Today I went to 4A coffee and learned they were cash only. Before I left, I placed my order and they pointed to the nearest ATM. When I went to withdraw money, the ATM was broken. I returned without cash and asked them where the other nearest ATM was and they gave me the coffees for free.It was extremely kind and generous. If you are in the area, definitely check out 4A Coffee. They have the best coffee in the neighborhood and extremely kind staff!

The coffee flavor was good however the chai was not. Also, they did not have honey, and I was not told this until after I ordered and paid for my coffee with “honey”, they did not have 2% milk, they did not have drip coffee, they did not have a medium size so I automatically was given a small, and they made me pay for a second drink when I told them I didn’t like the first one, and it was outrageously expensive! We will not be going back.

The Best coffee shop for your morning coffee. Its not busy at all at 8am. The service is excellent and the pastries are out of this world. I had the spinach and feta pastry, its doughy and delicious. I got an oat milk mocha and the flavour is very rich compared to other places, much thicker in texture.Theres no tables to sit at but theres a bench in every window. Credit card machine doesnt ask for tip so dont forget to bring cash for that.

This is my go to place for coffee - both beans to take home which are roasted on site very well and a cup to go.I spend some weekend mornings sitting in the window and enjoying the people. I even used to drive way out of my way to come here before workNow I go anytime because of freelancing and its still wonderful. One of the top reasons I moved back to this neighborhood even.If you have a chance, take a shot at 4A, its a beautiful place with beautifully done coffee and warm friendly owners.Oh and I highly recommend you learn to brew at home with this wonderful coffee. Either getting your beans directly from the roaster or an espresso from the man himself, it is the unlikely experience or quality you will find in this corner of the country. You won’t find a fresher roasted beans than here and the espresso drink you get will be just perfect. The 6 minute walk from Coolidge Corner in the freezing cold is always worth it.

One of the two best places in Boston to get freshly roasted coffee beans and the absolute best place to get coffee, espresso, cappuccino, etc. The chain coffee shops can not come even close. Additionally, they use a manual espresso machine that requires one to have actual skill. Almost everywhere else uses automatics or super-automatics requiring only the push of a button and sacrificing quality for consistency. This is the place for a coffee aficionado.

Absolute winner if you are a coffee snob. My wife and I have just relocated from Sydney Australia to the States for work purposes, and 4A offered us a drink we were impressed with. We arent experts by any stretch but most of the coffee offered in America, particularly Starbucks coffee, is not something we would ever pay for back home. We had a Cortado each, and were thoroughly in coffee heaven! It is as close to the standard of Piccolo we are used to! The husband and wife team are wonderful and very knowledgeable. We are planning to head back at least once before leaving Boston. Cannot recommend this place enough!

This is my favorite coffee place in Boston. I keep trying to make the same coffee at home but in vain. Though the owner has actually tried to help, I use their coffee, and he told me what temperature the water should be and so on. But my espresso machine is just a simple on and off so no control. This review is not about the coffee, it is about the attitude of the person who makes the coffee.I came in Friday early morning to get my Cortado; they gave me my drink with a lot of milk.I kindly told them that Cortado should be with much less milk. This person, whose picture you will find in one of the reviews, started to make insulting comments towards me being coming from another country; he mentioned Israel and told me I could go back if I didnt t like his coffee. He refused to listen to my polite explanation and threw the Coffee in the garbage and asked the cashier to give me my money back.My daughter did not let me call security to report him but this attitude is not acceptable in this era. I encourage everyone not to visit this place. There are plenty of other professional coffee shops to go to.

As a Boston University student who has lived in the area for 3+ years it is a shame to have to write this review and truly shocking in this era. I walked into 4A Coffee with my mom this morning and we ordered our drinks, i got a cold brew and she got a Cortado. When my mom was handed her drink she was handed something more like a latte rather than a Cortado. My mom kindly said this has too much milk in it, not meaning anything of it but that she didnt get what she ordered. I am not sure why but the barista (shown in other reviewers photos) took this personal and got agitated and began to make sarcastic comments about my mother. My mom proceeded to ask a question about the coffee to which he( the barista) rudely responds i dont understand the way you speak (my mom doesnt have an American accent) so she repeated herself and this is when the baristas loud tirade begun. He began to rant and yell at my mother that if she doesnt understand how things are done in this country that she should go back to Israel or wherever your from (we are not Israeli) then he grabbed the coffee out of my mom and Is hands and threw it out as he continued to yell and came out from behind the counter and aggressively grunted and paced around the store mocking my mom and Is voice mimicking what we said. This behavior is unacceptable, i have never seen anyone speak this way. I honestly could not believe the behavior i was seeing come from a professional coffee shopi also would like to point out 1 thing, a Cortado is meant to be 4 oz and he handed my mom a 12 oz cup so this has nothing to do with where my mom is from. In no world is a Cortado more than 4oz (also to get this worked up over coffee was completely unnecessary) this shows this mans true colors and internal bias.I urge anyone thinking of coming here not to support this discriminatory and hateful ideology. I am shocked this has come from a small business in the normally lovely neighborhood of Brookline.

I believe in free expression, but the very few negative reviews of 4A coffee are silly at best, selfish at worst. The coffee here is far superior to that which you get at PEETs (and I like Peets on occasion), thus it is a bit more expensive. This is coffee for people who appreciate, or want to learn to appreciate, what a truly fine cup of coffee is. Secondly, yes, they dont stay open in the evenings-- this is a place to get your coffee by 3 p.m.-- its run by a family of serious coffee brewers-- happily they have a life too. You want good coffee, you go when they are open (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.), not just when you feel like it. Support your local coffee maker-- and buy their coffee to take home-- not inexpensive but if you brew it thoughtfully, you wont return to the usual stuff.(Cathys husband, Charlie)

Im lucky to live within walking distance of this coffee roaster and shop on Harvard Street in Brookline. Owners Alan and Erke opened this up across from Kupels bagel shop a few years ago. They roast coffee beans in early mornings and serve drinks and light snacks.Since I make my espresso at home, having a source freshly roasted beans is important, and 4A Coffee has reliable blends suitable for whatever method you use to make coffee. My favorite is the Silk Route blend. Beans from many different geographical regions are featured, each with their own taste profiles. 4A Coffee dates their roasted beans explicitly with the day of roast, so you can be sure youre buying it on day of roast or shortly thereafter. For the barista or coffee preparation maven, its worth noting the owner has a custom built machine from Slayer Espresso in Seattle, which is impeccably clean.Because of Brookline regulations, the owner isnt able to have table seating in the cafe, so people use the window benches and enjoy the sun in the afternoon. This is a place to have a drink, a snack, and some conversation as a break in your day; not a place to park yourself with laptop for hours.Make a foray to 4A.
