This company will rip you off. I came here for a rebuilt engine in 2016 for my 1990 4runner. 3 years later the water pump goes out (this should last a decade), the next year the head gaskets blew (these should last 200k plus miles on this engine), and now my crankshaft seal blew (also should last hundreds of thousands of miles). My highly trusted mechanic replaced it and told me that all the parts are clearly old and this engine was definitively not rebuilt at any point. I still have my old receipt that says rebuilt engine right on it, this business either replaced my head gaskets and called it a day or put in a used engine without rebuilding it. Including the costs of the repairs and the rebuilt engine I lost about $10k. I cannot recommend enough that you find a different business to go through.
Costs of repairs are great, good work and got my vehicle back on the road one day. Very happy with this repair shop !
Jose (bilingual) and his team are very honest welcoming, patient and profesional.I always need to have things explained things to the very detail and they match such expectation. .I’m new to the area so I will continue to do business with them.
They put a used Japanese engine in our 2010 Subaru, less than 50K miles. Work was professional, quick and as quoted.
Took quite a while since these guys were quite busy due to what I see is a well earned reputation, but this is the shop C&D Motors (still currently Ts Automotive) not only recommended me to for an engine job, but flatbedded my car to. They not only got the job done at a pretty good price, but they also noticed several issues they made note of, most of which I already knew about. They clearly wanna make sure youre behind the wheel of a well working ride once you leave their shop, and that I certainly respect. Will be back for specialised engine work at some point.
Came to them with my concerns over my 2003 subaru outback h6. And they not only diagnosed my issue by were incredibly fair on their pricing for the repair. I found my forever autoshop. Thanks guys!! Will definitely be returning for future repairs!
Came here to get my RAV4 Engine replaced. Paid half the price up front for the engine to be ordered and installed, and half at completion of service. Everything was extremely well priced, the length of time it took seemed appropriate for the degree of work being done, and the work and all parts came with a warranty. Only 4 stars because I had to use that warranty to fix a mistake that required them to take the engine out again. And more than 3 stars because there was no fuss or attempts to put the responsibility on mine ever. They just took it back and did what they promised theyd do. Despite the mistake that was made, Id still reccomend them due to their integrity and work ethic.
Great place nice person good prices will buy from them again
They are very helpful and competitively priced
We were very pleased with the work done by this shop. They were very easy to deal with and friendly! Great value! When we had a few issues, took the truck back and they corrected everything quickly and at no charge! Would definitely recommend!
They replaced the engine in my sons car and were reasonably priced and quick. Great customer service!
Took it here to get my car worked on cuz it had no spark going to the distributor and fuel pump. Had it there for 4 days and they couldnt get it started. When I go to pick it up they told me everything I already knew and I asked if they checked the engine harness they said they dont deal with those. That got me cuz they deal with engine swaps there and Im shaking my head cuz I wouldnt have brought it there if I had known. Im glad I took it to Richtuned cuz they got my car started in 1 day and they fixed everything I asked them to. This shop from what I experienced knows nothing but general mechanics. Nothing special. Id recommend taking your cars to a better known company.
Roberts shop and workers provide the finest quality and service you can get anywhere. I have gone to them for almost 19 years for all my import Auto repairs and services, including engine swaps, clutches, C-V Axels, etc. I have always received the best repairs and service you can possibly get. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for these services. Thank you Robert and José for your excellent service.
Japanese Auto Engines is one of the more reliable companies in the Seattle/Tacoma area. I had to replace an engine and tune up a couple of things for my Lexus and what really what compelled me to write this is their service level and candidness. They said that other stores might be less expensive but their work (and warranty) is more reliable which has been true thus far.
These guys know Toyotas.Over the years Ive used them twice for 22RE engine swaps, their motors run like tops and they are easy to deal with. You can rest assured with your JDM car in their hands.
Jose is very up front and honest about his prices. Would recommend anyone i know here.
Have not been there in several years, but last visit was excellent, rebuilt the engine on my 86 Trooper
I live 2 1/2 hours away and I was told about this place from a friend. I thought my favorite car was going to be in the junk yard, because I was not able to find a motor.I looked for months, meanwhile adding one quart of oil in my car every 120 miles or so. OOPS.. I called this place and when he told me he had one I just started to cry. I drove up there and for an additional few hundred dollars ( worth every penny) he installed my used, yet new motor. He also offered me (for a couple dollars more,) since he had to take the motor out anyways, to replace the timing and all gaskets. I said yes, please. He was so nice and it came with a warranty. On the way home a check engine light came one, I thought here we go!!! I called the next day as they were already closed and I told him what came on and he said that I would be fine to bring it back up within the week. I took my car back up and he did not give me the greatest news, however he is a man of his word and said he would fix anything that goes wrong, and paid $90.00 towards a rental, because he was worried about me driving such a long way to get home. It ended up being a small oil leak in one of the gaskets, but he wanted to drive the car and continue to test drive the car so I would be safe. Mind you I have a 12 year old Mazda 6, however I love that car and because of this place I am able to keep my car. It does not burn oil every 120 miles anymore. I can now continue to go too college and have a good car to drive. I recommend this place to anyone that wants to save money and keep their car.
I am so pleased! Im still so in love with my little 1996 Subaru legacy. I couldnt bear the thought of parting with her, and going out to look for a new car. Japanese Auto Engines gave me a great alternative that was so much more affordable! So pleased with the service, and the results! I just had my first oil change, and everything is working like a top. The new engine runs smoothly, and and I was so grateful for the easy opportunity to replace the water pump and timing chain.Thank you so much!
Japanese Auto Engines is a terrific repair shop! Their main concern is to help their customers save money while providing a high quality service. Japanese Auto Engines does not try to repair unnecessary items or recommend unneeded service. They are honest, caring, and professional. The people at JAE are accommodating and thorough. Their work has always been on budget, on time, and reliable. Over the last 12 or so years, we could not be more delighted with the repairs they have done. Thank you Japanese Auto Engines for your efforts and thank you for the thousands of dollars you have saved us over the years. Life is good when you know a good, honest mechanic!!!
Had my 22RE remanufactured by them 4 months ago and they did a great job had a small valve cover leak but they took care of it right away and havent had any issues since then. Great customer service and easy to work with
This place is great! The work they do is solid and I trust them with all of my vehicles. My sister had her engine replaced by them and it’s going strong to this day.I take me car here for all the service the Honda dealer recommends for half the price! The staff are friendly and don’t treat you like you know nothing. I’ve always felt that I was being felt with honestly!Check them out for you next big service. You won’t be disappointed!
*Total scam artist*. The guy thought that because Im a woman he could try and rip me off. He attempted to charge me 300 hundred dollars for nothing without even asking me prior and that wasnt even to fix the problem. Then to fix the problem, he stated I would need a rebuild for about 4 grand. Little did he know the engine was already rebuilt. I went somewhere else, or should I say somewhere honest and the problem was fixed for under 200 dollars. The car is running and purring like a kitten now, no thanks to them. Also, they kept my car for like 3 days to end up with nothing but an attempt to screw me over.
Finding a good honest mechanic is one of lifes toughest challenges. People search their whole lives and never find one. Thats why I feel that my family is very blessed that we found Japanese Auto. They stand by their work and are always willing to work with us to find the most affordable repair option. Thanks Guys!!!! You are best..
This auto shop is the best - they are very professional and go the extra mile for all automotive services. Very trustworthy and they do what they say.
Great place to get used Japanese low mileage engines.
Recommended by my sister, I went in get my engine checked out. Turns out there was an issue with the belt that holds the engine.Bob was funny, friendly, and just awesome. He was so patient with explaining what the issue was. He was also very honest about the price and service. The other shops that Ive been too always try to rip me off with other complications of my car, but bob was honest and straightforward.Definitely recommending this place to all my friends and family.
Most unprofessional, ridiculous and sickening interaction I’ve ever had in customer service in my entire life.Bought a motor with a 1 year warranty and it went bad under conditions of the warranty that I am entitled to and paid for via contract. They refuse to even let me speak or get words out of my mouth before criticizing, degrading and disrespecting me.They refuse to talk to the mechanic shop that diagnosed what happened and they refuse to even look at the motor themselves to verify what the problem is.I guess when things go bad they go real bad.All this over a 900$ 2004 engine... that’s SAD and was a very bad decision on their partTrying to get ahold of some sort of corporate entity?? Good luck.. all the contact information on their website leads to the same sad soul who will tell you to kick rocks.. I recommend the old saying..LAWYER UP!
Great place very professional and very easy to work with.Had a short time frame to get an engine replaced and they did there magic.
I have been recommending this shop to people around me but this is actually my first time writing a review. The people at Japanese auto engines are honest and friendly. Especially the manager, Bob is an expert and knows exactly what hes doing. I am very content with their service and affordable price.
Awesome place took care of my car got it back quick and easy too . Heard about this place from my buddy they swooped out his Subaru engine and they swooped my Lexus is300 engine and I’m loving it even more now
I found Japanese Auto Engines through a friends recommendation when my 2005 Toyota Camrys break was making weird noise. I left the car at the shop for a day, and Bob explained very clearly what was the issue, what had to be done, the quote, etc., and I was able to pick up my car fixed couple days afterward. Everything was straight forward and simple, and Bob did an excellent job explaining car parts to someone who doesnt understand car at all (me). My dad also came here to change 2006 Toyota Matrix engine belt(?) and had really good experience. Highly recommend it and would come here again!
I had oil leaking from my oil pan gasket. I called them up and they quoted me a reasonable price so I went with them. I dropped my car off and my car was done a few hours later as promised.Just to make sure it was actually replaced I had my brother lift up the car and look at the gasket. It was indeed replaced because it was blue not black like the old one was. No oil leak could be found anymore.I only gave them a four star because someone at their shop took a bottle of oil I left in my trunk. I dont know what they did with that bottle but they should have told me before taking it without my permission. Other than that they did a good job.
I had a Japanese crate motor installed last year on my Honda Civic and Im a satisfied customer. Highly recommend this place to everyone!
The work on my Civics was well taken care of with a reasonable and affordable price. Very happy with their service!!
Got my car fixed. Engine as expected with no issues.
Really sincere and nice manager and employees. I am always wary about auto repair businesses, but felt that at Japanese Auto Engines they were doing all they could to save me some money while ensuring my car was safe to drive. Would highly recommend!
Bought a 22re. Burned through two quarts of oil a week. Took it to them, owner said fuel was getting into my engine. Replaced fuel regulator and injectors, still burns through two quarts a week! What a POS engine! Now I know why they have the cheapest rebuilds.
I have 1999 Toyota corolla . wont start at cold as usual.been there 4 different location. no answer.Bob, at the Japanese auto engine told me leave car for one night for check at cold.next day about 9 in the morning car has been fix $40.00I thought he is joking but car has been done. sweet .
I had a remanufactured 3.0 V6 long block installed in my Toyota truck. Best price, great product and workmanship. These folks stand behind their work and product if there is a problem. 10,000 miles and my truck runs like new. Thank you Robert.
Had my Toyota 4 Runner motor changed a year ago. Still running like a brand new. No issues thus far. Love you guys!!!
Best service I have ever received! Got quotes from 3 shops in Fife, and they had the best prices and service. Bob was so friendly and walked me through what was actually needed for my car engine to get fixed. A lot of the other shops I went to told me I needed to do a lot of unnecessary additional repairs (not surprised). They have won me over and I will be returning for years to come(hopefully wont have to often, haha), hands down! THANK YOU!!!
Overall pretty good experience. Not sure why the other reviews have such negative feedback.. they were spot on about the transmission problems I was having. Made some other recs that I couldnt afford to get done, but they were pretty clear about which were priorities and which werent and overall affordable. Wish I couldve gotten it quicker but I think they were just busy with other orders.
They were very professional and economically friendly
Awesome place to take your care for auto care! I learned about this place from my brother. He had work done on his Lexus. He was getting quotes of over $2000 everywhere. They found the relatively minor problem that was causing all the issues and only charged him $200. So, I decided to take my car there. Again, quotes of $3000 for strut assembly, brakes, and other stuff for my 08 Camry. They got it done quickly for less than half that. Camry runs great now. 2 for 2 in my book and I will be bringing my cars here in the future.
The mechanic Jim or James Sr. Hes the best. The only one id want working on my car
A just swap the motor on my Toyota pickupSounds great, and drive awesome !!Just was aspect !! Thanks !!Japanese auto service,,,
Stopped by, friendly knowledgeable. they know their business!
I had my engine replaced here in Jan-2015. I paid about $2000 for it to be done. I had a mechanic lined up to do the work. Bob told me he could do the same work for about $400 less than my mechanic quoted me.Within a short time there were other problems when the engine had a weird vibration and the engine light came on. I was told it was my distributor, even though I told them the knock censor was bad according to my code reader. I paid an additional $160 for a used distributor that I don’t even know was the problem and it took a week to diagnose and repair the problem. I got it back and then the temp gauge was up and down randomly because the system had not been purged properly. Then the summer heat came around and I found out they had opened the AC line and did not recharge it. Then I noticed a little tick in the motor on cold days. It turned out to be an exhaust leak where the manifold bolts to the head which was part of the motor replacement. I quickly tired of the problems and lack of expediency with this shop so I took it to another mechanic. I had to have the knock censor replaced, coolant purged, and AC recharged at a total cost of $885.25 and I didn’t even bother with having the little exhaust leak fixed. In my opinion, I would not recommend having work done here. If you must buy an engine from them, have your mechanic test all aspects of the engine before putting it in a vehicle. Then pay with a CC so you can have the charges reversed if the engine is bad. Then have YOUR mechanic do the work. It may cost you a little more initially, but could save a lot of headaches down the road. There is also a place in Lynnwood that sells used engines within the same price range.Bob, you can rectify this situation by refunding me part of the labor I was charged for this work, as the work was sub par. I would say about $400 would call it about even, you have my phone number. At that point I would be willing revise my review.
Ever since my sister crashed my 97 Acura Integra, the engine didnt run the same. So I brought it into Japanese Auto Engines, and Im SO glad I did. Bob, the owner, was super friendly and really took the time to understand the issue. The quote was reasonable, and there were no additional charges later. (Ive take cars to other engine shops in the area before, and I always would end up paying more than I initially expected, so this was a welcome change!) All in all, would definitely recommend!
Last summer I searched and searched for a reasonable reputable auto shop to rebuild my mothers 2003 honda transmission. I was directed to JAE. They completed the job and gave her the best warranty out there for the best price. Her vehicle is purring like a kitten. Since then we have taken all of our cars to Bob for various reasons. A Honda Ridge-line, a Kia Sol and a BMW Z4. The work on the vehicles has been outstanding and the prices fair. We have passed on Bobs information to family, friends, and neighbors who have used JAE with the same fantastic results.I high recommend JAE Bob to anyone. He is honest and professional. I wouldnt go anywhere else!
Brought my z here to get a motor swapped after my friend got his motor swapped in his miata. He does fantastic work reasonably priced and is all about helping the customer. Ill be coming to him for anymore work i need done on my car.
I like this place. A lot low miles engines
This guys are cheap and do amazing work, I recommend to everyone 😁
Awsome service! Diagnosed the problem Right away super friendly and very profesional
Great service from them on a few of our cars over the years with very fast service and reasonably priced.
Did an engine swap on my 04 wrx and it was very affordable. One month later and I haven’t had any issues with the new motor at all.
You left my car ignition on and new battery died .. Other than that thanks for helping on my car . quick, friendly, helpful honest.
My infiniti needed a new motor and they gave me the best pricing and best service! Great technicians and exelent service!
I needed a new transmission. They subbed the job out to a guy in Parkland. That guy crashed my car or somehow damaged the fender and then poorly bondo-ed and painted the fender with non-OEM paint. Then when my car was finally done (3 weeks for a transmission!) he left my car in a McDonalds parking lot and called me and told me to go pick it up and said the keys were in the muffler tip! I was at a loss for words but the guy it was subbed to can barely speak English so I couldnt even complain.
Do not use this shop you WILL REGRET IT, SUBPAR WORK!!!!!!!!!! Got engine replaced, leaking oil the first day i got it back and they didnt screw the knock sensor in all the way so it was leaking coolant. Additionally it came back with 2 other problems it didnt have in the beginning. UPDATE new motor lasted about 21/2 months now i have a blown head gasket, i pretty much got as screwed as you can get. DO NOT USE THEM THEY ARE CROOKS- Update-a warranty is only as good as the place it is coming from and from these guys it means less than nothing i will never set foot in their shop again. The fact that im throwing away $3000 should tell people something, something very big.
Grandmas car had a rebuilt engine put in back in 2017. 2 years and less than 10k miles later, cylinder 2 is dead and 3 is down on compression. Cheap for a reason.
These guys will rip you off and not honor their warrenty...i had to sue them in court to get my 1900$BE WARNED🤨
I couldnt have been happier they had the lowest prices around and I definitely feel like I got my moneys worth if not more.
Our transmission did not work smoothly. After 3 years its shot.
It us my permanent place for change oil.
Firstly, let me say that Japanese Auto Engines is not the first mechanic I have been to. I live in Gig Harbor, and I have been rather disappointed with many of the mechanics my family and I have used over the years. Finally, after years of poor service and high prices, we were directed to Japanese Auto Engines by a friend and I will probably never use another mechanic again. Not only does the shop do excellent work, but the staff genuinely cares about their customers. Bob and the rest of the staff at JAE have expert knowledge and practice the upmost professionalism. This summer, while shopping for a used car, I took several cars to JAE for an inspection including the one I ended up purchasing. After thorough inspection, the shop steered me away from the first two vehicles and probably saved me lots of money too; one had a blown head gasket amongst other issues.I have the upmost respect for the Japanese Auto Engines staff and management and I refuse to take my car anywhere else!!
I bought a 22r from these guys in April since then have had to replace the head, timing chain and rod bearings. When I first got it and started instslling it I found a few major issues that I would never expect to be found on a motor coming from a shop. One of the threading for the timing cover had a poor attempt at a helicoil type repair (this i discovered when motor failed pressure test on cooling system and didnt even require pressure to fikk block with coolant) and then the timing was set wrong too. Instead of being set to the timing marks on the cam and crank the motor was set to the logo on the cam gear. Thats irrelevent at this time, kinda, that head is no longer functional due to cheap head gasket that failed. They dont say anything about a core charge in their ad but they charge a core charge. They refused to pay me for mine as the core was damaged...REALLY? I wish I could get my money back from this rip off!No response to this? I called the other day but got put on hold and ignored.Seems to be that this place is just a scam. Its too bad the government allows places like this to not only continue operating but without consequence.
I would never, ever use this shop again! Funny about rules of thumb, theyre usually true. Usually a clean shop does better work. Makes sense. If they dont have enough pride in their work to keep their work environment clean, what kind of pride do they have in their work. When you walk in, what do you see?I had a Honda engine exchange and had to have 2 tows back to their shop for repairs in the first 3 weeks of getting the exchange done. About 2 months ago it starts running hot.The gauge is like a yo-yo. The temperature gauge never got into the red. It never showed the usual signs of overheating. Its been running hot, but not so hot as to have me pull to side of road. After 3 new thermostats, a new radiator and hoses and a new temp sensor to the gauge I was out of options and had to find out what was wrong.10 months and 12,000 miles later I am told by a shop I respect that I have either a blown head gasket (1,500$) or a cracked head (2,300$).I called Japanese Auto Engines and was told that they put engine heat tabs on their rebuilds. Its a tab that melts at a certain temperature. Sure enough mine had melted and they wont warranty the engine because it was a coolant issue and it got to hot. To keep costs down, they take the usable parts off your old engine and put on the rebuild. Thats understandable. Its also why I asked for a new water pump, timing belt and clutch put in at the time of the exchange. Right now I have no idea what parts they used from my old engine or what good parts off it they might have cherry picked. I have no idea if they even did as requested at the time and put the new parts on. I have no idea if the head on the rebuild was really machined or just slapped on with a new head gasket. Funny that could cause the situation Im in now. I also wonder what temp that tab was set for. How convenient to have the tab melt if the car runs hot so warranties dont have to be covered.
Did a great job installing a 22re in my Toyota pickup.
I really do not recomend.2007 toyota camry 70,000 mile replaced spark plug, timing belt, waterpump, tentioner and idler, oil change too. but korean guy broke my vvti sensor connector and i got check engine light on. it was p1349 and p0304
DO NOT GO HERE!!!! They broke a part on my camshaft and valve and said it was already like that when i just got the engine rebuilt. Then instantly became defensive and just told me to get my car out of there and would countersue if i took them to court. Dont let what happened to me, happen to you!! Avoid this place!!!
Very good service car running well
Very fast, efficient, friendly and economical, very happy with quality.
I had knocking noise my 1995 Toyota pick up, search for replace motorbest price and takes 3days .What a beautyrecommend this shop in my heart.
Make sure that you get what you pay for!
Overcharged me for parts. They charged me $300 for two sensors that maybe cost $100.
I hated this place, the Japanese owner has terrible credibility, did a terrible job on fixing the car, worst place to get an engine replacement, I do not recommend going here
My car got broke into in there parking lot and they made me sign a waiver of responsibility before they would work on the second engine in six months from them...
Very unprofessional and arrogant owner ever.
Thieves, cheats, liers, run!
Very good service I recommend they have good character to assist you explain in a way that you understand and does a very good job
