As regulars over the years, weve always been pleased with their ever-rotating menu items, impressed with their ability to elevate the potential of all their ingredients for anything they push on said menu, and serve it up with the friendliest of staff with the most down to earth style. Its one of the few places in town where I can always settle on if Im not sure where to eat between friends and family visiting town.Apart from quality menu items, one of the things I feel differentiates Krankies from every other restaurant is their biscuits! Theyre so fluffy with a buttery taste throughout, where other biscuits always taste mostly crusty to me.Lastly, they serve a great selection of drinks from coffee to kombucha and their vanilla bourbon latte actually has bourbon in it! My husband loves it and orders it almost every time we stop in.There are areas to eat inside, on their open-air patio where you can watch the cars drive by, and outdoor seating where you can bring your furbabies with you. Ill gladly continue to visit often.

Big fan both prior and post pandemic. Good food, great biscuits, generally a good time. I do miss the seating options they had prior to pandemic snd the more formal/table service brunch on the weekend, but these are strange times and I’m glad to see they’re sticking around, so I’m happy to have that sacrifice. Hoping they can go back to “normal” soon. Always a go to whenever I’m in town.Only complaint is the parking lot, but not sure how much control they have over that.

We had a great experience at Krankies this weekend! We went around 9 on Sunday morning and there was no line. The cashier did let us know that the food might be a little while because they had just had a rush but we decided to order anyway and I’m so glad we did! I’d say we waited about 5 mins for our coffee and 10-15 for our food. We tried the Nashville hot biscuit, bacon Egg and cheese, and the jam biscuit.First - the coffee was good. My cappuccino was not super strong but the flavor was good. Nitro iced coffee was really good. The food was awesome. We loved it and I would definitely eat here again. The atmosphere was what I most enjoyed. A relaxed coffee shop feel where you didn’t have to wait on a server -I liked the fact that it’s counter service. Also it felt big inside like we weren’t sitting on top of the people next to us.It does get busy though! When we left around 9:45 the line was out the door.

I love Krankies, as does anyone else who was in high school in Winston-Salem in the 2000s, since it was the slightly-illicit dive where the high school ska bands played and how could you not love that. It was like the slightly-weird-but-still-cool older friend you had that hung out with you when they were home from college. Its not that anymore. It used to be a sketchy cafe with a bar and a stage. Then the stage went away and it was more of a restaurant for a while. Now its back to being more of a counter-service place but it still cant decide if its a cafe or a restaurant or what.I still love it (hence the 5 stars) because its Krankies and how could I not, but I wish it was a better cafe (better Internet please! stay open later! take your parking lot back over!) and of course I wish it was still a quirky live-music venue, and now I wish it was a better bar too. Ah well. Its like the place is growing up alongside my generation and I guess were both not too sure who we are right now.

Krankies is a really cool spot tucked and hidden across from the Forsyth County General Services building on the corner of Patterson Ave and 3rd St E in Downtown Winston Salem. This is a place you can bring your whole crew or just yourself for quick and easy meal and morning pick me up. Parking is pay by the hour its $1 an hour, card or cash pay by the stall number at the pay kiosk or with Parkmobile app 41200. Its tricky when they are busy which seems to be often so plan for that. I had no issue with the self serve functions they now offer due to COVID. Its just the way we have to operate so it didnt bother me.I was particularly fond of the decor and this biscuit and sausage gravy. Biscuits fresh and the gravy is soooooooo good. I had my meal with a Root Beer and sat outside. While the weather wasnt quite sunny when I visited, it was still nice to sit outside. You place your order here and then wait for your order to be called by name. They have social distancing in place here and staff wear masks. Hand sanitizer is available at the door and limited indoor seating is available. Outdoor seating is offered. They dont offer any frozen or blended beverages but have just about anything else. I was still amazed at the quality, decor and general ambiance of Krankies and I will definitely be bringing friends and family back. Thanks yall!

I really want to give Krankies a higher rating than three stars. I had heard really great reviews about these breakfast biscuits and wanted to give it a try! I placed an online order for fries and two biscuits: a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit and a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit. The order said it would be ready 30 minutes after placing the order, but the order wasnt ready until 50 minutes later. I was surprised, because there were only a handful of people waiting and no obvious reason for the delay. The biscuit sandwich was excellent, but not worth the wait. I do appreciate that masks were required inside, but the food pickup could be improved. It would be super helpful if you added a large Pickup sign to make it obvious for people popping in to pick up food. Maybe you could even consider moving it toward the front entrance or have a tent outside for easy, safe pickup for all!

First I just want to say I love Krankies as a restaurant. Their food is fantastic. However, do not use their website to place takeout orders. It’s unfortunately not secure. I ordered food yesterday and ended up getting my information stolen.I’ve lost over $150. I know this is due to Krankies’ website since I havnt used that particular credit card in weeks, so it couldn’t have been another website.I hope they do a better job of securing their website in the future. No one should have to worry about losing money while trying to order breakfast.

Beware the Vietnamese coffee - it is really really strong… as a person who sometimes drink coffee, I ordered this without knowing it could keep me up for 24 hours+, which has not happened to me before. I looked it up online and found out it has three times caffeine as expresso. I think Krankies should tell customers that information (like, label it on the menu). This is way too strong for normal people! 😭😭😭 Don’t order this unless you want sleep deprivation and anxiety.

Food, ambience, available seating, and decor was lovely! But waited 40+ minutes for my food, just for it to have been sitting in the kitchen and nobody had brought it out. This was after the morning rush. Also, cooking staff and baristas were NOT wearing masks. And were yelling and talking OVER PEOPLE’S DRINKS. The ONLY reason it has 3 stars is because the food was really good. But they obviously have no concern for people’s time or health in the middle of a pandemic.

I put off visiting Krankies for years in part because it seemed to bear the marks of being a victim of its own success: a local favorite whose popularity invites expectations that it cannot hope to meet. When I finally did get around to giving Krankies a try, I expected to deem it overrated and go back to avoiding it. Fortunately, my skepticism proved to be misplaced.Krankies is housed in a good-sized space that has both an industrial mien (overhead ducts and brick walls) and enough artwork to offer a contrast to it. Those who treat coffee shops as offices away from home may find Krankies distractingly boisterous, but for most other patrons, its not too loud.My first visit was on a Saturday morning, which gave me a chance to try the brunch menu. From egg dishes (huevos rancheros and benedicts) to sweet breads (French toast) to biscuits to lunch sandwiches (a cheesy western burger and a BLT), nearly everything looked good. I ultimately settled on a chicken biscuit with gravy while my wife went with the weekend BLT on sourdough.Though Krankies was moderately busy, our food came relatively quickly, and we were not let down. The chicken was generously sized, thickly battered, and tender, and while the biscuit wasnt quite to Rise levels, it was still satisfyingly buttery. The BLTs bacon was just crisp enough, and the avocado and egg gave the sandwich some nice textural variety. The coffee was a hit as well: my vanilla latte was smooth without any bitterness. At first glance, Krankies prices may seem a bit high: $7 for the chicken biscuit and $8 for the BLT, neither of which came with a side. However, both sandwiches were quite filling, and the pricing is fair for the quality of the food. Service was also on-point, as our server, an affable future costume designer, provided helpful recommendations. Before I checked it out firsthand, I expected Krankies to be a mediocre, hipster infested, and grossly overpriced. Instead, I found myself surprised by how much I liked it, and I would not hesitate to return.NOTE: The narrow parking lot can be a pain, but there is plenty of additional parking in walking distance.

I understand that with the whole pandemic they had to change their hours. But I don’t like the change where you have to place your order on their website. I placed my order an hour in advance and tried to provide as much detail in the space provided and they still mixed up my order. When I’m sure this issue could have been avoided with a simple phone order. I had to still wait longer. Their website is not exactly user friendly. I kind of miss the old info coffeeshop vibe with live music and space for studying or reading- that got replaced with a more sit down feel, but the food is incredible, especially the chicken biscuit. Baristas are great, in house roasted coffee is pretty good with a somewhat unique flavor profile which showcases the work of the roaster more than the grower. Solid Winston Salem staple worth checking out.Currently due to Covid theyre only open Fri-Sun until mid afternoon and are offering take out and outdoor seating only- outdoor space is limited. I suggest ordering online and taking your order around the block to enjoy at Bailey Park for more space and free parking. The gravel lot in front of the shop is ticket and tow, but I usually dont worry about it if I quickly run in to grab a takeout order.
