It was my first time in a beauty supply store. I went in and looked around as a woman said hello to me when I first walked in. At first I thought it was a friendly atmosphere. I then headed to the wigs, as I was excited to look at them. My husband walked in a few minutes after I did, so he called for me & I told him where I was in the store. He sat on the couch in the wig section & played on his phone as I was admiring the wigs. A man ran up & asked if we needed help. I said no thanks & that we were just looking. He said something in another language to the woman that initially said hi to me when I first walked in. She then cane to the section my husband and I were in, pulled up a chair & stared at us while I was looki ig at the wigs. I immediately felt uncomfortable. I looked a few more minutes, then ended up leaving as I felt very very uncomfortable. It’s strange to be stared down. As we headed to leave the woman chuckled. I don’t know what she thought, or what the man thought but I won’t be coming here ever again. It sucks because as I previously stated, it seemed to welcoming but turned for the worst. Can’t shake the thought of racial profiling out of my head. I’m a woman of color, my husband is a white man for reference.
