Capitol automotive was the best experience I have ever had at a mechanic shop! The staff was very friendly and welcoming, they even accommodated a last minute adjustment to the maintenance I initially went for. I was so surprised when later that day I received a check up for my vehicle about what they had discovered, what they were working on, and critical issues that needed to be addressed. They also gave me a call to discuss these and all of my options. That is an amazing feature and really goes above and beyond the average mechanic shop. Excellent customer service! Check engine light came on and although they werent able to get me in immediately, they got me in as soon as they could. Its been hard finding someone local to take care of my Audi, but they came through! They are my go to for my car from now on! To keep a long story short I live in the Tahoe area and I’m a heavy equipment mechanic and normally don’t take any of my vehicles to anyone for repairs but my wife being pregnant and me working crazy hours at the time of an emergency repair, I decided to to put my trust into Capitol automotive after researching shops locally and down the hill and had them replace a cylinder head on my wife’s vehicle. These guys are old school. They stand behind their work. I brought my Porsche in for an alignment because it was pulling slightly to the right. After a couple of months I brought it back because the pull was still there. No questions asked, they spent three hours working on the alignment. I asked how much I owed, the answer was zero. They are very competent and incredibly honest.

So refreshing to work with professionals. I live out in Silver Springs, and we dont have any good mechanics out this way, so its a hassle to drop off a truck at Capital in the capital, but its 100% worth it. Great work, great guys, and truly reliable. My eldest & I both go here. Thank you!

The most important thing I look for in an auto mechanic is if they are trustworthy. Markus knows his stuff and looks for the best way to address the problem, not going automatically to the most complicated solution like some shops.

I loved their reports sent via text and email. They very neatly showed what was in good condition (green), recommended (yellow), and needed attention (red). Each section had pictures with reasonably understandable descriptions. This made the decision process very easy and increased my confidence in their ability to do a great job, which they did!

Had a great experience bringing in my car for oil change service and general inspection. The team was prompt and thorough with their analysis. Really liked that they emailed a report with pictures on what was done and things they checked/recommended. Will definitely be returning for future car service needs.

Had taken my 99 XJ in for A/C repair. With 165k on the OD I figured the worse like the compressor ($$$) had died. But with 100 degree temps on the horizon I was willing to put the money into getting it blowing cold again. I dropped the vehicle off the night before the appointment. The next afternoon they called to inform me that it was ready to be picked up and that it was simply an empty system. That was the best case ($) scenario. Im so happy that my XJs A/C system is back to blowing ice cold once again. Thank you Capitol Automotive!

Totally understand the 69 charge for diag time and why you charge it. When the customer comes in and tells you what is wrong and what needs to be done. I think maybe you should wave the diag fee?

The team at Capitol Automotive were able to quickly and accurately identify the source of of an exhaust leak on my F150 that I couldnt find. They forwarded photos and kept me informed of their repair progress. This wasnt an easy repair as there isnt much room to work on that manifold. They also posted a very cool synopsis of the general condition under the hood. Im glad that I chose Capitol Automotive!

They did what I asked, which was check my a/c system. It checked out so I picked the car up good to go. However, seems like theyre hard selling a little more than I like. They apparently did a thorough vehicle inspection which I had no desire for and did not request. Sent me a picture via email of all of my cars fluids next to reference samples. Among other things they have a sample of my BLUE Subaru coolant next to generic green coolant which is so meaningless its laughable. Also have a note that they couldnt check my transmission fluid because it couldnt be accessed by design which isnt true. Theres a dip stick for both ATF AND front differential fluid so I dont know why they missed that. (not that I wanted them poking around in the first place). Some newer Subarus have sealed CVT transmissions but mine doesnt. I also personally feel the $110 minimum diagnostic fee is just a little high, maybe $10 or $20 high. And when they called to tell me there was no a/c issue I said great Ill pick up the car, but then they started laying in about how they wanted to check codes and pressure test the coolant system, right up to the minute I walked out with the keys, they were talking about checking codes. Of course they want to find something to fix so they can make some money (I dont even blame them, I also like making money) but in my eyes that puts them right on the edge of too-high pressure sales. (oh, and even telling me a cooling problem could leave me stranded on the side of the road.) They were friendly enough, did what I asked, charged exactly what they told me up front, so Im just nit-picking. Ive even already recommended them to others but Im very glad I dont visit mechanics very often and Im especially glad they didnt top up my coolant with the wrong stuff.

Had a coolant leak. It was diagnosed as a cracked radiator side tank, replaced radiator.

Made an appointment got an estimate showed up with the car late Friday afternoon to have it repaired was denied service because........ the car could require additional repairs. I explained the only fault was cooling system and am stuck far away from my home in Carmel California asked them to fix the cooling system the response was no. Lost a triple a tow due to this place, the employees at the hotel warned me this was a shady joint I didn’t listen wish I would have.Asked the mechanic to just fix the coolant system and told him I expected no other repairs he responded talking about how they were a reputable shop(asked three people all said they were not but it was just a coolant system so whatever) and they would have to fix the whole car they don’t just do “bandaid” repairs.I had already disconnected the inlet hose to the engine from the coolant system as I tried to flush out a possible air bible myself as well as the electric system to the fan. He described this as “hoses everywhere” it was honestly strange but I wish I had listened to the warnings I got about this shop. Not sure if the guy understands the service industry but the whole goal of it is to provide the desired result for the person engaged in acquiring their desired result. Further more the reputation of the shop is entirely disconnected with if the oil cooling system is fixed at the same time. Big ego from a sleeZy guy

I am a race coach for a ski resort in the Truckee area and needed to get my car fixed asap as I commute to work. Mind you the parts where available but nevertheless my vehicle was fixed in 24 hours. A sense of urgency shows me they care about my well being and my need to stay working.

Weve been coming to Capitol for just a couple of weeks now and I can say I wouldnt trust anyone else with my vehicle. They are honest, careful, and priced extremely fair! Kyle has been one to help every time we have come in and hes able to explain things in a way in which I understand.

John is terrific and very knowledgeable. The service was done in the specified time frame and there was no pressure for extras. A service report was furnished stating what was checked, what was done, what needed attention soon and items that might need service in the future. At no time did anyone try to sell me on performing any of the need soon or in the future services. They do a great job and stand behind the work they do.

They upsale repairs not needed immediately. Also if they refuse to to do any repairs such as alignments they will still charge you. Learned a valuable lesson today dealing with Marcus and this shop. DO NOT GO.

Because I am a shop owner I took advantage of the opportunity to visit Capitol Automotive while visiting Carson City. It was great that the owner Marcus is actively involved in the daily operation. The technicians demonstrated a high level of competence and have a lot of experience.The facility is packed with professional tools and equipment that looked brand new because of how well they are maintained. The coolant light was coming on and off intermittently. The diagnosis was a new water pump. After the new water pump was installed the light was still intermittent and I was asked to reaturn to have the lines bled in case of an air bubble but there was no air bubble. However, the guys took the time to look at everything and were obviously concerned with the issue. They are staying late to have me come back after work and driving it in the heat to see if it overheats. Even when things arent perfect they go above and beyond to get it fixed. They remove the worry even when it isnt perfect, you know it will be when they finish.

No joke, great fast service and affordable

Normally do my own work on my Land Cruiser but there are certain things that require either tools, or time that I dont have. I contacted Marc and his crew to replace the starter on my 100 Series Land Cruiser due to it being a bit of a bear to get to. His staff was knowledgeable, punctual and happy to oblige when I had specific requests (wanted only OEM parts).The day the work was supposed to be done I received a call from his main technician John regarding the job being a bit more time-consumptive and complex than originally anticipated. They verified with me that it was ok for them to begin work with this increase in time/price due to the complexity BEFORE turning a wrench. After chatting with John a bit about the situation, I gave him some recommendations on enthusiast forums that had some time saving tricks/tips that he utilized to help with the process. They were happy to listen to my cruiser talk (being a Land Cruiser enthusiast) and utilized what I was recommending. Afterwards, when the job was completed, not only did I receive a call confirming completion of the task but also a text with a link to the overall well-being of the vehicle as well as an email. They do their own small, multi-point inspection with recommendations on things that they noticed may need attention.After I went to pick-up the vehicle and pay for the service, the cost came out a bit lower than originally anticipated (after the initial call) and they gave me a quick debrief on what happened, was found, and asked if I had any questions or concerns. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have work done on their vehicles as the professionalism, cleanliness of shop, and organization all it top notch.

Its not easy to find a good mechanical repair facility that you can trust. But, I just found one at Capitol Automotive. All work was thoroughly explained before being completed by a competent mechanic with years of experience. I am very satisfied that the work was done correctly and the price for doing it was fair. I lost faith in another local facility that I had used for several years when that Service Manager lied to me about a repair. My three vehicles will now be getting serviced at Capitol Automotive for what Im sure will be a long time.

Very happy to recommend Capitol Automotive. I went for an alignment. When other (chain) shops would only align my car until it was “in the green”, Capitol went the extra distance to dial-in the alignment until it was right ... the work attitude of craftsmen.

Check their Yelp reviews also hot and a few cold. If you ask whats wrong expect to pay for the diagnosis. If you know what you want done, ask for that. They are a locally owned and run shop. The offer full service automotive repair and maintenance.

As a shop owner I know a great shop when I see one. I visited CA in March of 2019. These guys and gals are good at what they do!

They should put flaps on their work trucks so they arent kicking up rocks breaking peoples windshields on the freeway

Fast and friendly. I was referred to Capitol by my tire dealer because I needed an alignment. I didnt know if it needed front and rear or just one of those. I was impressed with their honesty with the news that only the front end was out of alignment. They also did a free inspection of fluids, brakes, etc., and again, said I only needed new windshield wipers. Plus they gave me a good recommendation for a good breakfast place nearby while they did the work.

The alternator on my wifes car was going out. They quoted me what was a fair price considering the difficulty in getting to the alternator. While they did the preliminary checks, they discovered what might have been an additional problem, and they also managed to save some money by removing the alternator a different way. So, they asked if I wanted them to look into the additional problem. Having saved me money, I immediately took them up on it. Turned out to be nothing, and I was very satisfied with not only their great customer service, but also their attention to detail and willingness to help save me a little money, too!EDIT: four months later, the alternator started going out again. They tested it, confirmed it, and replaced it all in the same day, even with a busy workload, at no cost to me. These people know what it means to care for their customers.

I have an older XTerra that needed a little TLC. Marcus and his crew did a remarkable job to make sure that my vehicle was all fixed up and dependable. They discussed all the issues that were going wrong and I was able to make an educated decision about what to fix and what to wait on. Capitol Automotive made me feel comfortable and at ease-not usually how I feel as a woman going to an auto repair shop.

Good mechanics but too overpriced. They charged me over $800.00 for new brake pads and rotors. The female working in the front has a rude attitude as well.

Quick, friendly service. I went in for an oil change and they did a full safety inspection on my car and found a few things that needed to be fixed that my old shop missed. They even took pictures of everything so I could see it too.
