My girlfriend and I came here for new hiking boots, and the staff was so helpful. They fitted her and explained every step along the way. We also left with socks they recommended. I would trust these folks with any of my outdoorsy questions - they even pointed us towards some great trails. I look forward to giving them more of my business!

They had everything I was looking for to gear up for a big multi day hike Im preparing for. This is an excellent store to find the technical and specific items that the average outdoor store is just not going to carry. The staff were very knowledgeable and polite as well. Cant recommend this store enough.

Fantastic outdoor outfitter store, specializing in camping, water sports, and climbing gear. You can also find nice river and area topographical maps, as well as some old display items not for sale, but fun to view. Of course, they also have retail items in clothing and shoes. The service was fantastic as one of the women working there helped the kids on the balance slackline and swing on the climbing rope equipped with carabiners

This is the most amazing store. I came in for hiking boots, and one of the owners of the shop personally talked to me about what I was looking for, and what they had in stock. He glanced down at my feet and asked if I was a 9.5 shoe size (YES). He was so incredibly knowledgeable about every facet of boots, from the materials, to the trends over the years, and what he would recommend for what I would be using them for. I bought a pair of boots, and 2 pairs of Darn Tough socks (and he threw one of the pairs in for free to wish me luck on my new wilderness job).Ive had the boots on for 2 weeks straight at work and they fit like a glove. I will be coming to this store for everything possible because I trust the integrity they show and the products they believe in.

I just bought a pair of low top hikers in here and all I have to say is wow. I was assisted by Trent and he was awesome. He is definitely a hiking shoe enthusiast. He told me all about several shoes and helped me pick a winner. I usually would have to think a while about a $150 pair of shoes but Trents expertise made me feel totally confident about my purchase. The shop had great selection. Trent and his wife even looked up some road closures online to help me find my way to a hike they recommended. I will definitely be coming back.

We had a great experience here while we were visiting Asheville! I love the layout of this store, it has the essentials without being overwhelming. The service was excellent!! The prices were very competitive (we got a better deal on both of our backpacks than on Amazon)!! I was really impressed. It was a very laid-back atmosphere. We ordered a couple of beers and shopped. We even lost track of time and ended shopping for 45 minutes past closing, and the gentleman just let us shop and didnt say word! I really cant say enough good things about this place! Im sure well be back!

As a member of the Carolinas Climbers Coalition, you can recover 10% off anything at Black Dome. They have what you need for climbing and a guy with lots of information about climbing for all questions and to help figure out what would be best for your needs. However, he is only one person and when he is in a discussion with someone I waited 15-20 minutes for acknowledgment that I was even there in line. With not even a glance or Ill be right with you, I found I needed to get another store person to help me in that department bc its not comfortable interrupting a conversation. I only needed two things - gym rope and a grigri - and shopping wouldve taken less than 5 minutes that day but it wasnt the case.I intend to still shop here for climbing equipment and I hope I would be acknowledged for my presence in line next time.

Came in expecting a smaller hiking store. I was not expecting this place to be so big! I came up to pick up a climbing guide and left with so much more! I got talking to Ross(behind the climbing counter) and he was packed with local climbing knowledge and was friendly to boot. We talked so long that my little sister had to come drag me away from the counter. Even though I didnt have money for Trad gear he was happy to pull items off the wall, let me play with them and gave his personal opinions on each. Extra points for the 3 shop dogs in at the time too

Very good experience. Was looking to buy my first pair of rock climbing shoes -so I would no longer rent mediocre gym shoes- and have had no luck in 4 different retailers. A very knowledgable staff member helped me try on all of the shoes I wished and gave great advice and helped me find a great shoe that I would never have otherwise tried on. The only reason I gave it 4/5 is that the prices are high compared to some other outfitters. In sum: extremely friendly, patient, and knowledgable.

When I asked about white water rafting outfitters the male passed me to the so called expert again the same woman/girl. She gave me the name of the biggest outfitter in the area and was less than willing to share other information, but did name all the rivers running. She than took off to the back office without even cashing me out, telling the guy to handle it. Later I overheard her complaining about the stupid questions from customers and how that is ruining her day. I guess that was me. Maybe the expert needs a new expertise.
