I found Cupcake purely by accident while walking through Downtown Charleston one summer while visiting family on Johns Island. Holy. Cow! Their flavors change daily, and every cupcake is a delicious, mouthwatering work of art. I always make it a point to stop by when I’m in the low country.

Top marks for these cupcakes! Cupcakes are one of those things that can ask several different people for the perfect cupcake and get several different answers. That being said, these fit my definition. Light, not dry cake portion, with a good healthy dose of dense frosting with flavor and substance. Definitively sweet without that being the defining quality. Family approved, and not too big to try more than one flavor.

We stopped in for a treat for our son. We had a great experience here! He loved his cupcake and we really enjoyed ours as well. It’s a great place to bring your kids for a little afternoon snack or after dinner dessert.

If youre downtown looking for a sugar rush these cupcakes will do the trick. The flavor selection here is bananas and I feel like they rotate their offerings day to day. If you were wondering about the large cake-size cupcakes for hosting a party or event I highly recommend them (you need to order ahead). The quality is as good as the normal cupcakes themselves and whatever is left over will easily feed you and your friends for days.

Cute cupcake shop. One of our favorites quick dessert stops. The kids love the window display so they can pick. A little pricey for a cupcake especially if you want one boxed for an extra 2.25 but thats why we never just order one ;) Super cute space, great location and yummy cupcakes.

Cupcake DownSouth on King Street in Charleston is a great place to go for all things cupcakes and they are well worth the visit to check them out. I like just about the different flavors that they offer as each one tastes different and has its own unique taste. The staff here is very patient and helpful while you are deciding what to order. This is a good gift idea for many people too.

Little cute dessert shop that is worth your stop. My husband and I both got a cupcake shake. I got the caramel rum one and I can’t remember what he got... but they were both to die for. There wasn’t much of a wait. The service was quick. Nice gem!

On my trip to Charleston I wanted to get ice cream from the place next door, but it was crowded and expensive, so I went in here instead and am very glad I did. Its a very cute little shop and the cupcake was delicious. The cake quake, where they put ice cream between a cupcake, is a brilliant idea. I wanted to go back a second time, but they were closed when I got there and I had to go home cupcake-less. I highly recommend this place.

I love this place! The variety of cupcakes they have is amazing! The only thing that bothers me greatly is that I can only get my favorite cupcake seasonally (French toast cupcake). The shop is cute, the cupcakes themselves taste gourmet and great! Ive never had a particularly dry cupcake and I go often. But the best part is their sweet rewards! A free cupcake when you sign up and coupons throughout the year. Plus, I can get a free cupcake with every 7 cupcakes I buy! Not bad at all! Love it here and its on the lower price range for gourmet cupcakes. Some places you can pay up to $6 for just one. Great place!

Great cupcake. The icing to cake ratio is a little disproportionate. There is a lot of icing, but nothing you cant just lop off and enjoy! The coconut cake was moist, and the red velvet had the exact amount of chocolate without being too much.

When we arrived we were told the cupcakes were two for one which was great until we began eating them. All four cupcakes were very dry and crumbled like cornbread. Even at half price the quality was not worth the purchase. We will never return

This place was quite amazing. They had alcohol infused cupcakes, they make Quakes (cupcake blended in icecream) and they had a daily menu of different flavored cupcakes! Came here with friends and everyone was very happy with their cupcake choice. Some went back for seconds and others bought more to go! The bread was moist and flavorful. The icing was a little too sweet for my taste but it also had a good flavor!

The packaging is horrible!! The red velvet cupcake frosting was good. The cupcake itself tasted bland. It tastes like a box cake. I make it from scratch so I can tell the difference. Youd think that they would at least place your cupcake in a box or something. It could even be a plastic to go container. It was put in a tissue paper!! Like more than ine cupcake in tissue paper? Really?? If youve run out of boxes, tell your customers or go get some more boxes! Absolutely ghetto for the price if tge cupcake. Guess I expected better based on the reviews...

The vanilla bean cupcake is just the perfect balence of soft cake and sweet rich icing .I ended up buying 1 and splitting it with my small toddler son.. I asked the girls that worked there for a cup of water and they told me that they were not allowed to hand out a cup of tap water and that I should buy a bottle. I found that to be a little annoying because it was just a silly cup of water for my son.

Amazing cupcakes. We had the chocolate cupcake with white icing. Very moist and the the icing was perfect. Highly recommend it. I want to know how the alcoholic cupcakes taste!

Very disappointed in the cupcakes. I bought two different ones and both were bad. One was unevenly baked and a little burnt. The second was so dense and dry that I ended up throwing it away. Expensive for poor quality and quantity. The size of the $3 - $4 cupcake barely went above the cupcake paper liner. I do not recommend.

There was nothing moist about the cake in these cupcakes today. We ordered three different ones and each one was dry! I felt like they might be a couple days old. I have to say that I have had great cupcakes from here in the past, so maybe it was just a bad day?

Let me start by saying I friggen love cupcakes, I have had so many cupcakes it would make peoples heads spin. This place is mediocre when it comes to the cupcake portion, the cake is moist but very dense. The cake portion is in my opinion- the best part of their cupcake. The frosting on the other hand is not very pleasant- way too sugary. And yes I know there is a lot of sugar in frosting, but this particular frosting takes like you are eating a straight sugar paste. Not really any good flavor to the frosting. The best frosting I have had there is on the bourbon pecan pie cupcake. That one is decent but still very high on the sweetness scale.

We had Cupcake Down South before the the huge surge of Cupcake shops on every street corner became a regular occurrence. After a short walk to get there through the beautiful Charleston streets, we were rewarded with a delicious cup cake. Plenty of choices to choose from and frosting stacked high mmmm.

Loved their cupcakes! They used to donate their day old cupcakes upon requests by organizations but now only donates em to nonprofits to help the low country. Good cause nonetheless.

I ordered two cupcakes, which the cashier placed on a piece of waxed paper for each - not even a plate! When I told her they were to go, she wrapped each one up in the wax paper and placed them side-by-side in a paper bag. Presentation is everything, and every decent cupcake shop that Ive been to has boxes to place the cupcakes in. It is extremely tacky to put cupcakes on wax paper, and/or wrap them in it and put it in a paper bag for customers to take with them… In addition to that, the chocolate cupcake lacked flavor, and the icing was supposed to be cream cheese, but tasted more like confectioners sugar and water. Although I was visiting Charleston, when I return this place will not be on my favs list.

Definetely the desert to stop by! Many different options, and the cake wasnt too rich. After a filling meal, this place hit the spot. Red velvet is a must.

I have never had a bad cupcake from here. My favorite is of course, Red Velvet. Coming as a close 2nd is the Salted Caramel. I dont live close but when I can, I make a trip for these delectable cupcakes down south.

Not very good. The flavors were completely off. They were either not strong enough or overpowering! The icing has no flavor other than sugar and cupcakes arent very moist. Ours were more hard and chewy than anything else. Only use this place as a last resort...even getting stoned didnt make these things any better...

These cupcakes look very appealing, but I would say they are just ok. Way too much icing for me, making it difficult to eat without a fork or spoon. Not even a close comparison to some other gourmet cupcakes Ive tried, but Ive still come here on occasion for cupcakes for parties or for a friends birthday. One morning before work, I decided I did want to get a cupcake to take to a friend for his birthday. I tried the door and it was open so I walked in, eager to get the cupcake so I could get to work. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Were not open yet to which I apologized, and at that point I didnt know whether to turn around and leave, (which I would have done if they preferred) or wait 2-3 minutes until 10 am for them to open. I was made to feel embarrassed for walking in to give business a couple minutes too early. However, they had no problem ringing me up for the cupcake right then and I was able to get on with my day. Seemed as though they just wanted to make a point that they werent open yet, which I will remember before going back there again.
