These guys were very helpful when I was having trouble locating a door for my 62 Bug. They found one and sold it for a fair price. I recommend Monkey Nut to anyone needing help with their vintage car.

Nice guys. Very knowledgeable about air-cooled VWs and Porsches. They are the preferred shop for most people in Charlotte who have nicer VW cars - doing a combination of restoration and mechanical work.If you’re looking for a VW Microbus expert - they are definitely the guys. They are well known nationally and highly involved in the bus community. If you go over there - theres usually a few Beetles (old and new), some really nice busses, maybe a few VW Things, etcThey are reasonably priced in-between the local mechanics that don’t know much about Volkswagens and the really nice restoration shops that take forever and charge a fortune. They helped me restore a 69 convertible Ghia thats a major show winner and then went on to work on other cars I’ve acquired. They always focus on getting the car safe and reliable before moving on other things. I take all cars on 100-200 mile trips and they’ve never broken down once. They have many times been honest with me about whether a procedure is really necessary or useful or if my money might be better spent doing it differently.Like most good VW shops they are laidback and also very busy. The owner travels often and responds best to email. Every now and then the doors will be locked and no one will be there during the workday or at a time when they said they would be there. It hasnt been a big deal - but I have had to wait 10 or 15 minutes before the staff reappeared from lunch, etc. Once or twice I’ve shown up to drop off my car at an agreed upon time and found the gates are locked. In every case, it worked out - without any major hassle. All in all, I really like these guys and They have been way better than other VW specialists Ive tried. Jake, the owner, and Dave, the lead mechanic, have gone out of their way to do nice things for me - like explaining how things work or delivering a large removable hardtop to my house so I wouldnt have to rent a truck to go pick it up.Highly recommend them

Very trustworthy shop! They are enthusiasts who love old VWs. They did a complete mechanical restoration of my 1958 Beetle. They exceeded my expectations in every way. They will continue to service & modify my 58 in the future. Thanks Jake & crew!

I recently had my 1960 VW Westfalia repaired by Jake @ Monkey Nut. My bus was in great shape cosmetically, but the prior owner had sadly neglected the mechanical components of the bus. It ran fair, but leaked a lot of oil, had occasional starting issues and the brakes were poor. Jake fixed it all!! My Westfalia now runs like Swiss watch and starts every time. Jake installed CBS front disk brakes and now it brakes well for a 58 year old VW. Jake provided expert suggestions all during the engine rebuild; he really knows his stuff and genuinely cares about properly repairing your VW. Most important of all, you can trust him. Had my bus trailered all the way from Greensboro, NC and I am very glad I did so. Oh and by the way...........not one drop of oil has leaked from the engine since Jake repaired it!!
