This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. We had heard about their true farm to table menu but this claim has become so prevalent that it’s hard to believe that it actually exists. It does at Herd Provisions. Everything we sampled was fresh, tasteful and well prepared. The best caprese salads we have had in a long time made with their own mozzarella and delicious heirloom tomatoes. The meat and fish dishes were prepared perfectly with plenty of sides and the service was attentive without being bothersome. We ate on the patio so noise level was not a problem although it didn’t seem to be much of a problem indoors either. Plenty of nearby free parking. Overall a pleasant dining experience. I give it 4.5 clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating System. The best score so far in Charleston.
Stopped in for lunch with some family in town from Asheville. The food was phenomenal! I had the burger and my wife had the chicken sandwich. Both were excellent, but pretty small portions (the main reason for the 4 stars). The dry rub wings were some of the best Ive ever had. They were hot (oven hot) and perfectly seasoned. The fries were also really good, but could have been a tad hotter. It did take longer than I expected to get our food, but that wont stop us from coming back. Definitely a great place to check out off the beaten path.
Excellent food quality, delicious cocktails, well-curated wine list! Friendly service in a comfortable environment! A regular, here....
Great food, great atmosphere. Surprised it wasn’t busier, it must not be that well known yet - it’ll certainly get there
Excellent service. Small menu but lots of great choices. Poutine appetizer was good - fries are a little on the crispy side but I like them that way. Steak was out of this world but I should have realized that Steak Fritze was coming with another load of crispy fries - in hindsight I would have asked for something else to go with the steak - my bad...not theirs. Mixed drink was just right - not too sweat. Not my everyday place but will definitely return a few times a year. We DID NOT use the Butcher Shop but it looked nice from the window. FREE parking across the street at the Citadel Baseball Field - limited spaces but more than enough when a baseball game is not being played.
Awesome spot. Great menu. Can’t wait to return. Maybe tonight. It’s that good!
My wife and I went for brunch today and had a wonderful meal with dessert. The owner and staff were very friendly,, gave us the history of the herd used in the restaurant. VERY enjoyable and will definitely go again.
This is my go to spot to chill. Its the perfect place to sit and get some work done, or go out with friends. Bartender Juleon is the BEST!! You crave it, hell make it. If youre not afraid of flavor this is the place. The menu isnt too big ( I personally LOVE THAT) but the options are killer!!! Checked out, you wont be disappointed....and they do brunch 😋
Excellent and attentive service, relaxed atmosphere, and a delicious meal... from the charcuterie and cheese tray to the NY strip entree. Sides and vegetables were cooked to perfection. Thank you. Will be on our shortlist to return.
Awesome food and great overall experience. Special thanks to Sadie and her dad for accommodating us! So much appreciated!!!!
Great food, some dishes come in small portions. Great service and atmosphere on the patio.
Awesome burger!! Definitely one of the best I’ve had!! Great fries too! Loved the outdoor patio! Will definitely come back!!
I dont know what was the best- the service (awesome!- Ethan I believe makes great drinks!) the space (fantastic design- and large patio) or the food (WOW!). We originally went just for a glass of wine- ending up trying 3 apps, having dinner and then going back twice- each time was a stellar experience. Highly recommend.
Best burger in Charleston. Put your money where your mouth is and enjoy some yummy farm to table eats!
Finally got a chance to go to Herd and loved it! Julian is so friendly and a awesome bartender! The James Dean cocktail was very refreshing! Oh and the grits in the Beef Creole were very creamy, just excellent! We will definitely be back!
After finding this place on the list of best places to eat in Charleston my fiance and I decided to give it a try for brunch since we were in town. We shared the poutine as it is a dish he had never tried and we both agreed it was delicious. I got the mushroom omelet which was light and fluffy and he got the French toast which was also a delight. The apple butter really does add something special to it. It is a little pricey to be a regular spot for us but worth it for the quality of the ingredients.
What a wonderful experience! I am a vegetarian and my husband is not. They had the perfect selections for the both of us without being overwhelmed by the menu! The service was excellent. The bread service was a unique feature! We will definitely be back and are excited to have tried this new gem.
Got a recommendation to come here and was so glad I did! Staff were friendly and professional and food was wonderful. Highly recommend the tomato & peach salad and the parsnip cake. Everything we ordered was delicious but those 2 stood out as the ‘winning’ dishes of the night.
What a great Farm to Table restaurant! The Farmers Plate, appetizer plate could have been a meal. Very creative menu. Great service and the French Fries were the best I have had in Charleston. Highly recommend the Herd.
Great food. Really enjoyed our dinner!
Came here last minute on a Sunday night, and had probably one of the best dining experiences of my life. I’ve lived in Charleston since I was two years old and have worked in food and bev for years, and I can confidently say I have never had more informative server, or perfectly seasoned meal. Amazing staff, amazing food, quick service. I’ve already recommended this place to all my friends, and will absolutely be back again! Wine pairings were also on point! If your looking for a unique experience, come eat and drink at herd provisions!
Good food and friendly staff.
Visited for drinks and fries. Very cool design in the dining room and bar. The fries seasoning was delicious! It did feel slightly chilly inside though.
Had a really bad birthday meal here. Everything was under-seasoned and bland. Steak had no char or sear...which was a crime since it was clearly a quality piece of meat. Even the poutine was meh and in need of more gravy as the fries were really dry. Would certainly take a pass... ingredients are great, but kitchen staff cant execute on the dishes.
Great dinner and wonderful friendly service. This new addition to the Charleston dining scene surely to be a hit as word gets out around town. The locally sourced meats and vegetables were prepared perfectly and presented in an interesting flavorful manner. Will recommend highly to family and friends. Try sharing the sourdough bread with the cauliflower entre as an appetizer for the table, it wont disappoint. The carrot side dish is also a must to accompany your main course. Cant wait to return next time we visit the holy city.
Nothing gets much better than their specialty--the HERD burger--and it was well worth the wait for their first brink-and-mortar restaurant to open its doors. After learning HERD officially opened today, my husband and I were anxious to check it out for lunch. I found the open, airy layout and rustic, clean design with artistic flair a nice surprise for a family-owned restaurant. The staff was friendly and the service was great. We look forward to returning often...for lunch, drinks or date night. HERD is a beautiful addition to Wagener Terrace...welcome to the neighborhood!
Food, atmosphere, and service were all excellent. Everything was fresh, prepared well and delish. I highly recommend. And they have happy hour!
Wonderful addition to the Wagner Terrace neighborhood. Beautiful interior, friendly staff, and thoughtful, delicious dishes. Have been there twice now and been very impressed with the service and food. Be sure to check out their poutine and other starters! Also, Juleon, the bartender that served us is a great human to interact with. I will be back for sure
No. To start off, your chef literally slacks off the entire time and gets paid for it, which I wish was a real job, but it’s not. The only thing that was actually pleasing about this atrocity was the vegetarian food, which filled the empty gap in my soul. I will give this place some credit for the owner having the audacity to go out and do something for once in his life, going up to his farm in Virginia and starting up this restaurant, which I would never had the confidence to put up. Overall, not something I would go to normally.
Service was good, Brussels sprouts were excellent, but all three cuts of Steak that we ordered were tough, full of grizzle, and lacking in flavor.
I think this was the best burger Ive had. Friendly staff, great beer, chill vibe .
🔥
Short 10 minute walk away and the food is great, but its quite pricey. Considering the distance, id love to make this place a regular stop, but its simply not worth the price. Well be back, just not regularly
2.5 Stars... New restaurant to the neighborhood, went with a friend to check it out. Staff came off as pretentious which made the experience unpleasant. The pompous vibe from the bartender doesn’t really fit the working class neighborhood of Wag-T. Really nice structure from the inside, large windows behind the bar would be great to gaze out of if they ever start offering affordable drink specials.
Delicious food, excellent service. Will definitely be going back!
My girlfriend and I drove in from Summerville to experience this place and after being ignored for around ten minutes decided to go elsewhere. Extremely disappointed in the lack of customer service that was presented.
Great for the area. Fantastic pricing and service. Keep it up!
Every single thing we ordered was incredible! Food, cocktails, and service were all top notch!
Try the poutine as an appetizer and the burger for lunch, you will not regret it!
Awesome space, yummy food and kind staff!
The best burger in Charleston!
Great service and food! Thanks Allay, Allee, Ali, Super Vegan and Beef burgees!
Food was awesome!
