We had an amazing experience with Matt. Finally got over a lot of excess bills that were precluding us (mainly ME!) from buying a new bike. I lost my old hybrid in a prior move.Matt was amazing. Very attentive, knowledgable, and pretty much answered all of my questions. Then, I had forgotten to buy a storage sleeve to attach to my bike, so I returned to the store with my wife(who hasnt learned to ride a bike yet). Before we knew it, he had her on a bike, and she was learning to balance.He put her bike on hold but we didnt get by there to buy it until last night.Thanks, Matt and Bike World!!

Nate was absolutely fantastic. My wife and I are so impressed with him and how he helped us. We are basically completely new to biking- it’s been many years since we have been out. Bike World Iowas people are genuine and care about the biking experience. The stores have a workable range of products (its too easy to leave with more than we came in for), and they special order whatever we want outside of normal stock. We also depend on their mechanics to keep us rolling in good shape, their collective experience is solid.

Had a very good experience here buying a new bike for the 2021 season. Andy helped me out, really knew what he was talking about abs helped me make a decision. Specifically, Jason took extra time to make sure I had the shoes/cleats I needed and set me up on a trainer to practice clipping in and out of my pedals before going live outside.

Very rarely do I like to give perfect ratings; because as consumers we see them as red flags. But when credit is due, it’s due.I called Mr.Andy 13 minutes before close and stayed on the phone with via Bluetooth as we went over what I wanted; and gave him the two options; of which he ran down one. Made it there, held him well after closing; as I had to of course test drive these things.He then had his service guys get it ready for delivery, and if that wasn’t enough, I managed to pester him into giving me a sweet discount on some gear I needed, and also pointed out a few things I missed while doing research.The thing that impressed me the most; which I did test him slightly, he was willing to let me walk away if he didn’t have exactly what I wanted, rather than try to convince me like others did that I needed a medium instead of a large.I also got tossed a few freebies; but I’ll let you found out what they are after you get your bike.

Please read all the way to the end.2016: I stopped in looking for a fork for my current bike. I ended up speaking with Joe Newendorp. I want to call him out for being so awesome! We struck out finding a fork, but I was able to talk with Joe about bikes, and my current goal. He was super knowledgeable and great to talk with.The above regarding Joe is still true today, but let me add some more.2017 - ( I forget the exact month), I took it into BW for their Tuneup Plus service. They fixed the things that needed it, including what we identified when we dropped it off. When I got it back, it looked better than new. I threw it on the trainer and rode it until going back outside in April. It was just super nice having a clean, tuned up bike under me on the trainer.2018 - I dropped it off mid-November for another Tuneup Plus service. We talked about the things to specifically check, etc. A few days later, they called and said they noticed cracks in the rear wheel. This was excellent. Better to fix this now, then have it fail while Im riding. That took at least a week to get the rim, and for them to rebuild the wheel. Then I received a call saying that he thinks he forgot to call me to let me know it was complete. That was a Tuesday. I stopped on Friday to pick it up. Somebody noticed something that wasnt quite right with the front brake. Ok, fine, I guess. I chatted with Joe and looked a line of bikes that Im considering. Well, then it was done, and I thought I would double check the front tube was changed before I went home and threw it on the trainer. It wasnt. Apparently, the rear tube was changed. So, I guess they never even checked the pressure in the tire since you couldnt add air to it, which is why I wanted it changed. They did do the front tube for free, so kudos for doing the right thing there.So, at this point, I pay and wheel it out to the car, only to notice the whole bike is as dirty as when I dropped it off. This was after work, and I just wanted to get it home and on the trainer. However, these things are nagging at me. I gave up on a competitor of theirs for screwing up a simple spoke change. Now they didnt even wash the bike (which they specifically spell out in the service listing, nor did they check the pressure (or inflate), which is another thing specifically spelled out). So, what else wasnt really done that was supposed to be? I have to question EVERYTHING now. Will I find the wheel out of true? Were the spokes tensioned? Were the brake pads even replaced? Was anything actually gone through like it was supposed to be? I mean the chain was obviously cleaned and lubed, but thats about all I could easily verify on the spot.Hell, I just looked and they didnt bother putting the valve stem cover back on the rear wheel. I dont know the persons name in the shop who did the work last year ( and I talked to a fair amount over the last 1 1/2 years), but I havent seen him in there this year. So, I guess he was key to getting good service in the shop then?I like BW, but I like it a lot less now. My experiences with the shop are definitely spotty. I dont know how theyll deal on a new bike purchase, but in any case be wary of the shop at this location.UPDATE:Im happy to report that they do take such things as my 2018 experience seriously. Joe went above and beyond to turn this bad experience around and make things right. Bravo!

The customer service is amazing: all the associates are knowledgeable and helpful without ever getting pushy or trying to up-sell you on something you dont need. Unlike some other places in town, I also appreciate how they genuinely value you as a customer even if you arent dropping several thousand dollars on bikes/gear. They carry quality product lines that are all priced well. Bonus that they are right off the bike trail!

Youre my neighborhood bike experts. You have a variety of bikes for my family and knowledgeable staff members to help me when I dont know what I need. Staff takes the time to ask questions about how I plan to use the bike (surface conditions, casual biking, etc) so that I get a bike thats fitted to my needs. Then, if I need it serviced, the team knows what theyre doing to fix any problems. And, the pricing for bike servicing is very reasonable.

I have a real loyalty to Bike World. Keith has always been super helpful and always takes the time even when he is busy. I do feel like he is focused on helping me be a better rider and have the right equipment and the right fit/setup as possible. I have shopped around at other bike shops but always came back for the staff - I can get a bike anywhere. Other people dont have the staff and I want to support a locally owned business.

I walked into Bike World for the first time when my husband decided to get me a bike for my birthday. I hadnt ridden since childhood, but was excited to give it a try again. I was helped by a gentleman who had the absolutely best smile ever, and he helped me find the perfect bike. A year later we came back for our kids first bikes. The same wonderful man helped us get them ready to safely ride, making sure the bikes fit perfectly for them so they could be successful. Now my husband and dad are thinking it sure would be nice to be able to ride... and guess where we will go? They have helped me learn how to maintain my bike and make sure Im ready to safely take on a new challenge. You dont have to be an avid rider to be treated well here. If you are like me and just wanting to increase the ways you can get moving and try to improve your health they will help you with no judgements. They help people with mobility issues and various health concerns get the equipment they need to be able to enjoy getting outside. Ive loved every interaction Ive had in this store. My kids love visiting and especially love the hardware store cat that comes in to say hi. Such a wonderful place to have so close to home!

Every interaction Ive had with the older, bald individual that works at this location has been awful. Hes never helpful, and not very knowledgeable. I ultimately stopped going to Bike World for over a year because of his sub par customer service. He gets one star.A month or so ago, they had a part I needed in stock so I bit the bullet and decided to try them again. A different individual was helped me that time and the experience was night and day different. Very positive, very helpful. Same goes for their mechanics. Five stars.Recently, I had to go back to pick up another part ... the bald guy was there and was as unhelpful as ever. Is he always there?! It would be great to know the days hes not scheduled to work so I can plan my trips accordingly.Words of wisdom: If an older, bald gentlemen asks if you need any help, just say no. Work with someone else.

Bike World had the two bike brands I was interested in, Trek and Giant, and more than enough inventory. The salesperson who I worked with, Kelly, was very informative and helpful. When I go back for something else I will request her and I recommend her to others.

We went in on mother’s day looking for a specific bike for my wife. It did not appear that they carried that bike in the store but Biff was able to track one down for us that fit exactly what we were looking for. Bike World is great. They help on many levels. Just general help is great. The warehouse and other sales are great. Then there is going the extra mile. I have one salesman that personally helps me find the right bike, tires, and equipment to go along with it. That will keep me coming back

Almost everything. The ride is more easier than any bike I have ever ridden. Its a very well built bike. The only problems I have encountered are: The tires are a bit stiff so I can feel ever bump. The frame is too thick in one place and too thin in the other so I cant hang my lock. Other than that I am very satisfied.

Good experience with all of our family bikes over the years. Great service when repairs and tunes ups are needed as well. Highly recommend.

I went to bike world west des moines for a rather expensive solution to bike with my special needs daughter. They gave me some alternative ideas. I did some researches and came back to get their Trek Mountain Train. The staff there were very friendly and helpful. They spent over 2 hours to set it up on my bike just perfectly. They are very patient and knowledgeable. I cannot be happier!The seat had to be raised higher. After one day of riding, I decided to get another smaller bike to mount this Trek Mountain Train. The staff talked me out of it, instead they offered to make it work better on my own bike. I know they are very good with bikes. So if they tell me smaller bike wont work better, I trust them. I also appreciate their honesty, they did not just sell me more bikes. They really want what is the best for their customers. I trust these guys and this store.

Id just like to take a moment to thank Bike World on being a standout company. Specifically, both Kelly and Joe have been a pleasure to work with. They both went above and beyond to not only get me into the right bike, but to help me understand that bike AND stood behind the quality of it as well. A little background, I wanted to buy my dream bike and knowing that I was going to be spending at least $3,000 on the bike itself I was fairly picky. Both Kelly and Joe took the time to walk me through the options on the available bikes, the gearing setups and the gear in general that I would need to take on both Road and Gravel biking with my new ride. We landed on the Checkpoint SL5, after which they helped to professional fit me on the bike and sent me on my way.Fast forward 2 months and I am in LOVE with the bike, but Ive been having issues. It was having a double shift issue on the crank set/front gears, paint seems to be flaking off and I was getting a squeak from the front end that wouldnt go away. *DISCLAIMER* I LOVE this bike and some of these things are bound to happen when hauling 20+ MPH down gravel roads, just not this much and so early on in its life. Being that this was my dream bike, I was a bit upset and voiced that. I felt bad, but after spending that kind of money on a bike and all of the gear Ive purchased since then I wasnt happy.The Bike World team had a decision to make here, they could ignore my repeated concerns or they could do something about it. As this is a 5 star review, I think you know what they did :) They stood up for me as the customer and helped to square things away with my bike. Not only that, but they did so in a very genuine way; it wasnt just about the product to them, it was about the people and the joy of biking.I will forever be a Bike World fan and will continue to give them my support and business, and you should too!
