Nice people and easy to deal with for odds and ends materials, I’ll be back in the future.
This place is good for short pieces, small orders, and odd sizes. Single cut to length. But dont use them for any complex or precise cuts. Very sloppy layout work and ragged edges. Not a single square corner or straight edge in the 20 plates they made for me. They have no concept of precision.
This place is an absolute rip-off. I needed a piece of sheet metal really bad and the owner knew that and he charged me over three times what everybody else wanted to charge me. I was naive and didnt know that. I needed to bring the product back the next day because I didnt need it. The owner told me over the phone it will be a $20 restocking fee which I thought was fair When I got there he told me that the restocking charge was 40% of the cost of the product. This guy took advantage of me when I bought the product and then he took advantage of me when bringing it back. Absolute con artists!
I would give this place no stars if I could. I guess this places main business is supplying uncut metal. They cant fabricate worth a damn. They cant make things to a print. Bob, the owner doesnt care about his customers.
Always helpful and efficient. Materials are almost always immediately available, if not they are ordered and ready in a day or so.
Nice people but double the price of charlotte metal supermarket. i can get a 20 foot piece of stock for 139 and here they want to charge 130 for a 10 foot. make sure you call around so you dont get ripped off
Bob at the counter will double the price of your order upon arrival unless you can pay cash.Happily took my business elsewhere
Freedom always takes great care of Diesel Doctors - fantastic relationship!
Great place, had just what I needed and cut it to size for me
I ordered some large beams from them and they were cut to the wrong length and when I called and told them of this, the owner said well, you didnt tell us you wanted them exact. Wow! There are other steel suppliers out there that I have changed to.
Very helpful and Mr. Bob gives best service around. Since i,am ain the welding business. The welding Guy LLC
Nice people, always have the sheet metal I need at a decent price.
We purchased two (2) 1/2 steel flitch plates from Freedom Metals, Inc. on 05/20/16. I placed the order with Bob, who owns Freedom Metals. His price was higher by several hundred dollars than another local competitor (whom we usually use for our metal needs), but I chose Freedom Metals because they could deliver the plates when I needed them. We had a hard deadline and these plates needed to be installed by 05/25/16.FYI: A flitch plate is a steel plate that gets sandwiched between wood lvls, in lieu of an I beam.We discussed the length of the flitch plates needed to be 229 each and that I need 1/2 staggered holes 24 apart predrilled. Bob asked me if it mattered if the holes were drilled or burned and I told him no, as long as there were holes. We discussed the 24 stagger, because it was clear that I did not fully understand the significance of staggering. I specifically expressed to Bob that it didnt matter where (as in distance from the edges ONLY) he placed the first holes as long as they were consistent. These two questions are the ONLY questions Bob asked me concerning the flitch plates. They were delivered Monday 05/23/16 as promised. Awesome! ... but when it was time to install (05/25/16) we discovered one steel plate was 5/16 too long and the other was 1/4 too long, and the flitch plate holes did not align. The owner of Old House Restoration Company called Bob, the owner of Freedom Metals, where Bob said the only recompense he could offer is to have the plates picked up, corrected and delivered at a later date. This is not an agreeable solution as the plates need to be installed today, 05/25/16 no exceptions. We have a deadline. Bob is non-nonchalant and seems unaffected by our urgent need for his assistance, and now we are angry. We ask for a refund of at least some of the cost as we are now required to buy or rent tools capable of cutting through 1/2 steel on top of labor expense to cut the plates (lets not forget the staff on-site standing around waiting for this to happen).Bobs response was a resounding no, because there was nothing wrong with the material, and we should have known there is an Industry Standard Tolerance of up to 1/4 with 1/2 steel, and [...] was not told to be exact. Bob also blamed me for the holes not being aligned because I did not tell him they were a pair for the same flitch plate/lvl application. I quote for all I know one was going to one side of Charlotte and the other to a whole nother place ... even though I coordinated with him to have them delivered to the same jobsite, together. Is this a case of Oh well, you ordered it wrong or a case of poor or inadequate sales and/or customer service? As a business owner/professional you want to relay to your customers as much information as possible so they do not make mistakes and order the wrong material. I would think this would be common practice in an industry where having correct measurements is imperative. Bob is the professional metal manufacturer and should have asked more pertinent questions to ensure mistakes such as these were not made. While talking to Bob he was not concerned in the least about the predicament we just found ourselves in, his shoulder-shrug was almost audible. Time and again he blamed me for the mistakes, telling me that “if you (I) order so much metal then you (I) should know about industry standards”.One of the most unprofessional business owners I have come across. We will not be doing business with Freedom Metals, Inc. again.
