For many years, Ive been using Monro Auto Service at Chester, NY for regular oil changes and major repairs. Store manager Jeff and his staff are knowledgeable, courteous. and charge very reasonable price. Im grateful that they have managed to keep the shop running during the pandemic, overcoming short-staffed situations many times.
I have been a loyal customer since the early 90s and today was my last time bringing my car there for service. In the beginning the service was great and I was very happy. Threw the years the Chester location went threw different managers and I get but I also noticed that as time went on the location was not the same. Two months ago I took my 2011 outlander in for front shocks and was quoted a $1,000. price for the job, at the same time my wife was at her shop getting a oil change so I asked her guy for a quote on the shocks. He quoted $385. for the same job. Now we get to today, wife made a appointment yesterday for a break job for the front and and she had asked about my break warranty and she was told all was good with it. Today I take it in for the job on the front breaks and after taking off all the wheels off he tells me that it will cost me a $1,000. Now mind you that I just went in for the front breaks so I brought up to him that I have a life time warranty on the breaks at that point he looks me up in the system and tells me that my car is not in the system how can I not be in there I have had 6 cars go though that shop since 1992. I will not recommend Monroe Muffle to any one that asks me and I will be finding a new location to take my car. So yes, no I will not be going back! The one star given is for my experience with them in the early years.
I was well taken care of. The prices were also reasonable and was in and out fast. Their customer service is on point!!! Definitely coming back
BUYER BEWARE!!! Very poor experience! They try to sell you on all these services that actually ruin your car! I should have known better but I stupidly took my car here to get four new tires and just have them top off the fluids.. SIMPLE RIGHT? Not so much apparently... Well I happen to know a bit about cars and they did absolutely nothing except remove my old tires and throw on the new ones I paid for. They didnt touch the fluids I made a mark with a permanent marker as per my husband told me to and Im glad he did because these people are liars and scammers do not give them business! They dont care about their employees let alone customers as I have heard horror stories about working there as well. Play should be shut down by now
I called Munro Auto service in Chester NY this morning because I had a nail in my tire and the air was leaking quickly. I asked the associate who answered the phone if I could come in and have it plugged, and he proceeded to say they are not opened yet(it was 7:45 and the website said open). I asked him when they open and he said 8AM. I asked if I can come in, and he said no they are too busy this morning with other things and are not able to plug it. WOW, it does not take a long time to plug a tire. I will NEVER use their service or recommend their service to anyone! He definitely needs training on how to speak to customers!
Was on a time crunch and called over there for service spoke with frank was so accommodating and helpful. Made me a new customer!!!! Best customer service I’ve seen ..

Very nice guys, made an appointment for an alignment, to mount a tire I provided and to check my brakes. Turned out my rotors were warped and needed to be replaced. They insisted on getting the parts themselves. They got autozone rotors and pads for 130 bucks and charged me 200 for parts. They quoted me 635 dollars for everything, or 500 for just the brakes. I should’ve said no but I had to get them done. Absolutely ridiculous they charged me more than 300 dollars for labor on replacing pads and rotors. Never coming back
We drove from Brooklyn to Legoland. I kinda heard a pop while driving and tire pressure warning light went on. I was so worried. I dropped my families off to Legoland and got here to check if any leaks from tire. Its gonna be a long wait as they are busy. A gentleman name Toby who works there saw my frustrations, he helped me quickly check the tire pressure with gauge. Everything was fine and helped me reset the warning sign. He has made my day, otherwise I couldnt enjoy much at the theme park.

Went in for an oil change and was happy that it was done rather quickly plus they did a tire rotation at no extra charge. However, am dismayed at the counter person because I made an error on how the work was being paid. He became rude and obnoxious. He just had to redo the work order and it didnt take long to correct the issue. He did apologize before I left but there was no need to get rude to begin with. He gave me a business card but I threw it out as soon as I left. Do you think I want to go back there after being spoken to like that? Its a shame too cause i was hoping to make it my place to go for my vehicles, I have 3. So 3 stars for fitting me in last minute and quick oil change + tire rotation but also bad customer service skills. Oh well, on to the next!
Jeff was extremely helpful and polite. Professional setting and ultimately great work!I love the new muffler on my 2021 Ram 1500.Yes, I will continue to bring my vehicle for future oil changes and tire replacements. 👍👍👍
I am very disappointed with Monro Tire in Chester NY. After using them for years, they have changed management since I came back to NY and their customer service is horrible now. I have never been treated so rudely in my life. Not to mention the place was a disaster it appeared as if they no idea what they are doing. I walked out in disgust and found a different Tire Company to take my vehicle to. They do not wear masks at all, even the people behind the counter! I dont know what happened since I used to go here but unfortunately now I would never go back since they must have changed Management.
Completely unsafe conditions during a pandemic none of the employees wear masks. The facility was filthy when I went in it and I felt very unsafe. We are in a pandemic and wearing a mask is very important, I dont understand why these employees think they are above that? I was planning on using them for regular oil changes but after my experience I will never go here again as I was truly shocked at the lacking of procedures during the Coronavirus Pandemic. I guess Monro Tire does not care about the safety of both their customers and employees!
Tried to charge me double what the same business in Middletown quoted for the same job. When I asked why Jeff said have a nice day and hung up. Super unprofessional,go to Middletown. Previous job they had to take my motor apart 3 times because they tried to put the cheapest aftermarket knock sensor possible which kept failing.
I just bought a new car and needed to get my inspection done. I contacted Monro in Chester, NY and spoke with Jeff about my situation. He told me to come in despite having a busy schedule and accomodated my needs. When I arrived, Jeff was very courteous and pleasant. The other staff members were also very friendly and waved hello to me. That made my experience an exceptional one and this is why I will always service my vehicle at Monros because this company truly depicts customer service. I live further north and I have been going to Monros for years. Thank you Jeff for your kindness and exceptional service!!! God bless you all!!!!

I am posting a one-star review for this company I warn everyone do not try to work at this company or bring your vehicle there. I went there for an interview and was told that I needed to start a onboarding process which was basically just an application. I set foot in the building one time meanwhile I was collecting unemployment benefits because I was out of work due to covid my mother had cancer at the time and I could not be a risk or a burden to her however when it was time for me to return to work and I decided to try Monroe in Chester New York everything seemed great at first they were ready to hire me meanwhile during my onboarding process it had come to light that my license was expired so the gentleman told me that his HR department told him that I would not be able to fill out proper tax forms without a valid license I went through hell to get my license in expectation to take the job after many weeks of correspondence I was told that no the reason I needed the license was purely for a motor vehicles background check. The whole time this is going on I was receiving calls from Monroes HR department asking me to sign up for healthcare 401k and other benefits again meanwhile I had not even spoke to anyone about compensation. After finally gathering the right documents my license etc etc I reached out to a Frank who I believe is the regional manager and let him know that I had gotten everything straightened out he then informed me that they went a different way I thanked him and I asked him to please contact me if there were any other openings or if anything changed. Several weeks had gone by and I received a phone call from Frank who informed me that whatever situation they had did not work out and that they were still interested in me coming to work for them he generally went over the pay scale with me while I was driving and unfortunately I wasnt able to write down any of the information so I texted him and asked him to send me a rate sheet and then never heard back from him. The next thing I know my unemployment is stopped for an unknown reason at the time about a week later I received a letter from Monroe with Cobra information and a letter basically telling me I was terminated from a position I never once held never took never set foot inside of the building other than the very first time I was there. I had then called Frank upon getting this information to find out what was going on after many calls to HR fell on deaf ears. I had also received a phone call from a third party who I cant identify and really wasnt supposed to give me this information told me that this was something that this company did regularly to people and that I needed to fix the situation right away and that it would not be easy. Subsequently I have spoken with Frank who will not oblige any of my requests to remove me from their system he will not honor any of my requests to speak to HR and frankly was quite nasty to me now when I first went for the interview I was basically told how Monroe works and let me just say if you take your car there youre dumber than me for trying to work there. This company is a scam both working for it and using it. I would say anyone else out there whos ever had this happen to them contact department of Labor as I have get a lawyer do whatever you have to do to get them to take you off of their employment list and to forward the proper information to unemployment. During all of this I happen to lose my mother to cancer and knowing that theres people out there doing this to people in my situation who are just trying to help their family is disgusting I have never in my life wrote a review this long or this terrible about anybody this company has put me through hell and back and I have never ever worked a single second for them but I am now paying the price as if I had. Do yourselves a favor and stay far far away from this company!!!
Unfortunately I cannot comment on my horrible experience at this place as I am suing them and currently in process of doing so however as a response to the owner youre not disappointed with the review youre just upset because your reviews are horrible. Stay away from this company everyone because what happened to me here should never happen to a woman!

First time in this mechanic shop and I will be back for sure .Alex the manager was very helpful and explained what my car needed.I didn’t know how frequently I have to check my tires or how safe it is to have snow tires during the winter.My husband and I are not very good keeping up with all the needs of my car, But now knowing that Monro muffler could fix everything in a few hours we definitely will be back for any other problem that my car will have.I am only posting this review because they deserve five star.I am very happy with their assistance.

I recently went here because it was recommended to me as “cheaper” and “better” than my usual place. I even had a coupon to use which was ultimately the deciding factor! I went in for an oil change - was in and out within 15 minutes at most. However, when I went to use their oil change coupon, I was told they couldn’t use that specific oil in my car because the motor was “too new” ???? That’s NEVER happened before... $40 later.... I should’ve just gone to my usual place... at least they don’t charge me THAT much.After paying, I returned to my car as the front desk guy was yelling to the mechanic to put the mileage on the sticker in my window so I know when to get another oil change and the kid only put the date that I received the oil change.... as if THAT is going to be useful??? Absolutely ridiculous. 3 stars because I was in and out fairly quickly but I surely won’t be going back. Overall not a great experience.As a side note - the person who recommended them is a mechanic himself and when I told him how it went, he stated they completely ripped me off because my motor absolutely is not “too new” for conventional oil...
I understand that they were closing soon, but I had a slow leak in my tire and needed to drive back home to the city. The guy said it would take at least twenty minutes to fix it and sent me away. Not the best business practice. We did not exchange words, but Id rather leave my car on the side of the road, than let these guys have my money.

Went to go for my routine oil change. Again, Alex the manager and his staff never seem to disappoint. Alex is so friendly and knows so much about the job he does. He convinced me to get synthetic oil since my car is getting older and I plan to keep this car around until it dies. I’m not big on knowing everything I should know about cars so I’m pleased that Alex informed me about basic car information .Good to see someone who care about the job and the people they serve. I have visited this site for several years and have not been disappointed. The people are always professional and I have been pleased with their service. I have left other places in the past if I feel I cant trust what is being said or feel I am being taken advantage of. My last visit at Monro was for brake service and they were very thorough. Came for a late in the day inspection. Even during a snow storm they had time to fit me in. In and out and even had the wipers changed. 👍👍
Alex the manager was super helpful and knowledgeable along with the staff. They took their time to show me what was wrong with my vehicles brake system and it really was informative. Their phone customer service is great. I always love to get price estimates over the phone. Monroe always uses simple language that everyone can understand. This builds trust between the customer and the technician. They are not condescending and they make sure that I understand. They also usually invite me to their shop so they can give a better price estimate and start the exciting project. Unfortunately due to my unfavorable circumstances I regretfully decline this wonderful invitation. It is so nice to know that Monroes skilled technicians will help you keep your old car on the road even IF YOU CANNOT VISIT THEIR SHOP. They always do things the Monroe way!!! : )

Anytime I come here I feel welcomed and the team always explains and breaks down in detail about any problems if they see any that is going on with my car. Came here as an emergency, we live in NYC and were in the area by chance. My husband got a flat and there wasn’t anywhere open in the neighborhood. Monro Tire Shop was also closed but Alex made an Exception and helped us. The process took less than 10 minutes Isaac was great! Thank god for such amazing people you don’t come across people who want to help!!!

Polite people, fast turn around, and great quality of work. I def recommend this shop. Brian Keller the store manager was really accommodating and a great guy. He got my car and truck in there new tires installed and inspected both vehicles in a timely manner. Also pointed out that there was a few stores just across the parking lot to browse while the cars were being serviced . By the time I got back the vehicles were completed. Perfect service . Highly recommended. A++++++ service from Brian and his team.

Alex and Ben were so helpful. I came in on a Monday morning because my coolant light came on my dash as I was on my way to work. They inspected my car and quickly identified a leak. After they ordered the part, they installed it and were able to send me off to work! Thank you!

Went in asked the price for synthetic oil change... about 65.00, fine left the car and came back when I received the call to pick it up.. Got there and the guy behind the counter said all done 21 dollars and some change. Right away I asked him if they put regular oil in my car because the price for synthetic oil change was 65.00. The answer was yes wait 15 mins and we will correct the error.. No problem we are all human things happen at times. I told him Ill be back just call when done.. Recieved call to come back pick up car its done..Got the regular discount for working at the same plaza.... 5 bucks wish it was more (maybe another 5 bucks for the error)..Walked out after paying no biggie again things happen.. Ill give them another shot on my next oil change.. Got in car and the first thing I looked for is the sticker on window for next oil change date which was not there so I had to go back in and ask.. He said 5k from mileage on car which he told me and then I left...I think 3 stars is fair for a first impression..Id recommend them though to be fair they seem very busy with a lot to do so Ill be back if Im welcomed...
Friendly service. The gentleman who handled the details of my car went above and beyond when I called looking for some items that I had mistakenly left in my car. He made sure to seek them out and gather the items for me before my car (that had been totaled) was taken away on a truck. These items (memorial prayer cards) were very important to me and he didnt have to try to help me out but he did and it continues to mean so much! Thank you!
Yeah - its true. Alot of turnover at this shop. But yesterday I had a such a wonderful experience there. Needed an oil change - but i also asked to swap winter tires for regulars. Ben was honest and said they were too busy - but asked if I could bring it back. When I went to pay bill, he said he made the time to take care of it. Overnight I also discovered I had left my expensive Beats headphones in the waiting area. When I returned this morning, Ben happily produced them and wished me a nice day. That doesnt happen often in NY. Ben is a classy, stand-up guy - and you dont find that often at these chain tire shops. That alone is reason to go there. Most important - they will take good care of your car. Thanks Ben.
Alex is a great manager. Hell tell you what the issue is and work with you on how it should be handled if it cant all be done at once. Matt is a wonderful mechanic, he always works on my car and I never have to worry. Hes thorough and efficient!

I just bought my car, and took for a overall check for brakes, found out my 2 front tires were no good. But thanks to Alex and his team for a great job, I feel safe and secure to drive on the road again. They were very knowledgeable and friendly, I will recommend them to friends and family. Went to the Chester Monroe muffler to ask the technician if he could check the under carrier of my friends car since he had run over a deer that morning.... not only did he do it, but he also attached the piece that was hanging loose and check the tires pressure when he notice the tire pressure light was on on the dash when he took the car inside. Great Job!! . Ben.
Called them at 8:15am and asked if I can drop off the car for an oil change and new tires. I was told that only 1 tech is working today, that there are 14 other appointments ahead of me and they can`t promise to get it done today. Went over to Mavis Tire and they got it all done in less than 3 hours. Thanks Mavis, that`s what I call customer service!
I’m writing this review in reference to an oil change I had done on my vehicle this week. Without a doubt I got the BEST price & service!!! They tried other methods prior to changing the compressor. My AC is working!!! I’m completely satisfied with the service & pricing! Thank you Alex & Ben!! I will continue to service my car @ Monro in Chester!!!

As a long time resident of Chester, I have been relying on this business to keep my car right for many years. They have serviced countless cars for my family and most recently replaced a tire for my newest. This guy Rob took my issue with less than an hour to spare before closing shop, and not only did he fix us up immediately, he squeezed us in last second, was VERY professional, VERY polite, and just gives me another reason to keep returning. What a guy! THANK YOU ROB AND MONRO MUFFLER for getting me back on the road in time for work tomorrow morning!!!
Alex the store manager managed to squeeze me in for a quick oil change and was super helpful! John worked on my car and was fast and efficient and even put new wipers on my car just before a snowstorm! I always come here because of their fast and friendly service, they’re literally the best here!

Around 4 pm today (Saturday) part of my exhaust system broke. I wasn’t sure if I needed a new exhaust system or not. I called Munro Muffler and spoke with Alex. He said to bring my car up and they’d take a look at it and see what they could do. His mechanic, John, looked at my car and it turned out that it was a relatively easy fix. I was in and out in under an hour and under $100.Some places I’ve dealt with in the past have tried to sell me a new exhaust system but not here. It was great to deal with the people at Munro Muffler. I highly recommend them.
My first service was GREAT! I was at first greeted in the phone with a friendly and professional gentleman whose name is Alex. When I was on the phone in the morning he TOTALLY knew what my car’s problem was off the bat without going around and trying to diagnose it. I knew it wasn’t going to be cheap but they made me feel confident and assured me that that was the right place to take it and I didn’t think twice. I had a GREAT mechanic (Mike) who is honest and fair but distance wasn’t convenient and is always packed and busy and there’s always a time wait. But soon as I got to the Monroe Tire Service I didn’t wait longer than 30 min and got my car back the same day. Short staffing issues and long work hours isn’t always anyone’s cup of tea but (2 workers on board) I was given a quick attention and care I needed just like all other costumers that day.Thank you for a great experience having Alex and his man work on my car. I would definitely take my other 2 cars there and would definitely come again for service .
Alex, Matthew & John were fantastic! I called late in the evening because my car started shutting down out of nowhere. I live out of State and needed to return home in the morning. I didn’t know what I was going to do, but these men took me in without any appointment and within minutes of closing their shop, fixed my car! I appreciate their flexibility, kindness and excellent customer service. Matthew went out of his way to get the parts needed and do the work after a long day. I recommend them to any local or out-of-towner!

I am saddened to hear that Brian has been transferred to a different store. The team is a great team. The team members I am referring to are Brian, John and Ben. To break up this team was a really bad decision. The current manager is not very knowledgeable. I am disappointed that the reputation of Monroe Muffler is changing.I am an ongoing customer and really put my trust in the hands of the team that has been broken up. If the techs: John and Ben leave I will be forced to bring my business to wherever these techs end up. Again it was a bad decision to break up this team!!!!!!!!I will give 5 stars for the team but 1 star to Corporate.

Was in this store last week for an oil change and tire rotation. The mechanic Ben was very polite courteous and knowledgable. When my car was done he suggested to me that the brakes be done soon as they were getting pretty worn (I already knew this) he also told me I was in desperate need of an alignment. He proceed to show me on my tire why he said this and that the way my tires were wearing would lower their life expectancy! I will totally be returning to have this service and more done!! Went in for a car inspection, the gentleman working on my car was kind and was very personable!! Alex at the front desk was extremely nasty. I made an appointment the day prior and took time off from work to go. When I arrived he was extremely aggressive and had no manners what so ever. My car needs work to pass the inspection and I’ll be sure to take my business elsewhere because of him!
Horrible attitude...my husband went there to repair cat converter and they were not professional or courteous. Basically rushed him away.

Went to this location because I was passing through the area on a trip when all of a sudden my right rear wheel on my minivan locked up!! Having no idea what the reason was as I was with my wife and 7 kids i started to panic because I am a computer guy, I can rebuild a laptop in a hour when it comes to cars I couldnt even tell you where my oil goes under the hood or what dipstick thing is for what anyways I was met by man named Brian behind the counter I explained what happened as I was driving my minivan along and he got me right in and diagnosed my caliper was seized 1 hour or so later and at a very reasonable price (I called around and checked prices when I got home) I was on my way! kudos Brian for saving the day for my family and saving our yearly vacation ...will recommend this location to everyone as long as this team of people are there!!!!
I have been to this shop about 5-6 times in the past year. I am officially done with this place. The people working there are horrendous. Nice to your face but completely screw you over when your car is on the lift. I go there for the oil change/ tire rotation special that they offer. Only 1/2 of the time they actually do rotate the tires. (I know because of the markings on my tires. The prior visit they broke one of the wheel studs on my car and wanted to charge me $60 to fix it. They are breaking because they over tighten them with the air guns.My most recent visit was the final reason why I wont be returning to this dump. They changed the oil, then overfilled the engine with new oil. (Which is just as bad as not putting enough oil in). Not just slightly over filling a little either. I now have to open the drain and empty the pan. They only rotated 1 side of the car. I came to find out that they didnt rotate the other side probably because they broke another lug on the same tire and did t tell me about it. I found out later that day when I noticed to nut wedged into the hubcap.Be advised, they run a good deal with their oil change/ tire rotation price. But the savings arent worth the headache. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THIS SHOP.
Alex, the store manager, was very welcoming and gave excellent advice. His crew did great work. Looking forward to more oil changes here 😄

Terrible people. Manager at desk laughed at me when I complained. My wife got a flat tire just needed help swapping flat tire with spare. Would have even paid. They said we need to drop off for the day because he had another appt coming in. WOW. Say no to the customer in front of you for maybe someone else coming in 15 Minutes. Poor customer service. Just an FYI went a mile down the street was in and out in 15 minutes and I tipped the guy $20. Thats a place I will come back too. Not this terrible place. Poor poor poor.

Brought my car in for a noise that I was sure meant I needed to replace my breaks. After checking over my car Brian and his team did not try to upsale breaks to me when they in fact did not need replacing. So grateful for the excellent service I received! I will be returning here for all future service on my car and have recommended to all of my friends and family!
Went to the Chester location to get oil changed and muffler looked at. The muffler had holes which I was able to see myself. I was told that both catalytic converters needed to be done because my car would not pass inspection. I was also told that there would be a charge of $300 to diagnose the complete exhaust system (above the the catalytic converters). left with an estimate of $2800.00. I received a second opinion and they told me that the catalytic converters were fine and completed the job for under $500.00 and my car passed inspection. Shame on Monro. I was in because I had a rattling noise coming from my tire. Ben took the tire off and discovered a price of my brake was missing. He replaced the pads on both sides and while putting the tires back on discovered a nail in one which he plugged rather than trying to sell me a new tire. The entire staff was courteous and the wait time was reasonable.
New manager is not providing good service. Bought two tires within 6 months and thread was finished. I did not buy the warranty on product but I find it insane and surprising that the two tires I bought from them weren’t good. I asked why and they don’t know why. He said it could be over inflation, yet I only bring car to them.Horrible experience.

Called and got a appointment the same day for a State inspection, I waited for the work and it was completed very quickly. They also informed that my low key battery warning was on that I didnt see before. Very professional staff. Will recommend them to my family and friends.

Alex and John were both great! John really listened to what I was trying to explain about a noise I was hearing when I hit a bump in the road. When he couldnt find anything, I said I know Im hearing something - It would have been really easy to blow it off or say theres nothing wrong that he could see - but he had me come in to show me some of the things that could have been wrong - but were ok - he kept poking around and it turns out there was a piece of a rusted bracket from the battery that was hanging down that was making the weird clanging noise. Problem solved!
I got pulled over for my brake light being out and I called to see if they could get me in, and despite only having 2 guys and being completely booked all day, they got me in and out in 20 minutes. Beyond grateful for this team here. Thanks Ben!
