Couldn’t be happier with the service my husband and I received at the Spokehouse. Noah’s passion, work ethic, and commitment to the community is what led us to choose the Spokehouse. We received speedy and professional service without breaking the bank. We will continue to use the Spokehouse for all of our biking needs and would recommend them to anyone looking for superior bike mechanic services.

I bought my daughter a bicycle here from Noah and Jay and they stayed after hours to put it together and ensure it was perfectly fit for her. They also fixed my son’s bike which I’d assembled improperly. The quality of their service is outstanding. I recommend them to everyone I know and will continue doing so.

This space is more than just a bike shop, but a true pillar in the community. I live right across the street, and have seen how these neighbors have given a completely different energy charge to the area since their arrival. Im excited for their continued success. & See, I didnt even TALK about their bike selection, and incredible service. Good people, truly.

As the owner and CEO of the 1854 Cycling Company it is my honor to have my bicycles on sale and available at the Spokehouse. I have received nothing but wonderful feedback from my customers who have gone to this location and purchased our bicycles. They have all felt welcomed by Noah & his staff. We are looking forward to ensuring that the Spokehouse remains as one of our premier retailers within the city of Boston.

These folks are amazing! I got the most beautiful bike in the world from Noah about 2 or 3 years ago for my birthday. I traded my old red bike that I bought off of craigslist, which was to small for me, for a red and blue cruiser/commuter bike with a basket. I always get compliments while riding it and it’s still in great condition. I’m so grateful for that very affordable trade in. The service here is amazing and the bikes are affordable. This is one of the few, if not only, Black owned bike shops in Boston. If you are all about support Black and queer folks, support Spokehouse. You will leave with a smile.

I’ve known the owner of the shop, Noah, for well over a decade and his dedication to the community and to bicycling has helped him build this business from the ground up. My husband is a former bike mechanic and this is one of the few places we trust to buy bikes and/or parts for us and our kids. They are trustworthy, hardworking, knowledgeable and affordable, not to mention kind and helpful. What more could someone want in a shop?

Ive been coming to this shop for years, both in their previous location and their current one. My partners son had outgrown his bike so we went down to Bowdoin Bike School to see what they had in his size. We picked one out with Noahs help and they set to work on fixing it up and getting it ready for pick up in a couple weeks. In the meantime, we got a message from Noah saying another bike had come in that was a similar size but was newer, had better components, etc, and asked if we wanted that one instead for the same price. Its such a good feeling when a shop clearly has your best interests as a customer in mind. Since then weve gotten two more bikes from there. Not only is it a bike shop but its a community space, and when you visit you dont get that intimidating feeling you sometimes get in a bike shop. Noah, Jay, and their adorable dog Max are friendly and welcoming. Support this special place and give them your business whenever you can!

My family has had great service from the folks at Spokehouse. Their attention to my young child as he contemplated which bike would suit him was so refreshing, and in keeping with how they treat everyone who walks in the store. They took care with repairing my bike even though its a jalopy with a lot of miles on it.Thank you for opening your doors every day and living your values the way you do.

Don’t come here. I brought my bike for a tune up and needed the handlebars wrapped. It took a week and a half, when I picked up the bike they wrapped the handlebars wrong and then used red electrical tape on the ends. My bike is all black, and when I asked if they had black tape, they told me no and then told me to go to Home Depot and buy some and put it on myself. The price of the wrap that had been quoted to me was double the price when I picked the bike up. The same day I had to pick up a pair of triathlon shorts, so I went to a different shop after I paid for the bike, and bike technicians there took one look at the wrapping they said that it was the worst wrapping technique they had ever seen. They asked me if I would allow them to re-wrap it, since it was that bad. I wanted to support a local business, but I will never bring my bike here again, as the process was so frustrating and the service was so poor.

DO NOT BUY BICYCLES HERE, or parts for that matter!!! This is a Bicycle Chop Shop with a front of being a bicycle school/shop. I bought a bicycle from here a few months ago and got a rude awakening when I put it on Letgo last week and was contacted by actual owner accusing me of stealing his bike. I explained that I bought the bike in Dorchester at Spokehouse but no longer had the receipt since it had been months since my purchase. The owner did have his paperwork with the bicycles serial number so I had to return it to him and almost faced a possession of stolen property charge. I attempted to contact Noah the owner of Spokehouse a few times, finally getting a call back from a female telling me that they get their bikes from donations, and that they wouldnt refund my money. So now Im out the $200 I paid for the bike, and the bike itself. I am glad that the true owner got his stolen bike back but am not happy about the whole situation. Please do not shop here and support their criminal enterprise.

My husband and I had the absolute WORST customer service experience here ever. My husband is an avid cyclist and also builds his own bicycles and has been to this store a couple of times where he had decent experiences. However when we stopped in today it was very far from decent. Before we even walked into the store we had been standing outside talking to a friend and a woman rudely opened the door and asked us not to stand in front of her shop, even though we werent in the direct doorway or in the way of anybody trying to go in or out. Once we did go into the store the woman behind the counter was anything but welcoming. Her tone was extremely snooty and it was almost as if we were a bother coming into the shop. My husband asked if the man who worked there was available and she told us (in her snippy tone) My HUSBAND is with another client right now.(Even though there was clearly noone else inside the shop). We started to ask if they take used bikes for consignment and she said NO we dont buy bicycles!!, in the rudest way possible. So my husband said to me You know what honey lets just get out of here and go somewhere else, I feel like she is being ignorant towards us. I agreed and we left. Seconds later a man came flying out the door screaming at us asking if we had said a derogatory word I dont wish to post on here. My husband and I (in shock at how he came running and screaming after us) said NO absolutely not! We said the word ignorant, that your wife was being ignorant towards us The man, who is the store owner, continued to keep stepping into my husband like he wanted him to fight him or something, it was almost as if he associated the two words as synonyms which they are not! My husband backed away continuing to tell him he did not say what he thought he did. I tried to walk away holding my husbands chest but the store owner just kept coming after us in a threatening manner. After about 2 or 3 minutes of this the store owner finally backed off and we went on our way but I couldnt, and still cant, believe the way we had been treated by the store owners. Bottom line is we will not be bringing this establishment any more of our business and are spreading the word about the disrespect we received here.

I wanted to like this shop, I really did. I love everything about it: its philosophy, its attempt to serve the community while it helps grow community. I mean really, whats not to love? Unfortunately for me, the service was not only poor, but downright inept. I brought my bike in for a tune-up. It took forever and a day, and they never called. I had to chase them down. When I did, I was told I needed a new free-wheel, then, no free-wheel could be mounted on my back wheel because it was stripped. When I finally picked up my bike, there was a new free-wheel mounted on my old wheel. So much for being stripped. That was a 3 week saga, but it gets worse. I tested my bike and said there was a knocking sound. The person who waited on me tested it, but couldnt really hear what I did, couldnt really figure out the problem, so he walked away. Just walked away and left me standing there. So I just took the bike. I rode it to work and the knocking was LOUD. I took it back. Noah tried this and that, and I took it again. Still knocked. Brought it back again and was told, it must be the bottom bracket. Noah tried finding a bottom bracket. While he measured and searched, a guy from another bikeshop came in and said,Oh, Trek mountain? They all take a 75. Thats the level of knowledge Id like working on my bike. So Bowdoin did have the bracket, and would have to order it. I was told to come back in 4 days. Came back, no bottom bracket. After another week I got a call and went back. New bottom bracket on, same problem: knock, knock, knock with every revolution of the pedals. This time, at least, the guy did not just walk away from me. He took my bike and rode it for half-an hour--leaving me stranded and wondering where he went. But he came back and said, Yeah, its the free wheel. That would be the free wheel they put on right? I was concerned that it looked like a cheap piece of junk when I saw it, now he was confirming it.The bottom line is, when you run a bike shop, your repairs cant create new problems. This place lacks competence and downright service skills. Its not OK to say youll get the part in a couple of days and then fail to do so--especially when all you are going to do is run down to Ashmont Cycles and buy the part.I learned my lesson: go to Ashmont cycles.

There is so much about this business and the people who are involved in its success that I dont know where to begin.First and foremost, Noah and Jovanni know bicycles. They were able to diagnose the issues with the bike I brought in and were able to get me back on the road the same day. Additionally, they were able to show me simpler and more cost effective ways for me to solve additional bike problems I brought to there attention. For these two reasons alone, I highly recommend anyone in the Roxbury and Dorchester area with a bicycle patronize this business. There are many other reasons which I will share presently. Bowdoin Bike School takes in donated bikes and strips them down for usable parts. Thus they reduce the need for further manufactured parts and reuse those parts which are serviceable. They also rebuild bikes from the frame up instead of selling new bikes. For those who want to reduce the impact they have on the planet beyond what they already do by riding, BBS is the place to patronize. The prices for services at the Bowdoin Bike School are the best in Boston. I know; I have had my bikes serviced at every other bike shop in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Watertown, and Medford, and these cats offer the best rates for expert work.I have never been to a bike shop which I would recommend more highly. I am indebted to the gentlefolk who run and own this shop.
