I was worried the initial dress I had picked before covid wasn’t the right one and ran into Modern Trousseau as I wanted a Grace Kelly custom dress and was told they could do that. Ended up deciding that day to go with them custom “making” me a dress. I had second thoughts that evening but was told when I called first thing the next morning that it would be too late to cancel. The dress arrived and was poorly made for me as their shop is in Connecticut and—in order to get the best fit—you really need to go to their main location. It is a good concept but the product is not truly bespoke or couture. After getting several opinions from family and friends, I did not/could not wear the dress. Lesson learned. They may be ok for the styles they already have but if you want bespoke, this is not the shop for you.

Modern Trousseau was our first salon appointment and it set the bar high. After we went to another a salon, we realized how helpful it was to have Sabrina ask the right questions and be perceptive enough to guide us towards decisions. As someone who can be indecisive and who loves dresses to begin with, I knew that I would have a hard time deciding, but we ended up going back to Modern Trousseau the same day and putting two dresses together to make the perfect dress. I am so excited!!! They have a lot of classic designs if that is what you are looking for.

I could not have imagined a more perfect wedding dress shopping experience than the one I experienced at Modern Trousseau DC. They had a fantastic selection of gorgeous, quality made dresses in a variety of styles, and the shop is situated in a lovely part of Georgetown. However, what absolutely made the experience was Sabrina. She was knowledgeable, strategic, supportive, and never made it seem like you were inconveniencing her. She was SO knowledgeable and helpful and really worked to get you what you wanted as well as what you may never have envisioned for yourself. I didnt feel like she randomly brought me dresses; there was an order that made sense that all culminated in a dress I LOVED. I thought I knew exactly what I wanted going into the store, but I am so grateful for the perfectly selected pieces and combinations Sabrina helped bring to life that led me to my dress! Beyond that, she was very helpful and professional in the dressing room, and I never felt uncomfortable. She was not pushy or trying to make a sale; she really made me feel like she was in it for me. Her suggestions and recommendations were fantastic; she was the perfect amount of involved in the process. At the end of the day, I ended up rescheduling a flight just to go back because of how helpful I found her specifically, and ultimately, she helped me piece together a custom piece that I fell in love with. I loved my experience at modern trousseau. Id been to 3 other dress shops and nothing ever felt right. Even though I came in with no idea of what I wanted, Kelly and David helped me find my perfect dress. Callie and her team did a wonderful job creating such a beautiful piece. It couldnt fit more perfectly and the quality is unmatched.

Modern Trousseau was my first stop of 3 shops in DC and I ended up finding my dress and canceling the other 2. Being able to customize your dress as much as youd like to the point where it is essentially a custom gown is a game changer! And its all made in the USA!Sabrina made the experience wonderful. Just got home with my beautiful wedding dress and wanted to rave about my experience! This shop has really high-quality dresses; Id been struggling to find one that was classic and relatively modest, and a friend recommended Modern Trousseau, where shed gotten her (gorgeous) gown.At my bridal appointment, Sabrina and her team were so patient and attentive, asking me about all my preferences, and showing me tons of dresses. Even after all the time they spent with me, I wasnt pressured to buy - but I literally dreamed about one of the dresses, and went back at the end of the week to make the purchase!SO happy with my experience at this shop! Modern Trousseau DC was extremely helpful with assisting me in finding my wedding dress! Jackie and Kelly were very nice and had great tips on how to style my dress for the big day. I not only felt comfortable and beautiful but like myself on my wedding which is what really mattered to me. They always started on time for every fitting and went above and beyond to help me find the perfect dress. They even helped me plan on how to get it overseas! Would recommend this shop to anyone looking for a wedding dress!

She was not only so kind, courteous and professional but incredibly knowledgeable and helpful with selecting my wedding dress! After trying on several dresses I liked but with hesitation about cost she reached out to me the next day letting me know of other store sample options to consider based upon my style and cost preferences. She kindly not only offered to put each of them on the mannequin and send me pictures but also try them on herself and send me a video to get a better sense of each dress-I was blown away how much effort she put into helping me find my perfect dress! I ended up coming back the following day and falling in love with one of those new dresses and was thrilled to take it home with me that day. Truly one of the best customer service experiences I’ve ever had! 😊

Ive been to Modern Trousseau twice - once as a Maid of Honor and once as the Bride - and each experience was something Ill never forget. Each time we were the only group in the studio and it was nice to have the place to ourselves. The staff are kind, considerate, and extremely helpful. As a bride, Sabrina helped me find the perfect dress. Truthfully, I wasnt sure if I would have that moment and after 20 dresses, she had me try on one that was on a manikin nearby. As soon as I stepped into it and she pinned the cathedral length veil on me, I was a puddle. Cant thank her enough for her guidance and expertise. Book an appointment and enjoy every minute of it!

Modern Trousseau is such a special place to shop for a wedding dress - I highly recommend it to all brides! It is different than most bridal boutiques in that all dresses are from the same designer and because each is made to order, they are 100% customizable. As you try on dresses, you can decide on a top from one, a lace from another, less layers, etc. It is SO fun to design your dress as you go, and the team there has such a sharp eye for helping you think through options. I especially loved working with Sabrina who was so welcoming, thoughtful, and creative. As a result, I not only love the dress I chose (that I designed!) but I also have the most fond memories of the experience. Highly, highly recommend making Modern Trousseau a stop on your wedding dress journey!

Initially, I wrote a glowing review of dress shopping at Modern Trousseau was lovely, however, my bridal experience was tainted after purchasing my dress.When my beautiful dress arrived at the store, the length and the straps were too long. We had expected the length to need alterations but not the straps as we were told this was a custom dress and would fit nearly exactly to my body per their measurements.On a separate calls with the owner about the straps, my mother and I found the owner to be dismissive of our concerns and demeaning regarding womens bodies & weight (obviously a very sensitive issue generally, but especially when it comes to purchasing a wedding dress). I do not support these attitudes and felt insulted by his paternalistic, arrogant language as well as by the way he spoke to and of my mother, the dress purchaser.The dress is stunning but after taking it to a seamstress, it is apparent there are a number of issues that I feel a $3500 custom dress should not have. Namely: the straps are an inch too long and uneven, the hook and eye is in the wrong spot, the buttons dont cover the zipper so the zipper is visible, and there does not seem to be an outer dress bustle. I am frustrated that so many little details were overlooked by both the makers of the dress and also the sales associate when I tried it on in the store. Unfortunately, I feel the relationship with MT has become too negative to discuss this and even if I did call them, I do not believe that MT would fix this issues without an extra cost.I feel mislead by Modern Trousseau and that a custom dress should not require so many alterations. Ultimately, it seems that Modern Trousseau is most concerned about selling dresses but not on following through post-sale.

I cannot properly express how wonderful my experience was at Modern Trousseau. Kelly and David were so knowledgeable, kind, and helpful! I found my absolute dream dress and veil and I wish it were my wedding day already so that I could wear it!! Phenomenal experience! I cannot reccomend this shop enough! The staff was amazing, very sweet and made you feel so excited about your special day.They were not at all judgmental or negative in any way. In fact, they are very welcome to any ideas you may have, in part because they specialize in custom-made gowns (made in the USA in Massachusetts! You can even visit their ateliers for a custom fitting experience!) Due to this, they were on the higher end (and outside) of my budget, but I definitely plan to get my veil and any accessories with them.They take their time and you do not feel rushed, nor do you feel pressured to make the big decision. Their store is immaculate, very clean and masks were worn the entire time. The gowns themselves are GORGEOUS! For the bride looking for something classic or unique, this is a MUST stop shop-- you can truly make the dress of your dreams here, with the sweetest and most chic fairy godmother attendants you can imagine.

Modern Trousseau is the cutest store! I wanted to get a sample dress for my wedding in two months, and I am so happy to have left the store with the dress in hand! Finding a dress without any lace or beading was strangely hard to find in other stores, but Modern Trousseau has plenty of options. Sabrina was so helpful as she let me go over my appointment time to pick the perfect dress, a belt, and the right veil. Super no-nonsense and efficient. I must have picked out 20 dresses before I found the one, and it was actually a dress she brought out after seeing what I liked/disliked! Being out of the area, she also helped me find a local tailor and answered any other questions I had, super helpful for a bride trying to get everything done in a short time.

After going to 5 different bridal salons in one day, I still hadnt found my dress and felt like giving up. I couldnt believe I was actually brought to tears when I found my dress!Martuly was in constant communication as my dress was being custom-made and proactively checked in even after it was delivered. I had the pleasure of working with Sabrina and Jill to find my wedding dress in August. They were excellent, especially given COVID and certain restrictions, they made my mom and me feel special during the entire shopping experience. I showed a few pictures and explained what I liked/didn’t like and they were spot on with their recommendation: a combination of a bodice from one dress and the skirt of another—a complete custom dress! I cant believe I just stumbled across this beautiful, affordable boutique!! I found my perfect dress with my mom & sister after 2 prior failed attempts (3rd time is a charm!)... But the ladies who helped me at Modern Trousseau, Sabrina & Maddie, were a huge part of why today was so magical... They were easy-going, helpful, had great style advice and literally FOUND the dress off the rack after I had tried several on. They encouraged me to try the very last dress that I tried on - a dress I had underestimated because of one component - that ended up being the dress I LOVED and walked out with! I could not be happier!

I love everything about Modern Trousseau DC and the team! Navigating wedding dress shopping during COVID seemed overwhelming, but Jill and Sabrina made my experience so amazing and a 10/10! We all wore masks during the appointment, but I still felt like I was getting the full experience of a normal appointment without COVID! This was our first bridal store ever and she truly made it easy by asking great questions, providing great feedback, and encouragement. I actually hadnt expected to want any customization as I worried I wouldnt be able to visualize the dress but she made that extremely easy as well! My husband and I were married at our apartment building with 50 of our closest family and friends in attendance during the summer of 2019. Less than 3 months in advance, I wondered into Modern Trousseau in Georgetown with a friend to look for a dress. I honestly didnt think I wanted a fancy dress because of the casual and intimate nature of our wedding, and was pretty overwhelmed by the thought of shopping for the right thing to wear.Kelly was there from the HQ team, and took us immediately without an appointment. She was kind, compassionate, asked good questions about the wedding, and provided us with sparkling rosé to calm my nerves. I tried on over 10 dresses, and she patiently helped me into and out of each. When I put on Atlas and saw myself in the mirror, I literally burst into tears, finally seeing myself as a bride for the first time in my life. She made everything work smoothly, from the short timeline to the seamstress. I could not have asked for a better experience, and highly recommend Modern Trousseau for anyone looking for gorgeous dresses and concierge-level service from an all-American, female-owned bridal atelier. I had a lovely experience picking out my wedding dress here! Since the dresses are all customizable you are able to pick certain elements from some and put them together with others- which sounded overwhelming at first but Sabrina was fabulous and able to figure out exactly what I wanted and make it possible. It was also really nice to have the whole boutique to ourselves (my mom and two best friends came) for two hours! Highly recommend!

My sister in law made an appointment for us to visit Trousseau while I visited her. Im so happy she did, because Sabrina helped us design the perfect dress for my wedding. It’s hard to put in to words how great my experience was at Modern Trousseau. Sabrina (the bridal consultant) eased all of my worries and concerns about the wedding dress shopping experience from the second I walked through the door. She listened to and prioritized my preferences, while encouraging me to try dresses that were “different” than what I envision myself in to make sure I had the full experience and no regrets. I never expected finding a wedding dress to be easy, but that’s exactly what it was. Not once did I feel pressured to pick a dress and I truly had a great time. My appointment was filled with happy tears, laughter and finding my dream dress. I couldn’t have asked for anything more... other than to move up my wedding date to get to wear that dress sooner :)

Designer Callie and Monika are beyond incredible. I went to MT after trying on so many gowns and not feeling like any of them were exactly what I imagined. I am now in the process of having a custom gown and veil made and have traveled to CT to meet with Callie, Monika, and David twice now. They have all been so incredibly patient with me. They are as much of, if not more of perfectionists than I (which is hard to imagine). They are approachable, kind, TALENTED, and have made me feel so important. I bought a dress here under the promise I would be able to alter and dye it after my wedding. After confirming I could dye the dress and being assured they had a working relationship with a dying company, I made the purchase. After my wedding, I called back to get dying information and nearly everyone I spoke to was evasive and vague. I found out the hard way that my dress was likely going to have issues being dyed and the company they work with still has it in their possession after 10 months. I wouldn’t normally write such a bad review; the dress itself was fine albeit wildly overpriced, but if you have questions for them don’t expect an honest answer if a lie will get them a purchase.

Wow! Wow! Wow!Jill and Sabrina gave me such an amazing experience. We sat down and they both gave me their undivided attention. They took some time to get to know me and then let me look around at the dresses and select what I wanted to try. While I was looking, they selected several gowns that they also thought might be good for me. I ended up buying one that they picked for me. This shop is all about you and the dress. I didnt get engaged with a previous vision of exactly what I would wear on my wedding day, but the staff here helped me find what I really wanted. Before going to this bridal boutique I went to Nordstroms, Anthropologie, and one other independent boutique. Every bridal boutique I went to before this one had excellent service, selection and overall experience, but what made Modern Trousseau special was the range of styles from classic to modern/trendy (or any combination therein), and their level of custom fit/custom style. In the end, they helped me find the dress and a veil to go with, it fit perfectly when I received it.Additional: when I originally went here to try my dress on and decided to order from them it was before COVID. When we had to postpone our wedding, Modern Trousseau held the dress until I was ready to have it shipped. They were responsive in communication and extremely accommodating. I cant speak highly enough for their customer service above and beyond what was already a wonderful experience dress shopping. Cant recommend this business highly enough.

I had the BEST experience at Modern Trousseau! It was my third bridal shop of the day and as soon as I walked in, I felt so welcomed and comfortable. Kelly was absolutely wonderful. She had my bridesmaids and me walk around to pick out dresses we liked and let us pop a bottle of champagne (the first place we could that day!). I ended up picking a custom dress that day. It was truly an amazing experience. Kelly was so helpful, and really made us feel welcome. My girls popped some champagne and got comfortable while Kelly showed me dress after dress. Her knowledge of the gowns was so helpful in making sure that I found the perfect garment and her sweet puppy Fall was very supportive! The pricing was very fair, especially for the quality and customization of the dresses, and Kelly is even working to get my flower girl some matching lace. I just wish I was getting married sooner so I could show my fiance already!

I wanted to go dress shopping to see some inspiration and try on my first dresses after looking a lot online, and Kelly was able to get me an appointment same day. Once inside, I felt totally comfortable with the idea of customizing my dress. Kelly helped me fold and clip two dresses together with a piece of fabric over my arm as a sleeve to help me visualize my perfect dress. It was everything I wanted but couldnt find in one dress. Because of the amazing Black Friday sale, it was easy to make the decision right then and there.I found my perfect custom wedding dress in one stop, made in the USA with heirloom French lace to my measurements and on sale. Boom! Done.

I had the most incredible experience at Modern Trousseau in Georgetown!! From the second I walked in, I knew I would find the perfect dress. I went to 2 different stores on Friday and really liked a few different dresses, but there was no flexibility to customize the ones I liked to make them perfect. The second Kelly told me each dress was custom, I KNEW I would fall in love with one! I could not recommend Modern Trousseau more.

I was even able to completely customize the wedding dress of my dreams! I cannot recommend Modern Trousseau DC enough!

Brides beware. For context, heres my original review from a year ago. We had the best experience at Modern Trousseau. Kelly was personable, helpful, welcoming, and more importantly made me feel comfortable. She never settled for less than absolute perfection and helped me create my own unique dress. There is something special about making one of your most important investments at a local DC, woman owned company with outstanding customer service.One year later, and I cant express how disappointed I am in Modern Trousseaus customer service after receiving my gown. Two warnings for other girls making this important decision: 1) Their advertisement of a custom dress isnt exactly what one expects with a custom experience. You should expect to add an additional $500-800 dollars to your total for alterations - for example, taking four inches in length off your custom dress. 2) The previous poor reviews of the General Manager being rude and condescending - to say the very least - are all too accurate. If I could go back and make this once-in-a-lifetime investment over again, I would not choose Modern Trousseau, which really is so unfortunate.

I didn’t think a couture gown was possible for me, but they were sensitive to my budget and helped me find a dream dress. I can’t wait for the final product. Highly recommend a visit.

Kelly and Fall (the store puppy) are amazing! Kelly is really very knowledgeable and very empowering. No one made you feel bad if you didnt like a dress- She took your notes and moved through them to more dresses. This is an all women owned business- and it shows! The dresses in this store are thoughtful and expertly created. I really think that theres probably something in here for everyone. I definitely recommend stopping in to look around. Also- keep an eye open for sample sales!

Modern Trousseau DC made my wedding dress experience wonderful from start to finish. I went to a few other places around the DMV area, but when I went to Modern Trousseau I knew it was the place to find my perfect dress. I was able to take a sample dress and make some changes to truly make the dress my own. I received many compliments on my dress, and I truly felt like a stunning bride on my wedding day. These ladies were amazing. I went to several places to look for a gown and they were by far the best place. I got my gown tailor made for me, which is awesome because I am about three sizes smaller on my top than bottom,and every other store wanted me to buy the size closest to the biggest part of me and then charge me to tailor it. As far as the quality of the dresses and the boutique atmosphere I would say M.T. is 5 stars. Other than that the service is more like 3. I booked my first appointment with them which went well! My stylist was very sweet and they let us bring champagne in to drink. They also had a very nice seating area for your guests. The experience started to go downhill when I booked a follow-up appointment with the manager and stylist and when I came back this appointment was nowhere to be found in their books. Mistakes happen though so I wasnt that mad. They were still able to see me. It wasnt until the experience started to feel very salesy that I began to feel a little uncomfortable. The manager quoted me a discounted price and when I asked if I could think about it they said the offer was only good until the end of the day. I felt rushed and pressured to buy it right then. I feel like this is not how a wedding dress experience should go. Its a special day and moment and the bride should be made to feel comfortable and not stressed. Also, during my first appointment, the stylist said my budget out loud in front of all of my friends. This is a pretty personal thing, and I have been to other appointments where the stylists are very careful not to say the brides actual budget out loud.

Kelly is the absolute sweetest and her dog Fall made the whole experience just delightful :) All the dresses are made in the US and you can customize quite a bit if you dont like certain parts of a dress. I wouldnt have looked twice at this dress with straps but Kelly let me know I could turn it into off the shoulder straps and I was sold!

I loved my wedding dress shopping experience at Modern Trousseau. Associates were warm, understanding, and enthusiastic. They made the experience easy and not overwhelming whatsoever. I ended up taking the top bodice of one dress and the bottom skirt from another which they seamlessly assembled. I couldnt be happier with the final fit, so much so that I ended up sleeping in my gown. It fit like a glove! Thank you Modern Trousseau for making my dream dress.

The Modern Trousseau experience is a marriage of high quality product and exceptional service and support. Im so glad that I found my way there! I cannot say enough good things about Modern Trousseau!! I had grown exasperated by the whole wedding dress shopping experience — I tried on dress after dress and couldn’t find anything I liked in my budget. I was so over the experience I almost canceled my appointment at Modern Trousseau altogether, but I’m so glad I didn’t! The consultant I worked with, Kelly, was really amazing. She has a great attitude and made me feel super comfortable so I was actually able to have fun. She really guided me through the appointment rather than letting me aimlessly try on dresses, which I think made all of the difference.What makes the boutique unique is their ability to customize. I was able to take the top of one dress and mix it with the bottom of another to create MY perfect dress. Kelly pulled out all of the stops to get my dress in my budget and I walked out a happy bride with the perfect dress. I seriously can’t recommend this place enough!!

I had a wonderful experience buying my wedding dress at Modern Trousseau DC last week! The staff is so helpful and accommodating, and they really took the time to listen to me and work with me to find the dress that was best for me and my wedding style - or they can also create a dress for you! Kelly, David and Stephanie are awesome! I absolutely recommend going to Modern Trousseau before you buy your wedding dress anywhere else. The quality of fabric is noticeably very well-made, and the lace and beading details are beautiful. They can also work on any timeline! I couldnt recommend them more highly.

Kelly was so wonderful to work with! She made the day so much fun and helped me be decisive, while enjoying my time with family. She understood what material and look I was going for, while encouraging me to try other styles. She knew when to take some styles away based on our progress and she was flexible, allowing us to take some time to think it over and return later to say yes! Lovely salon and felt so special in it!

I LOVED my dress. It was exactly what I wanted on a short 4 month engagement when no one else would work with me to get a dress done in time. I would have preferred less logistics to try on the muslin, fix discrepancies, and get it back in time.Overall, Kelly gave the best customer service and she truly cares to make you feel your best! Modern Trousseau Georgetown DC provided terrible customer service. I went in for a fitting less than three weeks after ordering a custom-tailored tress. When my two bridesmaids and I pointed out that my dress was inches too big, David, the store manager, shouted get out my store at me and my two bridesmaids. He claimed that I must have lost weight -- and two full inches off my waist and bust, and that was why the dress didnt fit. But I didnt lose weight, and have always worn a size 25 or 26 jean, not the 29 inches that he claimed I had been. When he was originally measuring, I raised a concern about him not tightening the measuring tape, but he arrogantly assured me he was a professional and had been working there since 1990. I asked him if there was any solution to the ill-fitting dress, and he told me to take it or leave it. I left, and am now without a wedding dress right before my wedding.It was a traumatizing experience for me and my bridesmaids.

I used Modern Trousseau for my gown earlier this year and I couldn’t recommend them more. They are very easy to work with and very approachable- not stiff like some other stores. They have a beautiful selections of gowns- all from the same MT designer so you can mix and match elements of gowns if you’d like. I was lucky enough to work with two Modern Trousseau locations and consultants when purchasing my wedding dress. Kelly at the Georgetown, DC location, and Jen in Nashville. I can’t say enough wonderful things about either of these ladies or my MT experience.When I walked into MT Georgetown in March, I had fairly low expectations. I’d had two lengthy but disappointing appointments elsewhere, and was no closer to finding THE dress. But the instant I stepped into the first gown at Modern Trousseau, it felt different. No, that one wasn’t the one either, but it was the first one that put a smile on my face. Beautifully lined, obviously well-made, and unique in the array of seemingly identical itchy polyester numbers I’d seen (elsewhere) so far.Kelly bent over backward to ensure every detail was exactly as I wanted it. When I took delivery in Nashville Jen and DeNeal—the immensely talented seamstress who handles their alterations—patiently took me through the rest of my fitting appointments.I ultimately chose a dress that felt like me on my very best day—and three weeks ago, that’s precisely how I felt wearing it. You will not be disappointed! I was not a fan of trying on wedding dresses, but Kelly was amazing!! She made me and my family feel very welcomed! They are by appointment only so we had to the entire boutique to ourselves for 2 hours, which was so nice. Kelly listened to me talk about what I thought I wanted, and through trying on lots of styles somehow determined what I was really looking for and created me the most amazing gown all while never letting my champagne glass go empty for too long! Modern Trousseau’s also custom makes your gown in CT by their designer Callie. I never thought I could get this level of service and a custom gown in my budget, but I am so glad I found them and cannot recommend them enough!!

This is a dress that, on the rack, I would not have looked twice at. But once I put this dress on and walked out... well everyone cried :) I think Kelly knew this would be the dress and I am so thankful for all of her help while working within my budget.
