TLDR: Very high prices, low quality merchandise, and extremely bad customer service.Theyre more concerned with getting you to buy stuff *from them*, rather than finding you the *correct* tool/part for the job. An honest hardware store will admit when they dont have the correct item, and the best stores will then advise you on where to get it.They carry the absolute worst quality, no-name brands of just about everything. (For example, one item was entirely in French, there was no way to figure out if it was the correct part.) Thats one very good reason never to shop there. Unless you want to overpay for everything and then have it break after a short time.My final horrible experience that convinced me never to come back was when I needed a specific plumbing part. The plumbing expert told me to buy the wrong items, when I needed only *one* part. I showed him pictures as evidence that he was incorrect, and his egotistical response was Ive been doing this 20 years. Yeah, well, youre either really bad at your job, or youre just an unethical manipulative salesman... or most likely youre both.Its clear that theyre overly obsessed with profit. They dont care the slightest bit about doing right by the customer.SUGGESTIONS:- Dont waste your time or money at Barrows Hardware.- Go to Rockys Ace hardware for general hardware needs.- Go to F.W. Webb for *all* plumbing needs, and more.- I have yet to find the best store for electrical needs. I will update review when I discover the electricians electrical store.

Arrived 10 minutes before closing. They were very accommodating. I was there to fill a propane tank so it wasnt so simple as running in the store for an item. You would have thought they just opened. FYI best price for propane tank refill.

This is a surprisingly complete independent hardware store. Found exactly what I was looking for and a few extra things as well! Their prices are pretty darn good as well. Ive been coming here over the years and their latest expansion has really made it possible for them to have quite the selection. If Im looking for a specialized plumbing or gas fitting parts youre more likely to find it here than any of the big box stores!

Went in this morning to buy ice melt. Display outside of store said $6.93 / gave clerk $20 and got back pocket change and 3 bills. No receipt. Make sure you count your change when shopping here. The bills were ones when i checked later. at least the ice melt works

I moved into this area from Tatnuck on July 14th. My wife and I now own our first house, and because of where Barrows falls on our commutes, it has become the hardware store of choice.I am consistently greeted warmly, and my questions have always been answered promptly. I think the best part, though, is the warm sense of comradery you feel and are kind of welcomed in to as a customer. For example, if you see two chummy co-workers laughing, they dont break up the conversation awkwardly when you show up, nor do they ignore you.Instead, its almost like a few friends turn and - without skipping a beat - both offer assistance. Its engaging and personal. It feels like what a hardware store would have been like before big-box stores happened.Anyhow, on a practical side they do a great job of maintaining and managing a rough parking lot area and traffic, and their prices are solidly where they should be.Recent purchases include cleaning agents, special cutting tools, and loads of advice and questions answered on projects.Highly recommend.

I went to Barrows during covid-19 about a month ago. My brother and I went there looking for a screw and these workers were spying on us. Mind you, my brother and I are not sketchy or thieves at all! We were literally shopping like normal people (We found what we were looking for) and every staff in the store was looking at us. They frequently came over asking if we needed help and clearly we didnt. And no I will not say that their customer service could just be that good but no, these workers were so tense and hostile towards me and my brother. Barrows is a nice looking store but Id rather go to a different hardware store if customer service and management is that sketch.

Anything I need, I go here. They have a great selection and the staff is very helpful. The new expansion is very impressive. They often have great prices on items I would not expect, like fans, flashlights, knives and mace. They have mace! For a city woman, its a need. I love going here, always my first stop.

This place is very clean and the staff are nice. The selection of items is wide, but not deep, so if you need something quite particular I would suggest going else where. I was impressed that they carried Festool brand power tools, these are quite high end. I would compare this place to an Ace Hardware, but bigger, cleaner, better organized, but friendly and compact enough so that you dont walk a 1/4 mile to find something in aisle 83.

Best service anywhere. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Small by todays mega store standards but pretty competitive pricing and fairly well stocked. Thing I like most is that theres one guy thats worked there forever - one of the owners? - wholl find a solution to just about whatever it is you need even from the vaguest description. Theyve recently renovated, expanded and increased parking but they havent forgotten who they are. They all seem to genuinely enjoy working there. Its refreshing that we have a place where the customer still matters. check it out. Youll see what I mean and be better for the experience.

Best big little hardware store in the City. We always try to visit locally owned small businesses and have been coming here since I was a kid with my dad. The expansion has allowed them to provide more offerings which is great. If you dont like wandering around those big box stores for 20 minutes before you can find what you are looking for this is the place. The prices are comparable and with helpful staff it is a pleasure to shop here.

I hadnt heard of this place until a month ago. Its the only hardware store Ive been to that I though had good customer service. Its very clean and organized inside as well.

Ive shopped here regularly for 37 years. They have great prices, selection, and personal service. This store is voted # 1 year after year in Worcester Mag. for a reason. Theyve been around for three generations, so theyre doing something right. You can get in and out fast, compared to a big box store.

Husband bought deck stain 3 gallons. they were all different colors we wanted brown but two were green. had a friend bring them back got more. they re- tinted and said they would be close in color. they were not. he lost most of the days work and now I have a deck with two different shades on itmanager gave money back but he lost the days time in labor. I would not recommend Barrows for paint.
