This is not the same shop as when Scott Yelk was the service manager. His mechanic, Arnell is also gone. I used the 400 S Arizona location since 1982 when I brought in my 79 Plymouth for oil seals. My 99 Corrolla and 2015 Hyundai also got excellent service there. Now there is a new manager who doesnt have the same expertise as Scott and I believe he misdiagnosed a problem with the engine overheating. The diagnosis Scott gave me 2 weeks ago was a thermostat. I think I should check out another Pep Boys now

Let me share my experience in a factual manner.I had my car alternator replaced at this place once in 2017 and then again 2019. The alternator went bad each time while it was under warranty, so I was required to pay only for the cost of the part but I still had to pay for the labor and shop fee of $378. In addition to the labor cost, the first premature break-down killed my car battery, which costed me about $180. The second premature break-down left me stranded in another town in the middle of trip. I managed to get a new battery to drive my car home without AC turned on under tripe-digit degree temperature.In spite of such bad experiences, I still went back to spent thousands of dollars to have them service my car over the years - until this guy hung up on me during a heated conversation with me. Basically I told him about my experience with the second replacement alternator the next day when I got home and asked if I could take my car over for diagnosis and repair. He told me that no appointment was available until 5 days later. Not satisfied with his indifferent and curt answer, I attempted to talk him into finding me a sooner appointment by sharing with him my rather unfortunate experience and situation. As we talked, this guy quickly became argumentative and combative. He would not even told me his name; when I asked he just said I already told you and hung up the phone. This happened on Saturday 7/17/2021.I called another peps-boy in Chandler, which is a little farther from my home. They did not have appointment available either until later next week, but they would take in my car and try to find time working on it in-between the already scheduled appointments. So they have my business.

We were in a bad spot with our vehicle shutting off on us and not starting. We waiting 4 1/2 hours for a tow truck. I spoke to pep boys on the phone from the very beginning. When we finally got there, we were helped by Scott and he was Amazing and very kind and took care of the problem very fast. We were very thankful for his honesty and hard work he did. We will be returning for any future problems with our vehicles.

Worst experience at a car mechanic ever. Jim was condescending, abrasive and dismissive, did not really bother answering my questions at all. Told me it would be a 2-3 hour wait instead of just an hour. Professionals would have the courtesy to give their customers a call as a heads up.Also tacked on extra fees without explaining what they were, sketchy much? Would definitely recommend paying a little more and going somewhere else for better service and convenience. STAY AWAY!

Went in for oil change and tire rotation. Quick service but came home and had low air in tires, flat tires, I expected them to check air pressure when rotation is done. Also Pep Boys no longer has parts here in AZ.

Me and my husband have been going to pep boys for a very long time. We specifically go there to see Ben only. In the service department. He is the only reason we ever go to pep boys. Not only is he friendly but he is helpful and makes us feel like we are apart of the family there. He gives us the best advice on our vehicles and always checks our cars to make sure their safe before trips out of town. I will not go to any other pep boys or pep boys in general unless Ben is there because he makes us feel special. Oh yeah and I’ll drive a whole hour to this location just to see him

Upfront and honest from my experience. I only asked for two tires to be repaired and when I returned they said they had also changed out my two tail lights and license plate bulbs for free. They were very generous and patient with me. My experience with the pep boys on w. Chandler was the exact opposite. So if you have the option, take your car to the pepboys on S. Arizona Ave. Excellent customer service!

Too bad theres no option for Zero stars.10 year customer never coming backI have brought 5 different cars to this place in the last 10 years for various reasons, from simple oil changes to more complicated stuff. I wont be doing that anymore.Brought my car in 8 months ago complaining of the a/c not blowing cold out of all vents. 8 hrs and $500 later, they said it was fixed; it wasnt. Tried to show them and they wanted to charge me another fee to diagnose and then more to fix the problem they say was fixed in the first place. No thank you.Was told by their service manager before, when it took 2 hours for an oil change, they had to give walk-ins priority. Sounded like I was in some messed up reality, but, fine, whatever.I bring in my car for an oil change and new battery on a walk-in and am told that thered be a 5 hour wait because now they are giving appointments priority. No apology, no explanation beyond that by Jamie, whoever he is in the management chain; but he did still manage to tell me it would be a long wait even for a battery.This shop appears to be run by a bunch of idiots who cant communicate and keep their stuff straight. Ive spent thousands of dollars at this shop but I will be taking my business elsewhere - like to their Tempe shop who ranks a star better than this bin of jokers.Note to Pep Boys: maybe you wouldnt have to send out so many stupid coupons if you trained your people and had management that cared about customer service and not ripping people off.

I had a very positive overall experience at this location. I called them on Friday to schedule an appointment for an oil change on Sunday. The oil change took exactly one hour. Michael, the store manager who I dealt with, was very helpful and friendly. The store itself has a huge selection of different types of products and a large clearance section. I will definitely come back for future oil changes. I highly recommend scheduling an appointment for any type of service to save time and see if they have availability.

Wow! Nothing short of a five-star experience! Ben and Rodney were both so quick and helpful. It is always stressful to get a flat tire. But I was towed to this Pep Boys location, expecting to have to leave my car and get a ride back in the morning. But Ben assured me that they could take care of it right away. Only 45 minutes until closing. Rodney’s service was prompt and thorough. I appreciate you two so much!

They were incredible! I was having trouble with my coolant tank and Ben came out and helped me diagnose the problem and fix it to where I could safely drive it to my mechanic. Everyone inside was happy to help me and find the right coolant even when there were issues with additives and year differences, they kept looking and problem solving until we reached a solution. I really appreciated the exceptional service when I needed it.

I go out of my way to go here because I know they are honest and will help. Prices are pretty reasonable too. Plenty of auto parts store around, but they dont make em like this anymore.

Staff was extremely helpful. I was restoring a 25+ yr old motorcycle and needed a battery. I didnt have a model number or anything to reference. Spoke to Nick on the phone, he took the time to help me out - he even took my dimensions of the battery holder on the motorcycle. He had one in stock and set is aside for me. It worked perfectly. They put the price of tires on display inside the tire. Only problem with that is the price shown is actually for a smaller Cheaper tire next to it so you believe your looking at both the tire you want and the price looks great.TOTALLY DECEPTIVE!!!After you agree to buy them and they are finishing up with the install. The salesman invites you over to the counter to pay up. Its only then that you find out the price is way more than what you had planned on paying. You explain to the salesman the bill cant be correct and show him the price inside the display tire as proof. Thats when he explains that price is for the smaller tire next to the one you just bought and the price of the tire you bought is inside another and larger tire.I didnt buy any tires there but did watch as this played out to a customer. Mostly women who are not familiar with prices and obviously dont want to argue. I complained to an employee but he didnt much care. When I told him the Arizona attorney generals might not like this practice either he said they had already talked to them and were fine with it. This is BullSh#@!

Went in requesting service due to having a power failure in the car. I explained the problem and asked if it could be a loose connection and was told it was likely my alternator falling. I explained I just replaced the alternator and that was unlikely. I asked if they could glance at it to see if it was something obvious and was told that they were short staffed and that they had someone coming to work in about an hour. Turned out to be a loose connection to the alternator. Literally would have taken thirty seconds to help with. I felt like I was bothering the staff by being there. Ill be sure to stick to a different shop in the future.

Hey pepboys, if you ever wonder why you are losing money. Read this.I went to pepboys on 22 feb 2020 because my car was showing a problem with tire indicator. I asked the manager to help me fill the air in the tires.Instead of helping me, he replies you dont know how to fill air in your car tires?I let it go and tipped the helper who finally helped me fill the air. But I couldnt shake off the scorned look he had on his face.Turned out my car tires were old and needed replacement.The guys at Firestone nearby were professional and got working on the issue promptlyIll take my business (330 dollars for two tires) to Firestone again in the futureNote to manager. I dont want anything bad for you.But if Im paying you money, cant you act happy and take the money ? Was I rude to you ?

The guy at the register was not helpful at all! All I asked was how quick can I get a tire? And he replied with an attitude. end of day. I immediately started to walk away because thats not a way to talk to a loyal customer. Once he realized I wasnt gonna stick around he started to say something but I am already done with this location. If youre looking for tires in the area check out one of the local shops across the street. They were way nicer and cheaper than pep boys ever has been.

I made an online appointment on May 21, 2017 at 5:14 pm. The scheduled appointment was for May 27, 2017 at 9:00 am, to replace rear shocks on my wifes vehicle. I arrived early and spoke to Gabe who advised the shocks were ordered but not currently at the shop. He stated the shocks would be here at 10:30 am. I left and returned at approximately 10:20 am. I spoke to Larry who told me he ordered the shocks LAST NIGHT and they should be here in another 40 minutes.I believe my wait time was inexcusable, my time is valuable. For Larry to order the shocks the NIGHT BEFORE is absurd and lacks common sense. Especially when I made the appointment seven days earlier.Then I received an email that said, sorry YOU DIDNT MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT, do you want to reschedule ? HA !I WILL NOT return to this store to do business again.Update:I have not received a response as of Sept. 7, 2017, after emailing the Store Manager and the Corporate Office ... That speaks volumes about this Company and the terrible customer service.

Pepboys was amazing! We had a tire blowout late into the evening, and found them less than half an hour before closing. We were in a bad way and they took wonderful care of us. Ive never written a Google review before, but then again, Ive never received such amazing customer service at an auto store as I did today at Pep Boys! I have had good experiences there in the past, so when I thought Id picked up a nail in my tire, I went back there to get the tire fixed. The bad news is that the nail wasnt the real problem with my tire; the real issue was that the overpriced Goodyear Eagle run-flat tire had developed a side wall crack that was obvious as soon as they removed it. Since the tire was less than 2 years old and only had a few thousand miles on it, I called the company where Id purchased them. As they bounced me around their phone tree, Ben, the awesome guy in the service department who was helping me, patiently explained to the different agents how the side wall was separating from the tread. He and Scott, the manager, got me a replacement tire so I could drive home safely since my car doesnt have a spare. They were kind, professional, and genuinely wanting to help make the situation right for me. They even wrapped the old tire in plastic and put it in my trunk since the warranty people wanted the actual damaged tire back. Now that I know they can install special order tires like the run-flats my car needs, I will definitely be going back to them in the future for both installation and tire maintenance. In terms of treating customers with respect and concern, these guys could give lessons to the local car dealerships and their service departments - five stars and then some!

I took my 99 suburban in to have a/c checked it was blowing warm . when I dropped it off i told the service rep. not to use any stop leak when i picked up my truck i noticed on the bill that they had used stop leak . As it turns out all they did was add stop leak and recharge the system . it worked fine for two days . when i returned to pep boys they said that the compressor was bad and it would cost $1000. to replace . I took the truck to another repair shop who replaced a sensor flushed out the stop leak and recharged the system dont go to this pep boys they will rip you off every time .........Dont bother responding back they dont respond to you and there response to your review is just more bullshit........

While out today with my family I got a nail in my tire. It was bad enough I could hear the air coming out of the tire. So it being 5:30 on a Sunday most places were closed. The only tire place we saw that was open was Pep Boys. We have never had any experience with this company but we needed to get it fixed or replaced fast before it did any damage. It was only a couple minutes from where we were so we rushed over there. We were informed when we got there that they closed in 15 minutes and a patch takes 30, so we needed to go somewere else. I have worked in retail for years and I understand that even after you close there are things that need to be done but I saw 3 employees standing around and maybe 3 cars in there! My car tire was clearly leaking air and could have caused even more damage with me driving around on it like that but they couldnt help us because they were closing soon. I will never give my buisness to a company who cant show a little compassion to people who need help. Thankfully we found Century Tires 2 minutes down the road who changed my tire in less then 10 minutes. We were completely done and leaving at 6:02.

Professional.People are more likely to complain about poor experiences than compliment a business for satisfying expectations. I had two tires changed out today with an oil change. The location called suggesting new windshield wiper blades, to which I consented.No haggling, no hassle, very little upselling (yes, I need two more tires, but I knew that). I appreciated very courteous and quiet service on a busy day. Job was finished within three hours.

They did everything possible to help me look up my battery I purchased although it may have been very time consuming, they did not hesitate to give up. I purchased the battery November 2012 and there apparently was dead cell in my battery.. Since the 2 year warranty was had passed, they were going to give me my prorate credit towards a new battery. Mike and Bob were extremely helpful and Mike even did a huge favor by replacing my battery 100% with no charge. Which was SO awesome considering Ive had so many vehicle maintenance issues that were putting a dent in my bank account. I HIGHLY recommend anyone and everyone to come here. The service team do an excellent job at explaining things that auto zone wouldnt even dare to do. They might be a little more pricey but it is all worth it in the long run. Pep boys is like a 5 star restaurant ....and easily make auto zone and oreilly look like McDonalds!

Absolutely horrible service, I went in for a oil change which I had a appointment for, and waited and waited and waited for about 10-20 minutes, and nobody even greeted me or even helped me. There wasnt even one single employee in the store. So, it was like they were acting like I wasnt even there, which was very unprofessional and rude. So, I took my business elsewhere which was Brake Masters, which they were extremely busy, but they still were extremely friendly and professional and did not turn me away. So from now on, I will take my business to Brake Masters since they know how to give the proper customer service and they always do a phenomenal job on my car! No communication between the service advisors and technicians. I waited 2 days to hear what was wrong with my work van. Supposed to be a quick diagnosis. They never called me, or even found out what the problem was. I now have to take my Van to the dealership, and am out a few more days of work cause of this. While visiting family in Chandler over the weekend the Rear wheel bearing started to become overwhelmingly loud and would have been dangerous to drive home 7hrs with. Although my car on has 44,000 miles it mysteriously went out. We didnt know if somewhere would be open on Super Bowl Sunday and able to get the parts to fix it. But the did, they got it done same day, and an hour and a half earlier than they projected just to get us home. Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely have a new respect for Pepboys.

Took a while to get my tires & alignment done, but that was due to the rusted up under-carriage on the van. They were out of the tire we had ordered online, though, so they upgraded us at no cost. The real issue was the next day we woke up to a flat tire, which they fixed at no cost, but we spent that whole day waiting to hear back from them. They told us itd be done at about 3pm, we hadnt heard anything by 6, and when I called them they informed me the part they needed to fix the sensor in the tire wouldnt be there until the next day, but theyd call me when it was ready, should be late-morning. After not hearing anything all morning, I call close to 2 oclock, and sure enough it is done, but why no one called me to let me know that, I dont know.TL;DR - Started out fine, but slowly rolled downhill. Would not recommend.

Im reading five stars to help offset some of the negative reviews. The place is not bad the staff was nice and helpful and a lot of stuff to choose from. Most complaints stem from it just being located in South Chandler which can be sketchy at times but has nothing to do with Pep Boys. I have been here a few times and will come back.

I went to this location twice about 8 years apart and both times it was an absolute disaster. I would not have gone back to this one the second time but the first store I made it to on Alma School was closed and no one was there even though it was supposed to be open and I had scheduled an appointment. I had to call a tow truck to get me to the next store! The first time I went to this location they ordered the wrong part and delayed me getting my car back another 3 days. The second time they broke my ac while doing a different repair and claimed it was coincidence. Also Larry forgot to tell the mechanic to try reconnecting the battery before doing the repair for the AC. Will never return again, and at this point I am done with all pepboys.

***BEWARE***This is the worst place to take your car/truck. My wife took her car and a worker by the name of GABE wanted to overcharge 55% more for an oil change just because he thought he could get away with it. I took my car to do a brake service and had to detail from inside. It was a mess on the inside. I gave them another opportunity and went to purchase a battery charger. The manager would not give me the price for a battery charger that was advertised online. To finish quick, Pep Boys used to be a great place to take your car/truck for service. ****STAY AWAY FROM PEP BOYS IN ARIZONA AVENUE****

Data in parking lot 20 minutes before opening to get oil change.Nobody waiting. Had to go inside threw mechanics garage because they didnt even unlock door till I said something.Then they say cant get you in till 5:00 pm.Now 7:50 and still nobody waiting .they could have had me in and out already.Poor customer service..Never go back again.

I brought my car in to get the tire patched. I specifically asked if they can do it without scratching my black powder coat rims. The manger said yes, but it might happen on accident. What he was saying was,, Look around, look where you’re at, look who’s doing the work. We could care less if we damage your rims in the process. In fact if you bring something nice here we’ll make sure you regret coming here. So I paid $12 to get my rim scratched, which will now cost $100 to fix. I know those machines are not designed to damage the rims, you can take a tire on/off without the damage. If you care enough to take the time. PepBoys in south Chandler could care less. Don’t take anything nice there.Its 24 hours later, now my Tire Pressure Monitoring System does not work on that tire, of course. $12 to fix my flat tire. now i need to spend $100 on a big scratch on the rim and another $80 to get the monitoring system fixed. AGAIN, look at the reviews for this place. Dont think your gonna save a few bucks going here. It will cost you if you bring your vehicle here

They absolutely honor any warrantee you got from them - even if you cant find your paperwork. Plus, if you dont need the expensive repair you told them you needed, they explain why the less expensive repair is the right option.

Careless workers!!I purchase driver side wiper and low beam head light by asking for the right one,had a no problem with head light but wiper wasnt the right kind and i couldnt make it to fit, went back to get right kind but man said is the right type and told me he will get someone to help install, i went back out to try again but no sucess my self and no one was coming out to help, i went back into store ask if anyone will help but all sudden everybody is too busy so told me to get my refund.there was 3people involve on these simple thing if they could find me a right type of wiper, bottom line is all staff working on that day didnt care at all. i was wondering they must dont care since it wasnt much of business from me.

If I could give this specific establishment zero stars I would. My fiancè came here because he was quoted over the phone a fair price for his bearing being replaced. He already had the part so the charge was for labor only. After everything was said and done they charged him nearly double what they quoted on the phone AND they messed something up. Now when my fiancè turns his wheel to the right the ABS light comes on and it reads something about traction control. Also when he puts the car into drive now sometimes to wont move then suddenly jumps. He had no previous issues other than the bearings. He took the car back and all they said was its the other bearing. You fixed a small problem and created a bigger one. I am 6 months pregnant and I also have cancer and this is our only means of transportation to and from my multiple weekly doctors appointments. This is unacceptable for a supposedly reputable business and this issue needs to be addressed and fixed ASAP! When he took his car back they looked at it and claimed it was the other bearing that needs replacing. They damaged his vehicle and wont take responsibility and fix it!! AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE AT ALL COST! I told my fiancè to bring his car back again and have them fix the issue but hes afraid theyll do further damage... Go here at your own risk!

My experience with the Pep Boys Store located at 400 S Arizona Ave, Chandler, AZ 85225 was a disaster.I purchased a car stereo, the required installation adapters and kits, and requested an installation. I did this on August 25, 2014. The installation finally occurred yesterday, September 2, 2014. Unfortunately, the parts that were ordered by the sales representative were not correct-and I had already waited over a week.After great discussion, 4 visits to the store, arguments with 4 employees over the less than stellar service I was receiving I finally had the stereo installed. The Kenwood System works well. The system is not installed well into the dash, as one side is not flush and the unit is not square but on an angle.The greatest disappointment I have is with the horrid customer service. The store employees tend to be able to sell items within the store, and then lose ability to provide appropriate service that is satisfying to the customer. If a person is able to buy a stereo unit at the store, and the store offers installation services, the customer should expect the best in installation, with service given in a timely and professional manner.This single comment- among many that could be sited- will suffice. I was talking with the installer, who was complaining to me about the problems he was facing in installing the unit. I was told that perhaps I should have gone to a different store rather than bring my business to Pep Boys, one that did these installations more often than Pep Boys, and not expect the services (for which I had paid) from them but are obviously present in a different company. My response: I believed that Pep Boys was a reputable business. If Pep Boys is a reputable business they would have competent sales personnel and competent installers for items presented for sale and installation. I then expressed my distress that the comments given to me were an assertion of my failings as a customer, who should know better. I then asked them, Is the proper protocol at Pep Boys for dealing with customers with understandable dissatisfaction with the way they were treated was to make them feel guilty and stupid for trusting their company?I am still very dissatisfied with this company, and this particular store. I did not receive value for my money. I wasted a great deal of time, and had my trust in this company tarnished beyond repair. I would suggest that no one go to this company for any work. I would suggest that if you do, you will not be given satisfaction.I am too tired to continue being jerked around by these people. I hope that if you are reading this review you will be freed from being dissatisfied by a company that has no shame in providing sub-standard service for premium service prices.David E Cox, PhD

I wouldnt even give them a one star. thats too good for their horrible business. the guys there dont know jack. just a bunch of flunkies who cant go no where in life. putting stuff on my car that didnt even need to be there in the first place. Id highly avoid this and all pep boys at all costs.

These guys are awsome,benjamin was ABSOLUTELY the best and very charsmatic.I was in complete distress after having reconstructive surgery,and freaking out about my car,these guys dropped everything to help me,I just could not believe this service,I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THIS PLACE AND LOCATION,I LOVE THESE GUYS!
