Cutest local book shop with great selection of books and other adorable items. I liked the heavy emphasis on Lgbtqia inclusion & political activism.I called ahead of time to see if they had Mexican Gothic in stock (they did!) and the nice employee there volunteered a discounted book because it was only slightly damaged. I never would have found it otherwise!I’ll definitely be coming back here to support this lovely small business!

My wife and I were very excited to visit and support this shop in order to purchase a book for our soon to be born daughter. However we were sorely disappointed when the clerk in the store was rude to us. I paid with a debit card and she asked me for my pin. I asked if I could punch it in on the keypad behind the counter and she rudely said, I dont want you back here. I told her I wasnt comfortable giving her my pin and she condescendingly asked if I was a cop and that I was only the second person in five years to not give her my pin.As nice as it is that a store like this exists, and as great as the products are, I will not be returning because of the rudeness and inappropriate behavior of the clerk.

This is a great feminist bookstore with a thourough selection in store. If they dont have your book in-store then they might have it online. That was the case for me today.I went in and the clerk check the availability of books for me. Unfortunately they didnt have what I was looking for but they had it online. My only suggestion is that the clerk could have told me that I can order the books online because I only found this out after I left when I searched for the books I wanted.I ordered from their online page and it was really simple. I can even pay in store for my online order. Come support this great bookstore.

Im a big supporter of locally owned, small businesses. Its a stance rooted in my concept of deep democracy and my understanding of economics. We vote with our dollars. As such, I support the places and spaces that contribute to the quality of life I hold dear. BookWoman is just one of those places. I always find something to delight me, and if they dont have what I need, they always help me figure out where I can get it. In turn, I always make sure to buy something, every time I go. And I always find something to enrich my life, be it a set of femenist notecards to write my friends and family, or a puzzle to do with friends, or a hilarious magnet to put on my fridge. Its a gem of a store. Go check it out.

Went to BookWoman for the first time today to pick up a pride flag. I was nervous because of the pandemic but it ended up being an incredible experience. I wanted to get in and out quickly since there were so many people coming to get flags and even in the very short time I was there I saw a book that just screamed at me to buy it for my niece. The person who was at the register was doing so much and dealing with so many people while still keeping things socially distant (only 4 people in the store at a time) and yet they still were incredibly kind and helpful. When things have settled more in this state I know Ill be back about a million times. So happy to have found this store and in the meantime Ill probably end up buying from their website because they have so much that I know Id love to read.

Book Woman is a hidden gem nestled among the shops on North Lamar. Take a look at their calendar of events and you will be awed by the inspiration this tiny bookstore spreads. Many of the books, but not all, are written by and for women. Inside walls are cram packed with feminist merchandise such as socks, t-shirts, bumper stickers, and such. Stop in and check this lovely bookstore out!

My best friend and I have been shopping at Book Woman for years. It is a small, quaint, woman-oriented bookstore with everything you could yearn for. I am a lesbian pagan, as such, there are wonderful books, fiction and non-fiction from lesbian writers, there are also books on paganism, tarot cards and books. There is a vast array of popular books by women authors as well as poetry and childrens books. I have taken my fiancé and our daughter and they both LOVE this store! They have found something every time we go. The staff are quite friendly and helpful. They even have books on surviving certain aspects of life. Such a wonderful, warm bookstore. Definitely a must for the female bookworm. (There are a couple of books for the men-folk, as well). If you are in to supporting a local mom and pop business, this would be a grand one to grace with your business.

~*Important Note: if youre buying online and planning on picking it up, its actually better for the store if you select Pay at Store instead of purchasing via the website*~This was my first time here and Ill definitely be back soon. Staff was attentive to the need to keep themselves and customers safe in these unusual circumstances (limiting customers in the store, providing sanitizer), while still being courteous and delivering great service. I very much appreciate small businesses that are doing the right things to keep everyone safe while still trying to keep their business running.I bought online and paid in the store (they prefer this because online purchases get hit with double the transaction fees), and browsed for a few minutes afterwards. Great selection. Despite being a relatively small store I found half a dozen books on my I Need This! list and another dozen new ones that quickly joined them on the list. In the end I left with only the one I selected online, promising myself another trip to BookWoman would be a gift to myself in the future.

I visited this quaint little bookshop recently and I was immediately taken with it. How have I lived in Austin for 15 years and never visited this local gem?? The store is right beside a bridal shop called Blush Bridal Lounge and there is sufficient parking on Lamar and along the side street Nelray Blvd. The two staff members working were both women and they were quick to respond to our requests, to make suggestions, and even to special-order a book for me which was out of stock. I visited the shop with two of my female transgender friends and we were all made to feel welcome. The shop is cozy but there is still plenty of room to browse. I loved the selection of literature, greeting cards, t-shirts and little sculptures all representing a powerful feminist motif. I felt safe and my interests were represented in every direction I turned. They have a large selection of LGBTQIA+ fiction and nonfiction, as well as works by contemporary and local authors. There is a YA (young adult) section and a childrens section too! There is also a little corner at the back of the store where used books are sold at significantly reduced prices. It warmed my heart to support a local bookshop as there are just so few these days. Obviously, at a local bookstore, you will pay higher prices than the online conglomerates who buy in bulk and can afford to take massive cuts. I rest assured knowing that my hard-earned dollars are going back into my local community, keeping Austin women employed, and our local authors are receiving a larger percentage of these sales compared to the mass bookseller cuts. At the end of the day, Ill pay the extra dollar and retain an Austin gem like BookWoman. We will certainly return.
