I went out to my car last week and my battery was dead. I had never used Black Bear Auto before, but I called them. They were at my home in 7 minutes, charged my battery so I could drive to the shop. They installed a new battery and I was out within the hour. I went back on Tuesday for an oil change. The staff and owner are probably the most professional and courteous people that I have ever met. AND they have free coffee and soda!!! They are my new auto shop, I wouldnt even think of going anywhere else.

Black Bear Auto is a family run business that is professional and all who work there is friendly. They were there for me when dropping off my car, for the first time with with engine problems. They explained what my issues were and what needed to be done to fix my car. They care and are truthful and only do what needs to be done. I won’t go back to the dealer to have my car serviced ever again since I have the option to go to a place where they accommodate any time that’s convenient for me, as well as, are caring that they do a great job, in a timely manner.

Ripoff. Barry says every car that comes in is worth $1000 in charges. Yeah they give you nice papers and pictures, try to make you feel good while stealing money from you for repairs you dont need. Whatever you do go somewhere else for a second quote. Dont let these asshokes take your hard earned money.

Brought Rogue in last year for AC repair. They did a good job getting parts and getting it done quickly. AC worked fine. This year it stopped working again. Brought it back to them and they found a leak. Fixed it in a couple of hours, no charge. They stand behind their work. Thanks.

Charged for work they didnt do. 3k+ for simple fix. Changed my new filters out and replaced them with dirty ones. Almost broke my ac because of what they put in my cabin air filter. Didnt even do what I sent my car there for.

Went in for an oil change and once over before a road trip. First time using Black Bear Auto, if I wasn’t moving to another state, they would 100% be my regular mechanic. First, they did not charge me any labor cost for my oil change/check up. The list they gave me from the check up was extremely comprehensive and will give me confidence while on the road trip. Brought my Chevy Silverado in to have the spark plugs replaced, mileage over 100,000 miles. Was a slight problem but they fixed it promptly and couldnt be more apologetic and so friendly I felt as if we had been friends for years. They truly are professionals and will be more than happy to go back again for other repairs.

Let me start by saying the people at black bear auto in Bristol CT were very nice. Nothing wrong with how they treated me while I was there to get my headlight fixed. BUT, not a single employee, mechanic or front desk person, was wearing a mask. They got into my car to drive it into the shop to fix my light and did not wear a mask while they were inside my car.I was shocked and quite disappointed. I cannot believe that after more than a year of this pandemic that a professional place of business wouldn’t be wearing masks. It is the one thing we have learned really helps to protect ourselves and others. It’s common human respect and decency. I thought the shop was honestly a nice little place when I got there. But they lost my business forever by not being considerate enough of a business to wear masks.If you are someone who tries your best to stay healthy and safe, do not go here. Do not recommend this place to your family. Don’t go here if you believe in science and think wearing a mask is the right thing to do. Plain and simple.

I recently moved to this area and my vehicle had a ck engine light come on along with an epc light . the vehicle also bucked and had a noise coming from the engine compartment. i took a chance and brought my car to black bear auto and i have to say im glad i did. they diagnosed the vehicle quickly and called my extended warranty to see what they would cover for me. the vehicle had problems and the technician repaired the car in a quick amount of time with care and knowledge which i have to say is not easy on my vehicle. the owner, Barry, was extremely nice along with Karen who was kind enough to take me home and pick me up as i could not get a car rental..none available..the price was fair and the car drives great now..i will always bring any car that i may own to them..they are stuck with me for life !! thanks again to all of you at black bear auto..

I had a nail in my tire and came in to have air put in! young man quickly put air in tires and said the right back tire required about 15 pounds! The next day say a nail in the same time. Went to Black Bear who took my car right in and quickly removed the nail. Auto mechanic also explained that I did not need to reset! Very pleased!! Sheila

Disappointed because it seemed like a cute place but when we got there but no employees were wearing masks. It just makes me sad that people are so selfish that they don’t even have the common decency to wear a simple cloth on their face to possibly help protect others. I’ve been bring my car to Black Bears for 3 years now and the service is incredible. Every year or as needed, they go over my car and with a written statement, stuff that should be repaired soon, or in the future along with a price. I have always felt very confident that my car is in good hands. The staff is also incredible and very friendly. There is always food their to nibble on or they will give you a ride home if repairs will take time. You simply can’t ask for better service and their prices are extremely reasonable. I have no complaints.

I love this place. Very professional. I drop off my car and I receive a ride to work and pick back up. I work locally. They are not expressive. I love how they explain everything they are going to do. I love the entire team there. The only downside I dont really like they are only open Monday to Friday. They are close on the weekend. So I pray I dont have any car issue.

This place took advantage of my 94 year old grandmother, she faithfully went here all the time because she trusted them. Well every month they have her come in for something that doesn’t even need to be fixed and charges her well over $500 Every single time... what really got me upset is that they charged her $1,450 to fix her air conditioning in the car for them to tell her they couldn’t fully fix it and that it only works on the defroster.. once I found out I took out all the bills from this place she faithfully went to, and to see how much they charged this kind hearted woman... to see this business take pure advantage of a elderly woman like that is sick.. she’s in a convalescent home now and she gave me her car, come to find out her “check engine” light was on and covered with electrical tape (black) that matched the trimming in the car that showed the icons for the car ... if I can’t do nothing about it now I will just keep making these reviews to expose how Grimey this auto shop is.. and this will go viral.. this place needs to be held accountable for their actions!

This place is great! They fit you in and work quickly, plus have a shuttle if you need a ride. They email my statements, so I have electronic copies. They are polite to work with and always professional. Barry, the owner isn’t going to cut you a deal, if price is an issue you might find a cheaper place, but they do quality work and stand by it so you won’t be going back over and over again. I’m more interested in an honest place that does quality work for a fair price and that’s what you get at Black Bear. They always look my car over and let me know what MIGHT need to be done soon, so I am not surprised and broken down on the highway. I appreciate them educating me BEFORE I have a problem, but they don’t pressure me to do the work immediately or even with them. Definitely a mechanic with integrity and recommended, even if you pay slightly more.

Normally, theres something that irritates me about local businesses, but I have always been pleased with the quality service and honesty I got at Black Bear Auto. I had a used Ford Explorer SporTrac that always needed a lot of servicing at some other local places, but when a friend suggested Black Bear, Barry took the time to explain what was a priority and what could wait a few weeks. That gave me time to save money until I could get everything done, and Im not stuck eating Kraft mac and cheese for six weeks because Im broke.

I am pleased with the workmanship and professionalism. They explained the work that they would be doing and gave me a clear price estimate to completion.

My sister that is disabled & trusted this place had taken My Elderly Grandfathers truck to get fixed SEVERAL times to Black Bear Auto, they told her that there was no way to get the parts needed & she would have to junk it. There was no way to fix it!!My sister & Grandfather were heart broken! My Mother had purchased this truck for my Grandfather before she passed away. Low & behold, my sister was driving down the road & what does she see....My Grandfathers truck!!The person driving it stated that he got it from a friend a few mnths ago. No matter how much it would have cost, my Sister & Grandfather would have paid to have the truck fixed & spent THOUSANDS of Dollars to Black Bear Auto to maintain & fix my Grandfathers truck!! They Never took it any where else! They were loyal to Black Bear Auto & trusted them!! For what...TO BE LIED TO!! I needed repairs done to my 07 Morano and happened to be driving by so I stopped in and scheduled the appointment for the following week. They provide a night drop off slot for the keys. Just fill out the info in the provided envelope with the reason why your dropping off the vehicle with your contact info and then slide your key in the envelope then into the slot. They were able to identify the issue quickly and called me with a solution. Once i authorized the repair the work was done and I was back on the road. Speaking with Melissa on the scheduling of the vehicle and then Barry about the actual problem my mind was put to ease about bringing my vehicle in. Great people to deal with and reasonably priced. Wouldnt hesitate to return for all future repair on any vehicle I own.

I was in a jam and brought my car to black bear auto and they took care of me right from the start. I know they were very busy and the gentleman at the front desk took me in right away and they even offer a shuttle service and brought me to my work a couple miles away. The owner called me about two hours later and my alternator needed to be replaced. I was surprised when I picked up my car and my bill was for exactly what he quoted me. I really appreciate your service and for taking me in right away. I also saw you offer free coffee and soda which most shops charge for. Great job guys. After having some electrical problems with my car.......Got stuck in a bad situation, needed to get to my husband because his grandmother had just died but when I went out to start my car it almost didnt. I called these guys because I needed someone to help immediately and they went out of their way to make time for me despite not knowing what was wrong with my car or how long it would take them to fix it. By the time I got down to their parking lot my battery had completely died and my car was done. I wasnt going anywhere without their help. Barry, the owner, was so accommodating and so caring. They never charge me a diagnostic fee to figure out what was wrong with my car. Very simply ran outside immediately diagnosed my car and then got one of his mechanics right on it. I was in and out of there within a half an hour. He did not overcharge me in fact in my opinion he under charged me. The mechanics in that situation would have taken full advantage and charged as much as they possibly could have and taking advantage of every possible way. These people did not, they are good people, good mechanics and everyone there has a great big heart. I was able to get to my husbands side and console him with very little headache or worry once I pulled into their parking lot. Definitely got more than my moneys worth. Barry and his crew are all great. I wouldnt take my car anywhere else. He keeps track of my tires, my brakes, any leaks, etc. and he monitors everything closely so you know what youll be spending on your next visit. Black Bear Auto is also the only garage Ive ever gone to where I end up paying less than I expected on my visits. I usually dread taking my car in for fear of finding out I need to spend money on expensive repairs, but thats just never the case.

An unreal A++++ experience. Long story short my car broke down on Friday during a bad storm. I recently moved here and had nowhere to turn. They took care of me effectively, immediately, and were extremely transparent with everything. Their owner (sorry I forgot her name) even drove me home for free! Unreal service. My dashboard brake light was on, so I went to Black Bear because the review were good. I was told I needed brakes pads and rotors costing about $1,000, and that they could get me in the next day. I thought that was a little too much money. I called the Subaru dealer and was told that they don’t replace rotors any more and the brake job would be about $360. When I brought it in I was told that my brakes were fine and that the “gunky” brake fluid was causing the brake light to flash. They added new brake fluid and only charged me $55. That was 6 weeks ago. The light has not come on.

They completed a very complex set of work on my truck:-Engine replacement, including several new accessories.-Exhaust pipe repair.-Plow accessory repair.My Dodge Ram V10 can be a tough one to find parts for but they did not fail to find and install everything it needed.They juggled scheduling (mine/theirs) to get everything done before holiday break. They would not say the job was complete until all details were sorted out.In the Bristol area, this is the right shop to do business with.
