Great store! Everyone was welcoming, informative and very helpful! We also got great advice on where to hike which ended up making this trip to Taos the best one yet. A little disappointed that they would not sell us their labradoodle! Very happy with their product lines; the owner has done a great job stocking the right gear for the right season. Not dog friendly....I drove an hour and had a pocket full of $$$ for some gear and they would not let me and my small dog inside. It was 90°+ outside and no where to safely leave the dog. Even after explaining I needed just a couple high dollar items and I could be in and out in a few minutes they refused. Even kinda blocked the door as if Id try to rush in.....Spent the $$$ online! SO much for supporting local businesses as I travel....

No 4 season tents no animal life jackets. So The Employee That was helping me says its not that time of year. So what the hell does a 4 season tent mean?

Bought a pair of Patagonia glove liners 2.5 weeks ago here for $45. They are completely falling apart. Brought them in for an exchange and they told me that I have to send them to Patagonia if I want an exchange. So, now I either have to wait 3-4 weeks for a return or buy a new pair of gloves.I’the owner told me that basically they would have to do the same thing. But the difference is that I am not a retail store. In the future, instead of supporting a “local business” I’ll just shop online.
Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of local hikes. We were planning a quick overnight trip before heading back to KS, and the staff was mindful of the upcoming Labor Day weekend and directed us to a different spot that was likely to be much less busy. Took time to give great beta and we had a great trip!
Lately, weve been lucky to catch good sales here. We feel much better about shopping here than hiking down to REI in Santa Fe for the same things. We have, however, found really cool stuff not at REI. TMO are also great local partners. They recently helped us out for a project at Taos Pueblo. They make you feel welcome!

My friends and I met the owners on a hike and they were very nice to us. They heard of our struggles during our camping trip and the cold temps that we had endured and they graciously offered us free supplies and discounts on merchandise in the store. They have a great selection of outdoor gear and are very knowledgeable. We will be forever grateful for their generosity.

I used to kind of like this place, but when I saw the water bowl outside and walked in with my dog, the sales person treated me like I had just committed some federal crime. It’s unbelievable to me that in this day and age an outdoor store would not be dog friendly.
This is my favorite outfitter in the area. The store is huge and always fully stocked. They have a great selection of the best outdoor clothing brands, all the highest quality products. They also have the essentials you need if you are heading out on the train and realize you forgot the fuel for your stove (this did not happen to me, just hypothetical).The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and will help you make sure that you get the right product for your need.We visit here every time that we come to Taos.
Bill and Karen are the some of the sweetest kindness people Ive ever met. We ran into them in the mountains while hiking and they were so very kind and genuine. Those are the kinds of people you want to meet when you travel. We visited hem at their store and they gave us some amazing deals on equipment that will surely last is years. Id recommend this place to anyone, easily.

I bought an expensive pair of Keen hiking shoes from this company two days ago. Yesterday I wore them on a two mile walk and a defect in the right shoe caused a foot pain that was unbearable. Today I tried to get the owner to exchange or replace the shoes and he told me that he could not help me! I was stunned! I have been a loyal customer for 30 years but no more! So much for shop local.
Bought an osprey backpack about 8-9 years ago and have had zero problems with it. NOT. ONE. SINGLE. PROBLEM. Bought another osprey pack yesterday as well. super friendly shop and very helpful. Not to forget about Daisy ❤️
I like the owner and they have a great collection of outdoor gear for runners, hikers and dogs. There was an arrogant younger dude “helping” when I last came here with an impossible attitude but ...that’s typical of young dudes... most of the staff who have been around are great.
Bought a topo map and got GREAT INFO from (I think) the owner or manager. She was extremely helpful for area hikes within a 45M radius of Taos.
After buying Ill fitting boots from LL Bean last year for Shanendoah NP that ended up annihilating my toes when hiking the Tetons, the two gentlemen working the store today educated me as to why my shoes weren’t going to work for me in higher elevations. They were extremely patient, knowledgeable, and kind. The prices weren’t hiked for the tourists and the selection was amazing. Highly recommended and very thankful for the help.

So very disappointed in this store. I found a hat I wanted to purchase but decided to shop at another nearby store before committing to purchase. Came back before closing to find the door locked and the employees cleaning up shop before closing time. My husband and myself informed them that we wanted to purchase a hat we had already picked out. The employee replied, “I’m a musician and I have a gig in like an hour.” The employees were not accommodating and despite it still being their store hours, did not let us in to purchase said hat. Needless to say, they missed out on our business and will not receive our future business. Poorly run. I would not recommend giving them your business either.

I was rudely told about their no pet policy 30 seconds walking in the door. I didnt see their tiny sign as I had my hands full with three small children and a 90lb dog and lots of traffic on the side walk. I saw the water bowl for dogs and assumed it was pet friendly, big mistake. I tied my dog up outside and went in to try and make a quick purchase ($100). The same rude employee left the counter as soon as I walked up with my item and proceeded to ignore me and chat with a friend, making sure to keep looking back at me to see if I was still there. As I turn to walk off he quickly returned back to the counter. Guess I didnt look rich enough for him to help me or he was intentionally not willing to check me out. I visited here as a child, so did my parents so he just made this business lose our business for generations.

We visit TMO every time we come to Taos and have always had a great experience there. Everyone weve encountered has always been kind, helpful and knowledgable. They carry some very nice stuff. I have purchased some wool coats and sweaters that have lasted years. Dont miss this one.
