Fancy vibe with exquisite dishes. If you want fabulous food in an elegant atmosphere, this is the spot!
First off, the desserts here are outstanding. Ive eaten in, but Im writing about my take-out experience. I called at the last minute, trying to order a handful of desserts for an event the next day - so theyd need to be able to keep overnight. The challenge was that I really needed one of them to be a creme brulee. I talked it out with the gentleman over the phone and he was willing to work with me so that I could pick up what was basically a deconstructed creme brulee with the understanding that a) Id need to torch it myself and b) the presentation would not be something theyd ordinarily send out the door. Well, it worked out perfectly! It kept and traveled well, reconstructed nicely and, most importantly, was freaking delicious. (As were the cheesecakes and the chocolate dessert.)
Delicious dessert. The espresso martini needs work.
We went to Dolce Vita and not the chophouse. Once you let them know that you are going to Dolce Vita you are magically the least important customer. The pictures on Google for Dolce Vita are completely deceptive. Desserts do no look this fancy and the place in the basement is definitely not fancy. Its just good for a cigar lounge but that’s about it. It was my birthday and it really killed the mood!
Everything is excellent here. Ive fallen in love with the bananas foster bread pudding. The do it all right. One of our fav spots.
It was late at night, my then-girlfriend (and now wife) were stuffed. We had eaten and sampled our way across town for two days. But then we passed this place--a dessert restaurant. How could we resist? This was a wise decision. She ordered a chocolate cake with raspberry something or other. I ordered tiramisu. Both were incredibly decadent and well worth the stop. Do yourself a favor and eat a little less at dinner, so you can stop here afterward.
Always my go to dessert place for my birthday. The bananas fosters bread pudding and espresso martini are always a good way to end a night, and you always wanna go back for more.
We’re from out of town and took out seven year old daughter there for dessert. We were taken to the cigar lounge. When I told the hostess I didn’t want my child around the smoke, she was rude and very short with us.
My husband and I came here after dinner for something sweet and this place did not disappoint! I had the candy bar pie and he had the German chocolate cake - both were delicious. Beautiful presentation. The service was good and the atmosphere was cozy and romantic. I would definitely recommend coming here for a sweet treat!
You have to go here - desserts are out of this world!
Great desserts, great drinks. Open later for the night owls. The staff is very attentive and kind. There is also a great cigar lounge in the basement. The wife always gets the Spanish coffee. Try the bananas foster, its unbelievable. There are always weekly rotating different cookie flavors that are unbelievable.
This place is basically a cigar bar and it smells as such; if you cant stand the smell, you shouldnt come here. I actually hate the smell of cigars, but I come back here once in a while because I love this hidden gem.I love its decor, atmosphere, and quietness. Sometimes, our party is the only customers; then its nice and quiet and I can avoid the smell. My favorite is Spanish coffee. I am not a big fan of coffee liquor, but I keep ordering it because I love their fire performance (photo). You should try it at least once.
The desert was great! I ordered a chocolate decadence. I like to make fancy deserts at home and it was awesome to see different mousses and a ganache come together with a fudgey brownie. The textures were varied from fluffy to dense - and I loved it! I wish there was a more substantial fruit pairing (I think they used to serve this desert with a blackberry sorbet, but now it is just a berry coulis) because the flavors mixed so well. The atmosphere and the seating are also part of the experience. I came early and had my choice of couch, which had a nice view of the fireplace. The only thing that took away from the atmosphere was the manager was talking down to the wait staff right beside me for some time during my visit.
Great options for desserts, great service too. I think my favorite was the Creme brûlée. Not a cheap option though, but you should know that walking in. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating for our large group. We came celebrating a birthday and they lit candles on one of the desserts.
This is a great looking place, and the abiance is very well manicured. The Spanish coffee was a great treat, and the table side fire prep is always a show. However, the food quality doesnt meet the price. While the dishes look spectacular, they arent particularly tasty.Take for example the chocolate overload cake. The chocolate coating isnt tempered correctly, so its squishy, not crisp. The sorbet and middle layer were very tasty, but the top and bottom layers were not. The bottom later was very dense, and hard to eat.The creme brulee was actually burned on the top. Not a nice uniform carmelized later, but rather a splotchy thin layer with lots of burnt spots. The other chocolate cake was just bland- though the ice cream on the side was great. We thought our server was very nice, though were disappointed when we realized our 5 year old had been given an adult soup spoon, and had a really hard time eating until we realized the mistake. The servers response was, well we just use whatever we have lying around. The cigar smell while eating dessert wasnt nice, as we were seated just above the cigar lounge stairs. Not that I have a problem with cigars, but it really doesnt pair well with dessert. We had come in specifically for a sweet family treat on our anniversary. At around 50$ for dessert, we had anticipated a better experience.
Server Andrew in cigar lounge was superior! Thank you for the great experience :-)
Four of us stopped in after dinner for dessert. We had the tiramisu (below average - 2.5) and the chocolate decadence (4.5 stars due mainly to the sorbet). The tiramisu was bland and tasted like someone forgot to soak the ladyfingers in the expresso. Also, it was weird having it served in a glass. The chocolate was delicious, but the blackberry was absolutely decadent with a strong, sweet flavor - mouthwatering! The place doubles as a cigar bar and, though we did not partake, the women were upset by the lack of sufficient ventilation as they could smell the smoke clear on the other side of the room. However, I will say that the atmosphere is just what you want to relax after dinner - deep, co.fortable chairs with an intimate setting. I recommend the place, but dont order the tiramisu.
Delicious dessert! This place is always a must-hit for celebrations after dinner downtown. It is pricey, but is to be expected. Great drinks and even better dessert. Im particularly in love with the bananas foster.
This so amazing with food service and customers services I really enjoyed shopping here
Came here on a Friday night around 8 and we were told that it would be an hour wait. However, it turned out to be only 10 minutes! The setting is dim and swanky, with low coffee tables and nice stuffed chairs and couches. The service is also very friendly and helpful. We went for the mocha (mousse), chocolate melt cake, and an espresso martini to share. The mousse was light and fluffy, and it hid crispy chocolate and almond-toffee inside, which was a splendid combination. The chocolate melt cake had a big scoop of cookies and cream ice cream on top, and the cake itself was rich and moist. Both desserts were so good, it was hard to pin down a favorite. The espresso martini had a strong espresso flavor (which I liked, but some people would not). While we didnt go for any special occasion, this place would be a good location for birthdays or anniversaries or celebrations.
Love the treats at this La Dolce. The menu doesnt change up often, but the offering is always wonderfully tasty. A favorite for us after dinner anywhere downtown.
Boyfriend and I went here for his birthday this weekend. Was told it was an hour and 45 minutes wait and we were bumped to a twenty minute wait instead! The dessert was simply amazing. Light but filling, beautifully presented, and perfectly made. We got the vanilla bean creme brulee! I was very surprised at how affordable everything was! Chairs were comfy too while we waited for the cigar and dessert to arrive. Not sure how they do it, but the ventilation in the basement is great. You would hardly know it was a cigar bar from upstairs. Definitely planning on going back!
Really amazing desserts - a good spot to bring a significant other or a date! Lovely ambiance! Only wish they had more eggless options. If I could - I would have really given this place a 4.5 out of 5 and not just a 4! Worth checking out!
Great service. Good cocktails. I have never been to the Chop House restaurant upstairs, but Ive been to La Dolce Vita a few times. This is a great place if youre looking for a night out with a small group of friends. The mixed drinks are good and the atmosphere is relaxing. My friend claims that their dirty martinis are pretty good. Be warned that there will be people smoking cigars. Perhaps it could be you!The service is also very good. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive. There was one time that they even gave me a free drink simply because they didnt have something that I wanted at the bar. I dont know many places that are that appreciative of their customers.
Go here for late night high class dessert. Exceptional service and great food.
Fantastic desserts and a very cool cigar lounge. La Dolce Vita is a great place to end a night on the town or even just go for dessert or a cigar. The well ventilated cigar smoking area is separated by a glass wall and door, so no worries if you dont want your dessert ruined by cigar smoke. Fantastic old world ambiance coupled with decadent desserts and choice cigars make La Dolce Vita one of the best places to end your night out.
Delicious drinks. Great atmosphere. Great service. I will be coming back.
Went for only deserts. Chocolate melt cake was delicious and Vanilla bean cream bru lae was similar to any other restaurant. Quantity of chocolate melt will be good enough for one person whereas all other are good for two.
Great desserts! Get the affogato... You wont be disappointed!
Very romantic and cozy place. We went there for dessert and they had a good variety of choices which we chose 3 of them and all were delicious
Delicious desserts and a great swanky atmosphere thats very comfortable at the same time. Only downfall is that its a little expensive but its nice for a treat every once in a while.
Great cigar selection and knowledgeable wait staff. They also have a variety of dessert options.I would recommend this for any sort of celebratory outing with a small group.
Amazing.Such an eloquent, laid back atmosphere downstairs in the cigar lounge.
Excellent service, however, curdled custard in the creme brulee.Update: stomach is all messed up, likely due to the turned custard.
Amazing desserts, great lounge for smoking. Cocktails good. Serving staff was great (thx stephanie)
This place surprised me with the quality of the service and the food. The waitstaff was very helpful, and the happy hour drink specials are totally worth going downtown in the early evening.
Awesome everything, our server (Elaine?) Was the best (short hair brunette).
The Creme Brulee is worth the stop.
The desserts were really good and the atmosphere is cozy but the service was seriously packing in my opinion.
Ive never had a drink here, but the desserts.... theyre so good. Too good. I would rather go to La Dolce Vita and than Disney World (the cost is far more reasonable than Disney as well, and there tends to be less crying children. In fact the only crying is from tears of joy).La Dolce Vita might have changed my life, and Im not afraid to admit it. Im going there for my birthday in a few weeks and I think about it every day. Its a crime to be in Ann Arbor and not experience their desserts at least once.
We really enjoyed the atmosphere! I also had an afogatu which I liked.
My husband loves the cigar bar♡
I always have a good experience when at Dolce Vita. They have delicious desserts for reasonable prices!
The atmosphere is great, it has a nice ambience and great for small groups or dates. The dessert is fantastic, Ive never tasted creme brûlée as good as that. The other cakes, tiramisu, chocolate melt cake and german chocolate cake were also so delicious. My friends and I dont drink alcohol so they were very accommodating in preparing us desserts without alcohol and even informing us beforehand about desserts that do contain them. Love this place!
Great drinks and atmosphere.
Atmosphere is cool, creme brulee is great, ....but the cigars are over priced ( obvious ), so bring your own and the Negroni is very sweet and catered to the pseudo-intellectuals and pretentious people which make up the majority of people that gather here. So, all in all, its a cool place to have a cigar, but Im a firm-believer that a Negroni is a make-or-break drink for a bar/lounge. Just my two cents...
A great place for a romantic night out!
Nice place if you enjoy late night dessert
Cigars are so good here, omg
Great bar service and happy hour cocktails
My dessert was a little on the sweet side, but I loved it nonetheless.
Very expensive but nice overall service. Even on busy nights.
Vanilla flavored creme brulee was by far the best dessert on the menu!!
Best cream brulee
Looked up the time then headed over after work. Says they are open until midnight. I got there at about 11:15. Went to go in and the doors were locked and the staff was all just hanging at the bar!
Nice desserts. A bit expensive.
Will definitely be back.
Great place for breakfast
So good.
So good.
Great desserts and cocktails
Amazing desserts!
Great desserts!
Desert and cigar was on point.
Best cigar bar in Ann Arbor
Great desserts!
In the evening without prior reservation it is very difficult to find a place. Excellent Italian desserts, it is quite possible to take one for 2 people, the size allows.
