Wanted to get certified in Seattle and ended up choosing NAUI at Lighthouse over PADI at Seattle Scuba because I liked that NAUI was a non-profit and that they apparently included more first aid training. Unfortunately this spot just didnt match my learning style. Classes involve 2 - 6 hour lectures where they describe what to do, then you drive to a pool and students are asked to do what was described. I can totally appreciate that when youve been diving for your whole career, it can get frustrating when newbies dont pick up everything immediately and need more repetition than a onetime classroom description, but there are far more constructive ways to coach your students in those situations. For example, at one point I must have been clearing my mask incorrectly as the instructor repeatedly asking me to flood and then clear it. Eventually they just pushed their hand against my face, rolled their eyes, and then moved on. Still no clue what I was doing incorrectly. Later that same lesson we were doing a weight belt recovery exercise. The instructor repeatedly pulled me out of my turn as my form must have been off. Eventually they got frustrated, shook me by my BC, and pulled their reg out of their mouth to scream Turn! Clearly there was something I wasnt doing correctly in both of those situations, but it would have been far more helpful to explain what I was doing wrong rather than getting angry about it. Not a great learning environment, my advice is to go to Seattle Scuba instead.
My wife and I had a very positive experience with the lighthouse diving center for our open water dive certs. Their prices were really fair, both for instruction and the equipment purchases we made(I compared them with online options and their prices were as good or better than what I could find online). The class included rental items and there was never a time where we incurred an unexpected cost once we signed up for the class. The instruction was great. Our instructor was professional, knowledgeable, experienced and very patient. We would definitely recommend using them. We will continue to provide them with our business. Also, we would highly recommend doing the open water dives in the puget sound, it exceeded our expectations. Cheers!
Great dive shop with wide selection of gear. Owner is super knowledgeable!
Just finished the intro to free diving course. Learned a ton and had a blast!
I had a great experience getting my open water SCUBA certification here. Jackie was an excellent instructor and took every precaution to make her students feel safe and confident diving!
My kids, 13 and 15, just completed their open water dive certification. The instructors were great and the kids had a blast!
Great staff, service and equipment for your diving needs
Love this local place! They know all there is about NW diving and had a snorkel that fits my 7 year old
Lighthouse Diving is a great dive shop that always has its best interest for the customer. I took the basic basic open water scuba certification with Jim and Tim and they provided outstanding service, very well knowledgeable, never rush into things and take each chapter one step at a time. Prices are reasonable, able to work deals with possible packages. Can provide adequate info on dive sites. Definitely one of the higher recommended dive shops to go to if you need something dive related.
Great people an DC cety competent help. Filling. Instruction ...gottaclivd friendly competence
Love this place. My 13 year old got certified yesterday. Her instructor Andrew showed incredible patience as she struggled through to read the Naui Dive Table for her check out dive. Andrew showed persistence very few people have, circling back numerous times in a calm gentle way as she (characteristically tearfully) struggled and struggled (hoping someone would give her the answer)-nope-not Andrew--moments later (while I wanted to scream)...like a ray of sunshine through storm clouds, a smile spread across her face as she got it!--it was amazing to watch. I LOVE witnessing people in their element like this. Andrew is a gifted instructor without a doubt.
Manager is super friendly and helpful! This guy needs a promotion or something!!!
Never taken a dive course there, so I cant comment on that, but all of the store staff is knowledgeable and nice. They are really supportive of local dive clubs (particularly student groups at the UW) with discounts and expertise. Brought my gear in for annual servicing, and the work is done at about the going rate for that sort of thing. All work is done offsite, which makes the lead time about 2 weeks, but thats about as good as most other places.Only complaint is that they generally seem pretty short-staffed: pretty sure just one guy is in the shop at a time. Their process for servicing and renting could be expedited, otherwise there is a pretty long wait if someone else is in the shop.
Went diving at magnuson park when my dive buddys high pressure hose blew while doing our surface prep.. Googled dive shops and they were the top of the list. A+ service
Theyve always been extremely helpful in their sponsorship of the University of Washingtons Human Powered Submarine Team. Their staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable about the gear they are selling.I have not taken any classes with them.
