed with Krogers checkout system as it forces you to use a pin number with any debit card that has a Mastercard logo. I can usually choose to opt out at other retailers. Kroger needs to update their system or Ill be buying groceries somewhere else.

Went grocery shopping and they had NO lanes open. Only self check-out. I went shopping for an entire week of food. It took us 20 min to check out. Super inconvenient. Do not go grocery shopping here after 8:30 PM. Will not be doing my shopping here again.

New England based grocery store specializing in high end products mixed with store brand products designed to save money for the consumer. Can be very competitive with other stores, thereby saving even more. Overall very good, though still falls behind Publix in the same catagories

Kroger was my go to place for 6 years. Since the remodel, the organization of the store makes no sense, items that I have bought at least once a month...normal things I might add, they have stopped carrying...as convenient as they have been, its probably about time to switch to Wal-Mart, not as convenient but I know I dont have go hit two stores to complete my shopping list.

I have been shopping at the store for many years. The click list pick up has become a nightmare. Many weeks I have to wait over an hour for them to get my order prepared. And I have even been called and told that they could not do it on the day that it snowed. Today I was notified and told that I was only going to get a limited quantity of an item that I ordered. There were no limits but yet if you go through the click list pick up they are limiting quantities to make sure that everyone is able to get some off of the shelf. I am Very frustrated with the attitude of the staff and will stop shopping at the store as a result.

Great products and prices. But every time I go, its almost impossible to get s parking spot. I went today. There were so many carts piled into a spot, that one rolled and hit another car. I parked next to those carts cuz thats all I could find after circling so many times. On either side of the carts, it was very hard to park. When I came out of the store, there were even more carts! I tried to maneuver them so I could back out. Several tried to roll away. I saved 70 cents though. 😂😂

Love Pharmacy staff! They know their customers, and look out for them.Im not loving the store as much as I used to before the remodel. Frequently I have difficulty with how my groceries are bagged. Sometimes the baggers are more focus on chatting with the customer and not as much as how groceries are packed. For example my perishables were in a plastic bag and not an insulated bag. And one bag loaded to the top while other bags had two or three items.

This place is maddening in their apathy To pro I ding the best in variety. The only place that seems to have it all is the bar. All other departments can’t seem to get things write. No molasses, fennel, riddicio, out of yukon gold potatoes. Over several trips I can now count on Kroger to have less one ingredient for any particular recipe! 🤬Overall lack of leadership! Management needs to be present and ensure this does not happen.
