Where is this place? We walked up and down the street. It is nowhere to be found!

I thought we were visiting a chocolatier. What a disappointment. We drove around in circles because the name was not on the building. We were finally told in was in the coffee shop, but even inside the building we couldnt find it. Turns out it was one tiny cabinet, mostly empty. What a waste of time.

Update: This place has now relocated to Waco while chef Ken is recovering from an unfortunate accident. I am leaving this review here as a tribute to the great shop that chef Ken run!Yes, this place is expensive, as other reviews say. Yes, the chef is a character. Yes, the food is unorthodox. But if you prefer generic food and service accompanied by plastic smiles, I believe your tastes are well catered for in this part of the world. This place is different. The food is totally worth the price! Same goes for chocolates: they are pricey, but the nearest place I know with chocolates of comparable quality is in Vienna. The chef cares more about the food than about cleanliness of his apron (sorry, he actually makes the food, this tends to sully the apron!) or his language. But isnt this how its supposed to be?So I am willing to forgo the fake luxury of decor and service to get the amazing food and personal attention of the great chef!

3.5 stars for yummy Bourbon chocolate truffle ball. 2.5 stars for $3.00 for smallish Bourbon chocolate ball and no discount for higher quantity discount. The building is lovely. The business takes up very little of the space. I cannot speak to coffee bar side of their business as it was 100° out.

Cocoamodo is worth a special journey! You will get personalized service and better food than you can get anywhere else that Ive been in Texas. Its best to trust the chef, but if you have a particular like or dislike he will happily accommodate it. The most charged is $65 for 5 courses (and you wont be able to finish it all)--I dont know why other reviewers say it cost more. I will definitely be back and you should too!

Firstly - the chocolates (2*)They are good. Not great, but good. There were some interesting and different flavors; some of which worked, some of which didnt. The prices in store are fairly expensive for what they are - $3 a truffle. However comparatively, the online prices are extortionate.Secondly - Online Experience (0*)Prices are ramped up online, presumably due to the fancy packaging it is delivered in (which included numerous plastic grocery store bags as padding). There was a priority delivery charge (1 day delivery) of $15, which wouldnt have been so bad if the chocolates arrived the next day. Instead they arrived two weeks later. USPS had done their part in delivering the chocolates the day after they received them; however they didnt receive them until two weeks after the order had been placed. Finally - In Store Experience (0*)My girlfriend and I had a horrific experience. Some may classify the owner as eccentric or a character; I classify him as rude, arrogant and obnoxious. Whilst my girlfriend and I were trying to enjoy a quiet, romantic treat with posh chocolates, the owner would not leave us in peace, and instead spent the entire time telling us about how hes managed to buy a Bentley and a private plane, amongst other self obsessed stories. All this was whilst blowing cigarette smoke in our faces the entire time.Calvert is a lovely town. We really thought wed stumbled across a little gem in East Texas. Unfortunately, at the heart of it lies this place, which should have been one of the main reasons to return to the town. Instead, it is the main reason why we wont.

I have tried many chocolate places around Texas. There are a few good ones in Dallas and in Houston, but by far Cocoamoda is the best in Texas guaranteed. Not only that, the shop is in such a nice town with neat little shops. You can tell that the owner really puts a lot into his craft. The hot chocolate alone is worth driving out to this quaint town to try. Seriously, it is so good, that whenever I drive past Cocoamoda, I have to stop just to get it, even in really hot weather. You may think it is a bit on the pricier side, but I guarantee it is worth every penny. He doesnt skimp on high quality chocolate. Try it once and you will be hooked. Also, the chocolates there are amazing! You have to try the Key Lime Pie, but he is always putting out a new creation, and I have never been disappointed. You can also order them shipped to you. Sadly enough, the hot chocolate is kind of a thing you have to get there.

I just got home from visiting Cocoamoda for the first time and Im impressed. My wife and I just had a few truffles and an espresso each and it was wonderful. Ken came out and met us and the other customers and was utterly delightful. Weve not yet tried the dinner course offered on the weekends, but we sure plan to when the opportunity arrives. The chocolates were well crafted and very enjoyable. I dont know if they offer any lunch meal options as Restaurant Impossible suggested this season as we only came for the chocolate. If youre into chocolatier chocolates this place is definitely recommended. Prices were reasonable for handmade sweets and the flavors were excellent. Best part of the visit though was Ken playing with our 10 month old son. The man has a joyous personality.

My mother and I dropped in for a dessert and were surprised at the high prices of the chocolates, which are comparable in size to a large cherry. We were going to buy just two chocolates after hearing the price, $3 each, but were denied...They are sold in sets of four ($12), six ($18), and eight ($24); The website sells their products with each product averaging over $27. Settling for the set of four, we picked out two creme-brulees, one key lime, and one anisette. The creme-brulee was filled with some cheap, Valentines Day candy liquid, the key lime was tasty, and the anisette was the best of the group.Overall, we enjoyed the chocolates, not to say they were the best in Texas, but felt like we got scammed $12. I doubt COCOAMODA will be in business for a long while.

A hidden gem in Central TexasWe travel from Waco to Houston quite a bit, but usually at night or early morning before Cocoamoda opens. However today we drove thru Calvert in the middle of the day and the shop was open. The shop itself is quaint with a chocolate bar and a coffee bar. Selections vary by week.We tried the hot chocolate which was good (4 out of 5) and the truffles. The Caracas (dark chocolate with dark chocolate) was great, but our favorite was the Key Lime. They are not inexpensive but are reasonable considering they are hand made.Next time you are driving thru Calvert, stop by and treat yourself to a little bit of chocolate heaven!

A gourmet chocolate shop in a ghost town. Strange paired but surprisingly fascinating. The cooccolatini (especially those with tequila!) Are delicious and the same goes for chocolate coffee. And the gem is Jackline, the owner, kind and very nice who makes you feel at home even in Calvert-Texas!
