The experience was great!Super friendly and positive batista!Unique design with some old engine elements. Great product with decent execution of brew and delivery. I think the pour over might be a little better with a higher water to coffee ratio and pouring from carafe into cup, as it is piping hot!Would love to come back again!
Our customer service experience was really perfect. We asked a ton of questions, and Jeffrey was really informative and so was the other person working that day, not sure of her name. We left happy and excited about the batista academy, and our coffee and biscotti were really good.
They just served me the smoothest and most well-balanced red eye Ive ever had. I will definitely be going back
Large seating area indoor/outdoor. Good wifi. Great selection of coffee. Black diesel coffee environment is relaxing
I really like this place. The vibe and the coffee are good! I had a different experience the last time I did curbside with barista (Lauren H). She was rude taking my order then sat coffee down on table outside and didn’t let me know it was my order. She didn’t acknowledge that it was mine and it was confusing and rude. I’m a customer service manager and was super turned off by that! Otherwise people have been great.
Cool ambiance but subpar coffee and ac cold enough to deter you from staying too long. Ordered a latte that was pretty much warm milk w a hint of espresso. I have never had latte so weak. I tried studying inside but the ac was blowing so cold that I eventually walked out and threw away the cup of milk along the way.
Happened upon this wonderful coffee shop while hanging around Ann Arbor for the weekend. Truly amazing, rarely (if ever) have I seen so many options and brew methods available. If you cant find what you want here, its a you problem. Great friendly staff and excellent seating options with a patio.
The coffee is excellent—so many options—and everyone who works here is really nice! When Helena makes my drinks for me I know theyre going to be good.
Tried a pack of their roasted beans. One of the few that stand out with immense flavor ! Will be returning soon for more.
Just moved here from Colorado and this was the first place I got coffee at. I got an iced latte with honey and lavender and it was bomb. Everyone was really nice. This will definitely be my go to.
Finally a place that serves decent coffee!! Love the outside seating and the staff and patrons there were nice. I accidentally left my purse in a chair outside. It was brought in the store and the barista secured it for me. Much appreciated.
I recently ordered a Baratza coffee grinder as a gift for my daughter. I have one myself and love it.Customer service was excellent. They corresponded promptly via both phone and email. They also sent a couple samples of their coffee!I would recommend Black Diesel coffee to anyone that is looking for great coffee, coffee equipment, and accessories.
I’ve been going here for a year and a half and I’ve tried to give this place a “second try” every time I go since it’s a local coffee shop. The customer service is terrible - every time the staff acts like you’re inconveniencing them for being there - and their prices are outrageously expensive. I went in the other day for a coffee and got their seasonal pumpkin cold brew. They charged me $6 for the cold brew and an additional $2.60 for the pumpkin syrup and a splash of cream. So $8 for a so-so coffee in the Midwest. Officially done trying with Black Diesel.
Best flat white ever! I had to make sure I was able to go twice during my visit to Ann Arbor. If you love coffee, this is a must visit!
All the barista are great, theres one in particular that goes out of his way to make the best shot of espresso possible I dont know his name but the guy is killing it. Great work everybody! Love this place :)
Stopped in for a quick but pricey snack on my way to an important meeting. Coffee was just ok, and the paper cup leaked on me. Lemon scone was delicious.
There are no prices posted. Our regular coffee and small chai cost over $10. When I looked at the menu online, I was surprised to see that almost anything they did to your drink was an additional charge. None of this was shared at the time of ordering. The drinks tasted fine, but I wont be back.
In my experience there has been a generally unwelcoming vibe after I get past the cashier. Additionally orders were often slow or missing items.
Awesome outdoor seating, kind service with a smile, and delicious coffee and lattes! Highly recommend checking this place out!
I ordered a Baratza coffee bean grinder from them online for delivery because I wanted to support local (to Michigan). They were very communicative and shipped the order and I got it within a few days along with a sample of their coffee. Excellent customer service!
Paid $7 for a small iced latte with soy that was just ok. Nothing amazing, definitely not with that price. Also disappointed I couldn’t get an iced coffee - I guess they only do cold brew. I prefer Roos or York and those are just around the corner.
Macchiato was great! Barista made it just right and didn’t give me a latte.
Fairly good coffee and a nice ambiance, but probably 20% more expensive than the better coffee shops in town. Go for the patio seating and easy parking, but expect to pay for it
I was excited to try Black Diesel Coffee after it was recommended to me emphatically by a current patron. The staff was friendly and professional, and the cafe itself looked clean. There is a printer in the corner; though I didnt use it, this might be something to look into for people that want a cafe to study/work at. Several people were working on computers, while others were talking in an open area. It looks like a nice place to hang out!My cappuccino was aesthetically pleasing and the right temperature. The foam was deliciously bitter and airy, and the rest of the coffee was also on point. A great experience, and far better than your average Starbucks cappuccino. The smallest size (piccolo) is $3.75, which is within the expected price of your average Starbucks tall espresso-based drink. In summary, I would highly recommend Black Diesel for their lovely cappuccino, and it looks like a good place to stay a while too!
Friendly staff, nice engine themed decor
Decent sized drinks and the staff was welcoming. Ill have to go again to get a full read on the place but Id say its really good.
Vanilla Latte! I took my lid off and seen the pretty art they do, its cute!
It was refreshing encountering baristas who were knowledgeable about coffee and not just their own cafe. They represented their shop well, and at the same time, they could speak about the other great place around town. Well crafted coffee. However, some of the beans they were selling were almost 2 months off roast. Still, 5 star experience from a fantastic cafe!
Really cool space inside. But more so I enjoy the vibe of sitting outside watching the cars speed by.
Here From Raleigh NC to help with the flooding we are staying in an air b and b close by. Staff was very friendly and coffee was great will visit again.
It was cold, expensive, and stale. I couldnt believe they charged me $7.20 for two cold cups of coffee that sat there for two and half hours. They did however gave me a refund when I asked for it.
It’s a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. Amazing coffee, food and service. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations.
A little expensive! Then again, overhead can be a drag! The coffee was perfect & warmed and woke us. Thats what its all about! 😊
Excellent everything. Stopped in twice in a weekend because the coffee is great and the service was extremely friendly.
The best Tiramisu Late comes from Black Diesel Coffee in Ann Arbor. My 1st time there was on Jan.17, 2021 and I will definitly be back to try some of their other flavors. Some places skimp on the flavors or it is too sweet. My late was perfect!
Had drinks given in paper cups even though it was clear with our bags and stuff we were planning to dine in. Werent asked either. Coffee is never great drinking from a paper cup. Also the second we walked in the girl at the counter asked what we wanted even though we did not walk to the counter. We wanted a moment to look at the menu but she seemed very eager take our order as soon as possible. Lastly no prices on the menu. We got a small black tea with milk and a mocha and it cost $9.60, which seemed a little pricey, also was verbally asked what tip wanted to leave. I prefer to tip discreetly and not be asked loudly in a public setting.
The store manager, Caty, is very friendly and is extremely knowledgeable about her cafes products. Her staff are wonderful. They suggest different menu items and offer samples of each. The cinnamon roll we bought was delicious and not overly sweet. We bought a latte, kombucha (which is like a sparkling juice), and a wonderful cinnamon roll!
One of the better local coffee spots. Check their chalk board for specialties.
Nice space indoors and out. Friendly staff. My cappuccino was really a latte- ew.
In overall coffee and food experience: the espresso is very flavorful without being overpowering. The food is overall tasty and is presented well.Coffee shop experience: The coffee shop is very quiet, which is nice for studying, but it feels more like a library.Staff: They are friendly, though I would have loved a suggestion or a hello before I had reached the counter. Since this was my first time here, I took an extra bit of time to process the menu and my options. The cashier did not seem to want to talk or ask any probing questions.Overall: I feel this young coffee shop has room for improvement. With a base of good espresso and good food it should be simple.
20 minute delay to take my order this morning. The staff is overworked - looks like only one barista.
Good coffee, nice atmosphere. Could use a better food selection.
Only place in Ann Arbor i will get coffee. Always tastes great! Friendly staff, easy parking
Where good friends connect!
Best coffee place in ann arbour
Super friendly and quick service. We got the honey bee latte and lavender white mocha - both very good! I ordered an iced latte but received it hot. Not a problem for me either way because I like both, but just make sure to specify!
Stopped here on a whim during a last-minute trip to Ann Arbor. I was not disappointed! The barista there made me a caramel macchiato which was the best coffee I believe I’ve ever had! The staff there was helpful and friendly. Also, they have a wonderful patio area that is very cozy yet Covid-conscious :)
Cole brew was fire but .85¢ for almond milk is a little much
The quality of the espresso drinks completely depends on whos working. They can be mediocre or very good. The atmosphere is nice but feels more like a chain than a local coffee shop.
Great Sumatran pour-over from these folks and friendly service
Friendly barista, high quality coffee, and peaceful environment.
Zingermans high prices and quality. Store and outdoor area enhances the neighborhood.
Excellent coffee!! Great employees! One of the few places in town where I could sit and enjoy my coffee during the pandemic!
Great coffee, great pumpkin muffin, nice sunny patio on a lovely fall day. Cant beat it. Want to try the Carmel apple chai soooo much.
This place has a great atmosphere. It has comfortable places to sit. Theyre are many places to either be alone and get some work done or areas to hang out with friends and talk. It has a very nice patio which is actually great for all seasons. Its definitely a place Id go back to.
The barista got my frozen cafe mocha order wrong, twice. Too bad. The place is great. Clean. Nice patio.
My latte was good, my girlfriends chai did not really taste like chai. Also was quite expensive, even compared to the other places in ann arbor.
Quiet, clean, with a very sophisticated and modern interior. Very nice patio with outdoor wicker couches and shade umbrellas. Variety is excellent and the service was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Definitely will come back again, their green tea was excellent.
Went to the place for the first time today. I ordered a Vanilla Cold Brew and it tasted like paint thinner. I barely got through 2 sips of it and had to pour it all out. These drinks cost $5, you guys should be more aware of what kind of product you are serving to the customer. Thoroughly disappointed.
Good coffee and space if it wasnt covid times... For now it feels very cramped
Finally a place that has the power to stay in that location. Creative drinks and the classics. No complaints about the food. These people that work here really seem to care about the product and the experience of their place. Will definitely go back again and again.
The coffee is good and the food, although limited was pretty good. I had a peanut butter and banana waffle which was nothing really special but was good. The coffee shop isnt big but it is a convenient and not overcrowded location. And really, the coffee I had was good.
Good coffee and great customer service.
Very good coffee. Have enjoyed everything that Ive tried. Fair trade and provide customers with the freshest coffee from Michigan roasters.
Very nice coffee shop
Black Diesel has tasty coffee drinks beyond the standard fare, like Con Miel (honey-sweetened latte), and they are willing and able to try to make just about any drink you want. They usually have a modest assortment of sweet treats if you want a bit of indulgence. Theyre always busy (with loyal customers) without being as packed as campus town spots.
If you’re looking for a great place to experience specialty coffee and a friendly and caring staff look no further than Black Diesel Coffee. When I had started going to Black Diesel Coffee I had only ever experienced quick “in and out” coffee places so getting to grow my pallet and experience good coffee has been an amazing experience. The staff are very accommodating and are more than willing to walk you through the different specialty coffees and traditional espresso beverages offered, also the different forms of preparation for the drink being made. The selection of dairy free milks is also a nice touch especially since I have a lactose allergy.Overall the sense of community and professionalism here really sets Black Diesel above the rest.
We all need direction on out way to shop but shop we would like to do
Exquisite coffee... Just incredible. The service is very warm and welcoming. Many different types of seating available and a wonderful ambience.
Baristas were nice and its a great location. I havent gone too many times since it was caribou but I might start going more often!
My favorite coffee shop. I never take time out to write reviews unless a place is 5 stars or zero. Im not a coffee expert like many people who have commented here. My goal is a hot cup of coffee at a fair price and a good place to drink it. This place has free refills on in-house regular coffee, and I can tell its not gas-station coffee, which I also drink. They seem to work hard to make sure the people who work there are friendly and welcoming of anyone who walks through the door. In a town full of eccentrics (like me) it is great to see a place where all are welcome.
I live right down the road, so I couldn’t believe I had never been to Black Diesel before! I love this place. There’s a great selection of single-origin, pour-over coffees as well as other coffee & tea options. They also serve a variety of foods from their menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks (breakfast and baked goods are served all day). All of the packaged coffees they sell are local (most are from Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company) and smell amazing. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, and their customer service rules. The environment employs a cool, 1950’s diner-style/industrial vibe. With a variety of music playing in the background, Black Diesel is quiet enough for studying/working or for professional meetings; At the same time, it’s vibrant enough for meeting up with friends. I will definitely be coming back!
Great Coffee and Amazing Croissants. Got a Latte and asked for a drip as i was working there for quite sometime. They dint charge me for the drip.Make sure you try the croissant.
The coffee their is amazing
Quickly becoming one of my favorite coffee spots in Ann Arbor. The service is quick and friendly. The space is well designed and decorated. Atmosphere is quiet and comfortable. And the coffee is great!
I love people who are passionate about their work, and was so impressed by Kirsten who explained the entire history and process of pour over to me as she made my order. She was super knowledgeable and friendly and it made me enjoy my already delicious coffee that much more! Overall a great space to hang out or get work done, with plenty of seating and a large shady patio. Ill definitely be back!
Needs more helpers for morning hours
Close enough to campus that its convenient, but not close enough that its too crowded.
One of the better coffee shops in Ann Arbor. Expect strong coffee, just like the name. Phenomenal pour-over options. Dont expect lunch, but pastries, gelato, and take-away sandwiches. New rewards program tied to your phone number.
The definition of the hip Ann Arbor coffee shop. *Superb* artisan coffees, very careful preparation of your order, and a clientele that appreciates both. Housed in a lovely airy storefront at a busy intersection - but with enough parking that even in car-unfriendly Ann Arbor you can successfully drive there without undue hassle. In my opinion the kind of hipstery one-off that really *needs* to exist!
I love it here. Coffee products are delicious and the staff are nice. The outdoor area has lots of covered seating and is at a main intersection so there is always stuff to look at. Internet is fast and reliable. A great spot to hang out for a morning coffee!
Delicious coffee, fun and helpful staff, wonderful atmosphere. We stopped by on our way through town but will definitely come back the next time were in the city.
Amazing coffees, teas, and desserts. A warm and cozy social place to caffeine your day away. Our barista Brandon was a helpful choice maker. Great place all the way around.
Took two months to go around AA trying espresso in nearly every coffee house that serves it. This is one of the top 4 in town for sure - high quality beans and seems like the roast is very fresh, and they are remarkably consistent. And its walking distance from me!! There used to be a Caribou coffee at the same location, then Peets none of them came even close to service and quality under the new management. Glad to have this place around the corner
Amazingly yummy coffee. Even the decaf espresso was tasty.
Just visited for the first time. I got an iced Americano with a splash of cream and wow it was amazing! Plus their cold cups are recyclable and strawless! I will definitely have to stop back in!
Right now its our favorite coffee house, I commute from Ohio to Michigan to work and I make it a habit to stop by at least once a week to.pick us both up some coffee. They use locally roasted beans and even have a house flavor from time to time.
Had the bacon waffles. Excellent. Nice and friendly staff.. coffee was good. The atmosphere was nice, a little bit loud and busy but thats normal for Ann Arbor. My only issue was it was difficult for me to get on the Wi-Fi, but I dont think that was their fault, my phone got on it fine, my computer could not.
