Went for a birthday dinner for restaurant week in March. Therefore, we were on a fixed menu. Service was a bit low despite the restaurant being a bit empty but our server was great and energetic once he got to us.The appetizers with the escargot and the beef were to die for. They appear to have gone for the cheaper items for the main menu. The duck dish was tasteless but the silver lining is the how accommodating the restaurant was. Upon mentioning the duck dish, they quickly offered to switch it out for another main course item of my preference. the salmon they brought in was very good. flavourful and crispy on one side. The Sunday gravy was quite good as well.I made the mistake of ordering a cheese board with a chocolate truffle for dessert. Tasty, filling but a bit pricey

Thought to be French, turned out to be American Italian. Food not bad. The olive oil for bread is good, but balsamic vinegar is not provided. Recommend Henrys soup and Wellington steak. Upper floor is good for dining, lower floor is more like a pub. Can reach the entrance from either side of the small lane.

Went during Restaurant Week. Thought it would be a great opportunity to try out the food. Capaccio and risotto were very good. Ravioli was gummy. Wellington had extremely salty bites and yet the meat was under-seasoned. Dessert and drinks ordered were nothing to write home about. Appreciated the wait service and clean plating. Maybe will think about giving the place a second chance, outside of restaurant week.

Been here a few times and like that they have small plates to share if you just want to grab a drink and some snacks but they also have a nice selection in their entrees. They do $1 oysters at happy hour and later in the evening which are fresh and delicious. The beef wellington is awesome and always cooked to perfection. It’s my favorite - you should try it.

Went with my girlfriend for our four year anniversary. The restaurant had a Happy Anniversary card ready when we arrived to our table. They neednt to have done that, but they did so because they wanted to.I ordered the Great Experiment cocktail, which was a delicious version of a limeade. I really needed something to quench my thirst, which it hit the spot. The French onions soup ordered as an appetizer was okay as I was hoping the cheese would be all melted on top. The beef wellington was cooked medium rare to perfection, the pastry dough might have been seasoned with a little too much salt. The lobster thermidore was delicious, I was hoping to find more gnocchi bits to help soak up more of the sauce, but was heavily complimented with more lobster bits.Sunday gravy is a must when eating at Marliave as it had the perfect portion from the gnocchi, to the meats, and lastly the sauce. Our chocolate cake was delicious served along with ice cream. I wish to have been served a little bit more ice cream to even out the chocolate cake, but that doesnt warrant it as a real complaint. Just being gluttonous. Our server Kaley(?) was extremely pleasant and accommodating to our needs. She had even communicated with us for the apology of the slow start because the bartender was backed up, so she made our drinks. Would definitely recommend her to serve people.

Came for the dollar oysters. Oysters are Wellfleet, Dunstable and moonstone? Could use some more TLC before bringing them out. Had some shells and sand . The bourbon democrat was great, a bit diluted with the ice. Food was mushroom risotto, salmon dish and scampi. Portions are a decent size with Boston prices ($38 each). Id recommend for the dollar oysters.

Amazing. We came here around 9 pm on a Monday night. It wasnt crowded so we got a great table by two walls of windows, which was amazing given that the restaurant has seating three stories up that gives you great views of the surrounding neighborhood. We were fortunate in that they were offering dollar oysters for 9 to 10 pm. The drinks were clever and fantastic...and a lot of them were bourbon based so right up my alley. Between the three of us we had 30 oysters, the duck liver ravioli, lobster thermador, cassoulet, and the diver scallops with sweet potato ravioli. We also got the.shrimp cocktail which turned out to be one shrimp...which was confusing and the only really disappointing part of the meal, even though it was still a great tasting shrimp. And the fact that it was right around the corner from our hotel made it convenient and allowed us to walk off a little bit of the delicious meal. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Came here for Dine Out Boston recently. My husband and I had heard good things about this place and it had good reviews online, unfortunately our experience was just average and not even worth the restaurant week price. First, the bread, which is always a good marker of whats to come, was below average. For starter my husband got the French onion soup which didnt have much flavor. I got the escargot which didnt have much flavor either considering its meant to be soaked in butter. I didnt even finish the bread that it came with to dip in the garlic butter since it didnt taste like garlic butter. For the entrees my husband got the steak frites, which was okay. He said his steak was lukewarm by the time he got it. I got the beef Wellington which was okay. And for dessert he got the butterscotch which he enjoyed and I got the box of truffles which were average. Also I know the service can be subpar because things get busy during restaurant week, but the restaurant wasnt that full from what I could tell and yet one of the servers initially brought us someone elses entrees while we were still eating our appetizer. I also noticed the servers had mistaken some other peoples orders around me. Overall just an average experience.

Horrendously disappointed. I really wanted to like this place after reading the reviews online. The steak was haphazardly thrown on the plate and there was a quarter pat of butter thrown on top of it. Arrived at ~3:55p and left at ~5:10p. We were served by multiple people including the hostess. Three tables arrived after us, but got their food and left BEFORE us. Felt like we got forgotten by our original waitress (I think her name was Ashley?) Since we got our oysters in normal time. But then no one ever came back to ask what we wanted for our entrees. Had to tell someone myself we needed our complimentary bread (only because we saw another table receive some) and needed to order; received no apology for the long wait, just got an ok. Food was great and I like how its $1 oysters from 4-6p & 9-10p every day (only reason for 2 stars instead of 1).

This was our second time at this restaurant and I must say it was a disappointment. Our first visit, last spring, was memorable so this time in Boston we were excited about another meal here. The hostess was lovely. A cocktail at the bar was fun. A table upstairs with a view was nice. Our servers were very pleasant and helpful. The bread and olive oil were delicious. Then, the meal...my wife’s beet salad was just that, beets with just a piece of arugula on top. Where’s the salad? My chopped salad was better but still not at the same standard as our last visit. We decided to have the split pea soup...ugh. Lots of fat in a thick broth that went “thump.” Deal us out at $60. Not sure if we’ll return for more than cocktails.

I am a retired chef, but on my last visit to Marliave I was a member of a group of old men who have a monthly outing to various restaurants in this area. On this outing we all had a great experience, I had the rabbit which was different from the last time I had it, but it was still excellent. The selections of the other 14 members of my group were quite varied, but every person thought that the food was great. In my mind that means that all 15 would have given this restaurant 5 stars! Good work Scott. (the owner.)One of the aspects that sets it apart from the other top Boston restaurants is its menu. Many restaurants dumb down their offerings before 5pm. Here they offer everything all day. Not only can you get beef wellington for lunch but for dinner you could have escargot as an appetizer followed by scrambled eggs as your entree.

I’m giving it a 2 because the friendly waitstaff tried to make things right, but this meal was disgusting. I ordered the steak-frites, and had to send it back because the butter they put on the steak was spoiled. I ordered ravioli to replace it, which was hard and crunchy at the corners like it hadn’t been boiled long enough. The table bread was something akin to Wonder Bread with no crust. They also had no Dijon mustard - what kind of French restaurant doesn’t have Dijon? The upstairs room has zero character (unlike downstairs) and comically bad art on the walls.
