I have used this store several times in the past several years, always sending gift baskets of Iowa products to friends of mine out of state. They have a nice web site, great photos and reasonable prices. I always called in to ask questions. I was impressed by all of the various things they sell that come from or are made in Iowa, and I have lived here all my life!! The people who helped me (Kelly, the owner did once I believe) over the phone were also very polite, knowledgable about their products and happy to help me. I liked the fact that they were located in Historic Valley Junction also in West Des Moines.The baskets were put together skillfully, (similar to flower arranging!) and I got guidance on what would fit well and what might not. 1-2 things that were toy like items (an Iowa Pig bank for example) and larger I had to send in separate boxes, but it was fine. The nice thing is if you order early enough (ESPECIALLY at Christmas time) you can tell them when you want the basket or whatever you are buying to be delivered, and they come as close as they can. They also took photos for me of what the baskets I was sending looked like! Every person who got a basket from me was thrilled. They had heard of some products, since they are sold nationally. I really got rave reiviews from everyone who I sent to, and I would give a rave review to this business as well. I am glad to see a business helping to support the Iowa economy in such a creative and tasteful way. I am including a photo of a basket almost identical to a smaller one I sent to someone.

We wanted to gift our Alabama neighbors some Iowa products, so naturally, thought of Heart of Iowa Market Place. Meghan was so easy to work with, answered all my questions about the products, shelf life of the sausage, etc. We needed gluten-free items and Meghan did an excellent job of putting our gift box together. Its a Christmas gift, so were excited about our neighbors receiving it then. Thanks, Heart of Iowa Market Place! We can highly recommend your store.

Cute store with awesome gift ideas. When we visited 5th street we went in just about every store and spent the most time in the Heart of Iowa and the store right next door called Bings. Highly recommend you shop both of these stores when in West Des Moines.Great find: Look for a jigsaw puzzle called Iowa Spirit by PuzzleTwist within the Heart of Iowa store! ;-)

Wonderful gift shop with all sorts of trinkets! I went in there searching for a magnet and not only did I find one, but I also fell in love with their chocolate sea salt caramel fudge. I have loved Iowa all my life. There is no place on the planet I would rather live, so how could I not love this store. It is not a huge storefront as far as square footage is concerned, but each square foot is filled with everything that really does speak to the Heart of Iowa: gifts, food items, and novelties all Iowa made.Visitors to Iowa need to put Heart of Iowa on their list and locals need to take guests there.

Great selection of gifts. They had 4 different products for sampling, which is always a good way to shop! The lady working there was helpful and courteous. Samples of fudge were delightful.

Really enjoyed this little shop. We were looking for gifts from Iowa to give visitors from New York. They had a wonderful assortment at very reasonable prices. The salesperson was extremely friendly and helpful. We will head back again for future company.
