Small but great friendly staff

This is a gem of a bookstore! The owner, Bart Carithers, cultivates a perfect collection of books. Ive been buying my books through him over the phone during the pandemic and then do either curbside or quick masked in-store pickup. I especially love the children book section and so does my 4-year old.

Bart is absolutely fantastic! I needed childrens books on a certain topic (death of a family pet). Not only did he research and provide a list of relevant books the next day, but he hand delivered (socially distant, of course) them to me when they came in.

Has a nice selection of books on hand appealing to a variety of tastes from classics to kids books and contemporary favorites, and if they dont have it, theyll happily order it (usually ready for pick up within days). Also love to visit Frank, the shopkeeping kitty!

Drawn in by the sign, Independent Bookstore, this little delightful shop did not disappoint. While small, the selection is sure to satisfy a variety of tastes being packed with merchandise without sacrificing that cozy vibe. Personally, Im more of a staff person, myself. The gentleman at the counter, presumably the owner, was exactly what one hopes for in a shop attendant; he was pleasurable, helpful, and made me feel extremely confident in my purchases, including Thunder & Lightening: Weather Past, Present, Future by Lauren Redniss. I adore Next Page Books. If they don’t have it, they can order it for you. It’s such an asset to the NewBo district that I get most of my books here when I’m in Cedar Rapids.
