Jim at the Caning Shop provides truly exceptional customer service. I recently sent a jigsaw to him for repairs. He made the repairs at no charge to me and returned the saw with a new set of blades, also at no charge. Unfortunately, through no fault of Jims, the saw was damaged by the shipping company on its way back to me. Jim not only provided me with another new saw (again at no charge), but also provided a thoughtful letter describing ways I could get the best use of my jigsaw.

Good materials... Hands down... Family has been going here for several decades... That being said, the last time I went we were ignored by all the employees exept for the Asian lady who was so kind and helpful it kept us from just walking out... I still go here because no other shop has tge materials I require.

Very friendly and knowledgeable. They can build or rebuild a rattan chair including the frame. They rebuilt the seat from a ww1 Jenny and a Ford trimotor. I went to buy a rattan pole to make Escrima sticks but saw lots of supplies and books for gourd art and musical instruments. Also stuff for weaving and tying. A quick buy and run visit turned into a 1hr tour and visit.

Super interesting place. Kind of difficult to find a shop to purchase caning stuff. This place evidently also repairs cane furniture, and has classes. Filled to ceiling (not s joke!) with great pieces of furniture.I am redoing chairs myself and drove a couple of hours to try to decide on a pattern of pre-woven cane. The lady working was so nice, she gave me several free swatches to take home so I could be sure. Also she advised which materials would be easy for a beginner to use. Customer service is 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.Only drawback, very limited Saturday hours. I wish they were open all day since shop is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Don’t forget, there’s an online store if you make it during there hours of operation!Store has the most beautiful small multi-colored woven baskets-so fine and detailed, wish I could afford them!

If i could give more than 5 stars I would. The owner is more than helpful. I brought in an older used gourd saw i had bought from a friend. I brought it to him so he could tell me about the equipment. he rewired the saw and gave me a new updated transformer for it. He took the time to teach me the correct way to use it and even gave me some free blades and a tool bag. WOW! The greatest customer service ever! Did not charge me a dime.

Brought our caned chairs in for repair. An employee will provide an estimate for repairs, provide you with a written estimate and a time when the work is completed. You have 30 days to pickup your items after which you will be charged a small fee for storage. The entrance is located on a side street off Gilman. This is a working shop, not a place to browse. They have been in business for many years so they must be doing something right.

Great shop with tons of interesting supplies and tools. Great selection of several different crafting sections including leather work, carving, and egg dyes. Fantastically helpful and friendly staff!

We stumbled on this place when getting off the freeway to find a bathroom. Walked in and the staff, who were all busy, not only stopped to help us out and let us use their bathroom they showed us around, explained what they did, went through the owners obscure collection of art, and were some of the friendliest group Ive ever met. We didnt spend a dime, but we all left feeling like we gained something from the experience! That sounds cheesy, but very true :) If you need any Caning, go here, they know their stuff!

As a omnivorous crafter and basketry dilettante, I cannot speak for all basket makers or chair weavers, but they more than adequately supplied my fibre-y needs, although I was hoping for more tangentially related books like jewelry made with basketry techniques and the like. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly.

What a treasure! The sell everything for do-it-yourselfers, but their experts will also fix your item for you. They also have classes in caning as well as gourd decorating! Very nice people who are the best at this craft.

Cute, eclectic store! Love love the setup. So many things to look at, learn and be inspired.They have many books on sale, they teach classes/workshops, and even fix any broken caning projects.Jim, the owner is absolutely amazing! He is so knowledgeable, so smart and very helpful. He is an inventory of sorts, and makes cool versions of different tools with twists of his own, often improving on the original idea of the tools!I came by the caning store through a friend of mine, since Jim sells pysanky supplies here and I am a pysanky artist. Pysanky are Ukrainian Easter eggs. Its an art form where you decorate eggs using the batik technique.I, now sometimes, teach pysanky classes at the caning shop, with my friend who got me to this store. Jim is ever welcoming and a wonderful person to work with in any capacity!
