This is a great company to work with. They replaced all of our storm windows this year. We have a lot of windows in many sizes and needed repairs to the trim. They did a fantastic job. They didnt have room for us in their schedule in 2020 so we reserved for this spring. They stuck to their estimate, showed up exactly when they said they would (even after six months), and did wonderful work at a very fair price. We looked at many vendors to do this job and I am so glad we picked SP. Highly recommend them!
Not only was Sy and the entire team at SP Custom Carpentry and Windows knowledgeable, professional, and kind, they provided custom storm window and custom front screen door solutions for my 1910 home in south Minneapolis. I am grateful for their partnership and incredible workmanship that has added such beauty and energy efficiency to my lovely old home. I give them the highest possible rating! Thank you again and again, SP!
We were considering replacing the original windows on our 1904 home because many of the opening mechanisms didnt work and switching between storms and screens required dangerous ladder work. Fortunately we discovered Sy and the team at SP Carpentry. They rebuilt 25 antique windows for smooth opening, tighter seams, and new locks where needed. Best of all, they installed their replacement storm windows that have integrated screens hidden to keep the original look on the exterior of the house. No more ladder adventures! We saved many thousands of dollars versus new windows and avoided scrapping the finely crafted originals. SP showed a sensitivity to our historic home that we didnt see in other window contractors - even using antique rippled glass to replace a cracked pane. The crew was very polite, project management and cleanup was excellent.
We could not be more pleased with the work of SP Windows. The windows in our 1950s house needed an upgrade. They were drafty and we liked the idea of getting windows that could be unlatched so we could easily clean the outside glass. We looked into Marvin, Pella and Anderson windows. Generally, we liked those windows but we were disappointed that the look of the grid on the upper window would be different. Our current windows have 8 panes on the upper and one big pane on the lower part. Since new windows are double pane, the grid is fake and is just placed on top of a big glass pane. It didnt look right and the total cost to replace 17 windows was pretty expensive. Luckily, a neighborhood friend had used Sy to replace their windows and they loved how it turned out.Basically, SP windows take out your old windows, brings them to his shop, cuts down the sides of the window so it can unlatch for easy cleaning. and adds robust weatherstripping on top, sides and bottom for a tight seal. Mike, from SP windows, visited the house, inspected the work to be done and quickly gave us a bid. The cost was significantly less than Marvin, Pella and Anderson. We took the bid.Part of the family was taking a trip in mid June, so we requested the SP team do the project during that week. Sid (Sys brother) arrived with the team at 8:30 that Monday of the vacation week. I was shocked that all the windows were out by end of day Monday. The team put down drop clothes and kept the house and outside areas super clean. Tuesday they did most of the finishing in the shop and Wednesday they put back all the windows but one big picture windows (which was done on Thursday morning). They also installed new fancy aluminum storm windows to replace our old storms that were hard to open. They also replaced a rotted window sill on the 2nd floor, plus cleaned and painted all the sills. Lastly, much of the glazing on our 1950s windows was dry and brittle. Sys team put in new glazing on the outside of all our windows before re-installing. They vacuumed up as they moved out of the house and left it very clean. I should mention the team is very friendly and respectful. So, how do we like your new windows? We love them. The first thing I noticed is the house is noticeably quieter! Funny what really good weather stripping and glazing will do the reduce the noise from our busy street. Bottom line, if you want to keep your old windows but significantly upgrade the function, you should contact SP windows. Plus, we were billed the cost that SP Windows had bid, no surprises. Highly recommended.
We recently had our exterior storm windows replaced by SP Windows and couldnt be happier. Sy, the owner, was fantastic to work with; he was an excellent communicator, so personable, and always showed up exactly on schedule. The installation crew was really friendly and very hardworking, they finished installing all our exterior storm windows in less than a day. We didnt want to do an entire interior/exterior window replacement due to wanting to preserve the integrity of the windows that are original to our older home and didnt want to unnecessarily throw good windows in the landfill and are so thankful we found the perfect solution with SP Windows. We are incredibly happy with our new storm windows and *highly* recommend this company. Thanks so much !!
Just had your sales person here at my house. He seemed not to know a single thing. I asked him about various options and all I got was we just sell doors I got your name from Next Door, it was not only a waste of my time but I did not appreciate his I really dont care attitude.I was prepared to get the ball rolling today, so your company lost on not only my business but the referral that I share with my hundreds of my clients. Guessyou dont want business but I will share this experience with everyone I know and come in contact with !!Louise OReilly4845 ..Mpls
Sy Custom Windows make an excellent product! I have an Historic home in Connecticuit and Sy made a personal visit in 2012 to measure all my 70 plus windows for custom wood storms after sending a sample window for my approval. They were made to fit and now 8 years later they have proved durable are still in perfect shape, completing the our home. They are energy efficient providing us with cozy warmth in winter and efficient AC in summer, and act as noise cancellation for the traffic on the road near us which was an unexpected bonus. The storms are triple track, making the screens stationery and no need to exchange glass for screen in the summer. I searched for a long time to find what I wanted, and these storms are perfect in every way.
We had SP replace/retro fit all of the storms/screens/windows in our 1912 St. Paul home about 4 years ago. I was completely impressed by their high level of service, workmanship and materials. From the beginning of the process to the end, they were efficient, professional and thorough. Our windows look great, are super sturdy and function beautifully -- and I can clean everything from the inside! We have many stained and cut glass windows, and all original wood framed windows, and their retro-box system was an ideal solution to upgrading our windows without sacrificing the historic beauty of the original windows. I recently called SP for a repair to something I had broken and was reminded all over again how great they are!!
We love working with Sy and his team - the do top quality work, on time, and for a reasonable price. Their work is exceptional, Sy is wonderful - listens and offers recommendations that save money and improve the finished product. We will be working with them again!
I was very impressed with the speed with which they responded to my inquiry, the care taken in making the recommendation, and the ability to get my small project done on a tight timeframe before closing on the sale of my house. Thank you SP for the great service!
Replaced and/or restored all the windows/storms/screen on our 1860 home. They also built us a custom made back door and storm door. Every contractor I had through our home during this renovation was BLOWN away by the quality of the work. I cannot recommend them enough.
We had SP windows build some new custom windows for our house, some full sash replacements, and some re-worked sashes and all storm window replacements. The work turned out very good. The custom windows look just like the originals, and the original windows have had new life breathed into them with the new tracks, tilting ability and added insulation. The storms look great and have worked well for several years now. The crew was in and out very quickly an cleaned up after themselves. We wil continue to use SP as we finish off the last few windows left in our house they have not upgraded or replaced.
We had SP Custom Carpentry bid out several projects for our house built in 1903 (replacing 3 windows, building a custom-size replacement for the back door, new storm door, repairing another exterior door). We were thinking that we’d only be able to afford the more urgent of these projects. However, the bid came back so affordable (all of this for the same price that one company bid us just to replace back door) that we moved forward with all of the projects. The owner, Sy was very responsive and great at keeping us updated on the timing of the project. They just did the installation this week, and we couldn’t be more pleased with how everything turned out. The new door and storm look and work great, the windows all match the look of the house perfectly, and the repair to the other door looks great as well. We’ll definitely use SP again in the future and couldn’t recommend them more highly.
We had been looking for replacement storms for our porch and living room windows for years. We couldnt find storms for the living room that could remove the entire window for the summer. When Sy came to give us an estimate, and I told him what I wanted, he said Sure, I can do that and he did! We are so pleased with the work SP Custom Carpentry and Windows did. It is beautiful, and the living room and porch are so much more comfortable.
My experience working with Mike at SP Windows was exceptional. He did not pressure me and was very knowledgeable. Eric on his implementation team was extremely attentive to details and cared deeply abut the quality of his work. I strongly recommend this team.
This company is awesome. The windows are superior and the workmanship is outstanding. I have worked with Sy. He was very informative and knowledgeable. I recommend them to everyone!
We had a small size door to be replaced for an attic entrance to our garage. Regular size doors would not work and contacted door companies were unable to do the job. It was no problem for SP Custom Carpentry & Windows, Inc. Sy, from the Company, came out, took measurements, and gave us a date the door would be ready. The door was installed on the date stipulated. I was impressed by the quality of the work. It really is a great looking door!
SP did a great job rebuilding 3 connected round top windows and matching the character of our 90 yr old home. We were very pleased with the outcome.
My house was built in 1900 and I wanted the benefits of having new windows while preserving the natural woodwork. The new windows match and work perfectly, and Sy and his crew were an absolute delight to work with. Highly recommended!!
Professional, courteous, efficient and knowledgeable. You did a great job replacing the storm combinations on my historic home, thank you!
Horrible. Dont waste your time or money on this company. I set up a next-day appointment with someone at their office, gave her my full address, and told her exactly what we needed doing (restoration of original 1800s sash windows). I took a half-day off work to be at the house and I get a call from Sy 10 minutes before he is supposed to show up, asking me what I want done, firstly, and that depending on what is is, he may not come out because its going to take him 45 minutes to get out to my house. But he already had pricing for all my work, despite not even having walked the property. He gave me some inflated figure per window and barely apologized for being a complete time waster. Totally unprofessional.
Very happy with their service on our 1884 windows. Just had a few repaired this time, but will have them return to repair/replace the others!
This is not exactly a conventional review but it is the truth: SP Windows makes some of the best storm windows on the planet. SPs wood surround combination window looks like an old fashioned wood storm window, but functions like a combination storm window. You get the look of an old-fashioned storm with the convenience of not swapping out storm windows and screens. SP also makes a flush mount aluminum storm window that looks almost identical to a wood storm window. From the sidewalk you can hardly tell its aluminum. On SPs aluminum storm there is no exposed screws giving a clean, architecturally correct look. The last product you should know about is SPs Double-Hung Window Reconditioning System. It converts an old-fashioned double hung into a modern tilt-in window. SP does it with no vinyl in a system designed to last 100 years. SP has a world class reputation for customer service. How do I know? Well I was a customer before I approached Sy the Window Guy about helping him market his products. Available in Minneapolis, St. Paul and the greater Twin Cities Metro. Windows can also be shipped to the lower 48 states.
Cy and team did a great job for us.
