Best place in the Bay Area to buy meats and vegetables. Prices are equal to the regular grocery store but much fresher. The quality cant be beat.All of the staff and all departments care about their customers. Encinal market will always be my go-to place.

What a wonderful market! We have been visiting Alameda for the past 3 weeks and have been fortunate that Encinal Market is only a block away. The butcher section is fantastic. Great selection. Meat is high quality and the butchers are friendly and knowledgeable. It feels like a small town market. There is a nice enough selection of wine. Available stock can be a challenge. Of course, it is overall pricier than other local super markets, but still comparably reasonable for a small market and some things are less expensive. I paid only $4.99 one day for ground beef.

A great local grocery, bakery and butcher shop in the neighbourhood of Alameda located on Encinal St. corner High St. Conveniently located in the community, this grocery store is not crowded but with limited parking lots and quite pricey. The store is not that really huge but they have great variety of stuffs from fresh meats and produce, bakery and spirits and wine and a lot more! The displays are neat and clean. They have local BBQ on weekends and there’s s cozy Japanese restaurant called Bluefin on the corner serving delightful foods. The bakery has also great freshly bake cookies, cakes and breads. I like their cheese section, they got almost all the best cheeses of the world! Lots of wine selection as well. This grocery store is just like a convenient store, grab only what you really need, the prices are higher than what you can get from other grocery stores in the community.

I have shopped at Encinal Market for many years, and this afternoon, I was reminded why. I was at the checkout counter when a woman who later told me she was 93 years old, said she had locked her keys in her car, and asked if I could give her a ride to her home, not far away. I said I would be happy to, but I had walked over. The cashier, Arturo, promptly volunteered his car, so that I could drive her home to get her extra key. Im sure he had seen us both in the store before, but there was no reason other than his generous nature for him to volunteer the use of his car to two ladies who might have run it into a tree or worse. Fortunately, I didnt do that and Arturo has his car back, along with the infinite thanks of two women who will do all of their shopping at Encinal Market from now on.

Came into Encinal Market and visited the Joe Scalise Jr. & Sons Full Service Butcher Shop at the recommendation of so many of you Alameda Peeps.I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to feed two for Thanksgiving, we knew we wanted beef. I really wanted a prime rib, but for two people it was ridiculous! Or so I thought... the two young men helping me said they almost never have it, but they had a cut of prime rib for 2. What a seemingly fated and wonderful surprise! These very helpful gentlemen suggested their rub, which I happily accepted. They even made sure I had proper instructions for cooking it.Huge Thank You, Alameda Peeps!🍁Happy Thanksgiving🍁

We dont live very far away so we really appreciate the quality of the items here. Great selection of craft beers and they have a fantastic meat market. Nice to have a neighborhood grocery store.

I love this store! Not too big, not too small, excellent butcher shop. Specialty local dairy and bakery products. Interesting selection of imported British and Asian foods. Pricing along the lines of andronicos or whole foods. Friendly staff. Not the zoo youll find at Trader Joes or Safeway. You are very likely to run into someone from the East End neighborhood.

Why do I shop here? 2-inch pork chops, regular-sized onions, an amazing selection of beer from around the world, the best brand of hot dogs Ive tasted. If Im lucky they have Jelly Babies from England. Tinned haggis for my friend in Texas. Pretzel buns for my dogs.The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the butcher shop is the best.

What an awesome find! Loved this retro styled market. The selection was abundant, the food choices were unique and original...I found many things there Ive never seen anywhere, and the produce was all very fresh. I bought some nectarines and they were perfectly sweet and delicious. All the staff were exceptionally nice as well! Really great market!

The butchers are THE butchers. If I need a nice cut of meat for a dinner party this is the Market I visit. I also go here for those quick pick up a few things. Its not as crowded and has a really good selection of the most important items: meat, beer, ice cream, produce, cheese (No specific order). A lot of organic and locally sourced options. My kids love that they usually have fruit samples. Great Upper End Neighborhood Market.

A fantastic grocery store in more of the European market tradition. Great fruit and vegetable selection and freshness. Meats from butchers who care and will really help with recommendations. They also do BBQ many days, right out front. Really great selection of beer, wine, and cheese; plus a lot of special “little stuff”; for example Marmite and orzo. And they’re all friendly and helpful. A neighborhood treasure.

Awesome and friendly staff extremely helpful everything you need to find you can find in a pinch. The meat market is probably one of the best Ive ever been to and I would recommend this place highly.

Not the most cost effective but nice to go to this local market and pick up a few things while we go on our afternoon /evening walks. Location is very convenient and the market is stocked with certain items that you might not find at every grocery store. Wished they carried better produce and more organic options.

I love this market. The meat and deli counter is THE best in Alameda. The produce is great with good variety and is turned over frequently. Besides the regular grocery store things, you can get very specialized stuff like marmite,craft beers, locally made sausages,ravioli etc. I am so happy I started shopping here!

This is a GREAT food market, with a fantastic selection of meat, produce and dry goods. They have many specialized cuts and marinade meats. We get the fajita marinade chicken and beef for the most delicious home meals.

Encinal Market might just have the best craft/European bear selection in all of Alameda. I love this Market and we try to get the bulk of our grocery needs here even if it costs a little bit more than the corporate grocery chains on the Island. The butchers are great. Quality meat and really helpful/friendly. Fantastic fresh salsa and crispy taqueria style chips. Amazing cheese selection.

Unassuming market that embodies everything I love about living on Alameda. The product selection is unique but also covers the majority of your normal basics. This isnt a chain store so the overall quality seems higher and youll find gourmet options for most things. Just to name a few their ice cream, cheese, and deli standout as making a visit here worthwhile. Then theres their craft beer, if you love craft beer, this is the place on Alameda youve been searching for. Incredibly well stocked beer section with limited releases from Founders, Stone, Firestone, and a ton of brewers Ive never heard of. This market is one of Alamedas true gems.

Good grocery store. Nothing special. You can find the same stuff in Traders Joes or Whole Foods for the comparable price. Impressive meat and wine departments, however, bit pricey. Parking is free but not spacious.

Todays experience was great as always. Friendly staff, excellent selection. I purchased ground sirloin, only six dollars a pound thats actually a great deal. They have brioche buns and a gallon carboy of unfiltered organic apple juice for some home brew cider. Oh my the check stand carmels. Great place check it out.

Great local grocery store. I grew up in the neighborhoord and i used to always come for there HUGE candy selection as a kid. I since movedawayand now i am back visiting family. This little store has such great ascetic.

If youre looking for less lines and a smaller scale store with an amazing (seriously - amazing!) beer selection, Encinal Market should be on your list.No its not Safeway prices, but theyre a truly local operation and they have a good mix of standard grocery items and green / vegan / etc options.

One of the best markets in the east bay. If you need a butcher who knows there stuff and has all the right cuts, go here. They also carry all the good Molinari salami. The local Semofredis bread is well represented here and the cheese case is better then your average supermarket.

Convenience meets quality in a neighborhood grocer. Scalise butcher / deli has some prepared food. Look out for their BBQ offerings during warm weather. Market carries conventional and organic produce.

This is my go-to store for artisan cheese, bread and cookies. I love the wine selection and always find a great rose or sauvignon blanc. The meat selection is the bomb.

I love the market and the shops. However, parking is an issue and if waiting for someone to back out whom is in their car with the engine running I have come across some pretty ugly seniors who get out of their car to honk or call you names because their done shopping and dont want to wait to get out.
