Kincaid, Shelia, and Spirit (two humans and one eagle, respectively) put on an amazing presentation on the Alaska Raptor Center. This was just a really cool place. They take really good care of these birds (owls and ravens too). For this city kid who has only see a bald eagle from a webcam or from the ground looking up, this was an amazing experience. I highly recommend it.
It was pretty cool to see the birds/raptors they had here. Staff was friendly and willing to answer any questions and they release the birds back into the wild if they are able to. One eagle named Volta was electrocuted nearly 30 years ago and is still there in their care as he will never be able to fly again. Check it out and learn some stuff!
Informative and exited staff. The center offers a wealth of information on our avian friends. Get a chance to see some amazing birds up close and ask their very knowledgeable staff all the questions you could ever want think of. The gift shop has some cool memorabilia which proceeds go to supporting the center.
If you have a couple hours of free time, consider visiting the Alaska Raptor Center. Friendly and patient staff and youre able to get up close to the birds theyre caring for. No, youre no allowed to hold or interact with the birds, but if you have a camera with any sort of zoom, you can get some really nice photos. The highlight of the day was when they brought out a snowy owl for a live presentation. Normally they have an eagle, but he wanted the day off. No complaints from us, we love all raptors. Admissions help the funding of the center, which we are happy to support.
Wow! These birds are amazing. The people who work there are so smart and care so much about the raptors. I was in awe of the birds beauty. My favorite was the raven and the small owls. Of course the bald eagles are so majestic. Highly recommend!
A must see in Sitka! These birds are so lucky to have a place like this to recover, rehabilitate, and return to their natural habitat. The staff is knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. Birds who are not able to be released back into the wild live out their days as “ambassadors” for the center, helping with their educational and fundraising programs.
Awesome volunteers/employees. Super fun and educational experience for me and my kids! I love that the gift shop wasnt over priced it was kind of shocking! We loved seeing Spirit in person, very beautiful eagle.
Great place to learn about raptors and see them up close. A bit far from town but walkable. Would visit again.
We were there on a cruise. We had a great time. It was fun to get up close and personal with the eagles. Kids would really enjoy this visit and it wasnt too expensive for a family.
Beautiful surroundings for this bird rehab center. The bald eagle recovery area gives an interesting opportunity to see eagles on the mend up close. The handful of trails are well kept and easy to walk with gorgeous glimpses of the river.
An amazing place where birds are taken and treated when injured. They release everyone possible with as little people interaction as possible. An awesome place to see large birds of all kinds up close! Cute gifts and curios!
Seeing the beautiful bald eagles 🦅in rehab was heart warming. They typically take 6 months to heal. We also saw a variety of owls. 🦉A must visit. 🌟
Wonderful idea to rehabilitate/share knowledge with the public. The transparency of the building and the knowledge and hospitality of the staff make this a must visit for anyone who is interested in animal care/how humans effect raptors. Stay coasting out there, raptorinos.
An interesting place to visit. The birds you’ll seen depend on what they are rehabbing at the time. Guide very knowledgeable.
Great place to bring the kids, cost a few bucks to get in but it goes twords a good cause. Has a decent little gift shop and a cool short film about what they do at the center. All around fun for the family.
The young lady who gave the presentation with the eagle Spirit was excellent patiently answered a slew of questions and was very informative !
This center does an excellent job rehabilitating injured raptors. Their facilities are beautiful.
A well run educational facility for people and a much needed recovery center for raptors.
Great trails to walk around. Wasnt able to go inside in 2020 due to Covid, but I was able to adopt some birds online in some family members names. Wonderful experience and interaction with the staff.
Small place, interesting. Beautiful birds. Short stop.
This was an absolutely great place to visit. We were able to walk there from the cruise ship port. The path was relatively flat and well-marked. It was easy to get close up pictures of some amazing Raptors and the presentation was enjoyable. This was my first visit here but I would definitely come again next time. The staff was both knowledgeable and friendly.
Very interesting explanation of wildlife rehabilitation for raptors (physical therapy for birds).
The Bald Eagles are magnificent! We enjoyed observing all the raptors!
Even as a long-time Sitka resident, I never get tired of visiting the raptor center! Beautifully educational, and the staff are very helpful! Especially Kincaid, hes the man with all the answers.
These guys capture injured birds including eagles and owls, nursing back to health and a leasing back into the wild when possible. Its a lovely mission.
We enjoyed our COVID-19 conscious tour of the Alaska Raptor Center in August 2020. Pricing is inline with other attractions like this weve experienced around the United States. The animal handler was knowledgeable and personable, you could tell they really loved their job. Spirit and Sitka, the bald eagles, were great ambassadors for their species. The development staff that has been working there for 11+ years was more robotic which was our least favorite part of the tour. We felt like it was an audio-tour rather than a tour with a live-person. Overall, a great hour in the Tongass.
Love their efforts to rehabilitate injured birds of prey
Quick and educational tour. The facility is comfortable and well set up. The owls and eagles up close are a must see.
This center is world class! You get to view birds of prey from an indoor flight/viewing area the size of a football field - Ive never seen anything this impressive before! Outdoors you also can see the eagles in a forest enclosure from above. There is a really interesting great grey owl - such a beautiful creature. Tito is inside a the guest services desk - a tiny owl that is just adorable! The center provides care for injured birds and those that cant be released reside there. Such an amazing place!!! I see why National Geographic Live did a show on them!!!
Incredible to see these amazing birds so close up, and interacting with humans; others protected from us to be released.
Great place to stop by cool animals super close up
What an experience!! This center was an amazing, must see stop! The people are so knowledgeable and the birds there, whether destine to fly free or stay protected on site, are breathtaking, awe inspiring, and a must-see!! We meet a show stopping Snow owl, watched 27 bald eagles in a flight tunnel and many more birds safely healing, and living it up!
Excellent! Staff was so organized, knowledgeable and friendly.
Fun place for family great walks, animals up close all types of raptor. recovery and display center. worth it.
Very informativeDoing great work!
Where else can u see Eagles, Hawks, and Owls so close and talk to pros doing inspiring work. Excellent tour
Nice facility to see eagles up close.
Loved it! Beautiful owls, the eagles where great also, but owls are my favorite
The Raptor Center provides rehabilitative and on-going care for injured and imprinted raptors, which includes eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls. They work with the birds to help restore their strength and hunting skills for release back into the wild, and for those unable to survive the wild, they are re-homed to zoos around the country. This as a great educational center for children and adults alike.
So so great to see all the raptors
Beautiful amazing facility they are taking care of injured bald eagles and other birds nursing them back to health we will be adding their nonprofit to my donations list this year going forward.
Loved it. Closest I can imagine being to an eagle!
Amazing opportunity to see birds of prey up close
Definite must go! Best of Sitka!
Amazing! Quality location.
What an amazing experience. We went for the 1:30pm tour. The space was clean, the staff was very friendly and educational with all of their explanations. Our educational bird was Spirit; watching her eat salmon eggs out of her handlers hand while making her little squaks was so cool! Highly recommend
If youre planning an Alaskan cruise, look for an itinerary that stops in Sitka and make it your priority to visit the Alaska Raptor Center. You will get an education and the birds are both amazing and beautiful.
Only place to get that close to owls and eagles!
Very enjoyable trip, great staff and it was great to see the eagles up close and personal...
We stopped by here as part of a multi-stop cruise excursion and after the guided tours, we only got to spend about 5 minutes walking around the place. That said, what we did see was awesome and I am very sad we didnt get to spend more time there. The first thing we did was walk into an area with double-sided mirrors that had bald eagles on the other side. They told us these eagles were being rehabilitated and were in varying stages of being able to fly again. Then we went into a big room and were told a little about the place and a woman brought in a juvenile bald eagle. Outside, they had other bald eagles and hawks and owls.Highly recommended if you are into birds, but if you are coming through a cruise, Id skip some of the guided tours and just explore outside
We loved visiting the Raptor Center. We learned so much about Eagles and rehabilitation. We were super lucky to be there at the exact right time to see them release 2 eagles back into the wild. We also lucked out and finished up tight before two giant tour buses arrived. The place filled up pretty quickly after that.We walked through the Sitka National Historical Park and then walked to the Raptor Center. After that it was an easy walk back into town and back to our cruise ship.
We enjoyed the tour to see how they are helping the eagles.
Beautiful birds. Theyre doing an amazing job.
Great place to visit loved what they are doing to protect the birds
This was an amazing display of what people can do to help animals.
I have not been there but have watched shows on Discovery with Disney+ and am SO impressed with what they do. Some of the shows have brought me to tears like the one with Fuzz Lightyear, a baby eagle who had to be euthanized. The work they do is AMAZING!!!
Great place but sadly only had 30 minutes on my guided tour so we didnt get to see much I would suggest at least hour minimum. Staff was eager to share their knowledge. Spirit the Bald Eagle was very impressive .
